Sierra
Ever since the battle of New York, calls had flooded in, offers and requests for the Avengers, individually and as a group, to help promote this or that product or company. Pepper was able to shift through most of them and talk to the guys about the ones she thought might actually be helpful. SHIELD took care of the rest. Unfortunately, some of those corporate types could get a bit tricky. A few began trickling through her fingers, somehow managing to contact the Avengers without going through her first.
One such time was incredibly memorable.
Thor had just learned how to use the telephone. Without breaking it. So while Jane was in New Mexico with Darcy to work on some new findings, Thor sat vigilant beside the cordless phone in the tower just in case she called. He stared at the phone, picking it up every time it rang and having long, rambling conversations with each person until he finally remembered Jane and he hung up to continue staring and waiting.
This went on for three days before anything strange happened. Three days before Pepper came home from the office to find cases upon cases of Sierra Mist tucked into every nook and cranny of the tower. Rooms stuffed with cases under furniture and piled in corners. Cases shoved in every place they could fit. She froze in the middle of the living room, gaping at crate of soda taking up residence in front of the television.
“The hell…” a voice called from behind her. She spun around to find Jane, a bag slung over her shoulder, looking just as shell shocked as Pepper felt.
“I have no idea,” Pepper shook her head, then inhaled deeply to shout, “Tony!”
There was a loud satisfying crash from a floor below and the slap of bare feet on the smooth floor before Tony came into view, skidding around a corner and freezing beside his girlfriend.
“The hell…” he muttered.
“That’s what I said.”
“How did you not know about this?” Pepper asked incredulously, “They’re everywhere!”
“JANE!” an unmistakable, booming voice called a second before the young scientist was swept up in a spine crushing hug. “You have returned!”
Jane laughed lightly as she was set back on her feet. From the looks of it the newly reunited couple were about to have a moment.
Clearing her throat, Pepper cut in, “Sorry, but Thor do you know anything about this.” She waved her hand in the direction of the crate, though she doubted the big lug would have any idea where it came from.
“Is it not astounding, Lady Pepper? The man from the telephone spoke truth about the free drinks!”
Realization washed over the three humans, making Tony burst into laughter. Pepper sighed, rubbing at her temples to relieve the tension building there. Jane began explaining to Thor just what had happened and how he shouldn’t be answering the main phone anymore. They were going to have to get him a cell and only give the Avengers and SHIELD the number. Tony could keep it blocked from the rest of the world.
Now to take care of the life supply of Sierra Mist.
