Chapter 20
A few days had gone by and Minji decided it was best to stay with Dong for a while. The two talked everything out and were able to come to a better conclusion of Minji moving in with her.
“Big steps,” Dong smiled with a light laugh.
Minji hadn’t been smiling much, and it made her worried the bunny wouldn’t smile ever again.
“Hey,” Dong reached out and touched the bunny’s arm, seeing her glance up. “You okay?” She frowned.
“My ears are still throbbing,” Minji whispered.
“Maybe you should get them checked… Just in case…” Dong suggested.
Minji sat in a clinic a few days after that with Bora seated next to her.
“Did you leave the baby at home?” Minji asked quietly.
“Yubin’s watching her. She’s been home a lot more lately,” Bora smiled. “It’s cute to watch her play with the little baby…”
Minji saw the loving smile that was just plastered on the kitten’s face as she spoke of her wife playing with their kid. She didn’t get to see Yubin really handling the baby yet, but with the way Bora spoke of her… She could tell the human was pretty amazing.
“So why are we here?” Bora frowned.
“Getting my ears checked,” Minji explained.
“Do you have another infection?” The kitten tilted her head at the bunny, watching her shake her head.
“No… someone yanked my ears… and they’ve been throbbing ever since,” She explained.
Everything seemed to run smoothly, the doctor checking Minji’s ears and watching her reactions while Bora sat in the room, watching just how much pain she was in with simple movements.
“I’m going to touch them now, okay?” The doctor held his gloved hands out, allowing Minji to mentally prepare herself for whatever touching he needed to do.
Bora reached out and held the bunny’s hand, easing some of her discomfort. Minji hated the ear exam for as long as she could remember. She hated them even more after she had her ears injured the first time.
“Well, it looks to me that you might have an aural hematoma in your right ear,” The doctor explained. “It’s essentially a blood filled pocket in your ear. Typically caused by trauma, usually intense scratching or an allergic reaction to food,” He further explained.
“How do I fix it?” Minji whispered.
“Surgery essentially. You would go under and we would drain the pocket since it is rather large. Clean it out and inject a steroid in there to prevent any infections,” He explained.
“Would I need to stay in the hospital or something?” The bunny frowned.
“Not at all. In and out procedure,” he smiled. “It’s a lot more common in dog hybrids, but I’ve seen it happen to rabbits.” He grabbed his clipboard and wrote everything down, giving Minji a few places that could do the surgery and then gave her the referral.
The bunny found herself back at Bora’s place, immediately greeted with loud baby giggles mixed with Yubin’s voice.
“We’re home,” Bora smiled the second she saw her wife on the floor with Nagyung.
“How did it go?” Yubin sat up, glancing back at the two hybrids. “Everything okay?” She frowned.
“I have a pocket of blood in my ear,” Minji frowned while walking in to sit on the couch. “I need surgery to fix it,” she sighed.
“Do you need a ride? I can take you and pick you up,” Yubin quickly offered. “And no it wouldn’t be a problem,” she added.
“That… would be nice…” Minji whispered. “Can I let you know?” She asked, watching the human nod her head.
Minji’s view on humans had slowly changed. Exceptions were made. Dong and Yubin. They were the new exceptions to her assumptions of humans. The only humans she trusted after her direct family.
When her surgery came, Minji was nervous but tried not to show it around Yubin. Except it was futile since the human saw right through her facade.
“It’ll be okay. I’ll be here when you get out,” Yubin smiled.
Dong waited patiently for the text to come through on her phone, knowing she was in good hands with Yubin. She just wished she wasn’t stuck at work so she could take care of her girlfriend.
She was in the middle of lunch when a call came through, and it took every single fiber of her being not to chuck her phone across the room at the sight of the caller ID.
“You have some nerve calling me,” Dong muttered.
“I know, but I really need to apologize to Minji. Is she with you?” Siyeon sighed.
“No, I’m at work and she’s in the middle of surgery,” Dong casually stated. “All thanks to your handy work.”
“What?” Siyeon whispered. “What did I do that required her to need surgery!?”
“Well, you did yank her by her ears. It caused a rupture and now she had to get the pocket of blood drained out before it got infected. She’s been in pain for days and now this,” Dong sighed. “You’re honestly lucky we aren’t pressing charges against you.” She scoffed.
“That’s what I’m trying to avoid…”
“So you’re only calling to make amends to protect your image. Real friendly there Unnie,” Dong growled.
“Look, I know I… I fucked up… but I’m trying to make amends with you and Minji. At least apologize for my actions and hopefully get her to accept the apology…” Siyeon muttered.
“What makes you think she would ever accept your apology? She is very receptive to people's feelings and you ruined whatever trust you could have. Just because you have a stupid assumption of bunny hybrids doesn’t mean Minji is like that. You physically harmed her and further ruined her image of humans,” Dong explained. “Better yet, have you even apologized to Yoohyeon? She was head over heels in love with you and you ruined it.”
“I tried to apologize to Yoohyeon and she said she would never accept my apology until Minji accepted mine.”
“Then I guess you have your answer Unnie.”
“I’m guessing you're not going to accept mine either…”
“I’m not. I plan on staying with Minji and… I’m shocked you stooped that low,” Dong sighed before ending the call.
She let out a sigh before running a hand through her hair. She really didn’t have time for stupid people.
