Chapter 1
Another day at Nevermore. After the events that had occurred just the night before it was safe to say that Enid was exhausted, but yet apparently her roommate was not. Enid could hear the sound of a deafening cello. Usually, Enid was accustomed to this, but today was not the day.
Enid forced a pillow on top of her face and groaned loudly. “Wednesday!” Enid was well aware her voice would not be heard against the strumming of the cello but tried anyway. “Wednesday” she exclaimed again but to no avail.
Enid groaned again and sat up on the edge of her bed, a fluffy cat toy falling beside her feet as she did so with a small thump. Glancing over at the huge window in the middle of the room was of course Wednesday. Focused head moving side to side through the action of playing the instrument. Enid stretched and stood up accepting that she was not going to get anymore sleep. Picking up her phone and glancing at the time she realised it was 9 am already.
When did Wednesday sleep? It was already very late by the time everyone returned to their dorms last night.
As if on cue the music coming from the balcony came to a halt and the sound of Wednesday opening and closing the window came closer.
“Good morning Enid” Wednesday spoke in her usual monotone, no emotion, and continued to move toward her bed where the cello case lay open. She was dressed as usual, in a white button-up shirt that peaked through her checkered black and white jumper, paired with black trousers that flared a little, and of course black boots. Enid looked her up and down quietly and slightly bit her lip, Wednesday looked pretty today, though she can’t really think of a time when she didn’t look pretty. Enid shook her head of her thoughts.
“Hi” Enid sighed, it was hard to be mad considering what they had both just gone through the night before “what time did you get up” Enid questioned curiously though had an idea that perhaps Wednesday did not sleep at all which was a pretty usual occurrence. Sleep is apparently for the weak, something she's sure she’d heard Wednesday said after she had been complaining about being tired a little while ago. “It eats into pressure time, night is where I think best” is the only thing she really recalls from that conversation.
“I didn’t sleep” Wednesday spoke as she placed the cello back into its case and secured it shut “After the events of last night I stayed up writing” she stood up straight and faced Enid. “it's prodigious what a near-death experience can inspire for my novel”
“You could have waited a little longer to play the cello this morning I’m so tired” Enid stood up and moved toward the centre of the room, waving her arms a little in displeasure. They stand face to face, contrasting colours from the room and clothes a clear divide between them.
Wednesday stood stoic and non-moving “It’s 9 am” she stated bluntly, “I thought you preferred this to my midnight playings”
Enid puffed and waved her arms again “Yes I do” she paused, “but I'm not usually up all night fighting a Tyler-sized hyde monster” she looked and tilted her head down at Wednesday trying to gain a little sympathy.
She should have known this wouldn't work, she was talking to Wednesday, and Wednesday was not exactly sympathetic.
“Enid” Wednesday folder her arms in front of her chest she looked slightly… uncomfortable? It was hard to say, Wednesday has only ever really expressed three emotions, and even then Enid wasn’t exactly sure what they were. She remembers being told ‘Emotions are a gateway trait. They lead to feelings, which trigger tears. I don’t do tears.’ Enid nearly burst into tears at the thought of not being able to burst into tears.
“I wish to express my gratitude to you appropriately” Wednesday breathed out a little, only very slightly, Enid only noticed due to her heightened senses at the moment after her wolf out last night. Apparently, she was much more tuned in to what was happening around her. “I am yet to find something fitting for you, but trust that it will come in due course, later today.”
“Really” Enid exclaimed excitedly and let out a little squeal and clapped her hands together. “You’re forgiven don’t worry about the cello, get to work Wednesday” Enid scurried back over to her bed and began making it.
“I’ll be back later” Wednesday spoke into the room as she moved closer toward the door.
“Okay!” Enid threw a thumbs up her way as she picked up the few toys that had fallen from her bed onto the ground.

Wednesday was annoyed, she didn’t like people and right now there were too many around. Talking to her. She was being praised for her heroics from the previous night.
“Wednesday!!” She heard her name being called yet again from across the room, she was so close to the door. It was raining outside it was perfect. She continued walking, she was going outside, she knew whatever was about to be said to her would be unnecessary.
“Wednesday hey” it was Ajax and he was out of breath from chasing her across the dining hall and had unfortunately caught up to Wednesday.
Wednesday didn’t respond she turned around and stared at Ajax, blank of any emotion. He shifted backward slightly at the glare he was being given.
“Hi, sorry you were walking so fast I just wanted to ask you what was going on” Ajax tugged on his beanie hat nervously.
Wednesday moved closer to him and spoke lightly “Run up to me like that again and I’ll make sure you never run again”
Ajax laughed a little. It felt like the only appropriate emotion considering he was sure she would make good on that threat next time. “Yeah yeah okay noted, my bad” he murmured, “I just wanted to know if you had seen Enid yet this morning, she's usually down here by now” he paused and looked around as if looking for her, “We have that big assembly later about you know..” Ajax lowered his voice as if hiding the fact that the school was now traumatised by some guy that wasn’t even a part of the academy
Wednesday immediately tensed up, though not because of the mention of Tyler, no this was a different reason entirely. Luckily this went unnoticed by the lanky boy in front of her. “I’m sure if Enid wanted you to know of her whereabouts she would have made an appearance by now” She felt her stomach tighten in what she could only place as rage. “Now leave me alone and don't approach me again unless you want to lose control of all your bodily functions” she warned and walked away, though it looked more like stomping? Yep, she stomped away.
Time to plan Enids… gift?
###
Meanwhile, Enid was hanging around her room. She didn't feel much like socialising right now she was going over what had happened yesterday and the events leading up.
She sighed loudly nothing was helping, not planning her next club activity, not music, not reading. She did not want to admit that she was a little bit more stressed than she had let on. “Not that Wednesday would have noticed anyway” she commented quietly to no one but herself. Enid's first transformation should have involved her getting to grips with her new form, getting to grips with her new senses, and she didn't get the chance to do that, it was snatched away by none other than her roommate's sort of boyfriend. She decided she would go back to sleep, no one was expecting her anywhere anyway and she was just so damn tired. She moved back to sit on her bed and lie down, it was only a few seconds before she found herself snoring quietly.
###
Enid awoke with a start, she sat up quickly gasping, and her claws extended. She looked down at her hands confused, this was new. Enid wasn’t one to get nightmares, she was usually sound asleep, and if anything she usually had pleasant dreams.
“I have been sitting here for an hour” Enid snapped her gaze to the sound of a voice and jumped yet again.
“Jesus Wednesday” Her hand flew to her chest in fright. “What the hell” she hit the mattress beside her in a mix of surprise and fear.
“I see you have awoken with a start.” Wednesday proceeded to ignore Enid's comments “I trust you had a good nightmare?” she paused slightly and walked over to the centre of the room, for some reason she never crossed the threshold it felt… personal. “Though I don't understand your distress, it has been much too long since I have had the pleasure of waking up in a cold sweat from the grips of a terrifying dream.” She stood pondering the thought.
“Anyway,” She yet again moved back to her side of the room toward her desk which held her prized typewriter. “I have prepared something for you” Wednesday glanced around her desk and then again around the room. “You haven’t seen thing have you?”
“Not today, though I have been asleep most of it” Enid responded and picked up her phone which had fallen on the floor beside her bed to glance over at the time again. “What's the surprise? I’m excited” She jumped up, claws sheathed, nightmare forgotten. For the most part anyway.
“Ajax was asking after you” Wednesday ignored her again and paused, she looked over to Enid, gauging a reaction. “I was under the impression you were not together anymore”
Enid frowned slightly in thought “huh” she moved to look under the bed to grab a pair of brightly coloured boots. “We aren’t, but I guess we are still friends, what did he want” She proceeded to push her foot into one of the boots.
Wednesday lifted her eyebrow in distaste, unbeknownst to Enid who was tying the lace of one of her boots. Only to yet again ignore what Enid was saying completely.
“I’m leaving now meet me in the courtyard in no less than five minutes. If you don’t show up, you will find consequences later” Wednesday proceeded to leave the room
“Wait wait I’m ready now” Enid stood up after Wednesday, a little excitement bubbling in her chest, and with a slight curiosity of what ‘consequences’ meant, she shook her head at the thought and hurried out of the room after her beloved, oh uh roommate.
