Y/N was an introverted twenty-two year old just living their life the best they could. They had a few close family members and friends; namely their older sibling and two best friends. No pets or roommates, struggling to get by with a job and trying to find the time to socialize while preferring to be alone. Y/N had everything they needed- food, water, clothes and shelter. Yet, they still somehow felt empty, blaming the feeling on all the relationships they'd seen in real life and in media.
Â
Y/N sat on their bed alone in their apartment, watching an adorable adventure-filled show called Lego Monkie Kid. They had watched the show all the way through multiple times, each time appreciating all the details and love put into the show. It was obvious to Y/N how much hard work and effort had been painstakingly carved into the very foundation. All the characters; whether innocent background characters, heroic or villainous main or side characters; were each created with unique personalities and designs. Y/N couldn't bring themselves to hate any of them; not even the Lady Bone Demon.
Â
"Man, I wish I could go on cool mystical adventures like them... if only I had friends to do that with..." Y/N said softly, reminiscing about their few friends from school. Their friend group had been incredibly close until just a few months ago after a fight had broken out. Y/N honestly thought the reason was dumb, but decided not to feed into the drama, instead choosing to withdraw from the ones who had started the fight. But in time, their friends had gotten busy with life, as had Y/N. Some chose extra schooling or college, some chose to start families, and some jumped into the workforce.
Â
Letting out a yawn, Y/N checked the time on their phone. 2:34am shone brightly at the top of their phone screen. Y/N laid down and got comfortable enough to fall asleep. Luckily they had the next day off of work, having an odd schedule made them constantly tired. They needed the money though, so they often had to force themself into going to their job. They were on their feet nearly all hours of the day and relished the mornings they could sleep in.
Y/N closed their eyes and let the sound of the show carry on as sleep washed over their tired body like a sweet embrace.
Â
"Are they even...ya know, alive?"
"They are! I can feel their pulse!"
Y/N felt someone gently shake their shoulder. They let out a small grunt at the rude awakening. 'Could they keep the noise down? Wait....who?' Y/N thought, eyes snapping wide open. The last they remembered they had fallen asleep at home watching their favorite show.
Â
"Woah there bud! You okay there?" A tall cape-wearing monkey questioned as Y/N sat bolt-upright. Y/N looked around, seeing Sun Wukong and MK from Lego Monkie Kid. Shock was all Y/N could register at the moment. MK gently placed a hand on Y/N's shoulder, attempting to bring them out of their shocked state.
"Hey, hey you're okay. Breathe." MK tried to calm the new stranger, knowing full well how bad a panic attack could be. Y/N took deep breathes, trying to keep their cool. This had to be a dream. A really realistic, colorful dream. Y/N could feel MK's touches and Wukong's concern was clear on his face. 'This has to be a dream... right?' Y/N thought, confused. Everything was too realistic. Sure, Y/N had wondered and daydreamed about characters from other franchises before, but this was...well, this was different somehow.
Â
"Are we calm now? Good! I'm so sorry for scaring you new friend! We just didn't know if you were okay and my mentor was-"
Â
"Was worried for your safety kid. Glad you're alright. Name's Sun Wukong. Great Sage, Equal to Heaven!" Wukong gave a cheeky grin, crossing his arms and making eye contact with Y/N.
Â
"And you can call me MK! I can't wait for you to meet all my other friends! There's Mei and Sandy! And Tang and Pigsy and-"
Â
"Okay MK. Let's give our new friend a sec to get their head on straight. They just woke up and we haven't even got their name yet!" Wukong chuckled, throwing an arm around his pupil. MK laughed.
Â
"Oh, yeah, sorry! What'd you say your name is?" MK asked, Wukong shaking his head playfully. They both waited for an answer as Y/N finally got their bearings. 'Okay. This is fine, we'll say this is just a dream so no harm no foul.'
Â
"I, uh... M-my name is Y/N. Y/N L/N. Where exactly are we?" Y/N couldn't let the characters know they knew who they were unless they wanted to come off creepy, which wasn't the intention. Wukong cocked his head to the side.
Â
"Not from around here? This is Megapolis."
