Chapter 1
Regulus Black is a flirt. Dozens of people fall in love with him every night, but that’s not his fault. He got his looks from his parents, so that’s about the only thing they’d ever done for him. Sirius is the one who unknowingly taught Regulus how to flirt through. He’d seen Sirius lure plenty of guys in, just to forget about them the next night at whatever party they went to. Naturally, Regulus picked up that habit pretty quickly as well. And though Sirius wouldn't recognize him now, Regulus likes to think his brother would be proud.
Oh yeah, and he’s also kind of famous. He likes to pretend he’s not because he never meant the band idea to go this far. But now he, Pandora, Barty, and Evan are on tour after the release of an album they didn’t even think they would write. He secretly loves it though, being on tour, being in the spotlight, and being in a new place every night where he doesn’t know anyone but his couple of bandmates. It’s all so thrilling for Regulus.
So all of this being said you can see why Regulus breaks so many hearts. He just flirts. People get this funny idea that he might stay longer for them. He really just thinks those ones are funny. Regulus Black doesn't fall in love. He honestly thinks he never will.
Currently, Regulus is standing in his dressing room staring at himself in the mirror and adjusting his curls. He likes when the soft black waves fall in just the right way to frame his eyes. He’s always worn his hair shorter than how Sirius keeps his, but now that his has grown out more than usual he’s starting to see the appeal.
The opening band starts to play the last song of their set and Regulus’ door bursts open. Evan, of course, is the first through the door inevitably followed by Barty who is swinging his drumsticks around.
“Would you stop making heart eyes at yourself? It’s almost time to go out” Evan mocks Regulus
“Oh shut the fuck up. I don’t need to make heart eyes at myself when I’m about to have hundreds of people doing just that in 5 minutes. Besides don’t act like you wouldn’t.” Regulus quickly shoots back with a wink.
This snatches Barty’s attention from his stupid drumsticks, “Hey, stop flirting with my boyfriend asshole.”
“Aw, is somebody afraid I could steal him so quickly?” Regulus asks, bottom lip jutting out in a mocking pouty face.
Evan’s clearly had enough of this back and forth before it’s even started because he loudly states, “Alright ladies that was our cue like two fucking minutes ago, so you can stop fighting over the most beautiful, gorgeous, cool bassist you know.”
Regulus makes a gagging noise, “You know what Barty, on second thought you can keep him” and quickly walks out of the room before the couple starts like making out or some shit.
It’s then he runs flat into the literal angel of the band. Pandora. Sweet, soft, yet still strong enough to put up with the three guys, Pandora. Literally, whatever ever higher power is out there needs to bless her because she deserves a fucking raise for putting up with them.
“Hey P. Before you ask, they know we have to go on, but your gonna want to give them five. I guarantee they are making out right now.”
Groaning Pandora responds, “Reggg, You have to stop teasing them right before we go on. This happens literally every time you do.”
“Yea whatever. Fine. You look extra shiny tonight, I like it. Is there an occasion?” Regulus knows Pandora usually has some sort of ethereal glitter smattered across her eyelids, he even lets her put some on him sometimes, but tonight is something else. She has on purple highlighter and like four shades of purple glitter accenting different parts of her eyes.
“I actually invited someone tonight, so I uh thought it’d be fine to add a little extra”
At that Regulus’ ears perk up. “Pandora’s got a girl? You didn’t tell me. Ugh, you wound me, love. How dare you not inform me until now.” He’s mocking grabbing at his chest as if he’s been stabbed in the heart.
“Oh shove it. I knew she was safe from your flirting, so I didn’t feel the need.”
“Oh don’t doubt me. Just because I wouldn’t want her for myself doesn’t mean she’s immune. I could make her fall so hard she wouldn't even realize until it was too late. Which for the record, I will not do because you are one of the only people I can stand most of the time.”
Pandora blows out a breath. “Oh my god, Reg. You seriously have to stop breaking people's hearts so often. I’m starting to feel bad for them, and concerned for you.”
Regulus blows out a breath. He likes being single, and really truly enjoys not having anyone that he’s tethered to. Why would he want someone to miss while he going from city to city each night? Why would he want just one person to flirt with? Just one person he can be truly himself with. One person he can just be around.
Woah. Wait. Fuck. No actually he seriously does like being single.
Barty and Evan both exit the dressing room looking slightly more disheveled but a little calmer. Pandora shares a look with them that screams “hurry up idiots we were supposed to be on ten minutes ago”. Regulus grabs his guitar while the others gather their things to walk out on stage.
--- --- ---
James Potter is slightly overwhelmed. Lily dragged him to this concert because one of the band members invited her. Honestly, he was baffled by that. He’d heard of the band before, so when Lily said that she’s been talking to Pandora Lovegood, James was literally giddy for her. It’s not just the two of them at this concert. Marlene eats shit like this up, so obviously she’s here with her girlfriend. James knows it’s the darker more rock-leaning music that she likes. Not like the classic stuff that Remus listens to. It kind of looks like they are on a double date right now.
He’s worrying over the double date thing when Lily starts jumping up and down because that opening band is walking onto the stage. Everything is a blur of lights and music he doesn’t know for the next half hour. Once they exit James is ready for the headliner to actually perform, but it doesn’t seem like they are coming out yet.
He leans over to Lily to ask her how she met Pandora because he didn’t think to ask that question earlier.
“I just was in a coffee shop around where my parents live and this girl in front of me paid for my drink. I thanked her thinking she was just asking the universe for good karma, but when the barista handed me my cup her receipt was taped to it with a number and name. I texted her and that night we just went out for dinner and talked. Turned out she and the band had a rest day in the city after a few days straight of shows and travel.”
Ok. James will admit that was actually kind of cute. Very Lily way to meet someone. Honestly, it seems to contrast the band’s overall vibe. When James said he’d heard of them, he meant he’d heard the band's name before. He genuinely knows nothing about them, that is his second problem right now in addition to the double date issue. His knowledge of this band is limited to the name of it and the posters he saw on his way in here.
He also knows right now that they are late to the stage. James just watched all of their mics be set up and the drum kit placed on stage, but it’s been almost ten more minutes, and nothing but the chatter of the excited crowd can be heard.
Then someone steps on stage and the audience around him erupts into screams. This man goes and sits behind the drums, but it’s still too dark on stage to see anything but his silhouette. Another man walks on stage with and bass and takes up his position to the far right. The lights begin to light up the stage slightly in a deep purple color before the next band member walks out on stage.
It's a young woman in a short white skirt that seems to be made of some otherworldly silk or organza or god knows what. She has on a black corset laced thoroughly with lavender ribbons. Her hair runs long and thick, and kind of messily, over her shoulders and down her back. She’s short, shorter than Lily, but James can see what drew Lily in. This woman is otherworldy.
James’ attention was so focused on the girl though that he completely missed that the lights changed. Now he realized the lights are red and getting brighter by the second. There is a faint buzzing, then the crowd erupts into crazed cheers before he can even see who has entered the stage.
What James sees as the lights spot on the stage is the most beautiful person James has ever seen. His jaw is literally hanging slack right now, and if Lily wasn’t so distracted by the girl he would be getting so much shit for him gaping at the man in front of him. Lily is however very much distracted so James takes his time admiring the person in front of him.
He has almost black curls that frame his face but also hangs down his neck slightly. He has bold long eyelashes that frame his perfect dark grey eyes. He is dressed in head-to-toe black, but it’s not in the band tee and jeans like the bassist or drummer. This man has nice pants and a half-unbuttoned dress shirt.
He’s honestly just gorgeous. James doesn’t have any further words to describe him.
So yes, he’s standing there with his mouth hanging open in one of the first few rows of people staring up at the lead singer of this band he only vaguely knows of.
--- --- ---
Regulus always chooses one. He always picks out one fan to toy with for the night. After the show sometimes he makes out with them and sometimes he gets the fuck out of there because he just so happened to choose someone fucking crazy. He never goes further than making out with them, he's just not comfortable with that. He likes to come off as a tease anyway.
It is going to be especially fun tonight because Pandora is joining in on his flirting game. Don’t get him wrong Pandora has already chosen her person, but what’s the fun in that? Regulus toys with a lot of people during the first few songs before he locks on one person for the rest of the show.
Tonight though Regulus' eyes lock immediately on a guy who is standing there with his mouth hanging open at Regulus. Honestly usually people at their shows already know who he is, so they are screaming their heads off. This one is different. He looks like he has never seen Regulus before, and surely doesn’t know his reputation.
Oh, this one.
This one will be fun.
Regulus can’t even lie though. The man is really cute standing there gaping at him. He’s used to being stared at, but this guy looks like he’s never even seen Regulus’ face before. Not even on a poster. He has a mess of brown hair, brown skin, and round glasses. It looks like he’s come with a group of three other girls, which could pose a problem, but Regulus is willing to risk it.
Regulus glances at Pandora, who looks out of place in their band, but she truly belongs on the stage. Her makeup is shimmering in the lighting, and she is gazing down at a taller girl with long red hair. Yeah, Regulus knows she’d like someone like that. The girl is cheering shamelessly loud for Pandora. He is mentally cheering her on too.
He refocuses on the crowd, as a whole this time, and grabs his mic. That’s the only clue Barty needs to drum out the beginning of the first song of their set. With those first few beats they are fully immersed in a world of their own music. It’s all those kinds of songs you get ready to (or make out to) because they make you feel hot. Regulus is actually proud of their music, and it makes him feel good too.
It goes the same every night. Barty is on drums. Evan is on bass constantly glancing back at Barty. Pandora on guitar and backing Regulus with soft vocals. Regulus sings the first few songs mostly focused on the music, but he quickly falls into the lyrics. His eyes will start to linger on different people, and then after a couple of songs, they take a second to welcome the crowd as a band. They introduce themselves and usually end up teasing one another for a minute.
Tonight though Regulus’ eyes keep flitting back to the same man he locked eyes on when he first entered tonight. He decides to deviate from his typical performance/flirting routine.
At the end of the second song, he catches Pandora’s gaze while she is strumming the end of the song. He snatches his mic from the stand and struts over slinging his arm around her and sings the final notes of the song. She knows this is abnormal so as the lights dim slightly between songs she looks at him and says lightly, “What’s different tonight?”
Regulus jokes in response, “I think your girlfriend’s company is pretty cute, actually. Just wanted to warn you it’s gonna look like I’m flirting with her because he’s right next to her. Didn’t want you to feel threatened is all”.
Pandora just laughs in response. The lights get brighter again after they’ve all taken a breath. They play their next song, which may be Regulus’ favorite. It’s on Evan wrote. It shocks him that he actually enjoys it as much as he does, but is the most fun to perform.
Regulus walks around the stage with his mic. Swinging his hair all over and getting on his knees to be closer to the crows, and the man with the glasses who is still awestruck. Then, it’s then that Regulus knows exactly how he’s going to get this guy in his pocket tonight, and he’s gonna need a little help from Pandora.
--- --- ---
James is going to die. He genuinely can’t handle this right now. The lead singer will not stop staring at him, Regulus, James thinks that’s what he said when introducing himself. He’s not being insane, it’s not like he came to the concert hoping some celebrity would fall in love with him. The guy genuinely keeps staring. Lily actually noticed too. She screamed and slapped him the first few times she actually noticed. Now they are almost four songs into the show and he has hardly made any eye contact with anyone else in the crowd.
Then the fourth song ends and the guitarist, Pandora, Lily informed him of her name, begins playing something soft with a little bit of rhythm. It seems like this is something that doesn’t happen often because even the people around him that have known every song so far look around confused.
Regulus moves to stand on the edge of the stage with Pandora next to him. The pair is right above Lily and James. Oh, and from this close up he is even more beautiful. He's all soft curls and dark eyes. Stark contrasts to the angles of his cheeks and the style of his clothing. Pandora does a little finger wave at Lily briefly before she goes right back to the guitar, and the lead singer is still gazing at James. No, he is definitely going insane. This is not happening.
Regulus starts sing-talking to him saying, “Do you have a girl, I don't see a ring on your finger.”
Lily being who she is jumps up, hand on his shoulder, and screaming and pointing, “NO HE’S SINGLE”
Then James knows he’s literally lost his mind because the singer says “Well that’s interesting, have you ever thought about dating a singer?”
NO James has not thought about that. Not until now. Holy shit. This guy is good. The moment ends, but James feels stuck in it for the rest of the concert because Regulus’s eyes stay on his the whole time. The concert ends.
The band leaves the stage and then Lily drops that they are staying to meet the band because obviously, she knows Pandora.
James is fucked.
