Sunday Morning Love
Waking up is slow and lazy, nowadays. Steve no longer rises with the sun, lulled into a deeper sleep by the warmth that curls into his side. Speaking of that warmth...
Tony curls closer, pressing his face against Steve’s neck in attempts to stave off consciousness. Steve laughs quietly, pulling his boyfriend closer.
“Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty.”
Tony groans, voice rough with sleep. “Five more minutes, Stevie. Just five.”
The blond simply smiles up at the ceiling, trailing his fingers up and down Tony’s arm. Who was he to refuse his favorite genius? Besides, he knows Tony will be up and running at full power soon, so it’s best to savor the bliss while it lasts. As if reading his mind, Tony shifts a little, moving away to stretch languidly- Steve is briefly reminded of a cat. When the genius relaxes back into the mattress, blinking brown eyes blearily, Steve props himself up onto an elbow.
“Good morning.”
Tony shifts his gaze to meet Steve’s, fighting a smile.
“It’s not a good morning until there’s coffee.”
Laughing, Steve rolls away and swings his legs off the bed, standing next to it. Behind him, Tony whines.
“No, wait- come back. You’re much better than coffee.”
“Oh? Don’t let the coffee hear you say that.”
“I’m cold, Steve.”
Steve laughs at the pout in Tony’s voice before he slips back under the covers. Tony immediately snuggles up again, sighing in content when they both relax.
“I love you.”
Steve blinks in surprise and looks down at Tony, whose face is hidden in Steve’s chest. The smaller man was never prone to openly expressing what he was feeling- he was more a man of action, than words. Steve can feel Tony’s lips curl into a smile against his skin.
“I heard your heart jump.”
“Shut up, Stark.”
Tony laughs, and they fall into a comfortable silence that only lasts a few minutes until Tony breaks it with a whisper.
“I do mean it, though.”
Steve smiles and lifts a hand to sink into Tony’s hair, running through it slowly.
“I love you, too.”
