Chapter 7
"This framework is not compatible."
"The genetic coding tower's at ninety-seven percent. You have got to upload that schematic in the next three minutes." Peter sat in his corner when his Spider-sense flipped out, he shoved on his mask as he turned to see Steve walking in with the twins.
"I'm gonna say this once-"
"How about 'nonce'?"
"Shut it down!"
"Nope, not gonna happen."
"Guys come on." Peter told them but was ignored.
"You don't know what you're doing."
"And you do? She's not in your head?" Bruce asked Steve as he pointed to Wanda. Wanda's eyes had been on Peter until he said this drawing her attention to Bruce.
"I know you're angry."
"Oh, we're way past that. I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade."
"Bruce, please-" But Peter was cut off .
"Banner, after everything that's happened...
"That's nothing compared to what's coming!"
"You don't know what's in there!" Wanda yelled back at Tony
"This isn't a game..."
"The creature...!" But everyone was silenced after Pietro used his speed to destroy and unhook the lab equipment to the Cradle.
"No, no. Go on. You were saying?"
"Oh Pietro..." Peter signed as the glass beneath him broke, Barton had shot a bullet from below which caused the glass to break. Pietro fell through and hit the ground hard.
"Pietro!" Wanda yelled for her brother.
"What? You didn't see that coming?" Barton asked him. As Tony goes to reroute the upload Steve throws his shield destroying the monitors which made Tony hit him with a replies blast.
"Guys come on! Stop!" Peter yelled but was again ignored. Wanda went to make a move for Tony but Bruce got behind her and had her in a light choke hold.
"Go ahead, piss me off." He whispered to her.
"Bruce! Stop it! All of you stop!" Peter yelled, he webbed Tony's hand to the wall and Caps shield to the ground so they couldn't continue their fight. "Thats enough!" Wanda uses he powers to hit Bruce away from her. "Wanda! Stop!" Peter told her then suddenly Thor crashed through his eyes on the cradle. His lifted his hammer summoning a bunch of lightning before he pounded the Cradle with his hammer, sending a powerful bolt of lightning into it overloading the Cradle. The body within broke out of the Cradle and sent Thor flying into the lights. The new being looked around at all of them dazed and confused, his eyes then fixated on Thor and then out of nowhere he rushed Thor but Thor was ready and threw his attacked away from him across them room towards the window where the new being stopped before hitting said window, it levitated in front of it staring at it self. Each of the avengers took slow movement towards it being ready for anything but Thor raised his hand to stop them from coming closer. The being then turned to them and as he did it looked like he materialised clothes around him so he looked less naked, he floated down beside Thor.
"I'm sorry, that was...odd." He looked to Thor, "Thank you." He then did it again, he materialised a cape after looking at Thors.
"Thor, you helped create this?" Steve asked accusingly.
"I've had a vision. A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life and at its centre is that." He points to the gem inside Vision's head.
"What, the gem?" Bruce asked.
"It's the Mind Stone. It's one of the six Infinity Stones, the greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities." Thor explained to each of them.
"Then why would you bring it to-
"Because Stark is right." Thor told them,
"Oh, it's definitely the end times."
"The Avengers cannot defeat Ultron." Thor stated.
"Not alone." The being agreed with him.
"Why does your "vision" sound like JARVIS?"
Tony stepped forward. "We...we reconfigured JARVIS' matrix to create something new."
"I think I've had my fill of new."
"You think I'm a child of Ultron?
"You're not?"
"I'm not Ultron. I'm not JARVIS. I am..."
"Vision." Peter finished for him. He looked to Peter in curiosity and nodded after a moment at his new title.
"I looked in your head and saw annihilation." Wanda blurted out.
"Look again." Vision stated flatly.
"Yeah. Her seal of approval means jack to me." Clint glared at the two twins.
"Their powers, the horrors in our heads, Ultron himself, they all came from the Mind Stone, and they're nothing compared to what it can unleash. But with it on our side"
"Is it? Are you? On our side?" Steve asked cutting off Thor
"I don't think it's that simple."
"Well it better get real simple real soon." Clint said getting more hostile.
"I am on the side of life. Ultron isn't, he will end it all."
"What's he waiting for?" Tony asked.
"You."
"Where?"
"Sokovia. He's got Nat there too." Clint told them instead of vision. He must've found some message she left him.
"If we're wrong about you, if you're the monster that Ultron made you to be-"
"What will you do?" Vision asked cutting him off. He looked to each of them and Peter saw the realisation that most of them would destroy him if that happened. " I don't want to kill Ultron. He's unique, and he's in pain. But that pain will roll over the earth, so he must be destroyed. Every form he's built, every trace of his presence on the net, we have to act now. And not one of us can do it without the others. Maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd know if I were one. I'm not what you are, and not what you intended. So there may be no way to make you trust me. But we need to go." Vision ended his speech by holding up Thor's hammer and handed it to him before Vision walking off like it was no big deal, leaving everyone shocked. Peter leaned into the Clint and whispered to him.
"Did that just happen!?"
"Right." Thor pat Tony on the shoulder, trying to move on from what he must've felt was incredibly awkward. "Well done."
Once Steve snapped out of it he turned to the others, "Three minutes. Get what you need." They all nodded, Steve showed the twins where they could find some things to wear. Peter rushed to his lab to resupply his web fluid and some spares. He returned as Tony uploaded a new assistant into his suit.
"Hey think you can help me create one of them for my suit?" Peter asked as he made sure his HUD was fully operational.
"Yeah sure kid, why not. I'll make it a apart of your workload after all this is over."
Everyone was getting into position. Wanda was using her telekinesis to get citizens out of their homes while Pietro went to the police stations to get them to evacuate the city as quickly as possibly while the rest of the Avengers got into position. Clint got up high so he could get a good view of the city before the fight, Bruce and Thor went to Struckers castle in hopes to find him or Natasha there. Cap and Peter went into the city to help with the evacuation and to get in a good spot for when the fighting started and Vision stuck near Tony so they would find Ultron together. Peter helped direct citizens towards the bridge when suddenly the ground started to break and a bunch of Ultron's robot crawled out of the ground, an army of them coming from all sides. Out of the ground, building, the sky , rivers, everything. "Go! Run" Peter told the people as he started to fight the robots. He would web the ones in the sky so he could yank them down or throw them toward other robots while he psychically broke apart the ones closer to him, hoping from robot to robot trying to keep them away from the people. Peter could see Vision depending on the Church as he fought off the robots. A silver blur ran past him destroying robots as it went past before disappearing out of view. Peter made his way further into the city as he destroyed more and more robot. He used the one in the air to his advantage by shooting a web up to them and as it flew around he would fly with it, kicking, webbing and destroying multiple robots.
The ground started to rumble and he heard more screams towards the bridge. He noticed the ground started to crack at the bridge and spread out making a border around Sokovia, the side he was on started to lift slowly. "Guys? What's going on?" The ground was getting higher and higher, Peter saw people started to fall so he used his webbing to pull them back safely. Peters question was answered as all the robots started to speak in Ultron's voice.
"Do you see? The beauty of it, the inevitability. You rise, only to fall. You, Avengers, you are my meteor, my swift and terrible sword and the earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers, turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing. When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal." The earth continued to rise and shake, destroying the country as it rose. Peter continued to fight the robots as they spoke and he made his way further in and found Wanda and Clint fighting by one another. He joined them, Wanda focused on protecting the citizens while Clint and Peter took out the robots.
"Cap, you got incoming." Tony's voice came over comms.
Steve groaned back. "Incoming already came in. Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job: tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed, walk it off."
"Very inspiring." Peter joked to himself. Peter's spider-sense went off and he saw a robot heading straight for Wanda and she hadn't seen it yet. He rushed at her and tackled her with a spin, so they would go through the near by window but he would take the hit from the window. They took cover from, hid out of sight from the robots outside. Peter watched as Clint jumped into a window himself as a robot crashed and exploded in the spot he was in. When Peter turned back to Wanda she was crying.
"How could I let this happen." She muttered to herself. "Its all our fault."
"Hey hey, Wanda. Look at me." Peter said as he crouched down in front of her. She kept looking at the ground as she sobbed. "Wanda look at me." He said again lifting his mask, she slowly lifted her head to see his face. "You need to get it together. You cannot blame yourself, okay? We have all done some stupid shit. Each of us have wanted revenge I can tell you that. But you cannot blame yourself because you are helping to stop Ultron. Right now it doesn't matter what's happened in the past, we are in a war against robot as the city is flying. In there here and now you are fighting to stop this. So stop crying, get yourself together, collect yourself. I'm going back out there but if you can't then you stay out of sight. If I see send Pietro but If you follow me out there you need to keep it together. Your city is falling, people are dying and you have the power to save them, so it is your responsibility to do so. Okay?" She nodded slowly at him, "Okay good. I trusted you back at the lab enough to show you who I am and I trust you now to have my back if I go out there. I hope I'm right about you Wanda." Peter pulled down his mask and was about to jump out of the window back into the fight but Wanda grabbed his arm and stopped him. Peter turned to look back at her and she wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I'm so sorry. For before, at the lab." She said into his shoulder, Peter didn't know what to do at first but he then slowly wrapped his arms around her and returned the hug.
"Hey its okay. Sh sh sh. It's fine. I've had much worse and very ugly kidnappers. You were a step up." He noticed she laughed a little into his shoulder which made him smile. He then slowly pulled away, he gave her a small nod then he jumped out the window just in time to save a citizen, he webbed up the robot and flung it toward a group of them that hovered above them. As Peter and Clint teamed up taking out robot after robot. Peter's spider-sense just kept going off so it wasn't a surprise when he didn't notice one who would've hit if square in the chest if Wanda didn't crush it where it stood. Peter looked to her and it seemed that she had he game face on as she destroyed robot after robot. She was on a war path now, clearing out all the robots in the area which gave Clint and Peter a small break.
"This are is clear." Clint told the rest of the Avengers over comms as Wanda finished up.
"We are not clear! We are very not clear!" Steve gasped over comms.
"Alright, coming to you."
"Keep up old man." A voice briefly said as it sped off with Wanda. Peter chuckled as Clint glared in the silver blurs direction. Clint aimed his arrow in the direction of the silver blur.
"Nobody would now."
"I would know, even if I didn't see it!" Peter told him as he laughed and swung away. Clint jogged behind him muttering to himself. They joined the fight where Steve, Natasha, Pietro, Wanda and the police were. Peter saw Steve toss his shield to Nat to protect herself before they took down the robot together. They continued to fight off the robots and moving the civilians around hoping to keep the out of the crossfire and sheltered.
"The next wave's gonna hit any minute. What have you got, Stark?"
"Well, nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear."
"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan."
Tony Stark: Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're going to have to make a choice.
"Steve, if its the only way..." Peter said over comms, "If Stark finds a way to blow this rock..."
"Cap, these people are going nowhere." Natasha started stating the facts.
"Not 'til everyone's safe."
"The logical thing is to blow the rock. Save the billions on earth compared to the hundred or thousands lefts on here." Peter said as he swung down next to Steve.
"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it." He told Peter.
"He's not say didn't say we should leave." Steve turned to look at Natasha. "There's worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?
"Glad you like the view, Romanoff. It's about to get better." A new and familiar voice came over comms.
"Fury?" Peter asked as he punched a robot away from them, he then turned to look at the Helicarrier rising?
"Nice, right? I pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but she'll do".
"Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve breathed out.
"Oooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Smaller crafts came out of the Helicarrier and hovered at the edges of the cities.
"This is SHIELD?" Pietro asked as he run up to them.
"This is what SHIELD's supposed to be."
"This is not so bad."
"Lets load them up. Get all civilians to those lifeboats." Cap ordered over comms before the split off. Peter swing toward the life boats to clear any robots heading for them to sabotage and to make sure people got on the ship properly. He saw multiple of Ultron's robots heading for the Helicarrier.
"Fury you've got multiple incoming." Peter told him over comms.
"Don't worry Spider-Man, we got it covered." And as the words left his mouth War Machine appeared taking out the stragglers that were heading for the carrier. Peter saw Tony join him and they took out the robots together as they kept coming for the ship. Peter started getting the people on stately, Cap and Natasha brought a larger crowd of them and they all guided them onto the lifeboats safely.
"Why are you fighting me, Spider-Man?" One of the robots eyes turned red meaning Ultron was now talking to him, Peter took that one out but another just took its place and continued to talk. "You've seen first hand how awful human beings are for the planet. Why fight? You're going to loose, it would be easier if you just gave up."
"Its about what is right, not what is easy Ultron," Peter kicked the robot to the ground webbing its limbs to the ground before finishing his sentence, "and that's why the twins left you. They chose what is right, stopping you, over what is easy, revenge on Tony." And with that Peter stepped on its head crushing it. Peter watched as Rhodey took out as many bots as he could but one had hit one of the lifeboats, he was about to yell over comms but Tony got there before he could. He levelled out the lifeboat and guided it on to the Hellicarrier.
"Thor, I got a plan!"
"We're out of time. They're coming for the core."
"Rhodey, get the rest of the people on board that carrier."
"On it."
"Avengers, time to work for a living. Head to the church, the centre of the city." Peter made his way over, he mostly ran there was as many stable structures to use to swing. He got there in time to take one out before it hit Pietro who nodded a thanks before turning to Wanda who arrived seconds after.
"You good?"He asked Wanda, she nodded and told him yes.
"Romanoff? You and Banner better not be playing "hide the zucchini."
"Gross Tony." Peter groaned turning to Tony.
"Relax, Shell-head. Not all of us can fly." Nat responded as she pulled up in a truck cover in the remains of destroyed robots. "What's the drill?" Tony points to the Vibranium core in the ground.
"This is the drill. If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose." He told them and as the Hulk arrived. Peter hadn't seen the Hulk in person before, he would've taken a moment to let that sink if Ultron hadn't appeared right after him.
"Is that the best you can do?" Thor shouted when he saw Ultron and Ultron lift his hand to summon his army of robots to join him.
"Come on, man." Peter groaned waking Thor's arm.
"You had to ask." Steve said giving Thor a look.
"This is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"
Tony Stark: Well, like the old man said." Tony and Steve took a moment to look at each other before Tony continued. "Together." And with that Hulk let out a large roar as the robot arm charged at them. Each hero surrounded the core so not robot could get at it from any direction. Vision and Tony focused on the aerial assaults with some assistance from Thor and Barton , Pietro would run in and out from every direction covering everyone's back if they were too busy with a robot already. Thor would change from an aerial attack to a ground assault switching between the two while Hulk just rampaged all around the area. Steve, Nat, Wanda and Peter focused on ground assaults, Peter had to rely on a lot on hand to hand combat using his strength and agility to dodge and destroy the robot. Ultron came in for an attack on Vision but was overwhelmed by a beam from the gem in Visions head, he was blasted out of the church and into the Street. Vision continued his assault with his high intensity lazer joined by Thor using his lighting to attack Ultron and Tony using his own repulser beam so Ultron was truly overwhelmed. They let off their attack for a moment so they could assess the damage done so far, Ultron struggled to stand.
"You know, with the benefit of hindsight-" But before Ultron could finish Hulk punched him sending him flying and far away. The robots then turned and started to retreat making their way off the floating city.
"They'll try to leave the city."
"We can't let 'em, not even one. Rhodey!"
"I'm on it."
"We gotta move out. Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers, be right behind you."
"What about the core?" Clint asked.
"I'll protect it. It's my job." They all looked to Wanda. Clint Get the people on the boats.
Pietro Maximoff: I'm not going to leave you here.
"I'll stay with her." They looked to Peter and he saw both of them about to argue. "She needs the back up, Pietro is the only one quick enough to get all of the people to safety especially if Cap finds any stragglers."
"I can handle this." She told him.
"I know you can. But you still need back up." Peter told her, she huffed and turned to Pietro.
"Come back for me when everyone else is off, not before." Wanda told her brother who huffed back at her, "You understand?"
"You know, I'm twelve minutes older than you." The childish comment made Peter smile under his mask and made Wanda chuckle.
"Go." She turned to Peter and he smile dropped a little. "You shouldn't stay. I can do this on my own."
"I'm not going anywhere."
