Chapter 14
“So you just left?” Bora frowned while tying a bib around Nagyung’s neck.
Her usual group of hybrid friends, with the addition of Gahyeon, had decided to meet for lunch now that Nagyung was older and able to sit up properly.
“What was I supposed to do? Cause a scene?” Minji frowned.
“I mean… You could’ve told Dong… She must think you’re still heaving in a bucket right now…” Bora frowned.
It had been a few days since the holiday party and Minji hadn’t returned any calls or texts from Dong. She didn’t know what she was afraid of and everything was starting to be way too much now.
“You could’ve decked the lady in the face… Just saying,” Gahyeon shrugged.
Minji let out a sigh, eyes landing on the little kitten hybrid that sat in a high chair next to her. She was in the middle of playing with a napkin while sucking on a pacifier, completely content with the world.
“I say… Tell her what happened…” Bora whispered. “Especially since you said it really did make you physically sick…”
“Wait, you weren’t kidding about that?” Gahyeon frowned.
“No… I went home, got the stupid collar off, and ended up heaving in the toilet all night,” Minji explained. “But besides the point… What if Dong is making a mistake with me? She’s just going to keep being ridiculed by her colleagues… and the world…” She sighed.
“How long have you guys been together?” Bora frowned while taking the napkin away from Nagyung.
“Like… Seven months,” Minji shrugged.
“Talk to her. Don’t throw away seven months of this relationship because of some idiot humans,” Bora pointed. “Do you know how many people told Yubin to drop me because I was a stupid hybrid?” She frowned. “But she stood by me and not once has she ever made me feel like she regretted marrying me,” she sighed. “Even now, with this little girl,” Bora chuckled while moving the stray little bits of hair out of her kid’s ears.
Minji let out another sigh, looking over at the puppy hybrid that had been entirely too quiet for the entire conversation. She saw that she looked exhausted, frowning at her entire appearance.
“You okay Yooh?” Minji frowned.
“Hm?” The puppy looked over at her, nodding her head. “Yeah, yeah. Just… getting close to my heat, I get tired and look like this before it,” She shrugged.
The little group decided to focus more on food and of course the little kitten that kept grabbing everything from her mother and Minji.
“That is my straw,” Minji laughed while getting the kitten’s little hands off her straw. “Kitty, your child has grabby paws,” she groaned.
“She’s my kid, what can I say?” Bora laughed.
“Bunny Unnie!”
Everyone jumped at the new voice that sounded entirely too close. Minji felt a hand tap her arm, causing her to look over and see Jiyoon… The puppy hybrid that Yoohyeon was babysitting….
“Jiyoon-ah?” Yoohyeon frowned. “Is your dad here?” She asked.
“No, I’m with my mom!” The pup pointed behind her, revealing Siyeon who was already trailing after her daughter.
“Sorry!” Siyeon quickly stated.
“Mommy, I found bunny Unnie!” Jiyoon pointed.
Siyeon made eye contact with Minji, and immediately noticed Yoohyeon and the others.
“Oh… You really did… Didn’t you?” She let out a nervous laugh, pulling her daughter closer to her.
Minji didn’t dare spare her another glance, deciding to turn her head and look away from them. She knew it wasn’t fair to the kid, but she knew Siyeon didn’t like her.
“Oh, Bora, nice to see you again. Is this one yours?” Her tone changed, clearly much more friendly than before.
“Yeah, she’s a few months old now, already sitting up!” Bora cooed over her daughter, letting Siyeon greet the baby.
She barely registered any of the conversations until she heard Siyeon speaking to Yoohyeon.
“I’ll see you tonight?” Siyeon asked.
“Uh… probably not. We’re going to Bora’s for movie night,” Yoohyeon explained.
“I haven’t seen you for a week and I know you’re going to hide for another week…” The human whispered.
“I’ve been working…” Yoohyeon frowned.
“I get that… Just… Do whatever I guess…” She muttered before leaving them with a few polite farewells.
“And why do you have a crush on her?” Minji scoffed.
“I don’t,” Yoohyeon sighed. “I… finally asked her to be my girlfriend and we’ve been going out for three months… I thought it would be easy, but it isn’t,” she groaned. “Dating humans is hard,” she pouted.
“Agreed,” Gahyeon sighed.
“They don’t like the same foods, the same activities, nothing! Hybrids and humans have nothing in common!” The pup complained. “All she talks about is work and at first I thought it was so cool but now I just want to bang my head into a wall! She doesn’t like reading, she hates being active… What am I supposed to talk to her about? The weather?” She continued.
“You could try and find out other hobbies of hers…” Bora shrugged.
“Like what?” Yoohyeon frowned. “She likes video games but doesn’t have time to play them and when I try to coax her into playing anything we end up doing it on her couch because she wants it!” She continued.
“Yooh… I think you need to take a breath…” Minji frowned. “You’re overwhelming yourself. I don’t like Siyeon but… you were fawning over her for so long…” She sighed.
“What do you and Dongie talk about?” Yoohyeon frowned.
“Politics… Food… Movies…” Minji shrugged. “She likes art so we go to museums… I like hearing about her work…” She added.
“And you and Yubin?” Yoohyeon turned to the kitten, watching her let out a sigh.
“Books, movies… I like Bin’s work… places we want to travel to, lately, it’s been baby stuff too…” the kitten shrugged.
“I’m doomed.” The puppy let out a whine before hitting her head against the table, her hair covering her entire head now.
“You know…You could just break up with her…” Gahyeon whispered.
“And do what? Start over with some other relationship?!” Yoohyone muttered without lifting her head up from the table.
Minji let out a sigh, watching the pup struggle with her own life. She knew it was hard enough being in an interspecies relationship, but she didn’t think Yoohyeon would take it this bad.
“It’ll work out… Eventually…” Minji mumbled.
