Big Reveal
Penny woke when the mattress dipped under a weight, she slowly opened her eyes to the hotel’s penthouse suite. Nemona was standing next to the bed, she must’ve been the weight. Why was Penny in Nemona’s bed though?
“Sorry,” Nemona smiled apologetically, “You fell asleep in my bed and I didn’t want to wake you, so I just let you sleep!”
Penny blinked a little, “Oh, it’s…fine.”
Nemona almost deflated, fidgeting with her fingers and nervously rocking on her feet. It was kind of weird to Penny, Nemona always seemed so together and headstrong and confident. Maybe they were more alike than different.
“Do you want to get breakfast?” Nemona’s brilliant smile returned and Penny’s thoughts were temporarily quieted.
The considered for a moment, realizing that she’d have to call as Cassiopeia soon, “I’ll eat here, do you…do you have somewhere to be?”
“Well,” Nemona smiled, “Someone commissioned me to defeat all of the Team Star leaders!”
“Oh?” Penny panicked momentarily, did Nemona know? How would she know?
Nemona smiled, “Yeah, their name is Cassiopeia. We’d make a really cool friend group!”
Penny was shocked, “friend group” ? Nemona didn’t know, didn’t know that Penny and Cassiopeia were the same person. She thought they were just some random bullied kid. For some reason Penny didn’t want that anymore. They wanted to tell Nemona, tell her that they were Cassiopeia.
They were spiraling quickly, outcomes seemingly swirling around them. At some point she had begun sobbing, tears wracking their body. Nemona inches slowly toward her, not that Penny noticed.
“Hey,” Nemona carefully set her hands on Penny’s shoulders, “Do you need anything? I’m sorry for making you uncomfortable. Just breathe with me okay?”
Nemona’s deep breaths slowly merged with Penny’s, Penny managed to pull themselves from their head slowly but surely.
“I’m…sorry, sorry for freaking out like that.” Penny snuffled slightly.
Nemona blinked, “I’m the one who should be apologizing! Don’t worry Penny you don’t have to be in a friend group with me and Cass.”
Penny abruptly through caution to the wind, she didn’t want Cassiopeia and Penny to hold each other back anymore. They didn’t want Nemona to pull away, Penny didn’t want to ruin another friendship. Not after the “friendship” disaster of Team Star.
“I’m Cassiopeia.” Penny rushed her face flushing with heat.
The bed creaked as Nemona pulled back, her eyes wide with shock, “What?”
