Meet The Parents
“I want you to meet my parents.” Leighton says suddenly, and Alicia’s brain short-circuits. It’s a perfectly normal and rational question, but Alicia is on top of a naked Leighton who was writhing beneath her just as naked body just moments before as she kissed up and down her girlfriend’s body.
“Leighton,” Alicia says, holding herself above the blonde, “I’m trying to do some of my best work here, and you’re asking me to meet your parents.”
“Well I didn’t know when else to ask!” Leighton says with a nervous smile. Alicia sighs, planting a small kiss on Leighton’s forehead and laying down next to her.
“Well, we’ve been together for a while. I guess it’s about time.” Alicia says.
“And I’ve already met your parents.” Leighton adds, and Alicia nods. Leighton had gotten along with Alicia’s parents really well! They had gone to Alicia’s childhood home and had dinner together, and it had been fun!
“Tatum set the bar pretty high though.” Alicia says nervously.
“Alicia, my dad may have taken the break up with Tatum hard,” Leighton says with a small laugh, “but him and my mom know that I love you and they really want to meet you!”
Alicia takes a deep breath, running her fingers through her hair in thought.
“Alright, I’m looking forward to it!”
Leighton beams and kisses all over Alicia’s face!
“Excellent!” Leighton says excitedly.
“I love you.” Alicia says with a smile.
“I love you too,” Leighton smirks, then flips herself onto Alicia and straddles her, “Now where were we?”
“Are you nervous?” Alicia asks as week later as she pours some dog food into Duke’s bowl, which he appreciates.
“Shouldn’t I be asking you that?” Leighton replies, kissing Alicia’s cheek.
“Nah, parents love me!” Alicia smirks. She takes in her girlfriend’s appearance. Leighton is wearing a tight, spaghetti-strap, dark red and black plaid dress over a white turtleneck sweater with black heeled boots.
“Like what you see?” Leighton asks with a smirk of her own.
“I do!” Alicia nods, wrapping her arms around Leighton’s waist.
“Well, you’re not so bad yourself!” Leighton smiles, Alicia is wearing slim-fit black pants, a long sleeve dark red button up shirt, and her new pair of doc martens.
“Flatterer.” Alicia says, pulling Leighton into a kiss.
“They’re going to love you,” Leighton says, pulling away, “because I love you.”
“Okay,” Leighton says as Alicia holds the restaurant door open for her, “I get my hilarious bitchiness from my mom, so prepare for that.”
“Endearing snarkiness, gotcha.” Alicia nods.
“And my dad orders his martinis in a really uncomfortable way, I promise you that it upsets everyone.”
“Weird martini order, gotcha.”
Leighton’s parents wave to them from a table once they step inside, and Leighton squeezes Alicia’s hand.
“Ready?” she asks. Alicia squeezes her hand back.’
“Ready!”
“Hi mom, hi dad!” Leighton says, slightly nervous as she and Alicia approach the table. Henry Murray jumps up excitedly and makes a bee-line for Alicia!
“Oh, Alicia! It’s so wonderful to meet you!” He says, wrapping her in a hug that makes Leighton’s jaw drop.
“Nice to meet you as well, Mr. Murray!” Alicia laughs nervously, hugging him back.
“Oh please, call me Henry!” he replies, moving to hug Leighton.
“And call me Mimi!” Leighton’s mom says, pulling Alicia into a much calmer hug of her own.
“Nice to meet you, Mimi!” Alicia replies.
After they’ve ordered and gotten their meals and engaged in a nice conversation which has mainly consisted of Henry and Mimi telling Alicia about what Leighton and Nico were like as kids, Mimi fixes her eyes on Alicia.
“So Alicia, Leighton tell us that you’re a pre-med major!” Mimi says, and Alicia nods proudly.
“Yes, I’ll be starting med school at UVM next fall!” Alicia smiles.
“Well that’s excellent!” Henry says.
Leighton is in awe of how well this is going.
“My little doctor!” Leighton says fondly, and Alicia squeezes her hand in adoration.
“Well I just want to say that you two make a gorgeous couple!” Henry says.
“You’re very lucky, Leighton!” Mimi smiles.
“I think I’m the lucky one, but we’ll call it even!” Alicia replies, and everyone laughs.
“I gotta tell you Alicia,” Henry says as he and Alicia walk a few feet behind Leighton and Mimi, “I love seeing the smile you put on my little girl’s face.”
“She deserves the world, sir. I’m just doing my best to give it to her!” Alicia replies. Henry nods, and he stops walking.
“You have my blessing, when the time comes.” Henry says. Alicia is stunned! She and Leighton have discussed their future, specifically marriage, before, but this is not what Alicia was expecting tonight.
“I-”
“I can see the way you look at Leighton, and I can see the way she looks at you.” Henry says. Alicia nods, and the two smile at each other.
“Thank you, Henry. I appreciate it.”
“Oh my god, they’re obsessed with you!” Leighton exclaims once she and Alicia get back in the car.
“I told you, parents love me!” Alicia smirks. Leighton leans over and pecks her girlfriend’s lips.
“Well, I love you too!”
As Alicia drives them home, Henry’s words echo in her head. She wants to marry Leighton, and she knows that the day will come when she drops down on one knee.
