Chapter 2
After the incident everyone agreed that Eline needed a bodyguard.
It was for the best, even if it wasn't her fault.
A week later this bodyguard was due to arrive. For all the drama built by neighbors and old clucking chickens of relatives, it was just going to be a knight. El was very annoyed at her acquaintances for the tension they built around the arrival.
She was still under house arrest for all intents and purposes, so what better way to spend her time being followed around by some poor sap who probably cared less than she did?
Her eyes wandered the horizon for that cursed carriage, hoping whatever knight was sent would be bad at their job. So that she could still have a little freedom
Eline was already waiting outside to greet the knight when she stepped out of the carrage.
And oh- she was short. Not in a casual 5"4' way either; she was irrevocably and inescapably 5".
El's first thought was 'how in the world did she survive training to become a knight?' her second was 'oooh thats how' when she noticed her tail.
There are different kinds of people, you see, there is the most obvious; what you might call normal humans, and then there were slightly smaller folks with tails and a bit inhanced strength; great mountian peoples with skin like wood; winged avians and other hybrid species; and of course elves and dwarfs and the like.
But at the moment we are studying this second species.
They were mostly farmers and herders; keeping to themselves and bothering no one around them. Until one day they attacked a human country. In retaliation that country attacked back, and took over. they since assimilated or spread out, scattered sporadically through the world.
These creatures strength is one of their natural defenses; as they lack size. Many turn to mercenary or other such professions to make a quick coin, but apparently not her.
Out she steps.
Four years of training; three duels to prove her worth; and a silver sword strapped to her waist. A walking enigma and a board mind snapped to attention ath the prospect of something interesting to explore.
Finally something intresting!
