Day 4.5
That night, Christine Everhart was back to her usual impeccable self. Her too-sweet smile was back in place, and there was no sign of the previous night’s distress in her eyes.
“Only three deaths today, folks, but they were big ones!” She announced. “Pepper Potts of District Twelve was killed by fan favorite Eric ‘Killmonger’ early this morning, only hours after the death of her ally. As we all saw, Killmonger finally tracked down his rival, T’Challa from District 10, later in the day. And what an intense battle it was! Unfortunately for T’Challa, his district partner Okoye was away from their camp when Killmonger appeared, so he was on his own. After what some have called the most exciting battle of this year’s games, both Killmonger and T’Challa perished only minutes apart from one another, both drowning as a result of their fight in a pond.
“But that’s not all! Erik Lehnsherr, our surviving tribute from District Two, was gifted a vial of poison by a very generous sponsor. He used it to good affect, killing Jane Foster of Three and greatly weakening her ally, Thor Odinson of Five. Only time will tell if he can overcome the poison’s affects, or is this the end for the gentle giant?”
She paused for a sip of water, swirled with silver as a reference to the day’s events. Then she continued with a smile.
“That leaves us with seven tributes left. And just in time; it’s time for the family interviews! We’ll start off with Jean Grey from District One…”
And so it went, the family and friends of every still-living tribute being questioned about their character, home life, and chances of survival. Jean Grey’s parents pled for their daughter to come home; Thor Odinson’s brother made some scathing remarks about his brother’s strategy (or lack thereof); Okoye’s best friend Nakia claimed that there was “no doubt” of who was going to win.
At the end of the broadcast, Christine signed off as usual. However, there was a palpable tension in the air; more than three quarters of the tributes were gone, and any day could mark the end of the games.
