This Rose I Give to You
It was a beautiful sunny morning on the boiling isles, the overcast clouds that seemed to be headed towards them had decided to switch their paths, and the isle was now covered in beautiful sunshine. Everything seemed as double as bright as usual, and the demons seemed to be hidden away for today. All except one demon, yep, you guessed it, King. The little short demon ran around the house like a dog chasing his own tail in the human realm.
"Oh, what a cutie!" Luz cried aloud as the demon ran around her feet. Luz hadn't seemed to realize the time on the clock ticking away as she had been busy gathering more glyph knowledge from Eda and of course, one of her main resources, the library in the back of the Owl House.
She glanced over at her watch, cautiously, knowing that she was, once again, extremely late. Luz made a run for it. She grabbed her cloak, without even buttoning it up on her shoulders, almost forgetting her phone on the couch. This can't be happening. Not again! You told her you wouldn't be late, Noceda!
Luz came to a sudden halt in front of the gaming court of Hexide. It was a Saturday, and although the students of Hexide didn't have school on this very day, they did have a Grudgby game that had been long-awaited. Luz scanned the bleachers for a certain green-haired witch. Aha! Found you! She hurried through the crowds of witches, and other creatures on the bleachers, shoving some on the way and frantically apologizing to them.
"LUZ! OVER HERE! I'M HERE!!" Amity yelled as she saw Luz coming towards her. She was aware she had most likely strained her voice, but what was she to do? It was very important for the human to hear her and she didn't know how perceptive human's ears were.
"Luz!! You're finally here! What took you so long?!" Amity cried as Luz sat down next to her, out of breath. Luz looked over the green-haired witch's shoulder, seeming to be looking at nothing in particular.
"I'm sorry, Ammy. I just didn't realize the time." Luz switched her gaze over to meet with Amity's honey-gold eyes.
"Well, I surely expect my girlfriend to be on time!"
"I know, Amity. I'm sorry."
"You always say you're sorry..this is the 3rd time this week, Luz."
Luz rubbed the back of her neck, as she sighed. Sure, she had anticipated Amity being mad, but surely not this frustrated. For the rest of the match, the two young witches sat in utter silence, resigned to their own stubbornness. Neither daring to say a word more for fear of regret.
The final goal was made, and Boshca's team won yet again in the tournament.
"WOOHOO!! GO BOSHCA!! GO GO, HEXIDEEEE!!!" It was whoops and cheers all around the bleachers. Except if you zoomed in just enough, you would've seen two girls staring longingly at each other when the other wasn't looking but neither daring to speak.
I messed up.. that's what they both thought as everyone was getting up to leave. Their goodbyes were very strained and dense, more formal than anything before. It hadn't even been this bad when Amity thought Luz was a bully and had caught her and the twins with her diary.

Amity plopped down on her bed. creakkk! went the old bed frame she had been too lazy to change since she was 10. The truth was, Amity Blight, was exhausted. 'From what?' you may ask. Well, for one, her parents were being absolutely insufferable. Ever since they had found out she was attracted to girls, they had been harder than ever on her. Not even the straight A's, and extra work she did was enough for them anymore.
She felt disowned and at odds with them. Although she didn't get along with her siblings most of the time, Ed and Em had proven to be the world's greatest siblings by being at her side once she had told their parents. It really didn't help that she had also mentioned that she had a girlfriend.
Ever since that late autumn night, her mom had been trying to figure out who it was. Amity had no clue for what she would need such information but all she knew was, she was scared enough to be 6 feet under. Amity shook her head and tried to get ahold of herself. There's no use in pitying yourself, Blight. Just get over it.
You see, even though her parents were a huge thorn in her side, that wasn't what she was mainly worried about. Recently, Luz and she had been getting into more arguments. All ending worse than the last. At this point, Amity was losing hope, and her positivity was none to little. Don't get her wrong, though, she absolutely loves Luz to bits, but the reoccurring fights made her have second thoughts if Luz was suitable enough for a relationship.
Amity let out a rather big sigh. It was definitely not her year. She went over to her dresser, which to her surprise, still had pictures of her and Luz from the day they had spent at the beach in the human realm. Amity ran one short, black painted nail over one of the pictures, reminiscent about her time with her girlfriend. Amity sighed once again, but this time, she knew what she had to do.
Amity's pride was long forgotten as she messaged her girlfriend the next few words on her crystal ball.
Luz, please meet me in the forest. We need to talk.
oh, alright then. See you in 15, Ammy.
Amity was quite nervous. Even though she seemed tough and cold on the outside, she absolutely hated confrontation, in any sense, which in this case, included talking it out with her girlfriend. Saying Amity was anxious was an understatement, she was way more than anxious. She sat down on the green grass and lent against an oak tree, trying to relax. Just five more minutes until Luz gets here.
Luz grabbed her signature cat sweater, it seemed to have a few holes in it that was covered in patches but no one really ever realized unless they looked at it up close. Eda was a wizard at sewing, or should I say, witch. Luz raced out of the Owl House, almost tripping over the steps.
"Where are you hoot off to? hoot hoot " Questioned the wooden owl on the door as Luz attempted to fix her loose shoe.
"Nowhere you need to know, Hooty. I'll be back by tomorrow at the latest."
"How hoot rude!" Complained the wooden owl, quite offended at Luz's attempt to avoid his question.
Luz made her greatest attempt yet to walk as quickly as she could. Of course, she would've run but the ground was still wet from the rain two days before. Luz was frantic, she knew that she needed to apologize to Amity right away. The question was, how would she do that?
In the middle of her speed walking, Luz spotted a rose bush. Usually, Luz wouldn't have dared to touch them or even get close to the rose bush but the house seemed to be abandoned, to which her relief, meant she could cut a rose. Luz quickly made a fire glyph in her notebook and cut the rose from the bush. Perfect!
Luz had made it just in time. That's a first, She thought to herself. The young Hispanic girl smiled at her girlfriend and sat down on the patch of grass next to her.
"Hey!" Amity said with quite a delight. "You made it! And just on time too!" She smiled from ear to ear at Luz, melting the young Hispanic heart. Luz smiled back, the most truthful smile she had ever given to anyone.
"I'm glad you're happy. Look, I was hoping we could Uhm, talk." Luz stared at her shoes, quite unsure of the outcome her words would have on Amity. Amity looked over to Luz, with much understanding in her eyes, and her features relaxed.
"Of course we can talk." Amity grabbed Luz's soft, tanned, hand and stared into her lover's eyes. She knew at that moment that whatever happened, she never wanted Luz to be out of her life. That she would do anything in her power, just to have her in her life. Even as a friend.
Amity shook her head slightly, pushing away the thoughts of darkness. She had newly regained hope that she would fix her differences with Luz. After all, they said love conquered anything, right?
Luz turned around, moving her body to be facing Amity. "Amity...I'm sorry." Luz sighed and let go of Amity's hand, rubbing her face in distress and apologetically.
"I'm sorry about..everything. I should be able to manage my time better, and I know you deserve way more time and attention than I put in."
"Luz...I'm still a bit mad about you always being late, but I understand you have things going on. We all do! And I won't chastise you for that, baby girl." • I was going to change it but it's too funny •
"Yes, I know but it's not fair, and that's why I've been thinking.."
"You've been thinking what exactly?" Amity inquired. She was starting to get a bit agitated. The beginning of Luz's sentence wasn't quite comforting as she expected.
"I've been thinking and, I want to make a promise to you, Amity."
"A promise? About what?"
Luz lost herself in the eyes of her lover, once again that night. She abruptly looked away towards her pocket then proceeded to pull something out. Amity looked curiously, trying to figure out what Luz could have up her sleeve.
"Turn around, Ammy. No looking!" Chastised Luz as she saw Amity trying to peek a look.
"Ahh, fine fine!! Just hurry up, will you!" Responded Amity filled with quite the unusual curiosity for such witch of her caliber.
Luz suddenly tapped Amity on the shoulder, signaling to her it was time to look. When Amity opened her eyes, she felt the world slow. All she could see was the beautiful girl in front of her, and then she noticed the white rose in Luz's hand.
The young hispanic's hand was open, with the rose laid out on her palm, facing towards Amity herself. Amity was in absolute shock. Sure, Luz was romantic from time to time but mostly on special occasions, she had grabbed Amity quite off gaurd today.
"Luz..the rose is beautiful." gasped out Amity even though she was still in shock. She picked up the rose and looked at it with the most affectionate look anyone would ever see on Little Miss Perfect.
Luz looked into Amity's bright, honey-gold eyes, which seemed full of wonder and affection, all reserved for her to see. She found the courage inside her and said what she had been dying to say the past few days of this short-lived torture.
"Amity Blight, I promise you that I'll always try. I will always be here for you, in dark times and in bright times. In poverty and wealth, and whenever you need me. I promise to be your knight in shining armor. Your partner in crime. The jelly to your peanut butter. My point is, Amity, I love you and I'll always try my very hardest to be there for you."
Luz was in pure shock that she had managed to say all that she meant without a shake in her voice, although she was talking to the love of her life, even if she didn't know it at the time. Amity looked at Luz with the most affectious look Luz had ever seen before. Is she..crying?
"Luz! I love you so much, oh god! Look at me! A total mess!!" Cried the young green-haired witch as she wiped away her tears and nose with her shirt sleeve like it was a tissue. Amity was about to open her mouth yet again, to make sure that Luz knew that she appreciated what she'd said so much when Luz herself decided to intervene with more to say.
"Amity, I give this rose to you..as a promise to always be the things you deserve." Luz made eye contact with Amity, quite nervously. The next thing the young girl knew, she was being pulled in, lips touching softly, yet fiercely and passionately.
Luz felt her face heat up and her heart skip a few beats. She looked over to Amity who seemed to be no better, as her face was still bright red, and seemed to be shocked with herself. Oh well, Amity would have to get used to that. After all, they will spend the rest of their life together.
