Chapter 11
"She's so cute." Serena said as she watched Bernie put Maise in the car seat.
"I think so. But then again I'm biassed. She's my niece." Bernie smiled as she kissed Maise on the cheek before shutting the car door. "My Lady" Bernie smiled as she opened the car door for Serena to get in.
"Thank you." Serena smiled as she got in the car and put on her seat belt.
"Right then are we ready to go?"
"Ready when you are."
"I just need to do something first before we go."
"What's that?"
"This." Bernie leaned over and kissed Serena. "You're so gorgeous."
"So are you." Serena said as she squeezed Bernie's hand.
"Let's go to the zoo." Bernie started the car and drove down the street. Serena looked out of the window in silence.
"Are you ok?" Bernie asked after 20 minutes of silence.
"Yes I'm fine. I'm just thinking about my Dad. "
"Why what's up with him?"
"Last night I asked him to tell me why Mum left. But he refused to talk about it, yet again."
"Maybe he's just not ready."
"He said he's not but he did say he will tell me eventually. I suppose I will just have to wait and see."
"You could alway look for her yourself. Get her to tell you why she left."
"I have thought about that, loads of time's. But I don't want to upset my Dad."
"If you change your mind I know someone who might be able to help you find your Mum."
"Thanks, but I better not." Serena said, as she smiled at Bernie before looking back out of the window.
When they got to the Zoo Serena took Maise out of her car seat. While Bernie got her buggy out of the boot.
"Do you want to push her? Bernie asked after Serena finished fastening Maise into her buggy.
"Yes please." Serena smiled as they started walking to the entrance of the zoo.
"Let me pay for this." Serena said as they got the entrance.
"No, this day out was my idea."
"Please Bernie. I want to pay."
"Ok, if you insist."
"I do." Serena smiled as she paid and they both went through the entrance.
"Maise, look what's there." Bernie said as the first enclosure was the Meerkat's. "They are Meerkat's." Bernie said as she kneeled down beside Maise.
"Up," Maise said as she lifted her arms to let Bernie know that she wanted out of the buggy. "Come here gorgeous."Bernie lifted Maise out and placed her on her hip. Maise started to squeal in excitement.
"Do you like those Meerkats, Maise?"
"Cats.Cats" Maise said as she put one arm around Serena. After walking a bit further round the Zoo. They stopped at the cafe for some lunch.
"She's enjoying that hotdog." Serena said as she took a bite of her sandwich.
"Maise loves her food. Are you having a nice time?" Bernie asked nervously.
"I'm having a lovely time,being here with you and little Maise."
"Am glad. I want you to always have a nice time with me. I won't ever hurt you Serena." Bernie held Serena's hand.
"Someone always ends up hurting me somehow. Shannon, my Mum."
"Look at me."Bernie gently held Serena's face to look at her. "I can promise you this beautiful that if you give me a chance to show you I will never ever hurt you. You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen. And I am going to tell you that everyday until you believe me." Serena had tears streaming down her face when she pulled Bernie to her and hugged her tightly as she sobbed. "Hey don't cry baby."
"I'm sorry, it's just I have never met anyone like you before." Serena let go of Bernie and gently stroked Bernie's face. "And I love spending time with you."
"And i love spending time with you. I am going to make you feel so loved. If you'll let me. Serena Wendy Campbell will em, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Yes please." Serena beamed as Bernie kissed her lovingly.
