Chapter 2

"You're my sister. Of course, I was gonna help you," Merlin said. Arthur and Merlin talked a little and I tried my hardest not to laugh at the look on Merlin's face as Arthur talked about all the chores Merlin has to do now that he's rehired as Arthur's manservant. I didn't know Arthur had dogs.

...

Over the next few days, Camelot's water supply is tainted by magic and Arthur, Morgana, Merlin and I kill the Afanc responsible by Arthur wielding a torch against it and Merlin and I conjure wind that blows the fire to the Afanc. A few days later, Merlin is poisoned during the celebration of the peace treaty with Lord Bayard of Mercia and Merlin was kissed by Gwen before explaining to her that he's gay. A few days after that, Lancelot showed up, Merlin faked a seal of nobility, Lancelot became the first male Knight not of nobility just as I was the first female Knight not of nobility and a Griffin terrorised the land and was defeated.

For the last few days, Morgana had been in a coma until a guy named Edwin saved her. He almost got Gaius fired and almost killed Uther and Gaius until Merlin killed him and saved them both. It was discovered that he was the one who placed Morgana in a coma by enchanting a bug to crawl into her ear. Ew. I'm so glad she's ok. Everyone was really worried about her... I was really worried about her. Morgana is sweet and kind and caring and charming and beautiful and intelligent and-- Okay... I kinda have a slight crush on her but still... Camelot would be a much worse place without her in it.

Today, two new people arrived in Camelot: Aulfric, heir of Tirmawr and his daughter, Sofia. When she saw Sofia, Morgana started acting weird. I'll have to find out why.

...

Over the last few days, I've tried to find time to talk to Morgana but I haven't had the chance until now. I have to talk to Merlin about Sophia and her father first though. When I get to Gaius' place, the only person there is Morgana and she seems really worried. "Morgana? What's wrong?"

"Cassie..." She runs over to me and hugs me. "Arthur, he... I had a dream the day before Sophia showed up that she was going to drown Arthur. Gaius says not to warn Uther but if it's the only way to save Arthur--"

"You can't. Seeing something yet to happen... Seers are as persecuted like Sorcerers. You'd be killed. Where did Gaius go?"

"He said he was going to find someone who could help but--"

"Then, the matter will be dealt with and Arthur will be fine. Trust me."

"I do. I'm just worried." I chuckled and Morgana looked at me in confusion. "What?"

"I was wondering why everyone was talking about how you're jealous of Sophia but I get it now."

"I'm not jealous. I'm concerned for his life."

"I know."

"Besides, I could never be jealous of someone being with Arthur because I could..."

"What?"

"I could never love a man," she whispered.

"Morgana?" I whispered back.

"Yes?"

"That makes two of us." She looked at me in shock.

"You...?" Her voice returned to its normal volume so I did the same.

"Yes."

"Does anyone else know?" Morgana asked. "You're the only one who I've told."

"Merlin does. He's only interested in men so he gets it. Personally, I think that's why, despite calling him a prat, Merlin's so interested in helping Arthur," I chuckled.

"I should probably get going," Morgana said.

"Yeah, ok... Morgana... Arthur will be fine." She hugged me again and then left.

...

Over the last couple of days, after Arthur returned safely (thanks to Merlin), a Druid boy has been loose in the castle and we Knights have been tasked with finding him. No luck so far. I decided to go and visit Morgana and see if she knew anything as she'd told Arthur that the boy had been hidden behind the screen in her room and he was too concerned about looking like a fool to actually look. I knocked on her door and she answered. I could feel Merlin's magic. What's he doing in there? "Cassie? What are you doing here?"

"I heard about what happened when Arthur was in here earlier. All the Knights are talking about it."

"Yes, well, Arthur's a fool."

"That he is. And a total prat too."

'Thank you, Emrys.' What was that?

'Emrys? Why do you call me that?'

'Among my people, that is your name.'

'You know who I am. How?' "Speak to me."

"Merlin?" Morgana walked in and I followed her. I shut the door behind me.

"I don't know if he can't speak, or... He's just too scared to." Merlin finished treating the boy and then left. "Are you going to tell Uther he's here?"

"No. But be careful, Morgana. If he finds out you and Merlin are keeping the boy here, I'll lose my brother and you and I don't want that."

"He won't find out... Why are you protecting the boy?"

"Your dreams... They're classed as magic but they helped save Arthur's life--"

"Gaius and Merlin said--"

"They lied. You almost told Uther and got yourself killed. They're worried about you and so am I. You can't tell anyone, Morgana. I just don't think lying to you is the best way to protect you."

"Would you ever lie to me?"

"... I might keep things from you, not all secrets I know are mine, but I would never lie to you, Morgana. I promise. If you ask me something, I'll either tell you the truth or tell you some of the truth or tell you I can't say but I will never lie to you. I couldn't. You are one of the five most important people in my life, the other four being Gaius, Merlin, my father and my mother. I care about you."

...

Morgana got caught with the boy but Arthur and Merlin smuggled the boy out when she was with Uther and he didn't know about them so they got away with it (even though they almost got caught because Merlin wasn't sure if he should help the boy who may end up killing Arthur). I had found Arthur and the boy, who Arthur later told me was called Mordred, and told the other guards they weren't down there. Merlin got there just in time to get them out.

...

Over the last couple of days, Arthur was made Crown Prince of Camelot as he came of age and Sir Pellinor died after he took up the challenge the Black Knight made for Arthur. He was the second to accept the challenge in the Prince's sted (after Sir Owain) and the second to die. The Black Knight buried his sword in the ground just as he had after killing Sir Owain. I saw Arthur take off his gauntlet and knew what he was going to do. I quickly took mine off too. Arthur went to throw down his gauntlet but I beat him to it. "I, Cassiopeia Black, challenge you."

"So be it," the Black Knight said.

"Single combat. Noon tomorrow." The Black Knight growled as he pulled his sword out of the ground.

...

Last night, I overheard a conversation between a sorcerer and the King. She used magic to give the King and his wife the son they wanted and Arthur's mother died because of it. That's why the King hates magic. But the fact that he said he wished she'd never granted his wish... I get that he meant he hadn't wanted his wife to die but if his wish had never been granted, Arthur would never have existed. How could he say such a thing? I don't know if I should tell someone about this or not. If I should tell Arthur... I looked over my armour but my sword is missing. My father's sword is gone. I never go anywhere without it. It's always on me unless it's lying against my bed when I sleep. How did it just disappear? There's no way I was zoned out enough that someone could come in, grab it and leave with it... Merlin! But why would he-- Someone knocked on the door. "Come in." Morgana came into the room and shut the door behind her. She walked over to me and sat down on the bed beside me.

"I don't want you to fight tomorrow."

"If I don't, he'll challenge Arthur. Even Arthur hasn't beaten me in a fight yet. I'll win. If not... Maybe Arthur will see sense and he won't fight the Black Knight."

"Don't... I can't bear the thought of you losing... Cassie... Please, for me... Don't do this."

"I have to. It's the Knights' Code."

"Fine. I understand. But..." She handed me a similar token to the one she had given Sir Owain before his fight with the Black Knight, however, this one was blue. "So you can remember there are people who need you to come out of this fight alive."

"Thanks," I whispered to her. She's so close. For a second, I thought her eyes had dropped to my lips but I must be seeing things. It's exhaustion, I'm sure. Morgana leaves and I go to sleep. When I wake up, my sword is back only it has gold writing etched into it. One side said 'Take me up' and the other said said 'Cast me away'. And the sword is radiating magic and power. Merlin, what did you do? I get ready, eat a small amount of bread before feeling sick and then leave. I stand facing the Black Knight and smile at Morgana before the fight begins. It's close for a while until the Black Knight starts to gain the upper hand. For a moment, I thought he was going to win when my sword was knocked out of my hand until his sword got stuck in my shield. I let go of the shield, grabbed my sword and plunged it into his stomach. I pulled the sword out and the wound set on fire. A few seconds later, the Black Knight blew up. Everyone was shocked for a few seconds before they all started cheering.

...

"I'm glad you made it out unharmed," Morgana said as I let her into my room. I shut the door and sat beside her on my bed.

"Me too. For a second there I thought I wouldn't."

"I was worried for you."

"I'm fine, Morgana."

"Cassie, I-" She sighed. "I just..."

"What?" Morgana put her hands on my face and pulled me in for a kiss. She's a really good kisser. We kissed until we needed to pull back for air. Morgana kept her eyes closed with a smile on her face for a few seconds before opening them again. Then, she looked shocked by what she had done, apologised and ran out.

...

Over the last few days, Merlin, Morgana, Gwen, mom and I have been travelling back home because Ealdor has been threatened by a man called Kanen. The night after we left, Arthur joined us and the two of us have been training the men in the village to fight after Merlin, Arthur, Gwen, Morgana and I had initially fought off Kanen and his men. Gwen, Morgana and I tried to convince Arthur to let the women help fight but Arthur said it was too dangerous and refused to talk about it again. I'm still really mad at Will. It's his fault we had to leave as mom found out that he knew about mine and Merlin's magic (I'm still kinda upset Merlin told Will about my magic when he found out about Merlin's). She was worried about us. Now, Will's trying to convince everyone not to fight Kanen despite knowing if Kanen gets what he wants, a lot of people will die.
