Tony Stark is like Jack Nicholson's Joker

This is interesting because the quote about it is that Tony, like the Joker, doesn’t acknowledge that there are certain things he shouldn’t do. The idea is that the toxic bath didn’t give the Joker a new personality, it just removed his inhibitions. Tony seems to be the same way--his privilege lets him do whatever he wants without consequences. Examples are Tony ignoring the military to gamble, blowing up mountain ranges, building armor with more destructive power than Apache helicopters, messing with the Infinity Stones twice and building killer AIs. The problem isn't that Stark has so much stuff in his brain--everyone does. The problem is that he’s less restrained in his actions than the Hulk--the Hulk has caused far less damage than Tony Stark’s “genius.”

Note: Set after Iron Man 3.

The head of Arkham Asylum walked along with Pepper Potts and Bruce Banner as they strode the corridors of the Avengers compound. The woman said, “I cannot thank you enough for your support in our efforts to improve our facilities. Hopefully this will keep our patients more secure and give Gotham’s residents a greater feeling of security.” She didn't say how personally relieved she’d be if the criminal lunatics stayed put.

Bruce said, “It was good to test these security measures--it’ll help keep our own lunatic genius under wraps.”

Pepper winced but nodded. She said,”After almost being murdered in my own bed by one of Tony’s inventions, it was obviously time to do something. I can't say I'm surprised with the diagnosis--I do appreciate you consulting on Tony’s case.”

The director nodded and said, “I can understand how you would want to keep this quiet. A billionaire tech genius with his own private arsenal is not a person you want publicly declared insane--not without contingency plans in place.”

They stopped in front of a bank of security screens. On many of them, Tony Stark paced back and forth in a glass cubicle that was part of a larger room.

Clint Barton was overseeing the monitoring team. He said, “We’ve removed Tony from the list of people who can access Jarvis, Stark's AI. We’ve also made sure Jarvis has no access to this facility. Plus Tony will be monitored 24/7.”

Natasha Romanov appeared in the doorway. She said, “We also have considered multiple escape scenarios--and blocked them.”

As Bruce, Pepper, and the doctor looked at the screen, Steve Rogers stepped into the room and said, “We appreciate your assistance, doctor. We have on-site therapists lined up, but it will help to have someone so experienced in this type of mental disorder available.”

The director said, “Anything I can do to help.”

Fortunately for this universe, by the time Tony got his head on straight and recognized that just because he felt like doing something didn't mean he was automatically allowed to do it, the scepter was found, the twins became part of the Avengers, and Thanos was dealt with.

Tony WASN'T pleased to realize Iron Man became a footnote in history.
