Steve was never “wracked with guilt” over “betraying” Tony

Steve apologized for the only thing he felt guilty about--that he didn’t share the rumor about Hydra--and moved on. He certainly did not appear “wracked with guilt” about anything else, particularly refusing to sign the Sokovia Accords and preventing Tony from committing cold-blooded murder. But prop-Tony folks make it sound as though Steve would be wailing and wringing his hands every day, thinking of how poor widdle Tony got his feelings hurt. Not only does that sound very unlikely, it also sounds ridiculous based on Tony's actions for the rest of the films.

Note: Set in an AU where the Accords were quickly repealed and Team Cap is debating returning to America.

During a pause in the discussions, Tony strode over to Cap and said, “No hard feelings.”

Cap looked at Tony and asked, “What are you talking about?”

Tony waved his hands and said, “You know, I figured you were probably staying up nights thinking about it--I just wanted to let you know that I’ve forgiven you. It's time to let it go and have a good night’s sleep.”

Cap frowned and asked again, “What are you talking about?”

Now Tony was looking annoyed. He said, “I figured you had a lot on your mind--like how you betrayed me and how guilty you should you feel about it.”

Tony got the feeling that Cap was trying not to roll his eyes. Natasha actually did as she asked, “Tony, just why do you think STEVE should be feeling guilty?”

Tony frowned and replied, “Because of course he should.”

Sam leaned over and said, “Well I think YOU are the one who should be doling out the apologies and feeling guilty as hell. I know I’M grateful we didn’t have to put up with your hypocritical ass all those months. You’re the one who signed the Accords and broke them--not to mention shooting me for no damn reason at all.”

Scott nodded and said, “I know I would be feeling guilty if I cut off a guy’s arm--especially when I KNEW the guy was innocent.”

Clint said, “I’d be feeling lucky I wasn’t already dead if I had exposed an innocent family to someone like Thaddeus Ross.”

Tony looked at everyone frowning at him and said, “You people are just unreasonable. So long, losers.”

As the others watched Tony storm out of the room, Natasha said, “Well, that’s one way to avoid having to tell him nobody wanted him back in the band.”
