Chapter 28

Tony had spent the last two days dealing with an enemy targeting his family.
He wasn't going to have another one in his own home.
So when Rogers went flying head-over-heels after being blasted, he didn't wait around for the super-serumed idiot to recover. He stalked forward, hands up to take another shot. Oh, he wasn't aiming to kill, but he also had observed Captain Oblivious long enough to know that a single blow wouldn't keep Rogers down for long.
A flash of golden light from off to one side startled him, before Diana's lariat coiled around Rogers' body. The similarity to a boa constrictor was a little unnerving as it wrapped the man's arms and legs tightly.

He had to bite back laughter when the super-soldier was hauled up and secured to a nearby column, dangling in midair. Upside down.

Diana and Thor were both glaring daggers at the man. She turned to Tony, raising an eyebrow in question.

"He's trespassing. Call it in to NYPD, Amelia, please," he said to the receptionist.

Rogers was thrashing like a fish on a hook, yelling at them incoherently. Tony found himself wishing fervently for a camera. Oh well, there were the security cameras in the lobby at least.

"You sure that's a good idea?" Pepper asked, her voice low. "What if the cops are Cap's fans too, like Fury? Or worse, Hydra. "

"I think we've got to work with the legitimate authorities, Pep. " Tony understood her point, but --" The Avengers aren' t above the law. "

She nodded.

Diana was looking at her lasso with a strange expression.

"Is something wrong?"

"No. Just...unexpected. It likes you. I think."

Pepper looked baffled. Tony expected he did, too. "The rope. Likes me? Well, okay. Thanks for helping, "he called over.

If a hammer could 'judge someone's worthiness', he supposed another enchanted item could pass some sort of judgment on people too, though--
No. He didn't want to ask. Magic was just weird. He'd work with it, but he wasn't asking.
No, the Lasso wasn't shining any brighter when he thanked it. Trick of the light. That's all.

NYPD officers arrived fairly quickly. They secured Rogers with some heavy cuffs, and read him his rights, with him arguing the whole time. One of the cops was visibly rolling his eyes after about five minutes, and muttered 'you've got the right to remain silent, exercise it already' under his breath.
Tony left him with the cops, with Thor standing silent guard nearby, and headed back upstairs to check on Bruce and Catrin. He invited Diana and Clark to come with them. Pepper followed as well.

Bruce hugged him tightly. So did their daughter, and for a moment, nothing mattered but the three of them.

No, not three--Bruce's scent had changed again. It was slight, but noticeable between mates.

Bruce's happy, shy smile and Catrin's grin were all the confirmation he needed.

Four. Soon.

"I love you," he whispered, touching his partner's stomach gently.
