Prologue - A Fateful Dream
Drip Drip
‘Huh…? What’s that sound…?’
Drip Drip
‘Ah… It’s the sounds of water… Which means…’
My eyes opened, as I gazed up at the full moon which hung above me. The watchful presence in the pitch-black, night sky. Slowly lowering, my head turned from left to right only to see pitch-black darkness all around me and water barely covering the ground. Looking down, I saw that I was standing on top of a massive ocean - bubbles of air rising to create ripples around me. On that watery surface stood my reflection - a female anthropomorphic monkey with fur as silvery white as the moon before me, skin-colored like a coconut outer shell with a pastel pink butterfly facemask around lilac eyes?
‘My eyes… They are cloudy white, not lilac…’
One would normally freak out by now after finding themselves not where they normally should be. But, not to me for such a sight is considered as normal as breathing was. A sight so familiar, but very unexpected. As realization filled me to the brim the moment when I saw myself. I SAW everything…
‘Oh dear, I must be dreaming.’, I thought as my reflection stared back at me in shock.
As my body jerked slightly, causing ripples in the water below my feet. And then I took a deep breath, calming my racing heart before looking back up at the moon.
‘Calm, calm. Hopefully, this is just a normal dream. Hopefully…’
That is when I noticed how close the moon was to the earth, to the ground surface, and me. Its eternal glow covered me, overcasting my body with its gentle light. A sense of wonder and confusion overcame me as I slowly looked down. Standing in front of me was a small pillar of water, gazing back at my reflection in the moving liquid.
Instead of seeing me in the water’s reflection, there stood another anthropomorphic monkey. One with fur as dark as the night sky, dark-tanned skin, a dark red spiky facemask with lilac eyes - one of their eyes was crossed out with a scar-like x and six glowing petal-like ears - each pair with a luminous array of red, blue, and purple colors. Its form flickered and shifted with a purple smoke and blue chains surrounding it.
In the water’s reflection, this monkey’s face appeared so sad and miserable with those strange crackling chains wrapped so tightly around its body.
That sight of the bound monkey made my heart clench in compassion for them - feeling like I had to do something. Anything to soothe their hurt… Their pain… Without thinking, my hand moved slowly from my side as I reached out to the reflection of the mysterious monkey. Holding my palm out to help them… Like a caring friend… But then, their sorrowful expression changed to a furious hostile one, eyes deepening to bright violet. Lips drew back in a ferocious snarl before the monkey in chains lashed out. The sudden strike had picked up the wind, as it was blowing so hard enough to send me off my feet. And causing the water mirror to collapse, drowning me in the watery depths.
As I gasped awake, sitting up in my bed - struggling to breathe, with my tail puffed up in fright behind me.
My chest huffed from untaken breaths of air, my mind still reeling with what my dream presented to me. It took some time for the panic to leave my body, and then some more for my claws to detach from my blanket - already feeling the tears in the soft fabric. As I sat there on my little comforter surrounded by an army of fluffy pillows and blankets. After a while, my heart finally calmed down as I raised my hand to brush a strand of hair from my face. As I looked around…
Seeing nothing, but just a gleaming light in a vast darkness around me. Once more realization and relief with a bit of annoyance hit me like a bag of bricks when I couldn't see anything anymore. Unlike how I could within my dream… With a groan, I flopped back into my comfortable nest. My large sleeping shirt ruffled in the movement, fur messy from sleep. Gazing up at the ceiling as the warm sun’s rays entered my bedroom, covering my body in a golden glow - signaling that a new day has begun.
‘This is the last time that I will eat sweets before bed.’, I thought, ‘At least this time it was a vision instead of a weird, sugar-induced nightmare.’
As the memory of the mysterious black-furred monkey filled my mind, I couldn't help but frown. This is the first time that I have seen another monkey like me, especially within a vision like that.
‘And those blue chains…’
The thought made my eyes narrow… For some reason, the sight of the chains filled me with a sense of caution… They scared me more than the strange monkey itself…
Looks like Destiny has plans… Big ones, this time…
