Dad Might

Midoriya Izuku was nervous.

He was nervous because Father’s Day was coming up.

And he was going to make All Might a present.

Oh god. This was a terrible idea.

But he would do it.

Because…

He sighed.

Because he'd had never had another father figure.

There. He said it.

No, he didn’t.

He sighed again.

But now, he was at the store with Uraraka, Todoroki, and Iida to buy All Might a Father’s Day present.

This was a terrible idea.

“I’m going to get the BEST Father’s Day gift for Papa!” Uraraka said, pumping her fist while heading into the clearance isle.

They peered in after her before changing the subject.

“Anyway,” Iida turned, “Why are you here, Todoroki?” He shifted his hands, “I’d have thought you’d be opposed to the idea of Father’s Day shopping.”

Todoroki’s hands shifted awkwardly in his jeans, “Yeah…I’m really just here to watch.” He shrugged.

“Hm.”

“Guys, I…want to get something for All Might. Will you, um, help me pick something out?”

Todoroki squinted suspiciously.

Izuku hated being stared at, and this was no exception. It felt like he had a spotlight on him.

“…Sure.” He broke his off his intense stare, “Why no- “

“Of course!” Iida stood tall and proud. “If it’s important to you that you show your appreciation to All Might as a paternal figure, then I shall make it my duty to help you!”

Izuku smiled fondly. “Thanks, guys.”

“Can I sign it? I’ll have you know that I’m a very good artist.”

“Todoroki, no. You have a father.” Todoroki frowned slightly. Izuku sighed. “You’re right. You can hardly call him that. But no.” Todoroki huffed.

Uraraka walked up to the checkout isle holding a wood carving kit, proudly clutching it in her hands.

“Papa’s gonna love this!”, she smiled, “He’s always loved crafts and stuff!”

She gazed in Izuku’s direction before she noticed the card he was holding.

“Wait, who’s your card for?”, she asked, her eyes glittering with curiosity.

Izuku felt his face going red as he tried to stutter out a response.

“W-well, you see, i-it’s for, well, um, All Might?” He said the last part as if it were a question, hoping to *subtly* convince Uraraka that it was no big deal. Unfortunately, that didn’t…work.

“Wait, really? All Might?!” Her stance changed to that of an excited fangirl, arms out in front of her leading up to her face and knees bent as if she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “You’re really going to give that to All Might?! I mean, I knew you were close, but- “

Izuku’s face became a brilliant shade of rose red as his embarrassment welled up in his throat. He frantically tried to get her to calm down, which was only probably making this more awkward.

“U-Uraraka, be quiet, please, someone might hear you!” Izuku said, though he was partially sure that he was only saying that to save himself from dying of embarrassment.
Uraraka looked around like she’d just realized that they weren’t the only ones in the store OR in line. “Oops,” she giggled embarrassedly, “sorry.”

Though the situation was successfully de-escalated, Izuku didn’t thing he was going to be getting less red any time soon.

Now, they were out of the store after an ““incident”” with the cashier where Izuku tried to furiously explain that he’d forgotten his cash on him, Todoroki just ended up paying for it (“It’s okay, it’s my old man’s card”, he’d said as he swiped it). Izuku was convinced that he just wanted to spend some of his dad’s money.

But, at this point, they’d all went their separate ways. And now Izuku was sitting on his bed, pondering what to say when he gave the card to All Might. He’d already decorated the card with, frankly, sappy drawings that he’d rather no one ever see.

But he was giving this card to All Might.

He took a deep breath in as he practiced his lines.

“So, um, All Might…” again, he drew a shaky breath, “I, um, want to give you this.” He held up the card to no one in particular before resuming his speech. “B-because, y-you…” he swallowed an embarrassed mouthful of saliva, “Because you’re the closest thing I’ve had to a father,” he finished quickly, before feeling embarrassed for feeling embarrassed.

He sighed and got ready to meet All Might the next day.

“Ah, yes, Young Midoriya! What brings you here?” He asked when Izuku entered his office during lunch break.

Izuku clumsily took a seat on his stepstool.

“Um, well…” He clunkily stuck a hand into his gray uniform’s front pocket to take out his card, ignoring the slightly inquisitive look on All Might’s face. He held up the card. “I got you this.” He said firmly.

All Might took the card and opened it up to a caption that said ‘You’re My Hero’ as Izuku nervously waited for his response. To his surprise and relief, All Might smiled fondly.

“Well, thank you, Young Midoriya.”

Though Izuku was happy, ecstatically so, he internally cringed as he realized he prepared a speech for nothing.

He breathed a sigh of comfort.

Dad Might, He thought to himself happily.

His Dad Might.
