In which a child brings peace of mind
Pepper slipped into bed next to Tony.
"Hey honey," Tony mumbled with his face pushed into his pillow.
"Did I wake you up?" Pepper asked.
Tony rolled over in bed and faced her.
"Nah, I was waiting up for you," He smiled tiredly. Pepper knew that face.
She had woken him up.
"Thanks for waiting up for me," Pepper brushed his cheek gently.
She rolled over and Tony tucked his arm around her.
"I'm glad you're home," Tony mumbled nestled his head close to her.
He let out a small snor. Pepper smiled and drifted to sleep as well.
Tony still had nightmares.
They were never very bad, or very long, but they would still come from time to time.
Tony found himself standing on Titan.
No. No. It had been so long since he had had this dream. Why had it come now?
Thanos appeared out of nowhere.
Nope. Come on! Wake up! Tony tried to will himself awake.
Thanos reached and grabbed him.
Tony jumped and woke up. There was a small hand shaking his arm.
"Daddy..." Tony jumped a little at the sound of Morgan's voice, "I had a bad dream."
Tony sighed. He hoped he hadn't passed down that specific genetic issue to his daughter.
"Are you okay baby?" Tony sat up in bed a little.
Morgan shook her head.
"Do you want to come get in bed with me and mom?"
Morgan was much smarter than the average four year old.
She noticed more things than most four year olds.
She had figured out that her father had nightmares.
Morgan had not had a nightmare. Morgan had gone into her father's room to check on him like she always did when she woke up in the middle of the night. He had obviously been having a bad dream, so she had decided to wake him up. Her having a nightmare was a cover story.
"Yes please," Morgan climbed into bed with her dad.
"Good night sweety," He wrapped his arms around her. He seemed to relax.
Morgan smiled. She had succeeded.
