Wednesday's Illness (Angst+Fluff)

Enid Sinclair

Never have I ever experienced Wednesday looking more pale than normal. I found her in our dorm after Yoko and I were done hanging out during lunch. She laid on her bed clutching onto her lower abdomen. I could hear her grunting in pain with her face squeezing. I noticed she was shaking and had a trash can sitting right next to her. Something was definitely wrong.

"Wednesday! What happened to you?!" I anxiously asked my roommate.

"I-I may have been poisoned," Wednesday responded, clenching her teeth together.

"We need to get you to the hospital then. I'll tell Principal Weems. Stay here and don't move," I ran out of the room to find Weems and alert her about Wednesday.

In a matter of minutes of searching her around the academy, I found her.

"Principal Weems!" I shouted her name to grab her attention.

"Enid? Is everything alright? You seem frantic," Larissa noticed my emotions.

"Something is not right with Wednesday. She's not feeling too good and told me she might've been poisoned," I warned Weems.

"I'll call an ambulance while you take me to her," the tall woman said as she pulled out her cell phone.

I traveled back to my room feeling super worried about my roommate. Principal Weems did follow me while talking to an operator through the phone. It didn't take a lot of time when Weems and I reached the dorm. I opened the door to reveal Wednesday vomiting in the trash can. I ran over to her and soothingly rubbed her back. I even grabbed tissue by her nightstand and cleaned her mouth.

"They are on their way. Wednesday, can you move or walk?" Larissa put the phone away from her ear to listen to what Wednesday had to say.

"I can't. If I move an inch, the pain in my lower abdominal area worsens," Wednesday stated groggily.

Weems put the phone back to her ear and said, "She says her abdomen will hurt more if she moved or walked."

"I'm so sorry that this is happening to you Wednesday. If only I could take your pain away," I whimpered softly.

"You would die feeling this type of pain. I will survive anyway. Don't worry," Wednesday reassured me as she laid back down.

I gave her a sad smile and even brushed her bangs to the side, allowing me to touch her head. Her skin felt warm but soft at the same time. It must be a fever she caught. I thought based on her symptoms it would be the flu she had gotten Although, her abdominal area is creating agony. This has something to do with her organs.

"Yeah no she did throw up. She's holding onto her right, lower side of her abdomen," the principal continued talking on the phone.

"Did you really get poisoned?" I gazed back to the psychic.

"No. That was a figurative speech. But it does feel like I did get poisoned," Wednesday uttered nonchalantly.

"Her symptoms sound like she has appendicitis? That doesn't sound good," Weems appeared concerned.

"What the hell is appendicitis? Does it have to do with your appendix?" I queried Addams.

"Yes. Whoever told Weems about the illness may be correct. The organ is located where my pain is."

Knock knock knock!

"That must be the medical team," Larissa walked to the door and opened it, revealing four individuals with dark blue clothing and bags in their hands.

They even had a stretcher right next to them.

"Is the patient located here?" The man asked Weems.

"Yes. Come on in," the white haired woman stepped aside for the men and women to enter the room.

I pulled myself away from Wednesday as the group of medical professionals began taking care of Wednesday. I watched along with Principal Weems as they started helping her up onto the stretcher carefully. She groaned and mumbled a few words as the team placed her on the equipment. They then dragged her out of the room, sticking right next to Wednesday.

"Can you drive me to the hospital? I want to make sure Wednesday will be okay," I faced the shapeshifter.

"As long as you stay put in the hospital, fine."

"Thank you."

When Larissa and I made it to the hospital, they already took Wednesday in to do a CT scan according to the lady at the front desk. I wanted to see her and needed to know what's going on. Thankfully, a doctor came out to the waiting room with a clipboard in hand.

"Are you Larissa Weems? Wednesday's principal?"

"Yes I am. Will she be alright?" Weems rose to her feet.

"Yes she will. Her medical insurance is active so that's a good thing. From what we find taking blood tests and the CT scan is that she has appendicitis. What it is is an infection to the appendix that's inflamed and filled with fluid that can eventually burst Wednesday's organ. But don't worry, she's already heading to surgery and will survive," the doctor clarified.

"I'm happy to hear that. Thank you," Weems bowed her head down.

"No problem. The procedure will take about an hour so sit tight and you'll be able to see her in no time."

"Will do. Thanks again."

"Sure thing," the physician smiled before walking away from the waiting room.

"That's great news. I'm happy to hear Wednesday will be better after her surgery," Principal Weems grinned.

"Same here. She doesn't deserve to go through another pain like she did during the incident between Thornhill and Crackstone. Wednesday needs a break," I puffed out air.

"That girl certainly does. You really care about her, and it's a good thing. You're quite protective and noble to Wednesday. Have you noticed that?" The woman stared at me.

"Sort of. I mean, she means a lot to me. I would do anything for her now that I think about it," I rubbed the back of my neck, feeling the warmth crawl on my face.

"Heh. You and Wednesday remind me of Wednesday's mother and I when we were your age. I would love to experience the moments we had together," the principal addressed.

"What was Morticia like? I heard a little bit about her but not that much," I leaned back into the chair.

This was the perfect time to have a deep conversation with Weems to kill time as Wednesday had her surgery. It even took my mind off of her in the meantime. Larissa and I had learned about each other which is the first. We hardly communicated with each other. We had some good laughs and even talked about some emotional memories. Overall, I felt calm being around my principal.

As minutes passed by, I didn't know that an hour had finished. I was distracted by the shapeshifter's story that a nurse had to intrude on our discussion.

"Sorry to interrupt but Wednesday's surgery is a complete success. You are able to see her in room seventeen down the hall and to your left," the nurse provided us directions.

"Thank goodness everything went well. Enid, would you like to accompany Wednesday while I stay here?" Principal Weems questioned.

"If you don't mind, yes please," I replied.

"Go ahead," Weems nodded.

That was the nurse's cue to leave as Larissa stayed in the seat. I went ahead to find Wednesday's room on the first floor of the hospital. It was easy to find it because it was the last room further down the hall. The number seventeen had been displayed in front of the door. It was slightly dark inside, but I proceeded to go inside.

I twisted the knob and pushed the door, feeling the cool air hit me. Immediately, I found Wednesday lying on the white bed with her gown on. What surprised me is the fact that she was awake. I always thought that patients who are put under anesthesia would still be asleep after the surgery. Apparently, Wednesday is not like them.

I found her staring at the ceiling as if she's concentrating in her mind. Though, she stopped when she heard me enter the room. Wednesday was hooked up with an IV and a machine. That didn't stop her from sitting herself up.

"Wednesday... you should lay down and rest up. Let your body heal," I vocalized.

"I'm fine. I don't want to be in a building filled with sick people. I'm ready to go back to Nevermore," Wednesday tried to get off the bed, but I gently pushed her back down.

"No. You need to recover from the surgery. You're not doing this again like you did after Joseph struck you with an arrow and a knife. I need to make sure you are one-hundred percent well enough to move around. For now, relax your body. I will be here for as long as I can," I made a point.

"You are unpredictable Sinclair," Wednesday glared at me.

"I know. It's not my fault that I care about you so much. I was scared that I might've lost you during that night. That's why I'm like this, so get used to it," I gave a heads up to my roommate.

"I already am used to it thanks to you," Wednesday turned her head away from me.

"You know I am not that bad. Just stubborn and worried," I slowly but surely was capable of holding onto Wednesday's left hand into my own.

"I'm aware."

Weirdly enough, the raven did not push my hand away or made any remarks about it. Instead, she allowed me to hold onto it. Wednesday still faced her head away from me, although I didn't mind it. Shockingly, I saw her cheeks turn tinted red. I found it cute that I had some effect on her. Hopefully, I have the courage to tell Wednesday how I really feel about it. As of now, I'm just happy to be around her.
