It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
But before the kiss, they had comfortably moved around the other; for over a year.
Weaving through their individual worlds along paths that caused them to cross.
When the fork in their roads brought them to the other there was a pause, a glance, a smile.
Holtzmann had reached out to Erin at the end of her path one day, she was tired, her body ached and she was exhausted.
‘Erin,’ she had murmured as she rose from her desk, hand out meandering her way with silly purposeful footsteps towards the woman’s desk. The auburn-haired scientist rose to her feet with a smile as she stepped around her desk, meeting the crazy blonde halfway and Holtz pulled her into her arms.
It was nothing more than a hug between friends and Erin cuddled into her but it was brief because then Holtzmann pulled back a little, still holding her and she started to sway, and Erin laughed softly, biting her lower lip in concentration as she found her footing and they began to dance.
They held each other in the middle of the lab, silent as they danced to imaginary music and Holtzmann began to hum softly, occasionally uttering words of a song the physicist didn’t recognise. She felt herself blush as soft murmurs of, you’re beautiful and I love holding you escaped rosy lips.
Holtz looked at Erin, her eyes half closed as she turned her in a small circle and Erin felt herself blush again, the blonde noticing and playing on it, whispering more lyrics, I want you forever.
‘Holtz,’ Erin murmured, as the blonde continued to hum her tune, and she closed her eyes for a moment, opening them to blue eyes fixed on her own.
‘Mmm?’
Erin shook her head, leaning in a little more and letting herself sway with the blonde.
‘I don’t know this song?’ Erin said softly, whispering close to the woman’s ear and Holtzmann shivered at the warm air.
‘It’s only new,’ Holtz replied as she pulled away from Erin a little, pushing her softly to arms length, holding one of her hands and encouraging her to twirl. Erin laughed as she spun a little and Holtz pulled her back into her arms.
‘Oh?’
Holtzmann nodded, her cheek sliding against Erin’s.
“Yeah, I only just finished it.’
‘You wrote it?’
Erin pulled back a little smiling in awe, feeling Holtzmann’s hand that was resting on her shoulder blade slide to her lower back and her thumb rubbed softly.
‘Yeah…for you.’
The woman creased her brow as Holtzmann grinned at her, and Erin smiled back, the blush returning to her heated cheeks.
‘You wrote me a song?’
Holtzmann nodded as Erin’s arms slid up to her shoulders and she leaned in a little more, the engineer pulling her close.
‘I’ve written you a lot of songs.’
Erin tilted her head a little, her cheek against the woman’s shoulder and Holtz looked down to her, her eyes trailing down to her lips and Erin lifted her head, not hesitating and she pressed a kiss to the blonde’s lips.
Holtzmann stopped their swaying and pulled Erin closer, their lips finding each other and they kissed softly again.
It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
They spent every night together after that first kiss.
Every night as though they had always spent every night together.
They continued to comfortably move with each other.
They shared a kind of love that was rare.
A love that was inevitable.
Because they had always been inevitable.
As if the world knew they were meant to be.
As if the universe and stars that surrounded them were made for them, and them alone.
They understood each other even when only minimal words were used.
Holtzmann shared songs she’d written about Erin with Erin.
The woman gazed at her girlfriend, watching as she played her guitar, softly singing words of love as Erin snuggled into a blanket on the couch next to her.
‘That was beautiful,‘ Erin murmured as Holtzmann finished singing, and the blonde blushed, putting her guitar down next to the couch and sliding over to her, sinking into the blanket too. Erin slipped her arms around petite shoulders, pulling her close for a kiss, their lips fitting perfectly with the other. Perfectly. Because they had been created for each other, and they were beginning to realise that.
It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
They fell into bed, a mess of bare skin, gentle kisses and sighs.
Fingers trailed bodies, danced along edges and curves.
Sometimes they began with the moon, not stopping until the sun rose.
Bathed in the rays of a new day, after the moon-light had said goodbye.
They were always exploring the other, slow and soft and sensual.
Skin was kissed and tongues left trails eliciting moans and gasps.
Bodies raised and arched.
Whimpers were caught in throats as kisses took over.
Sometimes they paused, because being together was more than physical, it was a connection, an understanding, and they shared words they’d never even dared to speak to another.
They shared their thoughts and hopes and dreams, never having to be ashamed of what the other would say, or how they would react.
They were two sides of the same coin.
Always searching for the other in every life.
Always finding the other.
Kindred spirits.
Soulmates.
It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
Neither ever stopped showing love for the other.
And Holtzmann planned on showing Erin just how much when she had bundles and bundles of daisies delivered to the Firehouse. Bouquets of Erin’s favourite flower were carried by the armload up to the Firehouse roof, the woman unaware of the florals she would return to while out with Patty.
Abby helped Holtzmann decorate the roof, part of it blanketed in the white flowers and Abby stood upon a ladder, finalising strings of festoon lights to add to the magical ambience.
It had only been a few months.
It was all either of them would ever need though.
They knew in their souls they were meant to be.
They had always known.
They build their own universe, one for just them. Created out of all the matter and energy they could summon.
They were their own cosmos. Of stars and planets and dust and time.
And they had all the time in the world, in their world.
Holtzmann dug her hand into her pocket, pulling out a red velvet ring box and she exhaled.
‘She loves you so much you know,’ Abby said, as she watched from atop the ladder, the blonde looking up at her.
‘Every part of me aches for her.’
‘I know Holtz.’
Erin said yes that night.
As Holtzmann was down on one knee, both surrounded by what looked like a field of white, Erin nodded and pulled the blonde to her feet, the ring being slipped on her finger. Erin grinned hard, looking from the ring to the woman before her and then they leaned in with soft smiles, and they kissed. They kissed and didn’t stop, not until lips were swollen and hearts were full.
It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
Erin stood in front of a full length mirror, clothed in a white lacy dress, it was long sleeved and her arms were covered in beautiful delicate fabric. Her Mom smiled at her, tears in her eyes.
‘You are so beautiful.’
Erin looked down, embarrassed but ever so happy.
‘Do you think Holtz will like it?’
‘It’s you my darling,’ her mother replied, taking her face in her hands and then trailing them to her shoulders. ‘She loves you more than I’ve ever known anyone to love.’
Erin’s eyes filled with tears and she nodded, laughing softly in the hopes to stop her tears and her mother handed her a tissue, smiling.
‘I love her so much,’ Erin said as she dabbed at her eyes so as not to mess up her makeup, ‘and she’s going to be my wife.’
It started with a kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
They grew old together, but their love never did.
Their love never wavered.
Never.
They lived and loved through their years together.
They travelled.
They laughed.
They never once let the other down.
And when it was time to return to the universe and once again become part of the stars, they made promises to find one another in their next life.
They said their goodbye, shedding tears and heartache and one last kiss.
A kiss that Erin had longed for, a kiss Holtzmann had longed to give.
