In which it was a long day and Peter makes it better
Peter stared up at the ceiling in his room in the compound. He couldn't sleep, and he didn't know why. He was exhausted, so why? Why couldn't he go to sleep?
It hit him. He hadn't said goodnight to Mr. Stark. He needed to do that. Peter hopped out of bed to go find his father.
It didn't take long for Peter to find him. The man was in the lab... still?
Peter poked his head inside.
"Mr. Stark?"
Tony perked up immediately as soon as he heard Peter's voice.
"What's up kid?" Tony asked. He hoped the kid would come in and give him a hug. He needed a hug.
"I just wanted to say goodnight," The kid said meekly. Tony laughed inwardly only Peter would get up at 2:00 in the morning to say goodnight to him.
"Night kiddo," Tony replied.
Peter was about to duck out of the lab, but Mr. Stark sounded like he needed comforting. Peter ran into the lab and hugged him. Mr. Stark made a surprised snort.
"Mr. Stark?"
"Yes Peter?" The man relaxed and wrapped his arms around Peter.
"Thank you."
"For what?" the man sounded confused.
"Everything that you have done for me. Thanks for taking care of me, and being like a father to me."
Mr. Stark didn't respond at first. Then his shoulders shook. For a second Peter thought he was laughing.
He wasn't.
He was crying.
"Mr. Stark are you okay?" Peter asked, concerned.
"Yeah kid... I just... Thank you. That meant so much to me," Mr. Stark finally choked out his reply. After a long time Tony finally spoke, "I should go to bed."
They walked out of the lab together. Peter watched fondly as Mr. Stark headed to his room. Smiling Peter skipped away to his own room. He had made Mr. Stark's night.
