Chapter 16
1 month later and everything was going well with Serena and Bernie. They were both busy at work but they still found time to see each other.
"Ah Dr Wolf, just the woman I was looking for."
"What can I do for you Mr Hansson?" Bernie said as she sat down at the nurses station.
"Your invitation to the hospital ball."
"Is it that time of year again already?"
"It sure is. I take it, I can count on you to be there?"
"Absolutely."
"Good,good."Henrick said as he walked away.
"So erm are we all finally gonna get to meet Serena at the ball?" Dominic said as he sat down beside Bernie.
"I hope she will come with me. But she might not want to. I mean I will have to leave her some of the evening to drum up money for the hospital. I don't want her to feel like I'm leaving her alone too much."
"You won't know unless you ask her. Lofty and I will look after her."
"You haven't told Lofty what I told you about Serena have you?"
"Of course I haven't. Hey, you're my best friend. I would never betray your trust not ever."
"Thank you." Bernie pulled her phone from her pocket and passed it over to Dom.
"Is this Serena?" Bernie nodded and couldn't help but smile.
"She let me take a picture of us both the other night when we went to the cinema."
"It's a gorgeous picture. Serena is absolutely beautiful."
"She is, isn't she."
"How can anyone say that she isn't?"
"That bitch ex of hers."
"Her ex must have a screw loose."
"She's got a few loose believe me. I have never met anyone like Serena before. My family adores her and you should see Serena with Maise. They are so cute together. She will make a fantastic Mummy to someone one day. Serena's just perfect Dom."
"It sounds like Serena is the one."
"I think she's very much the one."
"Dr Wolfe, can I borrow you for a few minutes?" A nurse asked.
"Yes of course. See you in a bit."
"Yep.'
"Dr Copeland, this is Lucinda Graham fell down the stairs from top to bottom." The ambulance man said as they came onto the ward. "Suspected Open fracture to the ankle."
"Hello Lucinda. My name is Dom. I'll be looking after you."
"Thank you."
"Let's get her over to bay 5."
"How long is this going to take?" Asked the woman who was with her.
"And you are?"
"She's my girlfriend."
"I can talk for myself, Lucinda." She snapped as sat down on the chair and started to mess with her phone. Dom took a look at Lucinda's leg.
"That looks bad. How did you fall down the stairs?"
"She just fell. That's all you need to know."
"Did you bang your head at all?"
"It wouldn't matter if she did. There's nothing to damage in there, is there babe?" Lucinda shook her head and put her head down.
"I am.just going to get my colleague to take a look." Dom said as he walked over to Bernie."Bernie, can you come and have a look at this lady's leg. She has an open wound. She's definitely going to need surgery."
"You can do that."
"It's the woman's girlfriend, she seems a bit."
"A bit what?"
"Odd. Something doesn't seem right with her. Please come and look."
"Ok. What's her name?"
"Lucinda." Bernie followed Dom
"Hello Lucinda my name is Bernie. Is it ok to have a look at your leg please."
"Of course."
"How many more of you are going to look at her leg for god sake."
"We want to make sure we get the right diagnosis. Let's put it this way you won't be going home today Lucinda sorry."
“It’s ok.”
“No it’s not ok. I should be at work.”
“Lucinda is in good hands if you need to go.”
“I’m not leaving her on her own. She can't be trusted.”
"Excuse me." Bernie said angrily.
“It's ok Dr. If you need to go to work, it's fine. I’m not going to be going anywhere.”
"Fine." Lucinda's girlfriend put her phone in her pocket and went to kiss her on the cheek. "Keep your mouth shut." She whispered. "I'll be back after work."
"Bye." Lucinda breathed a sigh of relief as her girlfriend left.
"Is she always like that?" Bernie asked.
"She just has a few trust issues. Shannon's last girlfriend cheated on her. That's why she had issues."
"Shannon. Did you say your girlfriend's name is Shannon?"
"Yes, is that a problem?"
"I am going to get a nurse to prepare you for theatre."
"Ok."
"I told you that women were weird didn't I?" Dom said as they walked back to the nurses station.
"Don't say anything but I think that woman is Serena's ex."
"Are you sure?"
"It sure sounds like her."
"What are you going to do?"
"Keep her as far away from Serena as I can." Bernie said as she walked away.
