“For the last time, fool! I am an agent of your government! Grant me entry immediately!” Power had tracked Reze’s scent to inside the employees only area, but was having trouble gaining entry.

“Ma’am for the last time, step back or we will call the devil hunters.” Said the airport security guard with a wavering voice, fear flooding his system as he saw the horned woman in front of him.

“I am a devil hunter, you unwashed plebeian! Open this door or I shall unseam you!” She retorted, forming an ornate rapier with her blood. At this, civilians began to recoil and the guard began to reach for his radio panic button. “A brawl it shall be then…” Power thought to herself, before feeling a strong and familiar grip on her shoulder. “Stand down kid. I’ll take it from here.” Growled Kishibe, desperate to control the situation before a full blown emergency broke out.

“I am Captain Kishibe from Public Safety Devil Hunter Division four. My partner here may be a bit overzealous, but we do need access to this area. We have reason to suspect a soviet spy with a dangerous devil contract is in here.” He put on his best professional voice, pulling out his badge and ID card like a jaded FBI agent in an American police procedural.

“Of course sir, sorry for the mixup.” The flustered guard opened the door and stood to attention.

“That’s really not necessary; at ease…” Kishibe sighed, holding the door to allow Power inside. She dashed in without a second thought, leaving Kishibe to clean up the building PR nightmare she started “Standard Public Safety procedure folks. Go about your business.” He raised his voice ever so slightly so the crowd would hear before walking through the door.

Power refused to engage in any of the human pleasantries, her one track mind narrowing the hallway into a tunnel as her sneakers squealed against the tile. Her frenzied running meant she couldn’t stop in time to avoid slamming her arm into the wall as she wheeled around to look down the stairs.

Both women welled up with tears as they saw each other, Reze stifled a laugh at watching Power crash into the wall, not wanting to ruin the moment. Power barrelled down the stairs, grabbing the other woman with all of her might. “Can we never do that again?” She asked feebly, her words partially muffled as she pressed herself into Reze’s shoulder.

“Do… what?” Reze laughed a little, not understanding her girlfriend’s words.

“Fight, and yell. It feels dreadful, I demand we put a stop to it.” She clarified.

“For an “all powerful devil” you’re a real baby, you know that?” Reze chuckled, thankfully Power was distracting her from the horror that was dealing with Makima, and the overwhelming hopelessness of the situation she now realised she just might escape from.

“This is lovely and all. But I’m afraid we need to get moving.” Growled Kishibe, picking up Reze’s bag from the floor.

“And who the fuck are you?” Reze said with a sneer.

“I’m with public safety. And you’re officially under arrest.” He said, holding up a large notepad that read “Makima is listening. Follow along. I’m trying to help.”. Power nodded to get her to understand. She scowled, but anything was better than being taken in by that witch. But before they led her out of the room, she ran over to the filing cabinet Makima had locked her new favourite knife in “Hey, babe, can you open this? My knife is in here and I can’t move my hands.” She asked. Calling her “babe” felt wrong, but also right. Power felt the same, running over to the cabinet and pocketing the knife. She blushed knowing in spite of their argument she liked her gift so much she wanted to make sure she got it back. Despite being deeply exasperated at how long this was taking, Kishibe couldn’t help but smile a little at the two idiots in love.

Power helped her to her feet, before pretending to push her along. “Go forth, brigand!” She yelled, before whispering in her ear “Don’t be upset, I am just using my incredible acting skills, I am still your doting girlfriend really.” She said, overestimating her acting abilities. She rolled her eyes and played along, pretending to fight a little as the two devil hunters moved her outside and into the backseat of a black car. The windows were tinted, so they’d have some privacy in there. Kishibe got into the driver’s seat, Power and Reze got in the back. As Kishibe started driving, Power pulled out the knife and cut off Reze’s restraints and as soon as the unforgiving plastic was removed from her arms, she pulled Power into a tight hug. “Sorry.” She mumbled.

“I forgive you, I didn’t enjoy the fighting either.” Power said, notedly not apologising.

“I meant sorry for not reciprocating the hug when you found me. We still need to talk about the other thing.” Reze said, she tried to sound serious, but it didn't work.

“Don’t make out in my car.” Kishibe grumbled as he continued driving. Occasionally stopping to take a swig from his flask. After about the fifth sip, Reze started to get concerned.

“Not that I don’t think you can hold your liquor, but maybe you should pull over and let us walk home if you plan on drinking the whole way.” Reze said, her hand firmly in Power’s hand.

“I drunk better when I drive.” Kishibe said facetiously. “And besides, surely back in the Union you saw people put away more than this.” He continued.

“True, but they probably had more training than you did Лошадь мочи.” She cursed at the older man.

“I have no idea what you just said, so I’ll assume I deserved it and just move on. We’ve got a pretty long drive ahead, so I’m gonna list some assumptions I’ve come to about you, you’re gonna confirm if I’m right. Sound fun?” He said sardonically.

“I’ll start, I assume you know nothing, and you’re gonna look like an idiot by the time this is over.” She said with a furrowed brow, Power stroked her thumb over Reze’s hand to reassure her and calm her down a little.

“Well let’s see about that. Number one, you’re a soviet spy engineered by a confidential weapons program. How am I doing so far?” He said, not taking his eyes off the road.

“Pah! Nice try, fool. I think I, the world’s greatest detective, would know if my own girlfriend was a superspy.” Power laughed.

“Wow, you never told her? Some girlfriend you are.” Kishibe said in what most would hesitate to call a laugh, but it was pretty close.

“It never came up.” Reze spat through gritted teeth.

“What? I’m confused.”

“Power, he’s right. I’m an agent from the Soviet Union. I have a contract with the bomb devil. I was sent here to kill Chainsaw Man and I failed.” She confessed everything, which was very unlike her.

“Well, that covers my next assumption. Now then, the dead body in there, that’s a soviet agent who was sent to kill you. Makima killed him. Still correct?”

“Yes.” She said, looking out the window as if it would make being wrong sting less.

“How did you manage to hide this from me? Are you some kind of SUPER super spy?!” Power was genuinely bamboozled at how she’d not immediately found out Reze was a spy.

“I wasn’t hiding it. I told you over and over again I was a fugitive on the run from the Japanese government and you just didn’t listen to me.” She said, almost as exasperated as Kishibe.

“You can hash this out when I have my answers. Now then, this one I’m not so clear on, so forgive me if I’m a little shaky on the accuracy. You came here to kill Chainsaw, and once you failed you decided to schmooze up to Power to get a second chance at offing Denji.” Kishibe accused, hoping the sting would distract them from the fact he’d just left Tokyo’s city limits.

“Wrong. I don’t need Denji anymore. The soviets would still kill me for failing and exposing my identity. They made this very clear. Even if I brought back Denji’s heart on a silver platter garnished with the heads of every member of public safety I could get my hands on, they’d still execute me. I don’t care about any of this now, I want to try and assimilate, maybe take some night classes. And I want to get an apartment and furnish it with tacky crap. I want to do stupid human things.” She said, Power’s heart soared hearing her say that, she wanted to hold her tight, but with how they were sitting in the car that was going to be difficult. And so, for the first time in her life, Power did something subtle. Gently resting her head on Reze’s shoulder. Very briefly, the grimace on Reze’s face disappeared, replaced by a wide, warm smile.

“Well, that’s a curveball. And did you tell Makima this?” Kishibe asked, giving up on the sarcastic game as she noticed Reze’s genuine tone.

“Yes. Although I think I used stronger words. I try to block interactions with her from my mind.” She admitted.

“Heh, don’t we all. I take back everything I said, for a godless commie, you’re alright, kid.” Kishibe chuckled.

“For a capitalist pigdog, you’re not so bad yourself, old man.” She responded, stroking Power’s hair while smiling wider.

“I’ll level with you, my original plan was to drop you off in the countryside, declare you as “not my problem anymore” and leave. But Makima can tell if you’re lying, and provided you’re telling the truth, she might not even see you as a threat anymore. Despite all the precautions I’ve taken, I can’t tell you exactly what I feel about Makima, just in case. But if she proves to be a problem for you, Power knows how to reach me. Unfortunately for me, I’ve grown quite attached to the little shit.” He said, turning the car back around towards Tokyo.

“So we’re going home?” Power asked, excited that she might finally get to hang out with Reze without having to sprint halfway across the city.

“Yeah, I’ll take you home.” Kishibe said, before muttering under his breath “Aki’s gonna be so pissed at me for this.”.

“I demand we get fast food on the way back!” Power yelled.

“I could eat.” Reze seconded.

Kishibe grumbled as he headed for the closest drive through.
