It's Called Free Fall

When Enid and Wednesday finally arrived at the village the goddess got to see firsthand how bad things actually were.

While they didn’t live in dirt huts like Enid initially thought, they lived in termite-infested wooden shacks that were falling apart.  Some of the houses had doors that were barely hanging on by the hinges, and the roofs had missing tiles that had been eroding over time leaving holes in the ceilings.

Some of the houses were leaning over, very close to completely collapsing.

Some of the houses had gardens next to them with plants that looked very close to death. The dirt in all the gardens looked dry like it hadn’t been watered in a very long time. The roads, if you could call them that, were covered with overgrown plants and tree roots.

The villagers were all dressed in the same material that Wednesday had before she had changed that morning, and they all looked severely underfed.

In short, the entire place was disgusting, it was no place for a god and definitely not for a god’s bride.

But if Wednesday wants to fix this place up then who is she to judge?

But this is like,

A lot.

Even for her, this was a lot.

Where does she even start?

Food probably, after all, there’s no use fixing the village if they starve to death.

Then again if they starve to death she doesn’t have to do this.

decisions, decisions,

“Enid,” The blond turns to look at her wife “Should we get started now? I have few ideas of where to begin the improvements .”

Oh thank fuck, of course, her wife would know precisely what to do.

“YES, please lead the way!”

The first thing Wednesday leads her to is a very large empty clearing, at the bottom of the clearing she could make out some fish skeletons and a lot of dead plants.

“Honey, what am I looking at?”

Enid questioned turning to face her wife.

The other girl let out a small sigh “This used to be my village’s source of water, we depended on it for fish and for the duckweed it kept alive.”

Wednesday took the blond’s hand and started walking around the bank of the lake, “About half a year ago another village showed up just upriver and dammed the river. Which caused our lake to dry up.”

This was an easy fix, Enid knew exactly what she needed to do!

“I’ll take care of this right away!”

She gave her wife a quick kiss on the cheek and then flew upriver.

It was easy to find the village, they had done a pretty good job for themselves especially after only being there for less than a year.

She almost felt bad for what she was about to do.

Almost

Obviously, she couldn’t tell Wednesday about what she was going to do.

But her wife cared about her village and there was no way they would survive if these assholes kept hoarding their water.

She glided down to the center of the village where she was quickly recognized by the villagers.

One by one they all formed a circle around her, some looked at her in awe, and others in confusion. It wasn’t every day a normal village got visited by such a god. Some of the villagers closer to the back of the circle even hoisted their children up on their shoulders to get a better view of her.

Some people would be flattered, but this was the bare minimum for a god. Where were her offerings? Her words of praise?

They weren’t even kneeling for her.

This village was blasphemous.

Slowly the circle parted and one woman made her way to the front. The woman was dressed far better than most of the others and wore a small silver diadem.

After she made her way directly in front of Enid she started to speak.

“Dear moon Goddess, what brings you to our village?”

“Is that diadem made of silver?”

The village leader looked taken aback by her bluntness but there was no time for pleasantries.

“Y-yes, we found some in the river and a nearby cave, we’ve been trading it with other villages.”

So that’s why this place was doing better than Wednesday’s village.

She could try to convince Wednesday to move the village closer to that cave.

Or she could convince these people to leave and just take this place over. That way they wouldn’t have to rebuild anything.

But would her wife abandon the place she’d grown up? The place that she was so desperate to save that she’d pledged her life to a total stranger for? Well, there was only one way to find out.

This village was in way better condition, the houses were practically brand new, and the river was still close enough to fish from. Not to mention the gardens were thriving in this area which probably meant the soil quality was better.

Enid cleared her throat loudly, “You must all leave this area immediately, take what you can from your homes and get as far away as possible.”

She could hear villagers start to talk amongst themselves, questioning why they had to abandon their homes.

The village leader once again spoke to Enid, “Our Goddess, why must we leave? Is there something happening?”

She was starting to get annoyed with these people, there was a time when a god would tell a village to leave and it would be done without question.

“Yes there is a reason, I would like to have this village for my in-laws, and it’s hard for them to move in when people are living here.”

The murmuring around her got louder, with some villagers even being brave enough to start yelling at her.

“You can’t just expect us to leave our home because you want it!”
“You can’t do this to us!”

“Where would we go?”

“We’re people too!”

The disrespect, who did these mortals think they were?

She was done playing nice.

She was probably going to get a stern talking to by the others,

How very annoying.

In one swift move, she grabbed the village leader by her long blond hair, making sure to grab it as close to her scalp as possible.

“ENOUGH!”

The villagers around her all fell to their knees and screamed out in pain.

“Oh, don’t you even! If my in-laws can handle it then you can too, there’s no reason to be so dramatic.”

She looked down at the village leader, who was now on her knees holding her ears and crying.

“Oh get up!” She pulled the woman up by her hair and started walking closer to the villagers “YOU ALL HAVE ONE HOUR TO GET OUT OF HERE!”

To make her point clear Enid pointed to a building that was quickly struck down by a small meteorite. The building exploded with the impact sending rocks flying in every direction.

The villagers finally fully understanding their situation scattered to get their belongings.

Enid let go of the woman’s hair, and without the support, the woman slid onto her knees and continued crying.

She looked up at the goddess with tears and snot dripping down her face “Why are you doing this to us?”

Enid lowered herself to be face to face with the woman, “Because I’ve worked too hard and waited too long for this. Because I’ll be damned if all the work I put in is for nothing. Because I didn’t create her to lose her to something like this. Now go get your shit my wife’s family is going to be here soon.”

Enid patted the top of the woman’s head like a dog then took off back to her wife.

When she made her way back Enid found Wednesday exactly where she had left her.

“Wednesday you won’t believe it! The village was empty. It’s like they all just took what they could and left.”

She watched as the brunette's eyes brightened with joy, “Truly? This is unexpected, what do you think happened?”

Oh shit, “Um, I saw one of the buildings was collapsed maybe a rock fell from the mountain and freaked them out?”

Please believe me, please, please, please

“I guess that’s possible.”

Oh, thank the gods, “Well, I was thinking that it's probably a good idea to move into that village instead of staying here.”

Wednesday stayed quiet for a moment, possibly considering the idea, “That sounds like a good idea but what of the rocks falling from the mountain? If one already destroyed a building how do we know it won’t happen again?”

“Oh, that’s an easy fix. I’ll just fly around the area and get rid of all the rocks that look unstable. Oh, I also noticed that they had a lot of silver in the village maybe they have a source nearby? You could use the silver for trading right?”

The brunette looked slightly surprised at her answer, “That’s actually a surprisingly helpful answer.”

Enid reached out and grabbed Wednesday’s hand and gave it a small kiss “Anything for you darling.”

The blond watched as her wife’s face turned light red.

Wednesday pulled her hand away from Enids slowly, face still dusted red, and went to tell her parents the new plan.

Meanwhile, Enid celebrated her newfound progress with her wife by dancing in a circle and chanting.

“Oh yeah, oh yeah, go Enid, go Enid.”

As she was dancing she heard someone walking closer, she looked over to see Wednesday and her parents.

“Hey in-laws, sorry about yesterday but I found a way to fix your whole dying village problem.”

Gomez stepped forward “Yes Wednesday told us about your idea. You’re completely sure that the village is abandoned?”

“Yes sir, everyone who lived there is long gone by now.”

“And you’ll take care of the rocks?”

“100% You won’t have to worry about anything like that as long as you live there.”

Gomez looked over to Morticia “What do you think amor?”

Morticia looked at her daughter “Wednesday, my darling do you trust her judgment?”

Wednesday looked her mother in the eyes and nodded her head firmly “I do mother.”

Morticia smiled “Then it’s settled we will inform the others and make our way to our new home immediately.”

Enid and Wednesday stood next to each other watching as Wednesday’s parents walked away.

“For a second I thought you wouldn’t consider it,” Enid said.

Wednesday looked at her wife “Consider what?”

“Leaving, I thought you would make a huge speech about how this was your home and how you’d never just leave it.”

Wednesday let out a small hum before she answered “Home is wherever the people you care about are. As long as they are happy and healthy I do not care where I have to go.”

The brunette reached for Enid’s hand taking the blond by surprise.

“Thank you, thank you so much.”

Enid looked at her wife in shock “No problem.”

Enid ran her thumb over the back of Wednesday’s hand noticing how dry they were, her hands were also calloused from all the work she’d been doing. All Enid could think was that, now that Wednesday was by her side where she belonged, she wouldn’t have to work like that ever again.

Enid would take care of her, after all, it’s the least she could do since it was her fault her wife had to live like this for so long.

But Wednesday would forgive her, after all, they were meant to be together.

Enid went out of her way to make sure that they were.

She brought her wife’s hand up to her mouth and gave it a soft kiss “I’m sorry you had to live like this for so long but I’m here now.”

She looked up and Wednesday’s earth-brown eyes met Enid's ocean-blue, for the first time in her life Wednesday Friday Addams could truly and honestly say that her heart skipped a beat.
