Chapter 15
Truth be told, Peter really thought that wooing Wade would be extremely tiring and difficult. But, it turns out that when you really like someone's laugh or smile or blush, that it is pretty easy to woo someone. Wooing is all about making the person feel wanted and happy and it turns out that his boyfriend is very easy to keep happy. It's easy to make Wade feel wanted, too, because, duh, he is.
Peter has found out that Wade's favorite flowers are roses, ("it's not that cliche, baby boy! Stop laughing at me!), pink roses to be exact. He knows that his boyfriend blushes gorgeously when he makes the first move. Wade melted into a puddle of soft pants and whines when Peter initiated there first "real" make out session. And the way his boyfriend was soft and wonderfully pliant had made Peter's heart skip multiple beats. He honestly thought he was going to die from the look on Wade's face. The image of his glazed eyes, ruddy cheeks, and moist kiss bitten lips had been basically seared into Peter's brain and replayed every time the younger boy had tried to study or focus on his homework.
Wade Wilson truly was a distraction. The best distraction
He knows that out of the two of them, Wade is the one who likes to be the little spoon. Peter lives for the moments when Wade wants to be held because Peter loves the feeling of rightness he gets when Wade, big strong captain Wade, curls up soft and little in his arms. He adores that he's the one who gets to see the more soft side of the goofy ball of light that is his boyfriend.
He adores Wade. He wants to woo this boy, this beautiful boy, forever. Or for however long Wade will allow him. Simply put, he's crazy about the young captain. Just thinking about Wade makes Peter smile hugely. His stupid grin is hardly ever off his face when he's with Wade. He smiles so much that his cheeks actually hurt sometimes.
And Wade knows about Uncle Ben and Peter's problems. He knows and he's never once made the younger boy feel inadequate due to his issues. He's held Peter after an anxiety attack, he's seen him completely break down.
They confide in one another. They trust one another.
It's wonderful.
Wade is open with Peter in a way that he never would've have expected. His boyfriend trusted him enough to let his guard down and to talk about his mother. Which is a "no touchy" subject for the older boy. When Wade broke down in tears after telling Peter about his mother leaving abruptly without so much as a goodbye or an I love you, Peter had held him just like Wade had held Peter so many times before.
"She left a note," Wade had choked out, face buried in the soft fabric of Peter's sweater as Peter held him on his couch. "I was this eight year old little boy who needed his mother and she just left a note to dad that said: ' I'm sorry. I can't do this. Tell Wade I love him." Wade laughed, the sound filled with a long repressed sorrow. "If she loved me so much, why didn't she stay? She just left us behind. She left me behind, and she never looked back. And I hate that I still love her," Wade sobbed, hiccups breaking his stuttered breaths. "Why do I still love her, Peter? Why?"
Peter had run a hand through Wade's hair and down his back. An action that he knew Wade appreciated because it grounded the older boy. Peter had told him something Dr. Rogers had said to him in the early days of his therapy when he was upset that uncle Ben hadn't fought harder to stay alive. To be there for aunt May and for him.
"It's okay to miss someone who has hurt you. It's normal. You loved them and you'll continue to love them. Especially if they're your parent or if they were a parental figure. When they leave, it hurts. There isn't anyway around it. But you need to know that nothing was or is wrong with you, Peter. Your uncle fought as hard as he could but it still hurts realizing that he's gone. Remember, it's okay to hurt."
Peter had placed a kiss on Wade's soft hair and spoke softly. "because she's your mom, baby, and she left you. That would hurt anybody. But, Wade, she made that mistake. She left you and she has missed out on the wonderful person you have become," placing another kiss, Peter continued, "it's okay to still love her. You'll always love her. It's always going to be a fresh wound. But, Wade, you're worthy of being loved. Look at how much your dad loves you! He loves you so much that he didn't give you a ticket for speeding that one time," Peter beamed when Wade let out a wet sounding chuckle. "You'll always love her. And that's okay! But, you have to realize that you did nothing wrong to make her leave. It's not your fault, Wade. It's not."
Wade had kissed him after his little speech. It wasn't their best kiss but it warmed them both up. After that, Peter had just held him until he fell asleep in his arms. Aunt May had shot the two boys a soft look when she got home and covered them both in a throw blanket.
She cooked Wade dinner that night and sent some home for Logan, as well. Wade's blush had been adorable and even cuter when Peter kissed him on the cheek causing him to blush even harder.
So, yeah. This whole "wooing" thing was going pretty great so far and Peter couldn't be happier that they get to woo one another.
Peter is pulled from his thoughts when his phone let's out a loud ding. He smiles as he pulls up Wade's most recent text.
From Wade: omw 4 a snuggle. B ready 2 b my big spoon bb <3
Grinning Peter texts back.
To Wade: I'm always ready to cuddle you, Wade.
Standing up from his desk, Peter leaves his room to go wait for his boyfriend.
He's ready to woo the older boy with his amazing big spoon skills.
