haerin had always been afraid of crows, ever since she was a child. she couldn’t quite explain why, but something about them always made her feel uneasy. so when she found herself surrounded by a group of crows one day, her heart raced and her palms began to sweat. she was about to turn and run when a hand reached out and grabbed hers, pulling her away from the birds.
“you’re safe now,” the voice said.
haerin turned to see minji— a senior from her high school who was in the same club as her. they weren’t particularly close, but they had spoken a few times before.
“thank you, i thought i was a goner for a second,” haerin said, still trying to catch her breath.
minji chuckled, “i didn’t know you were afraid of crows.”
“yeah, they’re like my biggest enemy,” haerin jokes, embarrassed that the older girl had witnessed her fear. “but how can i repay you?”
“how about a date?”
her eyes widened in surprise. did she hear that right? a date with minji? it wasn’t that she didn’t find the older girl attractive— in fact, she thought the minji was quite cute. but they were hardly even friends. still, the idea wasn’t completely off the table.
“i’m just kidding,” minji said, a grin spreading across her face. ”how about you owe me a coffee?”
“sure, do you want it right now?” haerin asked, feeling relieved.
“anytime. i’ll give you my number later,” minji said. her phone suddenly rang in which she pulled out her phone and apologized, “i’ve got to go. let’s meet later.”
“what about the flavor—”
“anything’s fine!” the latter shouted before running away.
and with that, she was gone, leaving the younger girl standing alone with a million thoughts racing through her head. she couldn’t help but find her a bit weird ( and cute ), even if it had left her a little flustered.
