real sweet (but i wish you were sober)

Wednesday wasn't exactly sure when she'd become "one of the boys" (as Kent put it; though, personally, she was not too fond of that statement), but she had, and...though she would never admit it, she did love her boys. Ajax, Xavier and Kent were some of her best friends, even though they had one functioning braincell between them.

(That braincell being Wednesday.)

So, when Ajax invited her to his dorm to watch horror movies with him, Xavier and Kent, she reluctantly accepted it.

(Only because she knew Enid had a girl's night planned with Yoko, Thing, Bianca and Divina so she wouldn't be upset by her absence.)

And boy, she did not expect the night that was to come.

Enid couldn't recall the last time she'd seen Wednesday use the phone Xavier gifted her since their return to Nevermore. She used it non-stop to communicate with Enid during the break (she was reluctant at first, but soon realized she genuinely could not read Enid's handwriting, so she put a stop to the letters), but considering they were back to living together, Wednesday never found a use for it.

So, when Enid's scrolling on TikTok was disturbed at 1:20am by the contact "My sociopath <3" calling her, it was safe to say, she was a little confused.

The blonde was quick to answer the phone, earning an eyebrow raise from Yoko, immediately bringing it to her ear to not wake Bianca or Divina. "Wednesday?" she whispered, earning an even bigger eyebrow raise from Yoko.

"Enid? Enid, il mio sole, is that you?"

Enid's eyebrows furrowed deeply at the clear distress in Wednesday's tone (and at the randomly thrown-in Italian), and sat up straight. "Yeah. Yeah, Wens, it's me. You okay? You sound kinda..."

"Distressed? Panicked? Paranoid? Confused? Delirious? Because I'll have you know, Sinclair, all of those boxes are already being ticked off one by one."

Now Enid was really confused, waving Yoko over and putting the phone on loud speaker, no longer caring whether or not she awoke Divina or Bianca. It was only 1am, they'd live.

Wednesday seemed to be...laughing down the phone. Okay, now Enid was worried. "Enid, Enid, Enid...I have no clue what on Earth is happening to me. It feels torturous. Whether the good kind or the bad kind I'm not so sure of yet."

Yoko chimed in, now looking fairly concerned herself. She was, like, 99% sure that was the first time she'd heard Wednesday laugh. "Addams? Dude, you good? Seem a little...uh...spacey."

"Spacey?" Wednesday borderline giggled. "What even is space? Have you ever thought about that, Enid? Have you? I mean, space is completely insane, right? I mean, the world seems so big, but in reality it is just a tiny rock in a series of even tinier and bigger rocks! Is that not just insane to you? So much to discover! So much we don't know - "

Enid cut her off, the girl's rambling becoming too much. Even for her, and that was saying something. "Okay, Wednesday, with the most upmost respect possible, and please do not kill me for saying this, but I'm gonna need you to shut up for a sec. Where are you? Our dorm?"

Wednesday laughed...again. She was starting to get seriously creepy. "Oh, Enid, I would never kill you! Or any of our friends, for that matter. It is simply empty threats. I mean, I'm 5'1, I have to insert fear somehow - "

"Wednesday!" The blonde yelled, earning a small groan from Divina. "Location. Now."

"Oh, right, yes. Ajax's dorm. I'm currently with him, Xavier and Kent. They were...𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘵, as Ajax said."

Enid and Yoko turned to each other in sync, their expressions both equally horrified. Ajax's dorm...whiting out...

Wednesday Addams was fucking stoned.

"Okay, okay, Wens, me, Yoko, Bianca and Divina are coming to get you now, okay? Just stay where you are and don't do anything stupid." Enid ordered her best friend, already turning around to wake up Divina and Bianca.

Usually she'd leave them to sleep, but a drugged up Wednesday Addams was not a one-man (or two-man) mission. It required an army, most likely, but right now she only had two sirens and a vampire, so she'd have to work with that.

The goth hummed down the phone. "Okay, okay...bring food though. I'm starving."

Yoko stiffled a chuckle, the sight of thee Wednesday Addams having munchies engraving itself into her mind. Enid shoved her elbow into the vampire's ribs, death glaring her.

"Okay, Wednesday." The werewolf sighed, holding back her own laugh. "I will bring food. Bye now."

The blonde hung up before Wednesday could go on another five-minute rant about the history of how food was invented or some other bullshit, rolling Bianca over and shaking her shoulders while Yoko dealt with her girlfriend.

"Sinclair," Bianca seethed, eyes still closed. "I swear to God, if your reason for waking me up isn't because Crackstone himself arised from the fucking dead again, so help me Poseiden, I will - "

"Wednesday's high." Enid deadpanned, and Bianca's eyes shot open, her jaw reaching the floor. "Yup. She's in Ajax's dorm with the boys, and she's apparently feeling distressed, panicked, paranoid, confused, and delirious. So, up-up, up and away, we have to deal with my stabby best friend who is probably feeling even more stabby than usual right now."

Divina had been listening in, already getting her shoes on, and Bianca quickly got out of the bed; not because she cared about Wednesday's whisk bowl of emotions, the girl had been stabbed and shot in the same night and lived, a little weed would do her good to be honest, but because Wednesday Addams being high was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. A once-in-a-lifetime experience she was not going to miss, even if it meant losing a bit of beauty sleep.

With a heavy sigh, Enid walked over to Yoko's door with Thing on her shoulder and yanked it open.

"I swear to God, I'm gonna kill Ajax."

The girls (and Thing) made it to Ajax's dorm in under two minutes, Enid not even bothering to knock before walking in. She knew Ajax slept with his door unlocked from when they were together, so she didn't need to worry about that.

She walked into a much-paler-than-usual Wednesday pacing up and down the floors of Ajax's room, her hair down and her fingers combing through it.

Divina's eyes went straight to Yoko, who looked equally as confused. "Is she...is she wearing her hair down?"

"I believe so, yes." Yoko nodded, eyes never leaving Wednesday. "...This has gotta be really bad."

Wednesday didn't even take note of their sudden appearance, which was unusual, because the goth usually noticed every little movement; going so far as to know when Divina would have an asthma attack coming based on the way she breathed hours before.

Enid stood there for a moment, waiting for Wednesday to notice her, but she never did. "Wednesday?" she whispered, causing the dark-haired girl to turn to her so quick she nearly got whiplash.

Her gaze softened almost immediately, the fear in her eyes draining shortly after. "Enid. Hi! How are you? Hi, Divina, long time no see! Bianca and Yoko, I hope you both fall in a ditch."

Bianca simply scoffed, and Yoko held her hand over her mouth to stop herself from absolutely howling out with laughter, earning a light slap on the stomach from Divina.

The werewolf walked over to her best friend, removing her hands from her mouth when she noticed her incessantly biting her nails, grimacing at the sight. "Oh shit-Wens, your-your nails are bleeding."

Not only that, but her hands were shaking too. To be fair, it was absolutely freezing in Ajax's dorm and Wednesday was only in an oversized hoodie and shorts.

"Bleeding? Blood?" Wednesday's eyes were furrowed as she looked down, instantly snapping her hands away from Enid's when she saw the sticky red coating her fingers. "Sorry! Enid, I'm sorry! I-I know you hate blood! Sorry, so sorry-"

"Wens," Enid said calmly, placing her hands on her shoulders. "Breathe. Stop rambling, please. You need to calm down for me, okay?"

"Sorry."

"Stop saying sorry."

"Sorr-" Wednesday went to say again, but quickly bit her tongue (literally, she felt herself draw blood) and nodded.

Bianca then stepped in, keeping a safe distance from Wednesday for her own safety. Wednesday was quick enough to pull out knives from anywhere when she was sober, fuck knows what she could do whilst intoxicated. "Wednesday. I need you to listen to me and listen carefully - "

"Are you siren songing me right now?"

Bianca flinched at the accusation, and Wednesday's face softened, soon realizing that was an insensitive joke to say. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean that, that was insensetive."

The dark-skinned girl shook her head, she couldn't exactly be mad at the girl while she was out of it. "No, it's okay, I understand that you're paranoid and don't wanna trust me - "

"I do trust you." Wednesday cut her off, earning something of a suspicious look from the siren. "Bianca. I trust you. Carry on with what you were saying."

Enid, Yoko, Divina and Thing (even though he didn't technically have a face) shared an equally worried expression. Wednesday? Being nice to Bianca? Either the world was coming to an end, or Wednesday was seriously out of it.

"Okay, so," Bianca continued, ignoring the growing warmth in her chest from her frenemies' affirmation of trust. "Did you smoke anything while Ajax, Xavier and Kent were awake?"

In all honesty, Enid had completely forgot about the boys, being soley focused on Wednesday, and hadn't even noticed them sleeping together in one bed, all spooning like little girls. Had the circumstance been different, she'd have immediately taken a photo. (Luckily for her, Yoko did not care for circumstance, and did it for her.)

Wednesday shook her head. "No. I don't smoke."

Everyone tilted their head at that. If Wednesday hadn't smoked then-

...Oh, for fuck's sake.

"Wednesday," Yoko spoke slowly. "Did you eat anything while they were awake?"

"Oh, yeah, plenty." Wednesday shrugged. "Ajax had dark chocolate cookies, which are like the only snack I like, so I ate most of them. And then the distress came. And the paranoia. And the confusion. And the inability to stop talking-"

Enid stormed past Wednesday, pushing the still-asleep Ajax until he awoke. "Ajax!" she snapped, causing the gorgon to awake with a groggly 'what?'.

"What? What do you mean what?" The werewolf seethed, shoving the boy once again. "Dude, what the fuck did you give to Wednesday?!"

Ajax looked as confused as the rest of them before realization dawned over him, his eyes widening in a mixture of fear and regret. "Oh shit, 'Nid, I completely forgot! Like, for real! I made some dark chocolate cookies with weed like three days ago cause I didn't have any milk chocolate, and I gave it to Wednesday earlier because I knew she liked them!" he explained, making Enid kinda wanna punch him. She loved him and all, but Christ, was he an idiot. "Actually...was it weed or shrooms..."

Enid's eyes widened in rage, pushing the boy so hard he fell off the bed, awakening Xavier and Kent. It was like dominos, Enid and her chain of anger was waking everyone up one by one. "Shrooms?! Are you freaking kidding me?!"

The gorgon held his hands up in defense. "I'm like 80% sure it's just weed!" his eyes wandered off again as he hopped back on his train of thought. "Actually, it might be both..." he saw Enid go for another shove, and he scurried backwards into Wednesday's ankles. "No, no, no! Just weed! It was just weed!"

Enid ran a hand through her hair when she saw Wednesday staring off into space, her foot bouncing anxiously and her hand back in her mouth. "Wens, c'mon, nails, you're gonna hurt yourself!"

"Sorry-" Wednesday stopped when she saw Enid tilt her head.

The blonde walked over to her best friend, and examined her carefully. "Can you walk?"

Wednesday nodded. "Yes, I'm not an infant."

"In a straight line?"

Wednesday placed one foot in front of her, watching it sway awkwardly. She pouted and looked down. "...no."

Enid felt her heart squeeze at the sight of the goth's pout, taking ahold of her hand and lacing her fingers with hers. "Cmon, Addams, I'm taking you back to our room."

She heard Ajax let out a sigh of relief, causing her to whip around and look at him with squinted eyes. "I'll deal with you later."

Wednesday giggled like a child, leaning her head on Enid's shoulder and letting her walk her back to the dorm, not even bothering to say bye to the rest.

Boy, they were in for a long night.

Once they returned to the dorm, Thing had scurried off to Enid's pile of stuffed animals to go to sleep, and Wednesday immediately flopped down onto Enid's bed, cuddling into her pillow with a soft smile of content.

Enid smiled at the sight, but felt a slight sting in her chest. Would Wednesday go back to acting like she didn't care about her when she was sober?

The werewolf took a seat beside the goth, knees up to her chest and her chin resting on them. She looked down at her best friend, who was staring at her with maybe the most love-filled eyes she'd ever seen.

"You're so pretty, Enid." she whispered like it was a secret, causing the blonde's heart to skip a beat.

Enid laughed awkwardly, looking away from Wednesday so she couldn't see the blush overtaking her cheeks. "I'm so not!"

She said it as though it was a joke, but stoned out of her mind or not, Wednesday could see it wasn't, and her face sunk. "Yes, you are." she said adamantly.

She laced her arms around Enid's waist, burying her face into her stomach. A part of Enid wanted to push her off, knowing that when Wednesday woke up sober she would not be happy about this. But she also knew that if she did, high Wednesday would probably get all pouty and sad. So she just wrapped her arms around her shoulders, resting her cheek on the top of her head.

"My pretty girl."

Enid could have squealed. Her face was now burning red and her heart was pounding, but she said nothing, not wanting to initate anything even slightly romantic with Wednesday right now...

Wait.

Was that what this was? Romantic?

Or was Wednesday just super stoned and confused about the things you should and shouldn't say in a strictly platonic friendship?

Her train of thought was cut off when she heard a small whimper come from Wednesday, making the blonde look down at her with a worried expression. "Wens? Wens, you okay?"

"I'm sorry, Enid." the goth mumbled, her voice wavering enough that it was clear she was crying.

Enid's eyes widened. In the year she'd known Wednesday, she'd never seen or heard the girl cry, not once. Not even after the Battle of Crackstone. "For what?" she whispered softly, running her fingers through Wednesday's smooth hair.

Wednesday let out a small cry. "For everything. For tricking you into going into the Gates mansion, for putting you in danger with Tyler, for being so cruel all the time, for never showing even an ounce of affection towards you. I'm sorry, Enid. I am so sorry."

Enid felt her heart break in her chest at Wednesday's apology. "Wens," she cooed, cupping the shorter girl's cheek so she'd look at her. Her baby hairs were messy and her mascara was smudged (God, Wednesday still looked beautiful when she was crying). "None of that's your fault..." she paused, and squinted her eyes. "Well, the mansion thing maybe, but I already forgave you for that. You're not the reason I was in danger with Tyler, I chose to do that. I had a choice to save my friends and to save you, or to run and hide, and I chose to save you. That was my choice. I don't blame you for that. Don't you ever blame yourself for that."

Wednesday was full blown sobbing now. "But I do. do blame myself. You-you were so scared, Enid, and you-you nearly died! You were scarred; literally! All because I let some simpleton manipulate me!"

"Hey, hey, no..." Enid cooed, trying to stop the goth from crying. Both her hands were cupping her face now, her thumbs rubbing her hair. "Wednesday, I wasn't...I wasn't afraid I was gonna die. I was afraid of losing you...And as for my scars? I'd do it all over again if it meant you'd be okay. You're my best friend, Wednesday, please don't you ever blame yourself for the choice made, okay?"

The Addams sniffled, nodding. "Okay." she croaked out.

"Okay?"

She nodded again. "Okay..."

Wednesday rested her head on Enid's chest, closing her eyes and feeling herself become calmer and more sleepy at the sound of the werewolf's very-much beating heart. Knowing that her Enid was okay and safe, it...it brought her comfort, a comfort that she'd never known she had before this moment.

Enid felt the same, seeing Wednesday so relaxed with her eyes closed and jaw unclenched, it made her feel at peace.

Moments passed, and Wednesday could soon hear Enid's breathing become slower and more calm, causing a soft smile to grace her lips. She opened her eyes and analyzed every feauture of her best friend's face, feeling herself fall into a state of absolute awe.

"I love you, Enid Sinclair." she whispered softly, so that no one aside from them, supernatural hearing or not, could hear. "So, so much."

Enid smiled softly, placing her hand in Wednesday's.

"I love you, too, Wednesday Addams. More than you'll ever know."

It was safe to say Ajax woke up to a bed full of scorpions, and a sincere apology from Enid for her girlfriend's behaviour.
