Age 17, The Party

Leah POV

Fatin thrived on the atmosphere of parties. The steady thrum of bass that pounded against her skin and the smell of weed lacing the air. The sheer bliss of alcohol coursed through her system, blurring the world around her into a muted stream of happenings.

But most of all she loved to dance, grinding jokingly against friends of hers as they sang at the top of their lungs.

Leah didn’t care of course; when she did attend, she would normally be propped by a wall smiling and rolling her eyes at her mate’s display of confidence because secretly Leah craved it. Seeing Fatin like this: relaxed, free, and so damn attractive. It was only her own lack of self-confidence that kept her from dancing alongside her, preferring to watch and soak the moment in without worrying about if she looked cute dancing awkwardly beside her.

No, Leah didn’t mind at all.

However, what Leah didn’t realise was that should the roles ever be reversed, they both would.

“Hey, I’m Ryan.”

Leah jumped slightly; caught off guard by the voice beside her and the arm that was propped above her head as he leaned against the wall, towering over her.

An alpha, Leah noted. He was attractive, but Leah had never seen him before. He had warm brown eyes and chestnut hair that sat perfectly quaffed with just the right amount of product.

“Hi?”

Though, Leah had no idea why he was here.

Perhaps he didn’t know Colby’s house and just seriously needed to relieve his bladder or something.

“Hey, figured I’d say hi. Someone like you shouldn’t be stood alone at a party. Everyone should be smiling- party after all.”

“Someone like me?”

His eyes trailed along Leah’s body, taking in the excess of her chest that was on display with the plunging crop she’d gone with. It was not her usual attire; but she had recently been trying to rile Fatin up as when she succeeded, they would have the most intense make-out sessions that left her breathless for hours after.

“What’s your name?” He asked, avoiding her question.

“Leah... Rilke.”

“Well Leah comma Rilke, would you like to dance?”

“No, I don’t…”

“I’m new here and figured it would be nice to attend this thing and meet some people that weren’t the lacrosse team. Gets kind of weird being the odd one out at a school.”

“Oh.” Leah felt bad for him with that information. She always tended to be on the outside looking in, viewing others like some form of entertainment network. Leah knew well enough what knowing few people felt like, even here among so many bodies of peers she knew little of many.

“One dance,” she relented.

The issue was that because Leah was Fatin’s mate no one had ever dared to flirt with her, the only times it had occurred was when she was towns over with people who didn’t know of her mate. And even then, Leah was so unequipped at dealing with it that she missed the advances entirely.

So, as he stood in front of her, and a hand landed on her waist she swallowed.

It was fine, this was how Fatin danced so surely it was just the norm? Yet the touch made her skin crawl.

“When did you move here?” Leah asked as he danced close to her, smiling.

“Last week. Kind of a mad town this, everyone seems to know everyone and I’m playing catch up.”

“Oh, yeah it can definitely feel like that.”

“Tell me about yourself Leah comma Rilke.”

“Um, I’m not really interesting.” She laughed awkwardly as his other hand found her hip and he rolled against her.

It was the grinding that had her brain firing a signal that this was wrong. This wasn’t just someone looking for a friend.

“I have a mate,” Leah stated, freezing as she tried to create some distance, though his hands remained on her hips.

“I’m sure he won’t miss you for five minutes.” He laughed, hands tightening to hold her in place.

Leah felt a swirl of panic mixed with discomfort as a hand dropped to her ass.

“Hey, dickwad.”

Fatin.

“Back the fuck up.”

“Oh, shit you’re friends with Fatin?” He asked. “We were just having a bit of fun. No need to worry, right?”

“You were grinding against my mate asshole, I think it’s very much my problem. Not only that but when someone asks you to back off you back the fuck off,” Fatin grit out, hand tightening around his wrist until he dropped it from Leah’s waist and stepped back with a hiss of pain.

“Shit, didn’t mean to piss on your turf you know?”

“My turf?” Fatin pulled Leah behind her. “I get you’re not from here, but here we don’t treat omegas like dirt.”

“It was just a dance.”

“Your hand grabbed her ass after she told you no.”

“An accident.” He stated jaw tightening.

“Yeah, well if my knee happens to meet your balls that would be an accident too.” Fatin breathed heavily; attempting to still her rage as her eyes glowed gold, most of the party now watching on as the scene unfolded.

“Come on, it was a stupid dance.”

“If you touch her again… I will break those fingers and you’ll be playing lacrosse with your fucking feet. Or worse. I can have you off that team with a few words, perks of having parents that pay for half of your shit.”

Ryan huffed, rage pulsing through him as he laughed bitterly, walking off.

“Nothing to see,” Fatin announced. “Enjoy the party bitches!”

The issue was quickly forgotten by the drunk masses as Fatin pulled Leah up the stairs into Colby’s room.

“Are you okay?” Fatin asked, breathing heavily as she pushed a strand of hair behind Leah’s ear. “He’ll be off the team by the end of the week and will have no choice but to transfer. He’s on a sports scholarship.”

Leah was something alright, but okay wasn't it. It wasn't so much the discomfort of what he had done -though she hated it- but the unsettling tilt to their bond. When Leah stared up at Fatin she felt hollow and distanced, as if parted from her mate.

It was the need to get Ryan’s hand on her ass out of her head; paired with the way she went utterly carnal as Fatin defended her, heat pooling in her stomach at the memory. Livid Fatin had always done something for Leah, there was passion in her eyes and the way her jaw worked. Fatin was someone who was great at constantly schooling and guarding her emotions, so when she let go it always had an impact on her.

Huffing as the emotions left her agitated; she pulled Fatin against her, her own back pressed to the wall as she tugged her mouth towards her own.

Fatin was always dominant in a way, had to take charge and Leah craved it. So as Fatin bit her lip she groaned and slumped against her. Her tongue pushed into Leah’s mouth and the hand that she wanted on her found her hip, holding her in place against the wall.

“I was so ready to rip his stupid throat out,” Fatin grumbled as she gently kissed Leah’s neck.

But Leah still felt uncomfortable, still felt his scent on her as she whined uncomfortably. “I need you. More, please.”

“What?” Fatin asked.

Leah parted her legs slightly, tugging her mate closer. Fatin quickly realised her need and offered her a thigh.

“Are you sure?”

“I just need you. A little… closer. Please,” Leah admitted, chewing her lip to prevent the tears from spilling out. She just needed Fatin and felt like her mate had been parted from her. Leah hated it. It was like sinking into an abyss and she needed something to let her surface. Bonds were not something people messed with for a reason; right now, Leah needed the confirmation that Fatin was hers, she would protect her and love her.

“I’ve got you.” Fatin offered her bare thigh with her dress bunching slightly as she pressed it between Leah’s legs, closing her eyes when she moved against it.

It was new; they may be seventeen but Leah had taken things relatively slow, too shy to do much but make out heavily with some slight chest touching every now and then. She loved Fatin, and Fatin was more than happy to wait, knowing that there was no reason to rush a lifetime.

Yet at that point, she wanted more in the realm of safety and need but not too much. Something small that would pull her mate closer to her, that would soothe her wolf’s unsettled state.

Leah rolled her hips, head lolling against Fatin’s shoulder as she sighed at the feeling.

“Holy shit,” Fatin whispered, hands holding Leah’s hips tightly in a way she loved. “Leah-”

It wasn’t suffocating like Ryan, it was comfort. Her wolf already began to soothe at the contact.

“I don’t want to like…” Get off remained unsaid. “I just need you.”

“That’s fine. You’re okay. You’re safe. We can leave if you need to?”

“No, I'm okay. You’re so hot angry,” Leah mumbled against her neck, rolling her hips again as she let the new sensation grip her.

“Are you sure you're okay?”

“Yeah, I'm feeling calmer now.”

Leah continued like that; grinding lightly against Fatin’s thigh as they made out intensely, Fatin comforting with how she pushed her against the wall every now and again or mouthed and marked her neck with canines sharper than usual.

It wasn’t hot and heavy so much as need and comfort. It was soft lips pliant against her own, it was Leah mouthing Fatin’s shoulder because she wanted to mark her back and claim what was already hers. It was Fatin’s heavy breath as Leah moved against her, whispers of calming statements to bring her back from her angst of feeling their bond threatened.

“How are you doing?” Fatin pulled her thigh away as soon as she felt Leah calm, their bond settling.

“I’m okay.”

“Let’s go back to mine, put on a film and have hot chocolates, okay?”

Leah nodded, a tear dripping from her eye. “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?”

“Because I-”

“Because he, Leah. I saw the whole thing and you're mated so you wouldn't cheat regardless. It’s not your fault you couldn’t read his intentions, and he should have smelt a mate or partner on you anyway. Plus, anyone could see you didn’t want him touching you, and then you clearly stated such. Ryan is a prick, and he had no right to fucking touch you like that. It’s not your fault.”

“Can you put whipped cream on my hot chocolate?” Leah asked, sighing against Fatin's shoulder.

“Don’t I always?”

Fatin POV

They ended up beneath a heap of covers in the cinema room at one a.m. with Leah curled up against Fatin as she nuzzled her neck.

Fatin hummed, content to let Leah stay there for a lifetime.

“I’ll stay closer to you during parties.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I want to. I didn’t think…” Fatin swallowed. “I forgot guys could be such douches.”

“It’s fine. I didn’t realise that he was...” Leah swallowed. “People don’t normally find me attractive, so I didn’t think that he had more interest.”

“Leah.” Fatin laughed, turning her head to look into her eyes as a hand caressed her neck. “What do you mean you’re not attractive?”

“I mean, no one ever… no one ever hits on me. You get hit on all the time, literally every day. You’re beautiful.”

“Baby,” Fatin said, shaking her head in pain that she hadn’t realised Leah felt like that. “You are beautiful, so immensely beautiful. The reason people don’t hit on you to your face at school is because those that did talk about how hot you were in impolite ways, I lost it at them. People don’t hit on you because you’re I’m yours, and they don’t want me biting their ass. You are so beautiful. For what it’s worth you do get hit on, you’re just normally oblivious to it which I kind of love.”

Fatin paused, laughing briefly at a memory. “The waiter when we had a meal last month a few towns over, he was hitting on you the whole night and it made me so happy to watch him fail to get any attention from you at all. I mean he gave you his number and you passed it to me and stated it must have been a line to call to review the place.”

“Wait that was his number?” Leah’s mind was reeling.

“Obvi. It was seriously so funny to watch his face fall when you passed it to me though.” Fatin grinned. “You are an enigma, Leah. And I’m incredibly lucky to call you mine.”

“Yours.” Leah smiled, chewing her lip as she curled in tight with a leg wrapped around her mate like a koala. “Can we sleep here? I’m comfy and can’t be bothered to move.”

“Sure. Are you okay though? I know I keep asking but I could just smell how uncomfortable you were.”

“I’m okay now and you’ve faced worse from assholes,” Leah said. “Being close to you helps. Your warmth and scent put me at ease.” She nuzzled into her mate’s neck again, sighing at the smell of Chanel.

Tears filled Fatin’s eyes as she worked her jaw, pulling her ever closer. Though the alpha would never admit it she wasn’t sure what she would do without Leah and seeing Ryan invade her space, seeing Leah so on edge made pain course through her. Like she had failed at protecting her from this shit. Whenever people tried things with Fatin, Leah was always right there ready to give them a mouthful with stormy blue eyes and a slightly crazed look that said she would find a way to fuck them up.

People had a way of walking over omegas at times and Fatin had gotten too comfortable in thinking that would never be Leah. Clearly, her scent on Leah did little to deter the assholes of the world. So now she held her tight; a single tear melded in Leah’s hair as she breathed her scent in, thankful that the world had given them each other.

“I love you,” Fatin said, kissing her mate’s head and letting her nose brush against Leah’s hair and the scent of her shampoo. Leah still used the same cheap shampoo she had used since they started high school and part of Fatin hoped she’d never stop.

“Mm, you too,” Leah mumbled groggily, already half asleep as she curled deeper into her side.

She talked to her mother in the morning. Rana was furious as she drove to the school, threatening to remove their funding unless his scholarship was revoked.

Even after Ryan left their school, Fatin made sure to stay by her mate's side as often as possible.
