A Daddy Snake and his Baby Raccoon
To say that Deceit knew this wasn't going to be easy would be an understatement. Out of all the sides he knew accepting Remus as his little boy would be harder than when Patton introduced regression to Virgil and then Logan. Of course Remus took the idea of regression quite swimmingly. He liked the idea that he could do whatever he wanted and no one could get mad because he was just a little boy. But, this was not the case. Remus was always childish so getting him into a little headspace was easy. Keeping him out of trouble was the hard part. He got into anything and everything even after he kiddy proofed the house. Deceit had thought or rather hoped that getting Remus some things to play with and use would solved some of these problems. It hadn't been because he didn't think his little boy didn't deserve toys and things that would comfort him, but rather Remus hadn't bother wanting supplies yet, and he hadn't wanted to push the green side too fast.
Remus loved seeing all the boxes, he loved gifts, though he rarely got any. Deceit sat on the couch and watched as his little boy tore though the wrapping paper and boxes revealing each item. It wasn't much, he was planning on getting more, with Remus, but for now these items would be a good starter. Right away Remus loved the sparkly green Octopus with long long tentacles and large plastic red eyes. “Thank you thank you thank you!” He squealed flailing happy, causing the stuffed animal to be swung every which way as he held it by one tentacle. He also got a giant box of crayons and a couple coloring books, some teething toys, a glittery sippy cup, and a cute green pacifier
As he scribbled red all over the coloring page to make it look like blood he happily chewed on the blue crayon. Deceit had told him to be a good boy and color while he made them a snack and he was, he was going to show his new caretaker his pretty picture full of blood and he had used the black crayon to draw cut lines on their heads and xed their eyes out. Because it was funny. He couldn't help, but think about Roman and how he colored in coloring books to help his creativity or whatever. He was much better, but he knew his stupid brother would freak out if he saw the coloring page. That only made Remus giggle grabbing a pink crayon and starting to chew on them. Crayons tasted funny, each color had a slightly different flavor. He liked it! “Remus Sanders spit that crayon out right now” Deceit said firmly he had a tray of cut up fruit with him. He started to loudly sob, he didn't like being yelled at. Sitting down the scaly side pulled him into his lap and pulled the pink crayon that was still in his mouth out. “Baby boy, we don't eat crayons we color with them. It's not good to eat ucky crayons.” The caregiver tried his best to speak softly but firm. He didn't want to repress Remus, the other sides had done that so much to him he knew how much it hurt. Deceit didn't want to tell Remus no unless he really had to and eating nonedibles is one of the things he felt that his little boy really shouldn't be doing. Even if it wouldn't kill him, it would still give him a tummy ache and even cause him to get sick. Which would only make Remus even more upset because the green side hate throwing up. He found it funny when other people did, but he hated the feeling.
After a couple days he was starting to notice how rough Remus played with his stuffed octopus, he only had it for 2 days and a half and one of it's tentacles were already had a tear that was starting to reveal it's stuffing. Remus didn't seem to notice. Deceit had been doing his work while Remus was meant to be quietly playing, they were in the same room so he couldn't get into too much trouble. Or at least that's what the scaly side thought until he looked up from his notes and saw Remus with a knife, how he had no clue because he had LOCKED up all the knifes. He was cutting into his stuffed animal as well “You are too little to use knifes young man! You know this” He scolded quickly summoning the knife away form his little. “Buh I's pwaying uppahation dada” Remus said playing innocent as if he hadn't broke one of their biggest rules, no sharp objects. Right now he rarely called him any form of parental title, unless he was in trouble. Deceit wasn't troubled by it, they were still very new, even he knew it took Patton weeks before Logan would call him papa while he was little and the light blue side was known for being the dad side.
Sitting Remus down he picked up the cut into octopus. “Do you think Kitty-” Deceit had partly named the octopus, Remus had wanted to name it pussy, but he got the little boy to agree that Kitty was a better name for it. “Kitty Smellybums” The green side interrupted, ah yes the octopus' full name, one that Deceit would never use, no matter how much his little boy would correct him. “like being cut open?” He asked “I duh care” Remus shrugged. “Don't you think if you got a boo boo that Kitty would care” That just got a nod “And why do you think he would care?” the scaly side asked, helping walk his adopted son though the thought process. “Cause I his best fwiend” Deceit nodded pleased with how Remus sounded like he was starting to feel bad “Do you think it was nice to hurt Kitty and make him cry” That made him cross his arms. “His no cwying he got no tears” Remus tried to argue. “Kitty cries on the inside because he can't on the outside. He can't show people his feelings like you can. All his feelings have to stay inside he can't scream and cry and throw a fit, because he has to bottle his feelings up.” Remus started to tear up. “I sowwy Kitty” He sobbed hugging the stuffed animal causing more cotton to fall out of it. “Dada he bweeding! He dyin'! Yous goddah fix him! He's mah best fwied dada” the green side loudly cried, for the first time using his parental title without just trying to get out of trouble. “Don't worry Dada can make him all better, come with me”
They were now at the kitchen table, Deceit grabbed an empty box “Wah dah?” the green side asked sniffling “It's a magic box that will have all the supplies we need for the surgery” Deceit explained, he knew as creativity and just a little boy, that putting on the show would help make his baby boy understand not to do it again. If he took fixing the toy serious than maybe the green side would take not breaking his toys more serious. “Okay put our patient on the table” Remus nervously did as he was told “He gonna be okay Dada?” He asked sniffling. “He just need a little surgery baby boy. First we have to give him the magic potion to help him feel no pain and feel all silly in the head so it won't be too scary. Can you hand me it” Remus put his hand in the empty box “It's nah dere” He started to sniffle, ready to burst into tears. “It's a magical box sweetie, all you need to do is think about the magical potion” With a little nod, the little tried again and this time it worked “I did it!” HE said proudly handing it to his daddy. “Good job! Now we apply it on very carefully. We only need only tiny drop, we can give Kitty too much. Or he might feel silly in the head forevers” Deceit said making sure to sound very “serious” any adult would see he wasn't, but for Remus he was being the most serious ever! “Now he's lost a lot of stuffing, that's like Kitty's blood. So we are gonna need to give him a stuffing transfusion.” He informed his “nurse” summoning a note pad he hummed “It says the patient is C+ we need a bag of Cotton right away Nurse Re” Going though the box Remus pulled out a bag of cotton, with a + sign on the bag. “Wah dah C+ meen dada?” He asked as Deceit put the cotton into the stuffed octopus “Extra fluffy cotton, because he's extra cuddly” It was kind of nice playing along with Remus, even if it was something to teach him not to do.
Personally he felt that Remus wouldn't learn nearly as well by telling him no, don't do this. You can't just tell Remus no, it would make him want to do it more. His theory was making him understand though performances of imagination would work. Sadly he couldn't do that for everything “I have to get these two items because you have to wear gloves to use these, so no icky germs cause a infection” The snake side explained in reality he just didn't want Remus summoning needles. He pulled out a needle and black thread already attached. “Now we have to give Kitty his stitches, may you hold one of his tentacles to make sure our patient keeps calm?” With a nervous nod Remus grabbed one of the tentacles. First he stitched up the small tear. The green side watched with batted breath as he stitched the main “wound” while he could make it so you couldn't see the black thread at all, Deceit decided it was best to make his sewing leave a “scar” so Remus wouldn't forget. “Now we need to wrap the stitches up to make sure they stay clean” He explained with a happy nod the little pulled out bandages, Deceit carefully wrapped the octopus up before finishing it. “There we go, Now Kitty will need some time to recover and lots of cuddles as he heals up.” The snake informed the clueless little. “Sowwy Kitty I hurted you!” He hugged the octopus tightly. “Thank oo dada!”
His theory was right, it had been over a week and Remus hadn't once played mean with his stuffed animal. Though not everything could be that easy. He was having a cranky day. Deceit couldn't help but wonder if Patton had issues with his littles being cranky and what he did. Maybe he wasn't a good caretaker, no no that wasn't the case. It had to just be that he had a moody child. Remus could be happily bouncing off the walls and the next second crying about something. It was just how his baby boy was.
Deceit had read that pacifiers could help calm babies down, he knew that his Remus was 1 and a half to 2 years old most the time, it was his main age range. His little had loved the teething toys and almost always had one in his mouth, (though that didn't always stop him from trying to eat something inedible) “Rere do you want your paci?” He asked keeping his tone sweet. “No it's doopid and bowing! Doopid dada!” Remus snapped, angrily tearing up he was having a no good terrible day! And nothing could make him feel better, not his octopus, not his dada nothing! “Come here baby boy” Deceit summoned the pacifier in his hand. “Go way dum dum doopid i'dot” His little boy babbled insults on his intelligence, it didn't bother him, he knew it was just his bad mood talking. He picked Remus up, of course he started to squirm and hit, but making extra arms appear he was able to hold him still with ease and still have a hand free to go put the pacifier in his mouth. At first he fought it, but finally Deceit managed to get the pacifier in the angry screaming crying baby's mouth. His instincts took in place and he gave it a suck.... and then another. Suddenly as he sucked on the pacifier more. “Look baby boy paci are good” Deceit said gently making the other arms disappear. “Uh huh Dada 'mart” He babbled happily behind his pacifier, a big silly smile peaked out.
Sure Remus wasn't the easiest little boy, but Deceit wouldn't trade him for the world.
