Darkness
Peter wasn’t exactly a rookie at this whole ‘suicide mission but you actually live by the end’ thing. But something about the way that everything was desaturated and almost no light seemed to permeate from anywhere around the shadow planet just left bad taste in his mouth or maybe it was the drink that had been made for them, neither him or Vee really enjoyed but smiled and gave a thumbs up none the less.
However there was no backing out now. They just had to get that and defeat a guy with a sword that can kill gods and gives the wielder superpowers. “Piece of cake.” He said out loud “We’ll see.” Jane countered as they collided with the shockingly small moon. “Honestly I thought this place would be a lot bigger.” Valkyrie commented with a frown “At least it means we will be able to find the kids quicker.” Thor mentioned as they each stepped off noticing that all their clothes had turned black and white apart from Quill’s which already were.
There was almost no noise even Peter, who had to now wear his tactical mask just to breath, wasn’t picking up any signs of life “I really hate to say it but nobodies here. There’s no plants or footprints or anything. Just a floating rock.” He sounds deflated “That can’t be. Axel’s vision took place right here. I know what I saw.” Thor argues determined to find the truth because this can’t be for nothing. There has to be a note or a sign or something that points to where they are.
The group continue to search before coming across a small shack of tents. Yet when they step inside it’s almost like the tents doubled in size as their interiors became spacious compared to the claustrophobic appearance on the outside. “This place just gets weirder and weirder.” Jane comments using Mjolnir to light up the area just like Thor used Stormbreaker and Valkyrie used Thunderbolt whilst Peter had to stick with the night vision on his visor.
“Let’s split up so we can cover more ground. Jane you’re with me and Peter and Thor you two stick together. You see anything suspicious call it out.” Valkyrie devised “So you’ve never watched a horror movie because that is the fastest way the cast die.” Quill pointed out yet he still agreed to the plan whilst muttering under his breath “If there is a guy with a machete around this corner you better eat his head, Vee.” He instructed the symbiote “Gladly.” Venom agreed with an excitement that Peter felt through their bond.
Now on their own Jane and Valkyrie had a moment to talk “So you people do this often?” Jane asked as the two of them read of various random pages and papers scribbled on the walls “Do what? Venture into the unknown? Fight egomaniacal monsters? Or go on dates to questionable…colour drained planets?” Valkyrie quirked a brow at Jane’s flustered expression “Yes..I mean no...I mean uhhh!” Jane blushed but it was hidden under the silver helmet “You’re too easy to rile up. You know what, after this is all done you should try and find me and then I’ll take you out on a nice date to a proper place in new Asgard. They have the finest wine’s you’ll taste.” Valkyrie promised.
Flustered was an understatement but they both smiled at the prospect “We get through this an I’ll take you up on that offer.” Jane agreed and the two shook hands before suddenly a voice was screaming from somewhere beyond “GUYS!!! GUYS GET OVER HERE!!!” Peter bellowed as he sprinted towards them. “What? What is it?!” Jane panicked “The Axe! We need to get rid of the axe! Gorr needs the Bifrost to get to this wish making thing. His whole plan is displayed on a whiteboard.” Peter explains.
Valkyrie immediately knows what he would plan to do “Holy shit. He wants to get to eternity.” She realised “Eternity?” Jane doesn’t understand “Eternity is a very powerful being at the centre of the universe who will grant the desire of the first person who reaches it. I think it’s obvious what a guy named the god butcherer would desire.” Valkyrie and the others begin running to find Thor who was currently being surrounded by jet black tentacles.
The objective was to get Stormbreaker as far the planet as possible and Jane did so by grabbing it from Thor’s hand and throwing it out of a window in the ceiling. “How am I supposed to fight back now?” The thunder god asked before the tendrils moved at shocking speed and snaring both Jane and Valkyrie before they could react and Peter only had an additional second to react and as Venom tried to pull its host away only be ensnared by the shadowy constructs.
Even Venom’s full form’s strength did nothing to help as even they struggled flutily before returning to inside its host leaving Peter coiled in the tentacles along with all the others due to fact that Thor too now was trapped as a figure emerged in the centre of the room. “Now isn’t this a sight for sore eyes.” Gorr laughed amused with himself “It seems the little god had got himself caught in the spider’s web.” The madman smiled as he crouched in front of Thor and even at the self-imposed reduced level the man had an air of imposing about himself.
The killer looked up at Thor “Now I have but one request of you, oh so mighty god of thunder. Call the axe.” Gorr demanded “Why would I ev-“ His mouth was covered by one of the tendrils as the other began to apply pressure and start crushing the others who cry out in pain. Thor felt his rage start to grow at the sight of his friends and loved ones getting hurt and the lighting flew off his body but it wouldn’t do much more than that if he didn’t…”Call the axe, choose love.” Gorr whispered into his ear and even as Quill shook his head Thor felt to need to do so.
With just a call of it he could end this here and now. Thor felt his hand being pulled open and a voice whispered again “Call the axe.” Gorr said and Thor felt it in the distance before summoning it forth. The sound of the crash was booming as half the moon was enveloped in a dome of lightning as everyone collapsed on the floor as Gorr teleported to another location.
Once he Stormbreaker in his hand, Thor rushes to the side of a coughing Peter who was still shaking. “Are you alright?” he asked the former ravager “I’ll be fine but I want to know what the hell you were thinking!” Quill exclaimed looking at the symbiote head that was nervously trying to hide behind Peter’s shoulder to keep itself hidden from the Terran’s limited view. “You need to get up. We have to find him, he’s our only lead on the kids so we need him alive.” Thor mentioned as everyone looked around to see that the tent had been decimated.
Not only that, from the distance they heard the sound of monstrous screeching and roaring and more of the shadow creatures that attacked Asgard appeared around them. “Great. The fun never stops with you guys.” Jane remarked grabbing the hammer and running at one the monsters before launching the shards of Mjolnir at it while Valkyrie launched the Thunderbolt at another and watched as it pierced through multiple of them as Thor ran towards Gorr to confront him head on.
Quill however grabbed the device he had previously been tinkering with and threw it towards a group of the monsters and was lucky that his visor protected his eyes from the burst of extremely bright light that managed to burn out some of the monsters and destroy them.
Gorr gives a solitary point towards Stormbreaker than Thor taunts him with a gesture as if to say “You want it? Come and get it!” Before the two charged and their weapon collide with a flash from them as the metal scrapes together. They both grunt and snarl as the fight intensify. A flying hammer suddenly hits Gorr and gives Thor the chance to kick the butcherer back and launch a flash of lighting at the maniac.
He buckles under it before shifting into the shadows and ducking away leaving them all to fight the various creatures. Jane hold the hilt of her hammer underneath a spider-like monster’s chin and recalling the shards only to watch as it’s head ruptured. Peter slid underneath one as it swiped at him before jumping onto its back and using the quad blaster to shoot up its spine until it fell dead and he jumped off with a roll after successfully killing it and spotting as Valkyrie looked around to see none were attacking her.
That was until a flicker of the light had Gorr right in front of her and she only had a moment to raise Thunderbolt to shield the incoming sword slash. Gorr was viscous with his speed, never letting up as he slashed and swiped wildly but Valkyrie was always able to parry just in time yet was unable to get any of her own attacks in until eventually he disappeared again.
She looks around only to feel the weapon be taken from he hand and a searing pain stab through her back “Valkyrie, no!” Jane shouts but the shout turns to a cough as she stumbles to the floor, hammer slipping from her grasp. Gorr laughs before slipping away again. “We need to leave!” Quill proceeds to shout as he is starting to be overrun by the monsters. Peter and Thor run to where the other two are.
The god tries to use Stormbreaker to summon the Bifrost for a hasty retreat but last second Gorr appears from the shadows to snatch at the axe as the others are lifted. Peter doesn’t have time to catch the final result of the struggle as he is abruptly thrown half was across the galaxy. Unbeknownst to him Thor is unable to maintain a grip on the axe as it slips from his hand and they are all teleported back to earth with Thor letting out a cry of anger after being made a fool of.
He was going to find those children and have his revenge, he swore it.
