Chapter 4
Craig was sitting against a rock while the merman sat on his lap, comfortably asleep with his head on his shoulder and his arms wrapped around his back. What the fuck is he doing? Shouldn’t he be finding a way to send a signal to the ship or something like to make sure they know he’s there? Instead, he’s cuddling with a merman he didn’t even meet a couple days ago. God, he doesn’t even remember how he got here nor does he know the creature’s name. He’s too lost in a fantasy to care though. He mentally noted that the merman had super soft skin as he moves his hands along the merman’s back, not to mention his soft almost silky hair. Whatever type of dream he was in, he hoped it lasted forever. Craig sighs with a smile, leaning his head against the rock that sat behind him. A loud horn noise broke him out of that small fantasy, hitting his head against the rock when he heard it.
“Ow, fuck!” He yelled, rubbing the back of his head as he looked out into the ocean to see what made the obnoxious noise. Oh. It was.. the ship? But, it’s too early. He can’t leave the merman who’s name he didn’t know alone on this island.. No, he just met the thing. What is he thinking? Craig carefully moved the merman off of him, resting him comfortably against the rock, looking down ay him with a small frown. He’s a merman, he won’t have to suffer on this island like he did, he can easily swim off somewhere into the ocean. But what if he gets caught in a fishing net or something. No-
“CRAIG!” Craig’s head shot around, noticing Kyle who was standing on top of the ship, waving at him.
“HURRY YOUR ASS UP!” Another voice arose, it was the fatass, Cartman. Craig looked back at the merman, sighing as he walked away. He can’t be sad about leaving the damn thing, he just met him for christ sake. Either way he can’t fall in love with an inhumane creature, that’s just stupid. But the merman was the only one who remotely gave him the affection he most desperately needed. Enough. Anyone else can give him that.. he can’t fall in love with a creature that isn’t even the same species as him.. It’s pathetic, truly.
Once Craig made it onto the ship, a loud roar of cheering picked up. He was granted with a couple hugs and a couple punches to the arm as his crew mates welcomed him back. It felt great to be back. But he couldn’t stop his mind from wandering to thoughts about the merman.. who had beautiful eyes and soft hair and- Craig shakes his head. Enough about the damn thing. Snap out of it. He’s never going to see him again anyways.
“I need a drink..” Craig murmurs as he watched all of his crew mates leave besides Kyle.
Kyle looks at him questionably, raising an eyebrow with a smirk on his face. “Never thought i’d ever hear you say that.” Craig flips him off as Kyle chuckled. “Drink ya heart out, you need it.”
…
He and Kyle were sitting across a table in Kyle’s room which was separate from everyone else’s. Probably the only benefit you get as co-captain. There was a box of beers sitting on the middle of the table, which was half empty as Craig chugged it like it was water, drowning out Kyle who was talking to him.
He slammed the empty bottle down onto the table with the rest of them, breathing heavily as he wiped the drop of beer off of the side of his mouth.
“Never knew knew could drink like that, Tucker. Now talk to me.” Craig looked up at Kyle, who had his hands folded neatly on the table. “Tell me what happened.”
Craig looked at Kyle with an uncertain face, but he found the words slipping out of his mouth like it wasn’t a secret he was trying to hide.
“I met a mermaid.. merman.” He says bluntly with a crack in his voice as he watches Kyle looking back at Craig with wide eyes.
“The fuck you mean, you met a mermaid? Those shits aren’t real and you’re one to know that Tucker.” He looked away, crossing his arms with a tsk. “Get a hold of yourself dude, probably went insane on that damn island.”
Craig shakes his head, sitting up straight with clear anger on his face. “I swear he was real, we were-“ He stops, slumping down again as his eyes trailed off. “He was with me.. he helped me.”
“You need rest, Tucker. We’ll talk in the mornin’ when you snap out of your fantasies.” Kyle gestured to the door, “Get some good shut eye, don’t worry your ass off.” Craig stood up with a small nod, wobbling and almost falling as he did. Craig drunkly walked over to the door, giving Kyle a small wave before he exited.
“Fucking dumbass..” He murmured to himself as he walked across the ship deck, rubbing his temple with his thumbs. Once Craig made it to the door of his room, almost tripping on his way, he was greeted with another big hug from Clyde.
“Get off of me Clyde.” He groaned, pushing Clyde off him.
“It’s nice to see you back dude.” Tolkien exclaimed with his friendly and charming smile he always has on his face. Craig nods in response, falling flat on the hard mattress, and immediately falling asleep once his head hit the feathered pillow.
