The stars among us

The next day was hard, just as Tony expected it to be.

Getting Peter out of bed was extremely hard because Tony didn’t expect Peter to sleep so late so it was basically any normal school morning, only it was happening a few hours later than normal.

He practically dragged Peter to his bedroom and had to basically get Peter dressed because Peter went deadweight the whole time.

After that was done, Tony brought Peter out to the kitchen to feed him and packed Peter’s bag while he was doing that.

“Put your shoes and jacket on and then we’ll go.” Tony dropped both things onto the floor by the chair and sat there while he waited for Peter to make a move.

“I’m not going to school.” Peter looked over at Tony and tried to give him a dirty look but it wasn’t very good. Tony thought that he looked like an angry puppy.

“Yes you are. It’s two classes, Peter. And tomorrow I’ll take you to work with me so you get to be with me all day.” Tony reached down to pick up Peter’s shoes and hand one of them to him.

“I want to go to work with you today.” Peter smacked the shoe out of Tony’s hand and crossed his arms.

“Alright. Put your shoes and coat on right now or I’m taking away your legos.” Tony warned him. He would do it. He had to because he had to start being more strict with Peter.

Peter uncrossed his arms and tried to figure out if Tony was bluffing or not.

Tony gave Peter a chance but he didn’t listen so he stood up and walked over to the living room.

“Dad? What are you doing? Dad?!” Peter got up to follow him and grabbed onto his hand. “Stop.”

Tony picked up one of the boxes and started to shove all the pieces inside. “You’re not listening to me, Peter, so I’m taking this from you.”

“No. Stop. I’ll listen.” Peter shook Tony’s arm desperately to get him to stop.

“Okay. Then go get your stuff on or I’m taking another box.” Tony stood up and watched Peter run back into the kitchen and put his shoes on.

He got one on but then he was reaching up for the box in Tony’s hand desperately. “I need it! Are you gonna give it back now?”

“Maybe you’ll get it back after school.” Tony told him and set the box on the table.

The elevator doors opened and Rhodey walked out. Tony’s eyes lit up at seeing his best friend but he was busy with Peter so he couldn’t go greet him.

“Um, what’s going on here?” Rhodey asked as he walked slowly into the kitchen.

No one answered him. “I put my shoes on. Give me my box.”

“No. Stand up and put your jacket on then we’re going.” Tony looked back up at Rhodey and shrugged. “This is everyday.”

“Yeah. Pepper said you were extra busy these days. I was just here to say hi but apparently you’re too busy so I’ll come back. When are you free?” Rhodey opened the fridge and looked for a soda can.

Tony rubbed a hand over his face. “Uh… I don’t know. Today isn’t good but neither is tomorrow. Um… after I drop Peter off I have about two hours to myself so we can catch up.”

“I’ll be here. Where’s all your pop?” Rhodey asked, looking over at Tony.

“I don’t have any more pop because I don’t want Peter drinking it.” Tony told him and grabbed Peter’s arm to make him stand up. “Stop crying. There’s nothing to cry about, Peter. Wipe your tears away.”

Peter ripped his arm out of Tony’s grasp. “Yes there is. You’re being so rude to me.”

Tony rolled his eyes and grabbed his own jacket on the way to the elevator. He pulled Peter into the elevator but Peter grabbed onto the wall so he couldn’t be pulled in.

Tony had enough. Peter was acting like he was taking him to a summer camp for two months and not to school for only two classes. He grabbed onto his shoulders and bent down so he was at Peter’s height.

“Stop it. Right now. You’re making this harder for yourself and now I’m taking all your legos away for today. And use your legs because I’m not dragging you.” Tony didn’t feel bad for talking firmly to Peter. He knew he had been very lenient with him but it was starting to get out of control.

Peter stood there in shock. Tony never used his firm voice with him when he didn’t want to go to school. He lifted his hand up to his face once Tony let him go and he wiped his eyes.

“I-I’m sorry.” Peter tried even harder not to cry now since he knew he wasn’t allowed to or he would get in even more trouble.

Tony sighed. Now he was feeling bad. He had no idea what to do. He didn’t know if sending Peter to school after everything would be a good thing or not.

“No, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have yelled at you, bud. I just… you have to work with me.” Tony looked down at Peter who was hugging his arms around himself to try and self comfort.

“Yeah. I’m trying but-but I really don’t wanna go to s-school.” Peter slowly shuffled into his feet to get closer to Tony so Tony wrapped his arms around Peter.

“How about I drive you to school and you can see if you still want to go in by then. It’s up to you but remember, it’s just two classes and tomorrow you’re with me all day.” Tony squeezed Peter tighter and cranked his neck to look at him.

“Fine. I’ll see.” Peter wanted to try and knowing that he got to be with his dad for the full day tomorrow, did help him a lot.

The two of them made their way down to the garage and got into the car. Peter leaned his head against the window and watched the cars drive by.

It was snowing out a bit which added to the traffic that they had to sit in. Peter didn’t mind one bit since that meant more time with his dad and less time at school.

Peter felt his heart start to speed up like it always did when they turned the corner that led them down the street to his school. Peter lifted his head off the window and reached over to grab onto his dad’s hand.

“You’re okay. It’ll go by so fast.” Tony reassured him. He was still giving Peter the option to say that he didn’t want to go but he really hoped that Peter decided to go since he wanted to have some time alone to talk to Rhodey.

“I know. And you’ll pick me up, right?” Peter reached forward to grab onto Tony’s sweater that he was wearing under his jacket. Tony was so used to Peter touching him all over that it didn’t even phase him. He wondered when exactly all the touching became so normal.

“Like I always do, bud.” Tony pulled the car into the school kiss and ride and looked over at Peter to give him a reassuring smile. “I’ll see you in two hours and don’t forget to hand in your homework assignments that you did. Tell your biochemistry teacher to give you a due date for your assignment because there isn’t one.”

Peter gave a sharp nod. “Okay. I will. I’ll see you in two hours and you’ll be waiting here, right?”

Tony smiled at Peter’s need for continuous reassurances. He knew he had to be patient with him. “Absolutely. Right here. Give me a kiss goodbye.”

Peter took off his seatbelt and leaned over the center console to hug his dad. Tony pressed a kiss to the side of Peter’s face and squeezed him. “I love you. Right here after school.”

Peter nodded. “Yeah. I love you too.”

Tony watched Peter reach into the back seat to grab his backpack and then he was getting out of the car. Tony blew a kiss to his kid and watched him reluctantly turn around to leave.

Tony put the car into drive and drove away but he was so proud of Peter. Peter’s mood swings gave him extreme whiplash but he had to remember to look at life through Peter’s eyes.

He also never knew how Peter would react when he had to go to school. He wished he knew what made Peter lash out and cry and what made him exit the car with a smile but he simply didn’t know.

Tony got a coffee on the way home and blasted some AC/DC like he always used to do. It was nice to have some more alone time and he felt a bit guilty for thinking that but it was true nonetheless.

When he got home, he walked out of the elevator on his floor and sat down next to Rhodey on the couch. “Hey.”

Rhodey didn’t look up from his phone. “How was the drive?”

Tony kicked his feet up on the ottoman and sighed happily. “Ah. It’s so nice to sit by myself and not have a heavy weight sitting on top of me.”

Rhodey put his phone away and snickered. “I know Peter isn’t that heavy.”

“He only weighs like seventy pounds actually. Pretty freaky.” Tony shrugged. He remembered the very first time he picked Peter up and put way more strength into it than he should have and almost sent Peter flying into the air.

“So weight wise he’s like ten.” Rhodey paused and looked at Tony. “And mentally…”

Tony looked away from his best friend. He knew Rhodey didn’t mean any harm but it was still rude. “He’s been through a lot.”

Rhodey nodded then thankfully changed the subject. “So how’s things going with you two? Is he still sleeping with you?”

Tony pulled his phone out of his pocket to check the time then slapped it on his leg. “Yep. Every night. Actually, the night before last night, we slept in his bed and it only took like an hour of bribing him. Plus I got him this teddy bear that he already loves with my heart beat in it.”

“Does it work?” Rhodey asked, curiously.

“Hmm. I don’t know yet. Happy said he held onto it all day yesterday along with…” Tony reached next to him to grab Peter’s water bottle that he still had to wash. “this. He’s obsessed.”

Rhodey smiled at Peter’s water bottle. “That’s cute.”

“Yeah.” Tony tossed the water bottle onto the ottoman and leaned back again. “We also redecorated his whole bedroom. It’s blue now.”

“Sweet. Let’s go check it out.” Rhodey was already standing up and Tony groaned. He wanted to rest for his time off before he had to pick Peter up.

“Fine. Let’s go.” Tony stood up and followed Rhodey upstairs and into Peter’s bedroom. He made a dash for his kids bed and lied down on it.

Rhodey looked around the room and looked at all the pictures up on the walls. “Aw, this is a cute one of you two.”

Tony rolled his eyes. “They’re all cute.”

Rhodey rolled his eyes back at Tony. “Yeah but this one is more cute. It’s unplanned and I’m guessing Pepper took it.”

“Yep.” Tony popped the p and sat up. “So, I’m thinking about getting a bed rail for his bed too. I have one in my room for him but I don’t know if I should put one up in his room.”

Rhodey turned around to look at the bed. “If he falls off the bed at night then yeah, you should get it.” He walked closer to Tony and looked at the bed, seeming to look for something. “Where’s the bear?”

“Where do you think? My room.” Tony groaned again and sat up. He wondered if he should take a power nap for an hour.

Rhodey left Peter’s bedroom and made his way to Tony’s bedroom so Tony followed him. Rhodey grabbed the teddy bear off the bed and put it to his ear. “Oh. I hear it. And this helps him?”

“I told you, I don’t know yet.” Tony pushed away some of Peter’s dirty clothes on the floor. “And don’t mind the mess. All done by Peter.”

That had Rhodey looking up and looking around the room. “Wait. Is this your bedroom or Peter’s?”

Tony playfully smacked Rhodey on the arm. “Mine but don’t tell Peter that.”

Tony kicked more clothes into the corner, debating if he should do some laundry but he was too lazy to do that.

Him and Rhodey talked for a bit but then Tony had to go pick Peter up after what felt like two seconds. By the time they got back, Rhodey would be gone since he just came to say hi between his flights.

Tony got to Peter’s school and remembered just how busy it was at the end of the day. He was grateful that he had been picking Peter up early most days since he didn’t have to maneuver around cars.

He parked at the side of the school and waited for his kid to come out. There were a bunch of kids running out of the school and running to their parents cars or just gathering around the front of the school.

Tony leaned his arms against the steering wheel and looked out the window to see if Peter was coming. He spotted his kid as soon as he exited the school but he was talking to another kid that Tony didn’t recognize.

Tony watched as Peter looked around the parking lot for his car and then his face was lighting up when he saw it so he rushed over to it after barely saying goodbye to the boy.

Peter opened the front door and jumped into the car. “Hi dad. I missed you.” Peter threw himself into Tony’s arms which was an awkward angle for Tony.

“I missed you too. Who were you talking to?” Tony asked after Peter pulled away from him and took his backpack off so he could throw it into the back seat.

“Um, his name is Lucas. He’s just some new guy in my biochemistry class that I met in the halls.” Peter explained as he put his seatbelt on.

Tony put the car in drive but they were stuck in the parking lot traffic so they were going to be there for a while. “Is he nice?”

“Um, I guess. I don’t really know anything about him. He said he just moved here from like Calgary or something. Wherever that is.” Peter took his phone out of his pocket so he could text Ned back.

“It’s in Canada. So how did you guys meet?” Tony asked again. Some random kid decides to walk his kid out of the school so Tony wants to know if Lucas is trying to use Peter.

Peter groaned. “I told you. Biochemistry class from the halls.”

“Watch your attitude.” Tony warned him. A car cut him off so he had to slam on his breaks.

“I’m not…” Peter trailed off and put his phone between his legs then looked up at all the traffic. Good thing he was with his dad already. “Lucas is just some new kid. He said his family had to move because of his dad’s job. And I know he has two older brothers.”

Tony nodded. He didn’t know much about this Lucas kid but he hoped that the kid wasn’t trying to use Peter. “He’s probably nervous starting at a new school.”

Peter nodded then changed the subject. “Yeah, can we get McDonald’s?”

“No.” Tony finally pulled out into the road and headed home.

“Please, dad. I want it.” Peter grabbed onto Tony’s hand that was resting on the gear shift.

“No, I’ll make you something when we get home.” Tony pulled up to a red light and looked over at Peter.

“Please. I want it.” Peter tried again and shook Tony’s arm.

“No.”

“Yes”

Tony gave Peter a stern look. “No.”

“Yes.”

Tony looked back onto the road. He was the adult in this situation so he couldn’t play this back and forth game. “How was school?”

“I want McDonald’s.” Peter aggressively shook Tony’s arm so Tony pulled his arm back to his side.

“Well you’re not getting it and if you keep this up then I’ll never get you McDonald’s again.” Tony zipped down his window a bit because he was starting to sweat.

“I want chicken nuggets and a chocolate shake. And fries.” Peter gave Tony his best puppy dog eyes but Tony wasn’t even looking at him. “Please. Please please please.”

Tony groaned and pulled into the next lane so he could turn into the McDonald’s that was there.

Peter bounced on the seat next to him. “Yay! Chicken nuggets!”

He went to drive to get to the drive-through but there wasn’t one. “Oh no. There isn’t a drive-through, kid.”

Peter gasped. “Oh no. We have to go inside.”

Tony mentally debated with himself if he wanted to go inside to get the damn chicken nuggets but he didn’t want Peter to be in a bad mood so he pulled into a parking spot and shut the car off.

“Don’t run out of the car because there are cars.” Tony warned Peter before the both of them got out of the car.

Peter got out of the car and shut the door then ran over to Tony’s side to meet him there. Tony automatically grabbed Peter’s hand since he didn’t trust Peter in parking lots after what happened all those other times.

Once they got into the McDonald’s, Tony let go of Peter and looked around. It wasn’t busy at all which he was grateful for but he knew that it was only a matter of time before people started to show up.

Everyone was looking at him and Peter and although he was used to people staring at him, he didn’t like people staring at Peter so he pulled Peter against his chest and wrapped an arm around him.

The worker was staring up at Tony with wide eyes the whole time Peter was saying his order.

“Um, can I have um, chicken nuggets! And fries and a chocolate shake please?” Tony could feel Peter practically vibrating with excitement and Tony had no idea why Peter was so obsessed with McDonald’s.

“Of course, and can I get anything for you, sir?” The woman asked Tony.

“Yeah, I’ll get a coffee please.”

Once they got their food, the two of them went back to the car. Peter ate all his chicken nuggets on the way home and mostly all his drink which didn’t surprise Tony.

“Go change because you smell like gross kids.” Tony told Peter as they got out of the elevator. He pushed Peter gently towards the stairs but Peter refused and made a beeline for the kitchen.

“I need to put the rest of my shake in the freezer first.” Tony grabbed Peter’s backpack off the floor and opened it so he could get out his English homework but he pulled out some forms that Peter didn’t tell him about.

Tony looked at the forms and saw that it was a permission slip for a trip. He quickly skimmed it over and looked up at Peter when he was coming into the kitchen. Peter paused when he saw what Tony was holding in his hand.

“What’s this, bud?” Tony asked him.

Peter eyed the papers in Tony’s hand, seeming to debate with himself if he wanted to lie or not. “Ummm… I don’t know. Maybe just… some scrapes.”

Tony sat down on the stool and put the papers on the table. “These are trip forms for a trip to a museum.”

Peter snatched the forms out of Tony’s hands. “No. I’m not going. It’s in Philadelphia.”

“That’s okay.” Tony went to run a hand down Peter’s back but Peter flinched away from him.

“No! It’s not okay because-because it’s in Philadelphia.” Peter said again but more desperately. “And-and it’s two nights. Away. I’m not going. I can’t.”

Tony didn’t get to the part where it was over night. He wasn’t so sure he liked the sounds of that either. He grabbed the permission form again and read it over. “What class is this for? You’re not taking an art class.”

“It’s for my biochemistry class. My teacher likes art and he says it’ll be a nice break from class.” Peter explained to Tony and then stood up to grab his shake out of the freezer.

“What? Your teacher wants a break from teaching Biochemistry? In biochemistry class?” Tony couldn’t believe this. There had to be something more to this than that.

Peter shrugged. “Yeah. That’s what he said. And we’re joining with the um, I think the grade twelve Biochemistry class as well.”

“What? That doesn’t make any sense.” Tony didn’t know what was happening. Why was his son's biochemistry class going to Philadelphia with the grade twelve class? Makes no sense.

“Yeah. I agree. So I shouldn’t go.” Peter jumped onto the stool next to Tony and sucked on the straw.

Tony stared at Peter. He could tell when Peter was lying since his son was a horrible liar and he knew Peter wasn’t lying but it still seemed that way.

“I’m gonna call your school tomorrow and find out because this is crazy.” Tony slid the permission form over to the side of the kitchen island.

“No. I can’t go anyways because it’s too expensive-” Peter cut himself off, remembering who his dad was.

Tony chuckled. “How much is a lot of money to you?”

Peter shrugged. May used to always be about $100 short for rent money most months so that would always put a lot of stress on her. “Maybe a hundred dollars.”

Tony shook his head in awe. His kid was too pure for this world. “You think so?”

Peter thought a little bit more and then nodded. “Yeah. Or maybe twenty dollars.”

“Oh. We’re getting even lower now.” Tony said, playfully.

“Yeah. Once I went out with Ned and I accidentally lost twenty dollars and May made me feel super bad about it and I was crying so hard but she didn’t care.” Peter frowned at the memory. He didn’t like to think about the bad times he’s had with May but sometimes he would. He would never forget how hard he cried and how horrible he felt after but he couldn’t do anything about it.

Tony felt his heart break. No matter what kind of money struggles that May used to have, she should have never gotten mad at Peter for that.

“Aw, Petey. I’m sorry. I would never yell at you for something that was an accident like that. Okay, baby?” Tony wrapped his arm around Peter, pulling him against his side which automatically made Peter try to sit on his lap.

“I know.” Peter knew Tony would never do that to him. He tried to climb onto his dad’s lap but Tony didn’t let him.

“No cuddles until after. I have to make a quick call, okay? I’ll be right back.” Tony told Peter and went to stand up but stopped when Peter stuck out his bottom lip in a pout.

“Stay.” Peter begged weakly.

“I’ll be back and then cuddles.” Tony said and ruffled his kids hair then left. He needed to make a quick call but in private so he went into his office.

Peter patiently waited for Tony to come back and when he did, he held his arms out for his dad. “Cuddles now.”

Tony hugged Peter but didn’t pick him up. “Cuddles before bed. Want to help me make dinner?”

Peter stuck out his bottom lip. “No. Now.”

“Oh yeah, did you end up asking your biochemistry teacher when your assignment is due?” Tony asked Peter before he forgot again.

“Oh. I forgot. And I can’t ask him tomorrow because I’m staying with you all day.” Peter grinned. “It’s another Daddy and Peter day.”

Tony smiled. “Yeah, bud. Although more like daddy, Peter and others. I'm taking you to work with me, remember?”

Peter smiled back at his dad. “Yeah. Still fun, daddo.”

Later that night, after they made dinner together and watched some of Peter’s cartoon, they were both heading up to bed.

Because of what happened yesterday with Tony having to leave for the mission and Peter being a bit more clingier, if that was even possible, Tony decided that Peter would sleep with him in his bed for the night.

Peter jumped onto the bed and pulled the blankets down but Tony pulled him by his ankles. “Go shower first and brush your teeth.”

Peter tried to crawl away from Tony and Tony knew that he was only doing that to play around but he didn’t want to get Peter wired up before bed so Tony let go of his ankle and walked into the bathroom to turn the shower on.

“It’s ready when you are, Pete. Want me to get your pyjamas or do you want to pick them out?” Tony asked as he turned the bathroom fan on and grabbed a towel.

Peter walked into the bathroom and Tony mentally fist bumped himself because he didn’t have to argue with Peter to go in the shower.

“You get them.” Peter told Tony then started taking off his clothes after Tony left the bathroom.

Peter had a quick shower, not bothering to wash his hair since he didn’t want to go to sleep with wet hair. He finished up in the shower and dried off then changed into his pyjamas that Tony left on the counter for him.

After he brushed his teeth, he walked out of the bathroom and jumped on the bed, grabbing onto Tony’s arm. “Time to sleep.”

“Give me a sec, I have to go shower now.” Tony pushed Peter on the pillow and pulled the blankets over him.

“No. Do it tomorrow-”

Peter cut himself off because Tony turned the tv on so he was intrigued. Tony smiled at him even though Peter lost interest in him then he left to go get ready for bed himself.

When he returned, there was a few minutes left of the show and Tony knew that he couldn’t turn it off now unless he wanted all hell to break loose so he got into bed and laid down.

Peter had his arms above his head and was twirling one of his curls around his finger. Tony noticed that he did that when he was really content.

He waited for the episode to end then he quickly grabbed the remote and shut the tv off before Peter had the chance to say anything.

Tony turned the lamp off and turned to face Peter who had turned over so he was turned away from Tony but pressed his back up against his dad's chest.

“Sleep good, Pete. Remember we still have to wake up early tomorrow.” Tony rubbed his back and leaned forward to press a kiss to the top of Peter’s head.

Peter mumbled something incoherent and then he was drifting off. Tony fell asleep shortly after that too, grateful that he got to spend all day with Peter tomorrow.

A few hours later, Peter was waking up because he had kicked all the blankets off of him during his sleep and he was cold.

He sat up in bed and reached for the blankets at the bottom of the bed but he couldn’t find them so he fumbled around with them for a few seconds before finally deciding to open his eyes to see where the blankets were.

Peter tugged them up on him again and looked over at his dad who was sleeping with his back to him. The blankets were thrown off of him as well so Peter grabbed them and tried to cover his dad with them so he would be warm as well but he couldn’t get his arms to work properly.

He groaned in annoyance and tapped his dad’s arm. “Dad, I-”

Peter pulled his hand quickly against his chest out of shock. Tony was freezing. His skin felt like ice to the touch.

Peter grabbed onto his dad’s arm and pulled him so he rolled onto his back but Tony’s head rolled back. “Dad?”

Peter shook his dad to try and get him to wake up. “Dad?! Wake up! Why aren’t you waking up?! Dad!”

Peter started to shake his dad aggressively. His heart was pounding in his chest and he felt like he couldn’t breathe.

“Dad. Please.” Peter cried out and felt his cheeks soaking now.

He smacked his dad in the chest weakly and cried over him. “Wake up.” He weakly pleaded.

“Peter,” FRIDAY said, causing Peter to still. “your dad has been dead for an hour now. He had a heart attack.”

Peter felt all the life get sucked out of him. “Wha-”

“You have been sleeping with his body for the last hour and you didn’t do anything.” FRIDAY sounded disappointed in Peter. Peter let out a loud sob and shook his head in denial.

“No. I’m awake now. Tell him to wake up. FRIDAY. Call-call for help. Please!” Peter begged but FRIDAY was silent after that. He moved closer to his dad and tried to cuddle against his side to feel safe but Tony’s body was cold.

Peter cried messy and loud tears but it was like he couldn’t even hear himself. His heart was pounding so hard, he thought he was about to join his dad.

FRIDAY spoke up again but her voice sounded different. “Why didn’t you do anything, Peter? Peter. Peter Peter Peter-”

Peter felt himself getting shaken violently.

He wanted to open his eyes but he was too scared. His dad was dead and… he could hear Tony’s voice but that didn’t make any sense.

“Peter. Wake up. You’re having a bad dream. Peter.”

Peter shook his head. A dream? But he was awake.

The hand on his was warm and Peter recognized that touch anywhere. He shot his eyes open and looked over on the bed but he didn’t find his dad's dead body, he found his dad sitting up in bed and looking at him with so much concern in his eyes.

Peter choked on a sob and managed to look down at his legs and saw that the blankets were on him still. He looked back up at Tony and reached desperately for the man.

Tony cupped Peter’s face in his hands. “It’s okay. It was just a dream.”

Peter shook his head and started coughing from how hard he was crying. He felt the spit trailing down his chin along with tears and snot but he didn’t care because a minute ago his dad was dead.

Even if it was just a nightmare.

Tony pulled away and looked at Peter. He had never seen Peter so scared after a nightmare and he’s comforted him after plenty of nightmares.

“You’re okay, Peter. Everything is okay.” Tony reassured him again but Peter was reaching desperately for him so Tony sat up a bit more on the bed and pulled Peter out of the blankets and into his arms.

He placed his hand under Peter’s butt to support him and felt that it was soaked. Yikes.

Tony let Peter’s legs hang at his sides and his head rest on his shoulder as he used his free hand to move the blankets back from where Peter was just sleeping and saw that the sheets were all wet.

Tony wasn’t even sure Peter knew what he did yet since he seemed so out of it. He can’t say that he’s surprised after knowing Peter’s history of nightmares, he’s actually surprised it hasn’t happened before.

Tony could feel the front of his shirt start to get all soaked as well but he didn’t care in that moment. He slid off the bed and stood up, feeling the back of Peter’s top to see if he needed to change that as well.

“Shh, it’s okay.” Tony hushed him since Peter was still crying into his shoulder.

“I-I, you were… I woke up and-and you were, you were dead.” Peter managed to get out and let out another round of crying.

Tony rubbed his back. “It was just a nightmare. I’m here, see. You’re not just floating in the air, are you?”

Peter shook his head into Tony’s neck and took in a shaky breath. “I just, I was scared.”

“I know, bud. But it’s okay. I’m here.” Tony continued to rub Peter’s back and rock him slightly as he grabbed fresh pyjama bottoms and a towel.

After a few minutes of Peter’s crying quieting down and his breathing starting to go back to normal, Tony was sure that Peter didn’t even know what happened so he walked into the bathroom and turned the light on, dimming it so it wasn’t blaring.

Peter lifted his head up, confused. “Back to bed.”

Tony shook his head and placed the items on the bathroom counter. “It’s okay, I know it was a scary dream and you wet the bed but it’s okay-”

Peter tried to look down and then reach down there to feel his pyjamas. “I… no. I didn’t.”

Tony set Peter on the floor. “Yeah, you did but it’s okay.”

Now that Peter was on the floor, he reached down and felt that his pyjamas were soaked. No. Nonononono. He didn’t even notice it before.

He felt his eyes burn again because he was so tired and emotional after just thinking that his dad was dead. He tried to stop the tears from falling but he couldn’t so he looked up at his dad who was starting the shower then he walked over to him and leaned his head against him.

Tony wrapped his free arm around Peter’s body after he turned the shower on. “Oh Pete. It’s okay. It was an accident, I’m not mad.”

Peter nodded. He knew that his dad wasn’t mad but he still freaking wet the bed and he had a god awful dream as well.

“Just take off your pants. You can keep your shirt on but roll it up a bit so it doesn’t get wet and wash off.” Tony told Peter and took the shower handle off so Peter could hold it.

Peter let out a whimper. “Stay here.”

“I won’t leave.” Tony reassured him but he did have to clean the bed. That was gonna be hard because he didn’t have a mattress cover.

Tony sat himself down on the bathtub step and grabbed his phone so he could look up how to clean the bed up after since it was more than just sheets.

After about five minutes, the shower was turning off. “I’m done.”

Tony put his phone away and stood up to grab the towel and then he opened it up and wrapped Peter in it even if he was wearing a shirt.

“Do you feel better?” Tony asked, rubbing his back through the towel.

“No.” Peter grumbled. He just had a dream that his dad was dead and woke up to a wet bed. He was not okay.

“Do you want to go try and sleep in your room a bit while I clean up the bed?” Tony asked him but Peter was already shaking his head.

“No. I want to stay with you. What time is it?” Peter asked and grabbed onto Tony tighter.

“Uh, it’s just past five.” Tony knew that he wasn’t going to go back to sleep since it would take him a good hour to clean the bed and he planned on getting up at 6am anyways.

“I don’t want to go back to sleep.” Peter told Tony but let out another yawn.

“How about you lie on my side of the bed while I clean up?” Tony knew that Peter would eventually fall asleep so Tony hoped that Peter would agree.

“Okay. But you have to stay here.” Peter went to climb onto the bed but Tony stopped him.

“Wait, bud. I have to take the sheets away.” Tony told him so Peter put his leg back down and waited for Tony to strip the bed, looking away from the wet patch by his side.

Peter climbed onto the bed and pulled the towel up higher so he was warmer.

Tony tossed all the dirty sheets into a pile to be washed later and waited until Peter drifted off. He knew as soon as Peter’s head hit the pillow then he would fall asleep which is exactly what happened and Tony was thankful for it.

He double checked if Peter was actually sleeping before he went to put the sheets into the washer and to go downstairs to get some baking soda and soap.

When he walked back upstairs, he forgot that he didn’t even change his shirt yet so he did that then started to clean the area, hoping that it worked because he didn’t want to get a new mattress.

He looked over at Peter who was about to roll off the bed so Tony walked over to his side and pushed him over, rolling him into his back.

He grabbed another towel from the bathroom and lifted up Peter’s legs so he could place the towel under there just in case.

Tony went back to finish cleaning up Peter’s side of the bed and just hoped that it worked. He kept glancing over at Peter to see him sleeping peacefully now. He didn’t know exactly what Peter dreamt about but something told him that it was going to make Peter extra clingy all day.

After the bed was cleaned up and it thankfully worked, Tony went into the shower and got ready for the day. He was dreading going back to work because he actually hated meetings, surprisingly or not surprisingly.

He guessed that it would be better with Peter coming so he had some company and any other kid that was going to be there although Tony doubted any other kids would be there since all the people who work with him are old.

He finished off in the bathroom and tossed his suit jacket on the bed since he didn’t want to put it on just yet. There was still five minutes until Peter had to wake up and start getting ready but Tony wanted him up now since they still had to eat breakfast and everything.

Tony sat on the edge of the bed and gently shook Peter’s body. “Hey, bud. It’s time to wake up. I know you’re still tired but just think, no school today.”

Peter groaned and rolled onto his stomach. “Mm-mm. Tired.”

“I know. You can go to bed early tonight. Up up. We have to leave in an hour.” Tony patted Peter’s back and shook him again.

Peter rolled back onto his back and opened his eyes, rubbing at them. “We goin’ to your work?”

Tony smiled. “Yeah, baby. So we gotta get dressed.”

.
.
.

After Peter was dressed and they both ate, Tony put his suit jacket on and led Peter into the elevator. It was really weird for him to be going back to a meeting after months of not going to any.

He was also amazed at how easy it was to get Peter ready. He was dressed and ready in less than ten minutes with no tears or complaints. Tony was very impressed and not looking forward to tomorrow.

“Are there going to be other kids there too?” Peter asked, tugging on his long sleeve shirt.

“No. Probably not. Mostly everyone there is old so their kids already have kids.” Tony answered him and then the doors were opening.

Tony felt like he hadn’t been on that floor in years.

The front receptionist smiled at him so Tony smiled back at the young man.

Peter ignored the man at the desk and moved closer to his dad’s side, grabbing onto his arm. “How long is the class gonna be?”

Tony laughed. “Class? You mean meeting?”

Peter blushed. “Oh. Yeah.”

“Anywhere from forty minutes to three hours.” Tony answered. He knew that Peter was going to lose focus after about thirty minutes so he didn’t plan on staying very long. He also made sure that the meeting wasn’t confidential or anything like that, just a simple, boring meeting.

Peter’s eyes went wide. “What?! Three hours? That’s crazy! That’s like two movies.”

A woman, Julie, walked up to the two of them and leaned down to be closer to Peter’s height. “Hello, sweetie. It’s so nice to finally meet you. My name is Julie and I work with your dad’s friend, Pepper.”

Peter nodded his head. “Oh. Uh, it’s nice to meet you.”

The woman stood up fully and smiled at Peter then gave a nod to Tony and left. Tony knew that Julie loved kids and that she had been asking Pepper for him to bring Peter down so she could meet him.

Tony ruffled Peter’s curls and put his arm around him, leading him down the hallway where their meeting was. Peter looked up at Tony, “Is Pepper coming today?”

Tony shook his head, sadly. “Not today. I don’t know when she plans on coming next, bud.”

“Can we go back to Miami with her soon? Like… tomorrow soon?” Peter said cheekily.

Tony reached over and pinched one of Peter’s cheeks that were still so chubby. He hoped Peter never lost his baby fat. “Oh yeah. Tomorrow? That seems like a little soon.”

Peter shrugged. “I like it there.”

“Me too, bud.” Tony answered and then pushed open the door to the meeting room.

Everyone was already sitting down and talking quietly to each other, reviewing some things but they all stopped to look at Tony and then immediately looked down at Peter.

Peter froze. He hated these situations. He has literal nightmares of these exact things happening although he’s usually naked in these dreams and he’s not naked now… no, definitely not naked.

“This is my son, Peter. Peter, everyone.” Tony introduced everyone and walked over to the front of the table.

“It’s nice to meet you, Peter. How old are you?” Danny asked.

Tony had a slight suspicion that the man was trying to subtly make fun of Peter’s young age.

Peter was immediately at Tony’s side. “Um, I’m fourteen.”

“Woah. So you’re just starting high school then? Or are you still in elementary school? It’s been so long for me.” Danny sat back in his chair and ran his eyes up and down Peter’s body.

“Um, I’m in high school now.” Peter felt like he was being judged. He moved closer to Tony’s side.

Tony pushed Peter into a chair and sat down in the one beside him, pulling the rolling chair closer to himself.

The door was being opened again and another guy, Tony couldn’t remember his name, was walking into the room followed by another little boy about ten years old.

“I’m sorry I’m late. I didn’t know it was take your kid to work day.” The man said then walked over and pushed his kid into a seat, just like Tony did to Peter only a minute prior.

“Great. Now we have two kids in the room.” One of the men grumbled.

Tony ignored him because he knew that the man was a miserable old bat who hated everything and anything that wasn’t money and power.

Peter leaned over to whisper in Tony’s ear. “When does it start?”

Tony checked his watch. “Soon. I’m not running this meeting. Thank god.”

Just then, the door was being opened and Charles was walking in. He had a stack of papers in his arms and looked up to see Peter and the other boy then rolled his eyes.

“Good god. Is that today?” The man grumbled and walked around the table. He threw his papers on the desk and looked at the other boy. “Are you in diapers?”

The boy tilted his head in confusion so the man spoke again. “Do you know how to use the bathroom on your own?”

The boy nodded his head so the man turned to Peter. “Are you in diapers?”

Peter frowned and shook his head.

“And you know how to use the bathroom by yourself?” The man asked, annoyed.

Peter nodded his head.

“Alright. So then we don’t need to pause or anything.” He clapped his hands together and pointed at Peter and the other boy. “I don’t want to see your finger in your nose, in your mouth, no touching me or coming close, I don’t want your child germs on me, okay?”

Tony leaned forward in his chair. “Relax. They’re kids, not animals.”

The man grumbled again. “At least animals don’t put everything they see in their mouths.”

“Wouldn’t be so sure about that, man. Have you ever owned a dog?” The man with the other kid said.

Charles sat down in his seat. “Fucking snot nosed kids.”

“Did you want to leave?” Tony asked, trying to get this man to shut up.

Charles looked at Tony then cleared his throat and began the meeting. Tony was already wanting this to be over but Peter was good company.

Tony wasn’t paying any attention to what anyone was saying since he didn’t care. Tony had given Peter a pen and paper at the start of the meeting to hopefully keep him still so he was enjoying looking at what Peter was drawing.

After about twenty minutes, Peter was bored with the pen and paper and started to turn on his chair which the other boy then copied up until the other boy sneezed which sent a huge piece of snot dripping out of his nose so the dad had to wipe it.

Peter stopped spinning and turned his chair so his back to everyone. “I’m bored.” He whispered.

Tony reached over and squeezed his knee. “Me too.”

“But I’m more bored. I want to go. And the fat guy looks like a Teletubby.” Peter not so subtly whispered which had Tony trying not to laugh too hard at.

“Peter. Shh.” Tony covered Peter’s mouth with his hand but then Peter licked him which he knew he should have expected.

“I need to go pee.” Peter whispered again and looked up at Tony with desperate eyes.

Tony looked up at everyone and listened in to see if they were gonna be done anytime soon which they weren’t. “Can you hold it?”

Peter shook his head. “No. I need to go poo.”

“Do you actually or are you just saying that?” Tony asked seriously since he didn’t want to prove Charles right.

“Actually. It’s gonna come out.” Peter said dramatically.

Tony rolled his eyes and spoke up. “Don’t mean to cut this so short but we gotta go.”

Everyone turned to look at them. “Stark. You can’t leave. We’re not even close to done yet.”

Tony stood up and pulled Peter to his feet. “You guys finish. Have fun.”

Tony pulled Peter into the hallway and started to lead him towards the bathroom. He was surprised that Peter lasted almost an hour without going completely bored.

“Okay, almost there.” Tony didn’t want to take Peter to the bathrooms on that floor since anyone could be in there so he planned on taking Peter up to Pepper’s bathroom which was the nearest private bathroom.

“Dad. I want to go to the bathroom. This is in the elevator.” Peter protested as he was led into the elevator.

“We are. Pepper’s floor is one floor above us.” Tony explained to Peter, not knowing how desperate he was.

The doors opened so Tony led Peter straight ahead where Pepper’s office was. He typed in the code and pushed the doors open then shoved Peter inside.

Peter looked in awe at the office. It was huge with giant bay windows looking out into the city. “Woah. Her office is so big. I want to look outside.”

Peter ran over to the giant windows, seeming to forget about his bathroom needs. He placed both hands on the window and looked down in awe. It would be the perfect place to jump off as Spider-Man.

“Pete, are you forgetting something?” Tony asked, pointing to the bathroom.

“I don’t need to go poo anymore.” Peter told him and shifted on his feet.

Tony narrowed his eyes at him. “Go to the bathroom. I’ll be here.”

Peter went into the bathroom either way while Tony sat down on the office chair and fiddled with a pen.

The door was suddenly opening, scaring the shit out of Tony but he calmed down once he saw who it was. “Hey.”

“Ahh! What the-” Pepper dropped her paper and grabbed her chest but relaxed once she saw it was only Tony. “Oh my god. You scared me, Tony.”

Pepper picked up her paper and walked over to her desk. “What are you doing here? Who told you I was coming?”

“The real question is, what are you doing here?” Tony asked and stood up to walk over and lean against the desk. “I was told you were in Malibu.”

Pepper awkwardly moved her hair out of her face. “I was. I heard it was take your kid to work day and I wanted to come and surprise you guys.”

Tony was not expecting that. “Oh. I didn’t know.”

“Yeah. I wanted to surprise you in your meeting but I went and you guys weren’t there. Not that I’m surprised.” Pepper crossed her arms and tried not to show that she found it amusing. “Where is Peter anyways?”

“He’s in the bathroom but I doubt he’s using it. He probably got distracted in there.” Tony knew almost certainly that Peter was either looking out the big window in there or he was looking at the other stuff.

“Do you guys have any other meetings today?” Pepper asked Tony and walked around to go sit at her desk.

“Uh, depends if I want to go to them or not. Peter has the attention span of a baby so I doubt we’ll be going to those again.” Tony laughed. It was funny to watch Peter in that meeting.

“I was-”

There was a bang from inside the bathroom so Tony walked over to go see what Peter was doing. “One sec, Pep.” He pushed open the bathroom door that was already half open and saw that Peter was sitting on the floor with a pile of soap bottles in front of him. “What’s goin on?”

Peter looked up at Tony with wide eyes. “It dropped.”

“Yeah, how did it drop?” Tony asked, amused. Peter was too funny sometimes.

“I wanted to open the drawer because it doesn’t slam. It just bounces back like the ones upstairs.” Peter went to go slam the drawer again but Tony put his foot there.

“No more. Clean this up and let’s go. Did you go pee?” Tony asked even as he helped Peter clean up the mess.

“No, because I wanted to see what was in here first.” Peter held onto one of the soap bottles even after Tony tried to grab it. “No. Stop. I need it.”

“You don’t need it.” Tony tried to grab the bottle from Peter again but he was holding it tightly to his chest. “Peter. Let go.”

“I need it.”

“It’s not like you ever wash your hands anyways. And there’s soap right there that you can use.” Tony let go of Peter and stared at him.

“I want this one because it has a little fish inside.” Peter carefully took the soap bottle away from his chest to show his dad.

“Oh. Okay, I’ll hold it for you while you go pee.” Tony took the bottle from Peter and stood up to leave the bathroom. He didn’t understand how Peter’s mind worked most of the time.

He walked out of the bathroom and slammed the soap onto the desk then sat down. “Peter’s souvenir. Like it?”

“That’s what you were trying to take from him?” Pepper asked and grabbed the soap bottle to look at it.

“Yeah, but Pep, you don’t understand. There’s a fish inside.” Tony joked and pointed to the tiny plastic fish inside the soap bottle.

“Oh. How could I miss that.” They both started laughing and then Peter walked out of the bathroom and grabbed the soap bottle off the desk.

Tony pulled Peter onto his lap so Peter got more comfortable and leaned his back against his dad’s chest and looked at the bottle.

“What do you want to do today now, bud?” Tony asked him.

It was only about nine in the morning so they had a full day ahead of them still.

“Um, Miami!”

“Pete’s been asking me to go back to Miami again.” Tony said and put his hands over Peter’s stomach to hold him.

“Do you miss the ocean?” Pepper asked him.

“Yeah. And the pool and the weather.” Peter shifted a bit on Tony’s lap so he could face his dad and whisper in his ear. “Ask Pepper if she wants to come with us?”

Tony smiled. He loved that Peter liked Pepper. “You ask her, bud. Don’t be shy.”

Peter moved his head so he could cuddle into his dad’s chest. “Do you want to come to Miami with us again, Pepper?”

Pepper looked up at Tony surprised but happy then looked down at Peter who was hiding his face. “Of course. I’d love to go with you guys the next time you go.”

“We’re leaving tomorrow.” Peter lied and lifted his head up fully.

“No, we’re not. You have school tomorrow, mr.” Tony poked Peter in the stomach but Peter wasn’t in the mood after he heard about school.

“No school.”

“Okay. Pep, are you coming with us or are you staying here?” Tony asked and pushed Peter off of him so he could stand up.

“I have to finish some things here. Where are you guys going?”

“I’m gonna take him down to some of the labs so he can check those out.” Tony answered and Peter started bouncing on his feet in his excitement.

“Yay! That’s gonna be so cool.” Peter said excitedly.

“Okay. You boys have fun. I’ll see you later.” Pepper waved bye to them and watched them leave.

Peter handed Tony his soap bottle. “Oh. And I get to hold it now.”

Peter bounced into the elevator. “I wanna press the button. What floor is it?”

“Floor 56.” Tony told him then the elevator was going down.

For the rest of the day, Tony showed Peter around the labs and certain rooms that Peter had never been in before. Even when he would come to the lab often and work with Tony.

It was nice for him to see Peter get so excited about everything, even if it was the simplest little thing.

They had lunch back on their floor and then went back down to more labs to check out some more stuff. It was just past seven in the evening now and so Tony and Peter walked up to Pepper’s office where she was still working.

Tony thought that she was going to eventually join them but that never happened which he was grateful for since he likes spending time with just his kid.

“So Pete and I were thinking,” Tony started as they walked into her office, “if you’d like to go out to dinner with us?”

Pepper placed some papers in a pile and stood up. “Oh. I’d love to.”

“Yay!” Peter grabbed onto Tony’s hand and the three of them headed into the elevator to head to their floor so they could change and get their coats and boots on.

Tony and Peter didn’t need to change because they were already dressed up a bit but Pepper wanted to freshen up so she went to go do that.

“I don’t want to wear my boots.” Peter told Tony and went for his shoes but Tony stopped him. “No.”

“Peter, it’s snowing out and it’s cold. Put your boots on.” Tony grabbed his winter boots and dropped them in front of Peter then grabbed his jacket to put on.

“Shoes.” Peter tried to reach for his shoes again so Tony stood by them so Peter couldn’t get to them. “Dad. Get out of my way.”

Tony ignored him and then Pepper was walking down the stairs dressed in some black pants and a white coat. “You look nice.”

“Thanks. Are we ready to go?” Pepper looked down at Peter who was still trying to get to the shoes. “I guess not.”

Tony rolled his eyes. “Peter. Stop it. You have your boots here.”

Peter looked up at Tony and then put his boots on since he knew he wasn’t going to lose that fight. After they were ready to go, they headed down to the car and it was Peppers first time in the new suv.

“Woah. It’s nice. I’ve never seen you drive something other than a car before.” Pepper walked around the side of the car to look at it.

“You like it? Pete loves it, right Pete?”

Peter nodded his head and opened the back door to get in.

“Yeah. It’s nice, Tony.” Pepper got into the passenger seat and looked back at Peter in the backseat. “Oh, his feet don’t even touch the ground. Move his seat up.”

“I have no seatbelt, dad.” Peter kicked the back of Tony’s seat even though he wasn’t even sitting there.

Tony walked over to Peter’s side and felt around for the seatbelt. “Maybe they forgot to put one in.” Peter said.

“They didn’t forget. Get up for a second, bud.” Peter got off the seat and moved over to the other one so Tony could lift the seat back to find the seatbelt. “There it is. You can come sit now.”

Tony slammed the seat back down and pulled the seatbelt over Peter then put the child lock on the door and shut it.

It was already dark out by the time they pulled out of the garage but since they took so long to get ready, Tony couldn’t be surprised.

It was about a twenty minute drive to the restaurant with lots of traffic so once they arrived, Peter was already trying to get out of the car before Tony even put it in park which made Tony grateful he put the lock on.

“Let me park the car first, Pete.” Tony told him.

He got out of the car and opened up Peter’s door but grabbed his hand. “Where’s Pepper gone?”

“She’s on the other side of the car.” Tony answered and walked over then saw her.

The three of them made their way to the restaurant and it thankfully wasn’t busy but was busy enough for all eyes to be on them.

“Come, Pete. You can look at the fish later.” Tony didn’t know what Peter’s recent obsession with fish was all about.

“That ones looking at me and you at the same time, dad.” Peter pointed to the fish that was different from the rest of them.

“Oh wow. I can see that. It’s cute.” Tony looked at the fish and let go of Peter, not realizing that he was still holding onto his hand. He just got so protective and paranoid with bringing his kid out in public.

“Follow me to your table please.” The man said and led the three of them through the restaurant and to their table which was in the far corner.

Tony pushed Peter into the booth and sat in after him with Pepper across from them. “It’s so dark in here. How do they see where they’re going?”

Tony shrugged off his jacket and his suit jacket. “They wear night vision goggles to see where they’re going.”

“Do they actually?”

Pepper started to silently laugh but Tony ignored her. “Yeah. They really do.”

A waitress walked up to the table and smiled at them. “Hi. My name is Patricia and I’ll be your server tonight. Can I get you any drinks to start off with?”

Tony looked at Peter who was looking at her and trying to figure out where the goggles were. Tony tried not to laugh at him.

“I’ll have a lemonade please.” Pepper said.

“Um… can I have um, a chocolate milk?” Peter asked and grabbed onto Tony’s hand to play with his watch. Tony moved his hand away because Peter was going to call his suit to him one day if he kept up that habit.

“I’ll get an iced tea please.”

The waitress left after that then Peter was tapping Tony on the arm. “Where was her night vision?”

“Oh buddy. You’re so cute. Take your coat off. You’re making me hot just by looking at you.” Tony tugged on Peter’s zipper to get him to take the coat off.

Peter took that off and then took his boots off as well so he could stand on the seat and look over the backrest that was taller than him. “Sit down, Peter. We’re in a restaurant.”

“But I want to see.” Peter pushed Tony’s hands away from him.

“There’s nothing to see. Sit.” Tony tugged on Peter's arm and then Peter dramatically plopped down in his seat.

After they ordered and the food came, Peter ate a bit but was starting to fall asleep. He took himself out of the conversation so Tony and Pepper continued to talk and glance over at him every so often.

Peter tried to stay awake but would drop his head every so often then jerk himself awake again only for it to open again a few seconds later.

Peter jerked his head awake again and gasped. “Oh no.”

“What?” Tony looked over at him alarmed.

“M’ tired.” Peter leaned his head against Tony and then lifted his head off so he could put his head on Tony’s lap.

“It’s pretty late.” Pepper checked her phone and saw that it was just past nine so Peter should have already been in bed.

“Yeah. I didn’t realize how late it was.” Tony’s hand immediately went into Peter’s hair and ran his hand through it.

The waitress walked over to their table and when her eyes landed on Peter, she cooed. “Aw. Do you want me to bring a to-go container?”

“Oh, yes please.” Tony said and made sure no one was around before he spoke.

He moved his other hand under Peter to see if he was wet again. He had no idea what he would if Peter did what he did last night right now.

“What’s wrong?” Pepper asked, alarmed.

“I’m just… I’m scared for him to fall asleep here. He uh, Pete had a nightmare last night and wet the bed so I’m just scared that he’s gonna do it again here.” Tony leaned against his arm on the table.

“Oh. Do you know what his nightmare was about?” Pepper asked sadly.

“No. Yeah, he said I died or something but I don’t know and I didn’t push him to tell me.” Tony touched Peter again to make sure since he was so scared. He last went to the bathroom about four hours ago so yikes.

“Has he ever wet the bed before? With you I mean?” Pepper asked, curiously but Tony was sure he already told her. He couldn’t remember.

“Um… yeah. Once, kinda, but he woke himself up. It wasn’t like last night.” Tony sighed and lifted his hand out of Peter’s hair so he didn’t get him too relaxed.

He wasn’t sure if last night would happen again but if it did, he would much rather be at home.

The waitress came back to hand them Peter’s takeaway container and the bill so Tony paid while Pepper put the leftover food into the container.

“Alright. I’m gonna carry him to the car so I just need to get him off of me.” Tony gently lifted Peter’s head off of his lap and slid out from the booth.

He put his jackets back on and grabbed Peter’s boots from under the table. “Can you carry these, Pep?”

“Yeah. Do you need help with him?” She asked.

“Nope. I do this like every night.” Tony told her but before he managed to lift Peter up, Peter was already waking up and lifting his head up to look at Tony.

“Mm. Dad.” Peter sat up on his knees and lifted his arms up to Tony so Tony picked him up and held him with one arm under his butt.

Peter wrapped his arms around Tony’s neck and rested his head on his shoulder, falling back asleep.

Tony used his free arm to grab Peter’s jacket and try to cover Peter with it. The two of them walked out of the restaurant, ignoring the eyes that were on them.

Pepper opened the door and they were immediately hit with a cold gust of wind. Tony held Peter closer to himself, knowing that Peter got cold really easily.

Peter whimpered against him so Tony hoped that Peter fell back asleep so he didn’t have to deal with him being cranky before they got to the tower.

They got to the car so Tony opened up the back door and placed Peter in his seat, putting the seatbelt on for him. Peter's head fell against his chest so Tony tried to put it in a more comfortable position but his head fell back so Tony left it.

He quickly got into the driver's seat and turned the heat on. “It’s freezing. Woah.”

“I know. Do you think his head is fine like that?” Pepper asked, looking back at Peter’s position.

“Yeah. I’ve seen him sleep in weirder positions.” Tony reassured her.

Once they got home, it was the same thing, Tony took Peter out of the car and carried him upstairs after saying goodnight to Pepper.

He laid Peter on the bed and debated if he should wake Peter up to change and shower but that would just defeat him having to carry his kid home.

He just undid Peter jeans and pulled them off of him but left everything else on since it was soft and comfortable.

Tony calculated how many hours until he had to wake Peter up again for school the next day.
