Itsey Bitsey Spider
Peter wrung out the sewer water from his shirt and sighed. They had ended up in an old, closed down subway station. A lot of the lights needed to be replaced, and the floor was grimy. But they were safe for now.
The Kraang found them again, and the warehouse was no longer safe. Peter's spider sense had been on high alert for so long, that the warning didn't even register until it was too late. He won't be making the same mistake again.
On the way into to the subway systems, there was a major accident where both Peter and Splinter were occupied by the Kraang, and the cart had rolled down into the subway stairs. Neither Peter's web, nor Splinter's desperate lunge for the cart was fast enough. It threw Raphael off, and had broken a piece of his plastron. Both of them had torn into the Kraang bot holding them off when they saw this, and they all barely managed to escape. Peter's spider scenes and raised hackles that were telling him that everything was a threat and dangerous and needed to be eliminated had only calmed down after they had made sure that little Raphael was alright.
Then, once they were underground into the sewers, they were surrounded, and had to fight the alien robots. Again. The cart ended up in the water though, and Splinter had immediately jumped in after it. After about 20 seconds with no sign of them resurfacing, Peter hopped in to help. He found his rat companion trying to fight the current and free the turtles, who were somehow trapped under their cart when it fell. Using his enhanced strength, Peter was able to flip the cart over. But they ended up being sucked into the tunnels and large pipes. The two (mostly) mammals of the group ended up being dragged along like cloths in a washing machine until the turtles took initiative. They pulled both him and Splinter to the dry and open area that they were in now.
“Itsey Bitsey Spider my ass.”
Peter grumbled to himself as he picked up his now soaked backpack, and a couple of Splinter’s stuff that washed up. They were going to have to go search for the rest of the weapons, weren’t they? Sometimes, he wished he had better luck.
But in all seriousness, they were safe for the time being. He doubted the Kraang could track them through the sewers. The running water would erase any indication of their presence. Plus, this place was practically a maze. With Peter's senses and Splinter's skills as ninja, they had the advantage here to take care of any threat. The Kraang weren't the only ones that they had to worry about, after all.
Giving their new location a look, he could see that it was connected to an abandoned subway station. From where they landed, he could see the tunnels that were dully lit.
Huh, maybe they could live here. If they worked hard enough, he might be able to install some kind of kitchen and water system.
Splinter stood up from where he was hugging his turtles. Peter quickly made his way over to check on the tired rat. He looked worn out, and very wet, but he saw no visible injuries. The turtles were also up and about, keeping close to the two of them, but itching to go explore their new home for the time being.
"Ugh, that sucked."
Splinter's eyes crinkled, and he began to chuckle. It was a worn out and tired one, but Peter could detect a little bit of ...affection?
"Indeed. You have no injuries?"
Aww, he cares.
"Just really wet. You?"
"I am also very wet. Check on Leonardo and Raphael for me?"
Peter froze a little. Splinter was trusting him to check on two of his sons? Peter hadn't thought that the overprotective rat dad would trust him of all people with such a task...
He took a shuddering breath. Calming himself, he approached the two turtles. Little Leonardo kept a tight grip on Raphael's hand. Now that he looks closely, he could see that all the turtle babies seemed to be checking on their brother in their own ways.
He crouched down in front of them, and they crawled forward to close the gap. Soon, Peter found himself with two little turtles using him as a jungle gym. Leonardo looked to be unharmed, and Raphael seemed to be doing fine as well, despite the small, lightning shaped crack.
Peter could feel the stupid grin that spread over his face. He couldn't help it though. He had always liked hanging out with little kids. This was like a dream come true!
Glancing over to Splinter, he could see that the Rat was also handling an arm full of baby mutant turtles.
"I believe we are safe here for the time being."
Peter hoped so too.
