Chapter 16
Nothing had prepared Dong for the one day in her life when everything had really changed. It wasn’t the day she took over for her father, it was the day she was supposed to be married. She met two people prior to this woman, and Dong finally said yes to her father mainly because Bora was pretty.
She didn’t expect anything to really happen fast, but it had and now she was sitting in a hotel room with her now wife, just staring at the floor.
“We don’t have to do anything…” Bora frowned.
“I don’t want to… I mean you’re attractive and all, I just don’t know you.” Dong turned to look at the older woman behind her. All she knew was her name, her age, and that Bora’s dad knew her dad. Hence the setup and now wife.
“Well… How about we get to know each other?” Bora suggested, sitting up more instead of lounging against the headboard of the bed. “I just graduated law school… I’m a junior associate at my dad’s firm… My favorite colors are red and purple… And I like hedgehogs and elephants,” Bora smiled.
“Um… I am in my last year of college… Studying business, and as you already know… I took over my dad’s… you know…” Dong trailed off. “My favorite colors? I mean… I like all colors… but I guess I tend to drift more toward black, white, and grey… So those colors? Oh and I like cats,” Dong explained, looking back at the woman behind her. “Oh, and I have a human pet…” She mumbled.
“A what?” Bora frowned.
Dong explained everything, how she failed her first solo mission. How she threatened to kill the one person that she ended up kidnapping because she panicked. She figured that she would be honest with Bora since they were now legally married and it felt wrong for her to just lie right off the bat and just continue that lie for the rest of their marriage.
“So… Siyeon is her name,” Dong whispered.
“That’s… A lot…” Bora frowned. “But I do understand… to a point… But is she at least nice?” She asked.
“Not really… She hates everything about me, but,” Dong shrugged. “What can you do?” She let out a sigh, not entirely sure what to say at that point. She had kidnapped someone and was holding her in her own room as ransom until the man paid his debts.
She learned slowly that Bora was very animate most days and liked to unwind. She listened to her vent about her days, listened to her talk about everything, and even learned that she loved dancing when she was younger.
“Did you stop because your dad asked you to?” Dong asked one night.
“No, I stopped on my own,” Bora shrugged. “I just… It wasn’t fun anymore,” She sighed. “I was working myself to the point of exhaustion just to get everything right… and one day it slapped me like a bag of bricks… I realized I wasn’t having fun and I was forcing it on myself.” She explained. “Maybe I’ll go back to it one day and see how fun it used to be,” She smiled.
“I think it would be a good idea to keep your mind open about said fun things,” Dong chuckled. “But I’m glad you weren’t forced to give it up,” She sighed.
“What about you? What did you like to do growing up that you don’t do anymore?” Bora smiled.
She loved talking. Loved talking about their childhoods and how vastly different it was despite being raised in the same community. Dong learned firsthand how people truly were while Bora learned it in much harder lessons. Which allowed her to become more reserved and weary of people. Trusting her instincts rather than the first fake impression people give just to make the other feel comfortable or impressed.
Which was how she also found out about Minji.
“He made you break up with her?” Dong frowned when she read the texts.
She wasn’t snooping, Bora had given her the phone, showing her everything she and the other woman had for a while. All right up until the day before their wedding day.
“He said Minji was someone that wouldn’t give me the life I deserved…” Bora whispered. “And that I was going to marry you regardless…” She sighed.
“I want to meet her,” Dong whispered.
“Why?” Bora looked at Dong with a worried expression, not sure what those words truly meant. It strikes fear in her chest and formed a pit in her stomach. Dong meeting Minji was a loaded gun with a crazed monkey just waiting to go off.
“Maybe it can help her? Clearly, she’s still upset about everything…” Dong glanced back at the messages, seeing the different bubbles from Minji’s end asking why her father had to be the way he was and why Bora hadn’t told her sooner about everything.
She was hurt. And if Bora really didn’t tell her sooner about anything… then Minji deserved to maybe slap her in the face.
Meeting with Minji had maybe been one of the more intense things Dong had ever done. Minji was gorgeous, tall, and very kind. It was no wonder why Bora fell hard for her and still tried to keep her at arm's length after she was married.
“Who is she?” Yubin whispered.
Dong glanced over at her friend, seeing her eyes trained on Minji.
“That’s Bora’s ex…” Dong explained. “Why? Are you interested?” She smirked.
“She’s really pretty… And she looks… really… kind…” Yubin smiled. “Do you think I have a shot?” She asked quietly.
“Maybe in time… Bora broke up with her the day before our wedding. We’ve only been married a few months now…” Dong sighed. “Maybe just be her friend first,” She whispered.
“I can do that,” Yubin muttered. “Or at least attempt to…” She shrugged.
“Attempt to be her friend first. If I see you doing anything more than that… I’ll kill you.” Dong glared.
“Alright, alright. Don’t need to be so mean about it,” Yubin chuckled.
