The Mystery Boy
It was a cool summer night, the city quiet and lit up in the evening glow. The thin softshell mutant listened to the buzzing of his battleshells helicopter blades as he flew over the city. Donatello was on patrol tonight, only meant to watch for any action and report for backup as soon as he saw anything. It had only been a month or two since the whole Kraang incident so the team was still healing, they couldn’t risk any big fights due to their still healing injuries.
The last thing the turtle expected was a green portal opening in an alley and something flew out of it with a loud crash against the alley wall. He narrowed his gaze at it, flicking down his goggles and zooming in on the alley as the portal seemed to close and he took note of a bright light shining and a black-haired male was sat, clearly injured against the wall as he laid in the alley. Against his much better judgment, Donnie flew down outside of the alley and approached, clicking on his glamour so as not to scare the human. he had to be careful, so he was disguised as an average heighted dark-skinned male with his purple hoodie and battle shell still on, he headed to the boy.
Donnie’s eyes widened at the sight of blood which made him feel a buzz of discomfort and uneasiness, but he fought it “um- hey are you- are you okay” NO DUH of course he’s not okay! Stupid.
He sighed and knelt down to him, reaching out, only to flinch and fall back onto his backside when the other opened his eyes and gasped loudly, bright green fading to a soft, crystal blue “uh- uhm” Donnie pushed himself up to crouch by the other, narrowing his gaze in worry “uh can- can I take you to a hospital or something?” he questioned and the dark haired males eyes seemed to widen and he held his stomach “NO!” he yelled in pain, and Donnie blinked, hands up as he tried to keep him from getting up “H-Hey okay okay, no hospitals- but you are kind of bleeding all over the alley, kind of unsanitary you could get an infection you know” the disguised mutant explained, panicking a bit and widening his heterocromic eyes as his arm was grabbed by a bloody hand.
Gross.
“Uh- “the male looked at him, tears in his soft, pained blue eyes. Donnie couldn’t help but see himself in the icy blues, swallowing down his nerves “jazz is going to kill me” he seemed to whisper under his breath “please...I-I know you don’t know…me, but- I’m about to do something weird an-and I need you to help me-“ he began in a pained voice “I can’t…I can’t explain but you have to know…I’m still me I swear…but pl-please I just need you to hide me o-or-or just don’t let anyone get me…please” his other hand moving and Donnie’s eyes widened at the clear Y incision across his chest, which cause fear to ring through the softshell as he looked at the male before him “maybe uh- Elaborate!” he spoke in panic as the other seemed to illuminate and fade “cant…I’m dead tired” he chuckled, but seemed like a sad laugh more than anything as his body seemed to vanish, leaving Donnie to catch a shining, icy blue gem.
He stared at the core, blinking at it “what in the E=mc2” he yelped, before his wrist tech blinked and he huddled the gem close to himself, twisting his wrist and Raphs holographic face appeared “DONNIE! WHERE ARE YOU!” he yelled and before the purple wearing male could answer he was promptly bombarded with more questions “WHY ARE YOU IN YOUR DISGUISE?! WHAT HAPPENED?! ARE YOU OKAY?!” his overbearing older brother continued and Donnie clicked off his broach, sighing “I’m fine Raph, just some mild heroing…helped an old lady cross the street” he lied and heard a sigh from the older on the other end of the call “alright well come home, it’s getting late and Leo said its time to reapply the burn cream on your shell” this drew out a groan from Donnie “alright, I’m on my way” he spoke and hung up.
Donnie then held the core in both hands, staring at it in awe and confusion. It was cold and it felt…. alive.
He didn’t know how fragile It was, but common sense told him to be careful, clearly that guy, whoever he was, was inside this thing, or was this thing? He didn’t know but everything told him to protect it.
He huddled it close to his body, hugging it gently but protectively in his arms as he went to the manhole cover and slid into the sewers. Donnie knew the tunnel system and he wasn’t too far from the lair, so he walked, not wanting to risk dropping the core during flight.
His anxiety was high as he walked, soon arriving home, and not announcing his presence as Leo caught sight of him and came over “Dee! Heyyyyy its cream ti- what’s that?” he questioned, reaching to it but Donnie stepped away from him “None of your business” he hissed and Leo narrowed his gaze “weirdo- fine take the battle shell off and meet me in the med bay alright?” his twin instructed and he gave a sigh.
Donnie was tired, he felt uneasy about what he saw, unable to get the image from his mind as he headed to his lab, entering it, and keeping the core tight in his arms, refusing to let it go for even a moment. He clicked a button on his battleshell, and it fell off, he reached and carefully hung it on its respectful rack. The turtle then once again regained a protective hug on the cool temperature gem as he headed to the med bay.
He looked to his brother “lets get this over with, I don’t want to be here longer than you force me to be” he spoke and gently placed down the core on the bed, pulling off his hoodie and wrapping it around the gem before gathering it right back into his protective arms, sitting down himself.
“Dude you’re acting super weird, and don’t think I didn’t see the blood on your hoodie, what was that? You said you helped a lady cross the street, I can sense when you’re up to something, so tell me” Leo spoke, getting the burn cream open and going behind Donnie.
Donatello’s shell had been burned and damaged from the Kraang ship when he took it over, after initial healing he now had to apply cream daily to assure it didn’t get worse or anything “its not my blood” he spoke “Leo…what is the medical term for dissecting someone who is alive and awake?” he questioned, which obviously caught Leo off guard “uh..a vivisection, why? Dude, you freak me out sometimes” he laughed, applying the cream.
Donnie cringed from the cold touch on his sensitive shell, grimacing “nothing, just wanted to know” he mumbled. He couldn’t tell Leo; he hadn’t promised the male that he would keep him hidden but he didn’t want his brothers knowing about him. He knew Leo and Mikey would get overly curious and Raph would freak out. Leo, knowing the core existed was a problem in of itself but he could work around it.
He just needed to keep it secret from the others, or at least away from them.
Soon the annoying medical treatment was done, and Donnie stood “can you tell everyone to stay away from the lab, I have things to do” he said simply and walked out, leaving Leo there to grumble.
“Thanks for applying the burn cream bro, you’re a real one” he muttered “such a wierdo.”
