Chapter 18
You couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy as you watched Glynda talking with another woman at the Academy. The two of them were laughing and chatting animatedly, and you couldn't shake the feeling that Glynda was enjoying the other woman's company more than yours.
You tried to push the feeling aside and focus on your own work, but you found your eyes wandering back to Glynda and the other woman. The more you watched them, the more your jealousy grew.
Finally, you couldn't take it anymore. You got up from your desk and walked over to Glynda, forcing a smile onto your face.
"Hey Glynda," you said, trying to keep your voice light. "Who's your friend?"
Glynda turned to you, her expression warm. "Oh, this is Violet. She's a fellow Huntress."
You nodded, feeling a pang of jealousy at the way Glynda was looking at her. You forced yourself to smile again. "Nice to meet you, Violet."
She smiled back at you, seemingly oblivious to the tension in the air. "Nice to meet you too."
The three of you talked for a few more minutes, but you felt like a third wheel the entire time. You couldn't help but compare yourself to Ruby, wondering what it was about her that made Glynda seem so interested.
As soon as the conversation was over, you made your excuses and left, feeling hurt and rejected. It wasn't until later, when Glynda came to find you, that you realized how wrong you had been.
"I'm sorry if I made you feel left out," Glynda said, taking your hand. "But you have to know you're the only one I truly care about. She's just a friend, nothing more."
You felt a weight lift off your chest as Glynda spoke. You knew that you had been silly to let jealousy get the better of you, and you were grateful that Glynda had been so understanding.
"Thank you," you said softly, leaning into her embrace. "I'm sorry for being jealous."
Glynda hugged you tightly. "Don't be sorry," she said. "Just remember that you're the only one I want."
