Yuuri part 2

The car ride to the doctors office was the most nerve racking and uncomfortable moment of Yuuri’s life.

He couldn’t even decide how to sit in the car, obviously Victor was the one driving but for the life of him, he could not figure out how he was even meant to sit in the car seat. He couldn’t lean back on the chair because his wings were in the way and he really didn’t want to lean forward as that was both uncomfortable and dangerous but that seemed like his only option.

Victor on the other hand could only watch helplessly as his husband struggled to even sit comfortably. This made him grip the steering wheel in frustration, to the point of his knuckles turning white.

This wasn’t supposed to happen, Victor thought to himself, his eyes glued to the road ahead. It was supposed to be other people that would go through the supernatural change. It was especially not supposed to happen to Yuuri, if he could he would gladly trade places with Yuuri. Seeing him struggle to only do a simple task made him hurt inside, it was his job to protect his husband, his yuuri and yet he failed.

As Victor pulled into the parking lot of the doctors office he glanced over at Yuuri who was practically trembling, eyes lost in thought ahead, hunched over and leaning his arms on the dashboard, rubbing his shaky hands together.

“Are you ready to go, my love?” Victor asked, keeping his voice level, turning to face Yuuri fully.

Yuuri looked over at him, although Yuuri knew Victor was trying his best to remain calm for his sake, he could see the cracks in his façade but Yuuri appreciated the effort and with a sigh replied “as ready as i can be ''.

And with that they both exited the car walking hand in hand towards the building of their impending doom.

———-

If Yuuri thought he was nervous in the car he was definitely shit scared now, sitting in the dull white waiting room with inspiring posters on the wall saying things like ‘you are the future’ in big bold writing with kittens and dogs did not help his mental stability at the moment, and his want to burn those poster grew the longer he stared.

Luckily for him he wasn’t the only one in the waiting room and judging all the other people's supernatural abilities, he realized that compared to others he drew the long end of the stick. As he did grow scales or turn green but the again he had a fucking pair of chicken wings glued to his back, so not exactly that lucky.

He was grateful though while he was having his internal panic session, Victor had offered to fill out the doctor papers, with Yuuri just filling in the gaps in his knowledge, this unfortunately did not make time go any faster though. It felt like ages just watching people going in and coming out of the room down the hall, some coming out in tears or in smiles. But no matter how many people he saw come and go, nothing could have prepared him for his name to be the one called out.

“Mr Katsuki-Nikiforov” a nurse called from the entrance of the hallway.

Victor gently tapped Yuuri's leg to alert him that they had to go and follow the nurse. So without a word they both got up and walked over. Upon further inspection of the nurse, Yuuri realized that her eyes were full black giving her a resemblance similar to that of demons like the ones you see in scary movies. Lovely, Yuuri thought to himself, he felt like a person being guided into the doors of hell by a happy demon who clearly had too much coffee that morning.

And before he knew it, Yuuri was sitting in the doctors office waiting for the doctor to arrive, Victor by his side gripping his hand as if he was going to disappear at any moment. Then there was a knock at the door and a head poked through and spoke.

“Ah, hello Mr Katsuki-Nikiforov” the man said to Yuuri as walked over to his desk placed up against the wall and he slammed a fat pile of folders on said desk.

“Oh hello” , the doctor said as he noticed Victor sitting next to Yuuri on the chairs that were beside the desk. “And who are you?”

“I’m the husband, Victor” he responded as well, not willing to offer a hand as both hands were both firmly clasped around Yuuri’s.

“How pleasant ” the doctor replies with a genuine smile and not taking any offense to Victor’s unwillingness for a hand shake. His eyes slowly moved away from that man and went over to Yuuri’s, more specifically his wings.

This made Yuuri slowly cave in on himself more than he already was. Was his wings really going to be the first thing people saw when they looked at him from now on?

Just the thought of it made him want to cry but he quickly pushed it down, he would come back to that worry later for now he needed to focus on whatever this man was going to say. I mean. He didn’t even know the dude's name yet.

Yuuri cleared his throat and asked “and you are?”

“Oh forgive me for not introducing myself sooner. I am Doctor Fitzgerald and I'll be in charge of your supernatural ability, yuuri.”

“It’s um nice to meet you doctor Fitzgerald” Yuuri replied unsure of himself.

“Now that introductions are over, Yuuri please stand up and move to the center of the room, so that I can assess your wings.”

And with that he reluctantly let go of Victor's hands and stood up, still mildly shaking from the nerves. He never liked being the center of attention and even though there was only Victor and the doctor in the room he still felt as though the whole world was staring up at him, all their eyes burning into his soul.

The doctor got up and walked over to Yuuri standing behind him, close enough that he could see the wings but far enough away that if Yuuri were to turn back he wouldn’t get hit in the face.

Victor kept his eyes firmly on the doctor watching his every move, making sure that if he were to make any sudden movements that Victor would be the first one to snap his hand in half. One thing that the army taught Victor was that acting like a pretty boy was going to get you nowhere and that if you want to get your point across violence is most certainly always the answer.

The look on the doctors face was full of infatuation, unable to look away from Yuuri’s wings and without missing a beat the doctor opened his mouth “your wings are absolutely magnificent, i never seen a pair with such instruct swirls, i mean you can literally see them reflecting in the light.”

Yuuri really didn’t know how to respond to whether he should be offended or not was resting at the forefront of his mind until the doctor pulled out a tape measure and started to measure them. It just felt wrong and the look on Victor's face definitely coincided with the one Yuuri knew he had on at that moment. Especially the words that later came out of the doctor's mouth.

“Wow, so big. Trust me that's a good thing, the bigger the better as they always say.”

Yuuri was once again at a loss for words, I mean his doctor just told him that…he doesn’t even want to think about it. Maybe in another situation he and Victor would have laughed but as of right now Yuuri both knew they were not feeling the vibe.

Doctor Fitzgerald slid the tape measure back into his coat pocket and sat back in his desk chair but not before gesturing for Yuuri to sit back down. Which he was definitely not against. As he sat back on the edge of his chair Victor's hand found his way back into Yuuri’s. Which made Yuuri smile to himself glancing at their intertwined hands, what he did to deserve a man like Victor, he’ll never know.

The moment was interrupted by the doctor “So Yuuri, the size of your wings would indicate that you should have developed some sort of talent, has that occurred yet to your knowledge?”

“Um, yeah I mean yes. I was able to understand our dog when she was barking.”

“Being able to speak to animals can be very helpful, it seems that you have developed a type of nature talent. Rare but quite useful.”

To this Yuuri and Victor just nodded along to whatever the man was saying, trying to take it all in.

“Have you experienced any cravings?” The doctor asked.

Yuuri confusedly shook his head. He thought cravings were really only for pregnant people. Wait, that can’t mean that..

The doctor quickly wrote some notes down and looked over at Yuuri and Victor who looked like they’d seen a ghost, and in understanding the doctor realized why they looked so pale at the thought of cravings, this was not this doctor's first rodeo.

‘Don’t worry you two. It’s nothing like that, usually when a person first transitions into a fairy which will be your new term, not human, they experience sweet cravings. I've had fairy patients that would eat whole bags of sugar.” The doctor giggled at that last part, but that story reminded him of something.
‘I’m just going to take your blood sugar levels, so bare with me for a moment”

Yuuri stuck out his finger waiting for the prick but the whole sweets thing made him internally panic.

He didn't want to have to eat bags of sugar for the rest of his life and was sure that the whole fairy’s obsession with sugar was pretty stereotypical.

Sensing his husband's worry Victor gently rubbed his thumb over Yuuri’s hand causing Yuuri to look at his husband in his eyes. And what he saw was the pure love that Victor felt for him all on display.

“All done, you can have your finger back now” the doctor said. Causing Yuuri to snap back into reality and look away from his husband much to Victor's chagrin.

“Exactly what i thought, your blood sugar is way below level, even though it’s not incredibly dangerous it is really unhealthy. You need to make sure that you consume an average based on your weight and wing size into account around 1kg of sugar a day, that's around three times the recommended sugar intake for a human.”

The thought of all that sugar made him want to physically vomit, no way on earth would he ever eat that much sugar at one.

The doctor seemed to pick up on his disgust. “You’d actually be surprised at how much sugar fairies actually eat, that is just the recommended serving. Once you get used to it, it will be like eating any other meal. And you're lucky nowadays sugar is basically in everything.”

“That is a lot and won't that be really bad for his body” Victor spoke up finally breaking his silence. “He is a soldier and he needs to be able..”

“I’m going to cut you off right there” doctor Fitzgerald said “For a human yes that would be an insane amount of sugar but Yuuri here is no longer human and the fairy’s body runs on sugar. His metabolism will now work even faster then it did, as it said on your file that you gain weight easily, that will no longer be a problem.” He reassured Victor.

Victor nodded in understanding, he turned to Yuuri to see what he thought on the matter but it was clear that he definitely stopped listening and Victor didn’t blame him for it.

“He will need to be taught how to fly,” their doctor shared, flipping through the papers of his file “as well as really learning how to harness his full ability but that will all be taught to him in the army which he will have to transfer to the supernatural sector for.”

The speak of transferring seemed to bring Yuuri back to earth. “What do you mean transfer?” Yuuri questioned trembling.

“Well” the doctor began “due to your new supernatural requirements in learning to use your ability you will have to transfer, once you learn how to use your power you may be able to transfer back to your old unit, but I’m not too sure how the region has things running.”

“But can’t…can’t I just like learn it on the side and stay in my unit.” Yuuri asked with pleading eyes.

“I’m afraid that’s not how it works and due to you now being a fairy it means you will have new requirements that the basic human unit will not be able to supply or fulfill you with.”

The doctor spoke up once again “You are aware Mr katsuki-Nikiforov that because of your new abilities you will live past all your human friends including your husband assuming you don't get killed beforehand which is now going to be very difficult because of said abilities.”

The room goes silent, the rest is just a blur to yuuri. He remembers signing a couple things but could not tell you what they said as well as saying goodbye to the doctor. Then the next minute he was in the car.

————

On the drive home the couple didn’t say a word to each other, not even daring to make eye contact.

All the possible scenarios imaginable were running through Yuuri’s head, what if while Yuuri was away Victor died on a mission because he was reckless. Yes, he knew that Victor was more than capable of looking after himself and that Mila and Sara would be there too but Yuuri knew how Victor reacts to stuff now. He was scared, terrified right to his core at the possibility of being alone.

Although he really wished that before he left the doctors office, he should have probably asked how to sit in chairs.

Victor on the other hand was terrified for Yuuri. He was supposed to protect him and how was he supposed to do that if he was in another unit.

On the drive home taking slight glances over at yuuri once in a while he couldn’t imagine what the other man was going through right now. But he knew that all he could do was stand by his husband. Forever and always.
