They finally did it, they defeated Belos and calmed The Collector down. It was nice, but Luz knew she had to leave before she could change her mind. She knew that it was for the best to leave, after all, she made the day of unity happen. She had no right to stay.
Luz gathered everyone together to tell them about her choice. She felt bad because they all looked so happy they were finally together again with their families, except for Hunter, he has always been with the Noceda family. She was ready to leave, so she let out a cough, catching everyone's attention. They all faced her, and she said, “I know we are all glad to finally stop Belos and the collector, but I have to tell you guys something important.” She let out a sigh and continued as she started to fidget with her fingers, “I’ve decided that I will be staying in the human realm… forever.” This made everyone gasp at that, and Willow and Gus ran up to her and pulled her into a hug. They wouldn’t let her go. She tried to wiggle out a bit, but it just made them hug tighter. “Why?” Willow asks Luz who wheezed and said “because I think it's for the best, I've made too many mistakes and I have to make sure I can’t do it again.” Willow frowned at that, “Luz, we know you didn’t do it on purpose. It was an accident you don’t have to kee-” Luz gritted her teeth, “stop! It is my fault, I should’ve known. You guys cannot change my decision, you can only accept it.” Willow pulled away with a face of hurt while Gus still held onto Luz tightly, but Willow pulled him off and dragged him away while he cried.
Amity was still standing there in shock. She thought Luz would stay, and they would have a family and get married. But no, Luz chose to stay in the human realm. “Why?” Amity asked, Luz looked at her with dull eyes, “I just told you why.” Amity wanted to know why Luz would just lead her on. “No, Luz, why would you go through all the trouble of breaking down my walls and befriending me and dating me while knowing that you would just return to the human realm forever? Was all of your love just lies?” Luz looked shocked, “No Amity, I wouldn’t do that. I do love you, bu-” Amity cut Luz off, “oh really you love me? If you loved me, you wouldn’t be leaving me right now. I fought my mom and disowned her just to be with you, but all you’ve done is run away from your problems. You smoked, drank alcohol and I kept it a secret all because I loved you, even when you lied to me, I stayed patient and communicated, but you never did. I guess it was never enough, you’ll never really love me.” Luz started to tear up, “Amity, I do love you. The reason I lied to you is, so you didn’t worry, and I smoked and drank alcohol because it numbed the pain.” Amity scoffed, “No Luz, you already made your choice. We are over, this will make it easier for you to leave me. That's what you wanted, right?.” Amity turned around to leave, Luz wanted to chase her, but her mom stopped her and shook her head at Luz, “It’s time to go before the portal closes.” Luz went up to King and Eda wanting to hug them, but when she did, they looked at her with disappointment. It broke Luz’s heart. Luz ran into the portal, she didn’t care anymore.
