Angel in Blue
I ran my fingers through my dark chocolate thick hair, and sighed heavily replacing back onto the cool leather seats. My cool blue eyes wandered over the forest of towering trees, protecting their world from the bore of this one. I had been inattentive for a while now. Trying to find a job that stimulates my intelligence was indeed proving difficult. I struggled with living alone, and after finishing my teacher training over a year ago straight from university, I have been desperately been searching for somewhere which feels like home. I could never go back to my hometown. My powers are too strong- I’m not like them. But maybe nevermore would be different. Maybe I’ve finally found where I belong.
My younger years consisted of being prodded and poked by every magical professional around trying to figure out my powers and where the intensity came from. There wasn’t any luck- and the more they confined me, the stronger I got. Some sort of catastrophic outcome ended that visit- through tsunami’s and wildfires in the hospital. I have Elemental Mimicry. I can mimic and manipulate a specific natural element. Usually someone with this gift can only mimic one element…I have them all.
The road to nevermore was long and anxious. As I sat in the taxi with my suitcase and bags placed tightly around me, I became apprehensive about my next place here as a teacher of botany.
It had only been two weeks since my interview here, and clear visions of the school protruded my mind. My interview went well, with the principal out of office for a day, my nerves calmed and I felt an urge of relief; I had never met the principal, but heard she was a formidable woman. I wasn’t going to lie that I was a little nervous. Once I had got settled in my hotel for the night, the principal’s PA phones offering the job.
The rolls Royce rolled up to the gates and came to a slow stop.
“Here ya go Miss. That’ll be $40” the driver asked as he stretched out of the car and lugged out my suitcases. Tucking the loose fallen hair behind my ears I nodded and began to rummage through my purse for cash.
“Do you take card? I don’t seem to have any ca-“
“That really won’t be necessary Miss Fern” a smooth voice said with a thick British accent. Just then, a long arm with dark red nail polish handed over the cash to the driver.
I chuckled, and turned around to thank the person who had kindly paid for my taxi service “Ah, thank you so much, you really didn’t have to do tha-“.
I stopped myself as my face fell onto the angel in blue that was in front of me. My eyes were suddenly obsessed. They had a mind of their own roaming this goddesses’ body until my own eyes met with her ocean blue orbs.
She had clearly caught me gawking at her body. She placed a small smirk upon her pale, perfect face. Those lips, bathed in a deep red colour. That smirk. I felt my knees go weak and the heat of my cheeks as I blushed, my eyes desperately avoiding that eye contact and alluring face.
Still smirking, the beautiful stranger spoke again “I’m sure you can repay me in one way or the other…” her eyes looming over me and taking me in and stalking her prey. I awkwardly laughed and quickly rummaged around making sure I had all my belongings surrounding me, all the while I could feel her eyes locked onto every move.
I blushed deeply again. My heart skipped a beat. What an interesting woman she is. My eyes darted between her deep rouge buds and those deep blue galaxies. Stop yourself. She’s getting to know you- being friendly.
“I’m principal Larissa Weems and you are my new botany professor I assume”. She says with a big smile.
Of course she’s the principal. Of course you eyed up your boss.
I nod, and return the smile. “Yes, I’m Ava Fern, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you. I’ve heard lots about you”.
She raises a perfectly groomed eyebrow “oh really? All good I hope?” She says with a wink.
Oh fuck she winked at me. Similar feelings of heat spreading over my face was evident as I twiddled my gold lotus necklace around my neck, adjusting my collar as I went.
“I was indeed pleased to hear that you took the job we offered you. I heard you made quite a impact at the interview here. I only wish I was there myself to see it. I know you already have the governors eating out of your hands” she smiles, her eyes locking with mine, like she’s looking into my soul.
She turns to walk away, her round hips swaying as she moved. Her golden blonde hair was up in a neat Updo, pinned carefully. She must have been over 6 foot tall. She is truly beautiful. I have never seen a woman with such power and presence.
“Please come this way, I’ll get someone to show to you your room. You will be in the staff quarters. Just two rooms down from mine” she said catching those blue orbs to mine. “I have a meeting now, as much as I would like to carry on showing you around. Maybe we can catch up once you’re settled in?”. She said with that smirk on her face again.
“Thank you Principal Weems” I said handing out my hand and smiling sweetly.
She slowly takes my hand in her own, squeezing slightly then slowly letting go. Smiling she whispers “No. Thank you Miss Fern. I shall like to know how you’ve settled into nevermore” she says turning away, then the powerful principal struts away, her head high in the air and the world parting to let her pass.
That strut. Hitching a deep breath in, I watched as principal Weems fell out of my sight. She’s my boss, what am I thinking. I’ve heard she’s extremely professional. I’m definitely making things up. I just need to make a good impression and get settled in. Just do your job Ava- don’t fuck it up for yourself.
