A Bunch of Bull
Anne laid down on her bed, looking at her hands before she slowly pressed her fingers into her palm and shot two webs at the ceiling.
'I still don't know how this is made and I'm dreading to find out.' Anne thought.
Sprig opened the basement door.
"Anne! Come on! Hop Pop said we're going to go check out the mountain pass and see if it's melted enough to leave!" He said, excited.
"Really?!" Anne let out, feeling a spark of hope rise in her chest.
This was the perfect thing to get her mind out of her bodily changing funk.
(Line Break)
It was not melted. The mountain pass was NOT melted.
"Yeah, it was a long shot, but that ice is still going to be there for a couple weeks." Hop Pop said, rubbing his chin.
"UGH!" Anne groaned loudly, slumping in her seat on Bessie's bench. "There goes my hope."
"Don't worry, Anne, it's just a few more weeks. I'm sure it won't be that bad." Sprig said before he noticed something. "Hey, why don't we go check out that lake over there? Would that make you feel better?"
"That lake? I don't know, maybe but I don't have my swimsuit with me." Anne said, gazing at the unfamiliar lake.
"Doesn't matter, that's part of the fun!" Sprig said, running off, "Come on!"
"Oh… fine." Anne said, with a small smile.
"Bring me too! I wanna swim!" Polly said, hoping out of her bucket and into Anne's hair! "Onward!"
"Hehehehe, okay." Anne said as she got off Bessie and ran after Sprig.
"Be careful!" Hop Pop said.
(Line break)
It didn't take long for them to run back to Hop Pop, who was reading a book, and Bessie.
"Drive! Drive! I didn't realize leeches could get that big!" Anne shouted.
"This is why you shouldn't go swimming in random lakes!" Hop Pop shouted as he cracked the reigns! "Hiyah, girl!"
The snail took off with great speed as multiple, large leeches chased them.
"Man, I didn't realize that leeches could run that fast!" Anne said, looking back.
"Or had legs." Sprig said.
"Well that's besides the point." Hop Pop said, "I don't know why you had to involve Polly, she's just a baby. She could get hurt!"
"I may be small, but I'm not fragile!" Polly said.
"I don't want you to get into danger, it's bad enough your older siblings get into trouble." Hop Pop said.
"Hey, it's not like we mean to get in trouble! It just happens!" Sprig shouted.
"Excuses!" Hop Pop said as a leech began to gain on them, smashing against Bessie!
"Hey, back off our snail you ugly bit-"
"Anne, language! This is a Disney property!" Hop Pop shouted.
Anne rolled her eyes.
"Sprig, slingshot!" Anne said.
"Right!" Sprig said as he reached into his shirt and pulled out his slingshot! "Now I need ammo!"
Anne discretely made several web balls in her hands.
"I found some... rocks." Anne said.
"Aim for their eyes! It's their biggest weakness!" Hop Pop said, not even looking at the "rocks."
"Got it!" Sprig said as he grabbed the web balls and took aim!
Shooting quickly, Sprig hit 2 of them in the eyes, making them scream in pain and knock them away.
"Ha!" Sprig said in glee.
"Less gloating, more shooting!" Polly screamed as she looked back and saw more leeches coming! "You still got 4 more to deal with!"
"Don't worry, I got this!" Sprig said, pulling back on his slingshot with s web ball.
Taking a breath, Sprig fired three perfect eye shots and took out most of the remaining leeches.
'Just one more.' He thought, pulling back his last web ball.
That's when Bessie seemed to hit a bump and stopped, which knocked off Sprig's shot.
"Wah!" He let out as the web ball went flying into the front right leg of the leech!
That seemed to be useful, as it accidentally stepped on it and it went sliding away.
"Huh... well that's convenient." Sprig said as Hop Pop stopped and got off to look at Bessie.
"Huh, something's wrong." He said, "Looks like we might be a second."
"Well, might want to cut that in half." Anne said, looking at the sky, "Looks like it'll rain."
And rain it did. It started slow but began to pick up. Hop Pop tried to lift Bessie's shell, sadly that didn't work as he slipped while trying.
"Dang it! It's too muddy for me to check under Bessie!" He said.
"Hey, I could look under Bessie!" Polly said.
"No, you just stay up there where it's safe." Hop Pop said.
Soon the lightning began.
And that scared Sprig and Hop Pop but not Polly and Anne.
"Maybe I could lift up Bessie? I mean, I'm kind of the strongest one here." Anne said with a shrug.
"Sorry Anne, but with all the rain and mud, there's no lifting anything." Hop Pop said, "We may have to find shelter for the night."
"Where are we going to find somewhere to sleep in the middle of the this storm?" Polly asked blankly.
"Hey, I think I see something over there." Sprig said as he points ahead.
It was a nice looking bed and breakfast.
"You guys have B and B's here?" Anne asked.
"Of course we do, Anne. Frogs, toads, and newts are more civilized than you think." Hop Pop said.
"Good. Because I'd rather not get struck by lightning." Anne said, before holding her finger up. "Unless it's to charge my phone and that wouldn't end well."
"What, you don't want lightning powers or something?" Polly asked.
"... That's a bit ridiculous." Anne said, "Anyway I'm going to get sick being out here, so let's go!"
'I already got powers I didn't want from getting sick once. I don't need anymore!' Anne thought as she got behind Bessie and began pushing her towards the bed and breakfast.
It took a couple minutes, more or less 20, but they got Bessie there.
"You all stay out here with Bessie while I check if they have vacancies. Hopefully they'll let her sleep in their stables too if there's room." Hop Pop said as he jumped down and went to the door. "And don't cause any trouble!"
"Okay, we promise!" Sprig yelled.
Hop Pop went inside the B and B, while the kids stayed outside.
"So, what are the odds this becomes one of those moments we'll look back on and say 'Man, that was dumb'?" Anne asked.
"Most likely." Sprig said.
"Yes. Especially if you all keep BABYING ME!" Polly screamed.
"Hey, don't look at us, it's Hop Pop that keeps doing that." Anne said to Polly, "We've seen how tough you are."
"And I felt it." Sprig said, rubbing his chin.
Thankfully, they didn't have to stay in the rain too long as Hop Pop peaked out of the front door.
"Alright, kids, we're all settled for the night! I got us some rooms and Bessie is clear to sleep in their stables too." Hop Pop said, holding some room keys. "Here, Anne, Sprig, take one each. Polly is staying with me."
"What? No! I can sleep by myself! And you snore like an old snail!" Polly said.
"Don't sass me, girl. And you're too young to sleep on your own in an unknown place like this." Hop Pop said.
"Now come on, let's get out of this weather."
"I'll take Bessie to the stables before joining you guys." Anne said, guiding Bessie to the stables.
Once inside, Anne put her in one of the stalls and gave her some hay.
"Okay, Bessie, try and rest." Anne said, petting the snail. "We'll be back in the morning."
Bessie purred in response as Anne turned to walk away, before feeling a sharp pain in her head.
'Ugh! This again!?' Anne thought with a groan, holding her head. 'What is causing these headaches?'
She quickly shook it off and went inside the bed and breakfast. Where she saw the Plantars were being greeted by the owners/family of the bed and breakfast.
"Oh! So this is the "special" grandchild you told me about! Hehehehe, wow. She's a big one!" The father said.
He was a dark brown bullfrog with light yellow stripes on his face and back with a lighter underbelly. He was bald with bushy grey eyebrows and yellow eyes while wearing blue, ragged overalls with a large pocket over a striped, brown shirt with folded sleeves.
"Yeah, she is. Anne, this is Teddy. The keeper of the Dandelion inn." Hop Pop said.
"Woah, haven't seen a frog species like you before." Anne said.
"Same to you." Teddy said, being nice and cheery, "I'm a Horned Bullfrog, my wife and I traveled a while ago and fell in love with the area."
"Really?" Anne asked.
"Indeed. There's just something magical about this place that drew us in." The wife said with a fond smile, adjusting her small-round glasses. "Nice to meet you, deary, I'm Martha. Please, warm yourself by the fire, you must be soaked."
A bullfrog that wore a pink, old-fashioned dress with a white collar and light pink fringes at the end of her skirt and shoulder. There is also a yellow button located between her collar. She also had grey hair that was tied into a bun.
"Thanks, I could really use some heat." Anne said as she walked past the married frogs, the pain in her head flaring once again held back a groan.
Once everyone eas by the fire, Sprig and Hop Pop were eating cookies that the married couple offered. Anne doesn't know why, but something told her not to eat them so she declined.
"What about you, Polly? Want a cookie?" Hop Pop asked. "I'll feed it to you if you want."
Polly didn't look happy, she just crossed her arms.
"I don't want you pity cookies!" Polly said with puffed cheeks.
"Well, more for us!" Sprig aais as he and Hop Pop continue to eat the cookies while Anne and Polly stayed warm by the fire.
A pristine and perfect family moment, aside from the raging storm outside of the house.
They soon retired to their selective rooms with the help of other family members of Teddy and Martha.
"Here are your rooms. We hope you have a lovely nights rest." Said a young adult bullfrog, one Teddy and Martha's children.
"And ring the bell in your rooms if you need anything." Another young adult bullfrog said, also Teddy and Martha's child.
Twin females named Juniper & Juliet, they nodded to them before they walked away.
"They seem nice." Sprig said, eating some more cookies.
"Yeah, they do seem nice." Anne said as the ringing in her head finally stopped once the twins were gone.
'What the heck is that?' Anne thought.
Ever since they got here, Anne's head had been killing her. Was this a side effect of the spider bite that lingered?
'I wonder if they have any headache medicine in this world?' Anne thought as all the cookies were soon gone.
Thankfully, as long as she stayed away from the cookies, she wouldn't have anymore headaches since sugar can cause them to get worse sometimes.
"I should ask them for the recipe. Those were delicious!" Hop Pop said.
"Yeah. Best cookies ever, even better than Ms. Sundew's back home." Sprig said before he belched. "Excuse me."
"Well, I'm going to head to bed." Anne said.
"Yeah, I think it's time we all hit the hay." Hop Pop said with a yawn. "Come on, Polly. Let's get you to bed."
"But I'm not tired!" Polly shouted but was ignored.
Anne went into her room and laid in the bed.
"Man, it's been a day." Anne said as she sighed, shutting her eyes and letting the day's weight fade away…
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
Until a few hours later when she suddenly felt a massive ringing headache and flipped out of bed, just as someone threw a net at her.
"What the heck?!" Anne asked, wide awake!
"You're still awake?" Juliet said in shock, being the one who threw the net at Anne.
"You're trying to catch me?!" Anne asked in shock.
Juliet lunged at Anne, but Anne jumped up, stuck her hand to the ceiling and used her momentum to swing towards the door. She landed on the ground, rolled out of the room and closed the door behind her, before shooting webs at the door and door frame.
'That'll hold for a bit.' Anne thought.
Anne proceeded down to Hop Pop's room as the ringing in her head died down.
'This ringing…is it reacting to danger?' Anne thought.
It would make sensd if this place was more dangerous than they thought, especially since the daughter bullfrog just tried to attack her in her sleep!
Reaching her destination, Anns went into Hop Pop's room and didn't see him anywhere!
"Hop Pop! Polly?!" Anne said, getting nervous as she stepped inside and the ringing in her head returned!
The door closed behind her, revealing Martha… holding Polly.
"Polly! Put her down!" Anne said.
"I wouldn't be making demands if I were you, jellybean." Martha said as she tightened her grip around Polly, making her grunt. "Be a shame to pop this adorable little pollywog like a stinkbug."
This Anne got mad. VERY mad as she immediately shot webs into Martha's eyes, making her drop Polly in surprise.
"Aaah!" Margret screamed.
"I said put her down!" Anne shouted as she pulled the web line, dragging the bull frog to her!
And with one arm, Anne grabbed the woman's and slammed her into the floor! That resulted in the floor boards breaking under her.
'HOLY TOAD!' Polly thouhht in awe as Anne picked her up and ran out of the room.
"You okay, Polly?" Anne asked as she shut the door.
"I could've taken her but thanks. Also, what the heck was that and what just came out of your wrists!?" Polly asked.
"I'll explain later, we need to find Sprig and Hop Pop first!" Anne said.
'I really hope she forgets after we save them.' Anne thought as she webbed the door shut to keep Martha in the room like she did to Juliet.
Anne looked around for a way out in case the other bullfrogs were nearby, before finding a vent.
"Come on, we're going in here." Anne said, crawling up the wall while holding Polly.
She opened the vent grate and set Polly inside first before crawling inside, letting the grate close behind them.
"What's going on here? I thought this was some Bed and Breakfast, not some kinda frog... trafficking... thing!" Anne whispered.
"I don't know, I went to Hop Pop and... he was gone! So was Sprig!" Polly whispered.
"Shoot. But then where would they have taken them?" Anne asked as she and Polly crawled/hopped through the vents.
"Maybe the basement or cellar or whatever this place has." Polly suggested.
"Then I guess we're heading down. Come on." Anne whispered, crawling ahead.
"So does that mean I can help?" Polly asked with a smile.
"Knowing who you are and how violent you are, I'd be an idiot not to accept your help." Anne said. "Besides, my webs can't possibly hold them back forever."
The two moved through the vent, constantly being on the look out through any exit they passed. They had no idea of these… freaks or what they would do of they found them.
'Ironic.' Anne thought, considering herself a freak before she heard something.
"Polly, do you hear that? I think we're close." Anne whisepred.
"Yeah, I hear it. That's Sprig's snoring." Polly said with a nub to her ear hole.
They continued through the vent when they came upon another vent cover. They looked in and saw the bullfrogs in some sort of underground kitchen?
"Go slow with the rotisserie, sweetie. You don't want them to be uneven." Teddy said as he watched Juniper spin Hop Pop and Sprig over an open fire pit.
"Oh frog, they aren't frog-napping, they're cannibals!" Anne whisepred in shock.
"We have to stop them! Do that web thingy!" Polly whispered.
With no other plan, besides saving them, Anne aimed through the vent grate and fired a line of web in Juniper's eyes!
"AAAH!" She let out as she was blinded!
Caught off guard by the new threat, Ted reached for a mallet, but his arm was webbed to the wall As Annd and Polly burst out from the vent!
"Don't even think about it!" Anne said, "Polly, get them out of there!"
"On it!" Polly shouted as she hopped towards the rotisserie stick.
Slapping Sprig and Hop Pop awake!
"Huh?! What's going on?!" Sprig let out.
It was then that the other two bullfrogs arrived through a door! Angry, huffing, and covered in webbing.
"Where is that tall creature?! She dies first!" Margret shouted as she ripped webs out of her hair.
"Right here!" Anne said, running towards her.
Anne raised her fist and delivered a punch to her, knocking her against a few barrels, knocking them over.
"No, my marinade!" Ted said, before Anne shot a web at his mouth.
"That's enough out of you." Anne said, "Polly, are they free?"
"Working on it! I don't have fingers!" Polly said, pulling at the ropes.
Juliet ran towards Anne, but she slipped on the marinade, while Anne just smirked.
'Guess being half spider comes in handy.' Anne thought, not being able to slip due to sticking to the floor.
She ran over to Polly and undid the ropes. Thankfully, Hop Pop was barely awake right now.
'Well, at least only one person has found out about me.' Anne thought, slapping him lightly to wake him up faster.
"Hop Pop, hurry up and wake up, we have to get out of here!" Anne said.
"I... I'm up!" Hop Pop said, fully awake now.
"Good, get to Bessie, I'm going to... restrain these four." Anne said.
The Plantars began to run out of the room, while Anne walked over to two barrels, one labelled Vinegar the other labelled Baking soda. Anne smirked and turned the knobs.
"Finally, Chemistry is coming in handy." Anne said, before running to catch up with the Plantars.
(Line Break)
In the barn, Hop Pop had Polly crawl under Bessie to find the problem, revealing a bear trap connected to her.
"So that's what stopped her." Hop Pop said.
"Uh, guys." Sprig said, holding up a lantern.
There were over a dozen snails there, all with traps stuck to them.
"They've been trapping passengers at the Inn, we're the breakfast in bed and breakfast!" Sprig said.
"Yeah, Obvi." Hop Pop said, "Polly, you and Sprig free the snails, I'll get Bessie loaded and ready to go."
"But what if they catch up with us?" Sprig asked.
"Anne's got them! Now let's free these snails and get out of here!" Polly said as she hopped to the other snails.
They began to undo the traps and free every last snail as they all rushed out of the stables. When they got the last one that wasn't Bessie, Anne came in with a smirk and an evil giggle.
"What's got you so happy?" Polly asked, getting onto Bessie.
"Nothing." Anne said, climbing onto Bessie. "We should leave though. I can't guarantee they'll be stuck forever."
"I agree." Hop Pop said, "Everyone on?"
"Yep." Anne said.
"Here." Sprig said.
"Let's go already!" Polly screamed
"Bessie, things are getting messy!" Hop Pop said.
The snail raced out at high speed while Anne looked happy, holding her hands behind her head.
"Okay, what's with the grin? Seriously, what did you do after we left?" Polly asked as they turned to her.
"Okay, so... there is a reaction I learned about in Chemistry on Earth with Baking soda and Vinegar. So, I decided to use both of those that they had to prevent them from catching up with us, I figured it would make big enough of a distraction to get away." Anne said with a shrug.
"How big was the reaction?" Sprig asked.
BOOOOOM!
Just as he said that the entire building blew up behind them in a giant foamy mushroom cloud. Anne looked at the actual burning remains of the building before she then looked at Hop Pop.
"... Please drive faster." She said in a high pitch.
'THAT IS NOTHING LIKE CHEMISTRY ON EARTH! WHAT DO THEY PUT IN BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR HERE?!' Anne thought in horror of what she did.
