My Vampire

Chapter 1

"This place is rubbish," I complained as I sat down in the living room after unpacking my stuff.

"Oh, Katarina, do stop complaining. We had to move," mom said.

"Or do you not remember us having to leave Transylvania because of the attempt on your life?" Dad asked.

"Then, we moved to Kent where we had to leave six months later because of those Slayers finding out about what we are and we had to kill them?" Mom asked.

"We weren't careful enough with our feeding habits and the Slayers got wind of us. So, we need to be--" Dad said but I cut him off.

"More careful. Yeah. I know but I don't want to go to school. School's horrible, boring, pointless and easy." Dad sighed at my words.

"We made you go to school for the last six months and you hated it but this is a new school," mom tried to reason but she's not getting it.

"Why should I go to school now when there'll be more stuff to learn in 200 years and I'll look the same? School is pointless for me. Besides, I'm the Vampire Princess and Princesses shouldn't have to do things they don't want to do." Dad sighed again.

"Fine. If you still hate it at the end of the week, we'll say you're being homeschooled and pull you out."

"Devon! No. She needs to get a decent education. I will not have my daughter not know basic skills like grammar and maths!" Ugh. I hate how young my mother is. It makes her act like this. See, mom is only 86. She only looks about twenty-four maybe twenty-five. Dad's 603. He looks roughly thirty years old. Because mom was born in the last hundred years, she doesn't feel the whole 'I'm immortal and can live forever' the way dad does. She's lived just far back enough to see what a big deal all children getting an education is to the Breathers and feels the same way about it that they do. She doesn't see how pointless it is like dad and I do.

"Then, we'll have her homeschooled by tutors or something but she won't have to go to the school, Edith. Besides, she'll soon be old enough to take over the throne. We can't bring suspicion on us. We have to keep a low profile. We can't risk anyone finding out who we are are trying to kill us again. The Dragomir Bloodline has had the throne since the first Vampires. Our ancestor was the first ever Vampire. We have to protect ourselves..." Dad sighed. "Let's just... See how this week goes first, huh, Katarina?"

"Sure, dad." My mind's not gonna change.

...

"Late again, Ingrid?" The maths teacher asked as someone walked in late. I don't know what the teacher's name is. Don't care.

"You should be glad I showed up at all." Damn, that voice is... Really sexy. Who's Ingrid, then? I turn to look at the girl who's talking to the teacher and this Ingrid chick is so hot. And, if her attitude and how she dresses are any indication, she's just my type. Even if she's a Breather, that doesn't mean I can't have fun with her.

"Drop that attitude, missy."

"Or what?" Ingrid smirked and I giggle a little the teacher shot a disapproving look at me.

"Something to share with the class, Miss Crimson?" He asked. Ingrid looked at me and looked surprised.

"Yeah. For once in your life, shut your mouth." Everyone laughed or gasped apart from Ingrid (who smirked) and the teacher (who looked pissed).

"I understand that this is your first day here, Miss Crimson, and I don't know how behaviour was at your last school, but that language and level of disrespect is not tolerated in this school."

"I'd say bite me but that's more my thing." I winked at Ingrid before smirking at the teacher.

"That's it, go to the headmistress." I kept smirking.

"Sure. I'd love to if it gets me away from your pathetic, whining voice." After winking at Ingrid one more time, I picked up my stuff and left the classroom. She was definitely blushing a little.

...

"Ok, maybe I'll stay in school a little longer," I told my parents when I got home. They were both shocked into silence. I walked past them and into my room. Maybe school won't be as bad as I thought with that hot Breather there.

...

I walked up to Ingrid. "So, gorgeous, have you got a date to the school disco next week, yet?" She turned around and was clearly annoyed until she saw who was talking to her and blushed slightly. Typically, I don't take an interest in Breathers but this one's really attractive. The only attractive Breather I've ever come across.

"Not yet. However, a lot of people have asked me. Why?" I smirked at her.

"Well, if you still don't have a date when it comes around, tell me. I'd love to take a gorgeous girl like you." I winked at her and she blushed again. I chuckled a little. "The name's Kat, by the way. See you 'round, gorgeous," I said. I winked at her one more time before walking off.

...

"What was I thinking?" I heard Ingrid ask after those disgusting Breathers left. I don't get what she was thinking either. She can do so much better than them... Like me. "Married to a Breather." Wait, what? Married? BREATHER!? Is she... A Vampire? "Why would I lower myself?" She stood up and went to leave but I grabbed her by the arm and quickly pulled her into the school and the first empty classroom I could find. "What do you think you're--" she cut herself off and started blushing when she noticed it was me who had pulled her into the classroom.

"Hi, gorgeous."

"Hi."

"What's this talk of marrying a Breather, hm?" She looked a little worried, shocked, angry and concerned. She tried to look confused.

"Don't know what you're talking about."

"Yes, you do. Only Vampires refer to them as Breathers." She looked a little shocked but tried to hide it.

"Vampires aren't real."

"Yes, they are. I know this because I am one. You know it because you're one, too." She looked surprised again.

"You're a Vampire?" Her voice was full of shock and disbelief.

"Me and my parents, yeah."

"Me too." I chuckled a little.

"Yeah. I know. I just said that." Ingrid blushed at my words. The two of us talked for an hour before we left. Ingrid told me as much about her as she could in that time and I told her a little about me too. She's amazing.

...

"I can't believe this! It's ridiculous!" Ingrid yelled. I can't believe she knows where I live. I never told her and yet she showed up at my house.

"What's ridiculous?" I asked as I pulled her into my arms on my bed. Ingrid blushed as she lay down with her head against my chest.

"Vlad... And dad. He... Dad told me if Vlad doesn't pass his Blood Test, then I won't get my full powers as well as Vlad. I do my Blood Tests when I'm supposed to and always get Top Marks and the top of my year. Vlad's definitely going to fail and it's not fair to punish me for his incompetence."

"He'll be fine. I'm sure your dad will give him some kind of incentive to pass the Blood Test... If not... Find a way to cheat it." Ingrid grinned at my words.

"Thanks."

"Anything for you, gorgeous." Ingrid started blushing again at my compliments. She's amazing.

...

"My dad's throwing a Hunt Ball," Ingrid said as she came into my room. "You're invited."

"Can't."

"I... I was hoping you'd go as my date." I winced at that. I'd love nothing more than to go as her date but my parents and I are supposed to be keeping a low profile until I come into my full powers... Attending a Hunt Ball would be the opposite of that. Ingrid's face fell.

"Ingrid--"

"Forget it." She went to storm out but I grabbed her arm.

"I'd love to go as your date but I can't go... But... If you want, we could go on our own little date?"

"I... Fine. You're planning it, though." I smiled at her as she left the room. I just got a date with the most gorgeous girl I've ever met... I'm so lucky.

...

"I can't believe him!" Ingrid growled as she stormed into my room.

"Hunt Ball didn't go well, huh?"

"No. The Breathers got away and the place was attacked by Van Helsing and his kid. He almost killed my dad but dad just let them leave! A Slayer and he let him leave!"

"Wait... Van Helsing, our woodwork teacher, is a Slayer?"

"Yeah. Dad's all going on about how he's gonna attack Van Helsing but he let him get away. I never would've done that. This is why women should be in charge and not men. We don't make stupid decisions."

"Well, there will be a woman in charge soon." Ingrid looked at me, confused.

"What?"

"Currently, there's a Vampire King, Devon Dragomir, and a Vampire Queen, Edith Dragomir, that rules the world's Vampire population. Their only child is the Vampire Princess, Katarina Dragomir. In a few years, she'll inherit the throne and become the Vampire Queen. King Devon wrote a law a few centuries ago making females and males equal in the Vampire World. Some Vampires, like your father, are still stuck in tradition and sexism but with a Vampire Queen in charge, that won't really be an option and anyone found to be acting like your father will be put on trial for Katarina to decide if they're guilty or not. As the eldest, you are your father's heir under King Devon's laws. Your father is in violation of that law by naming Vlad as his heir. Unfortunately, a lot of the older Vampires still stick to the sexist traditions that existed before King Devon's law."

"How do you know this?"

"... I can't tell you. It's not my place to say. However, I'm of the firm belief any and all Vampires should be aware of Vampire Law and most Vampires, at least since King Devon came into power, don't teach them to their children."

...

"My cousin, Olga, has been o annoying. I can't wait until they all leave. She seems to think she's better than me. She even kicked me out of my bed!"

"You're always welcome in MY bed, Ingrid." Ingrid blushed at my words and I chuckled.

"So, about our date..."

"Did you enjoy it? I wasn't sure what to do as I'd never been on a date before but--"

"I loved it. You know I love terrorising peasants. Hiring people to do whatever I wanted for a few hours and then us making them do horrible things for the fun of it? It was great, babe."

"Babe?"  Ingrid blushed again.

"Erh, well, I..."

"I like it, baby." Ingrid blushed more.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." I pulled her closer and noticed her eyes drop to my lips. "Do you want me to kiss you, Ingrid?"

"Please," she quietly whimpered. I love how fierce and confident she is around others, but I love how completely her she is with me. I love that she feels safe enough to be vulnerable with me. I pulled her closer and kissed her. My first kiss. It's... Perfect... And Ingrid's a great kisser.

...

I could not stop laughing. "They actually believed you'd- You'd smash the- The Blood Mirror!" I laughed as Ingrid smirked. "And the- The pink, flower dress and- Singing and dancing with- With Reinfield about- About friendship... Oh, I- I can't- I- I just-"

"It's not that funny."

"It's ingenious, my Princess of Darkness," I said as I finally stopped laughing and pulled Ingrid in for a kiss. "You're amazing, Ingrid."
