Quitting Time

Adora wakes up in the middle of the bed, Catra’s bed. Still wrapped in the softest and fluffiest blankets she’s ever felt in her life and she can only smile to herself as she breathes in the scent of Catra’s bed. But then she frowns a little. Catra’s not in the bed. Heck, where is she? Adora reluctantly rolls over and onto her back as she lets herself wake up a little more before pulling back the blankets and then getting out of the huge bed. She picks up her phone that Catra must have plugged in for her when she woke up and checks the time. 7.12am. The sun has only just risen, and the daylight slowly lights the room up as Adora yawns and rubs at her eyes before heading to the bathroom. She really needs a shower.
She steps out of the bedroom and looks around Catra’s place, but the CEO is not here. Weird. She’s not a morning person, so where could she be. Foregoing her shoes, she makes her way out of Catra’s place, not caring that she’s about to step back into the DE office space. It’s not like there’s anyone that comes up here apart from Scorpia and Entrapta. As soon as she closes the door behind her and walks towards Catra’s office, she notices the CEO’s door shut and there’s the sound of talking inside. Swiping her card to let herself in, she stops in her tracks in surprise.
“Hello, Adora.” Angella turns around at the interruption, “You look, well rested.”
There’s a knowing smile on the older woman’s lips as she looks over Adora’s post wake up state. Catra chuckles from the background, seated in her chair behind her desk, “You okay there, Adora?”
Knowing she’s turning red by how hot it suddenly feels, she nods to Angella and then makes a quick exit back to the ‘Supplies’ door only to realise that she can’t actually get back in without Catra’s key. She groans at having to go back into Catra’s office, but does hesitantly whilst smoothing down her bed hair and whatever she can do with the sleep clothes Catra gave to her last night.
“Morning.” Adora manages to say as she goes back into the office, noticing that neither Angella nor Catra have continued their conversation since she barged in the first time, “Um, hi Mrs Moon.”
“Call me Angella, Adora.” Angella smiles, “You don’t need to be so formal when we aren’t in public.”
“Oh, right.” Adora throws a few finger guns at the woman before grimacing a little at herself, “Uh, what are you doing here?”
Angella stands from the seat across from Catra and moves towards Adora, “Catra invited me here.” She places a hand on Adora’s shoulder and gently squeezes, “How have you been? I’m sorry I haven’t been able to check up on you personally, but my daughter is quite adamant that you are doing well in the hands of Catra.”
Adora blushes harder from hearing that and she has to clear her throat, “It’s okay. I know you are busy.” The blonde starts as she looks at Catra who is just sitting back grinning at her, “Catra has been really supportive since the… incident.”
“Yes. I will need to speak to you at some point as well regarding said incident.” Angella tells her seriously, “But, there might be chance that you will not need to provide a testimony in that case or in Catra’s arrest case.”
“Catra’s arrest case?”
“Yeah, the cops think I was involved in your kidnapping for some stupid reason.” Catra provides still grinning, “But the 2 detectives I spoke to seemed to be on my side. So, hopefully it’ll go through to the keeper and I won’t need to be brought before a judge.”
“What are they charging Catra with?” Adora asks as Angella goes back to her seat, “I can testify and tell them she had nothing to do with it. If anything, it was DE that rescued me.”
“That, will not be necessary, Adora.” Angella replies calmly, “There is no substance to those charges. The confession from their leader was the icing on the cake. But it’s good to know that we were right about DE.”
“What!?” Adora exclaims, “What do you mean?”
Angella shakes her head with a chuckle, “At first, we thought that DE was going to be another branch of Horde Tech. Here to make weapons and biowarfare. But I’ve had an inkling that this wasn’t going to be the case.”
“Damn straight!” Catra cuts in.
Angella rolls her eyes at her, “As I was saying, we had an inkling that DE wasn’t going to venture into that field. But we couldn’t be sure. So, we sent you in to confirm our suspicions.”
“But…” Adora’s eyes go back and forth between Angella and Catra, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Adora.” Angella’s voice turning more motherly than boss, “We both know you aren’t the best at lying.” And then muttering under the breath, “Even if it is a big part of your job…”
“What was that?” Adora perked up, not quite catching what Angella had said.
“I just said it wasn’t necessary for you to know that.” The older woman raised an eyebrow in a challenge, “Am I wrong?”
Adora scoffs as Catra snorts back a laugh, earning herself a glare from the blonde, “Shut it, Cat.” Before focusing back on Angella, “Was my kidnapping part of this as well?”
Angella sighs, “No, that I am sorry about.”
“You’re sorry?” Adora breathe out angrily, “What else are you keeping from me?”
“Nothing.” Angella replies quickly, “Which is why I am here.”
Turning to Catra, Adora asks, “When did you even have time to arrange this meeting?”
“I can do more than one thing at a time, princess.” Catra grins before her face stills and her eyes dart over Angella, “Uh, I mean, Adora.”
Angella narrows her eyes at Catra for a moment before breaking out in a laugh, “You 2 are ridiculous.”
“What? I am not!” Catra stands from her chair in protest, “That was… just…”
“Oh, save it Catra.” Adora crosses over to Catra and sits on her lap, “It’s not exactly like we’re good at hiding this.”
“I’m not hiding anything.” Catra replies with a huff before wrapping her arms around the blonde’s waist and rubbing her cheek on her back, “I don’t hide.”
Adora giggles as Catra’s fingers tickle her sides before hearing Angella clear her throat. The blonde tries to move off Catra’s lap only for the other woman to hold her firmly in place. Adora glares a little at Catra’s antics before eventually leaning back into the CEO’s arm, “Can I ask why you are here then?”
“Yes.” Angella smiles watching the 2 of them on the one chair, “Though, I did not foresee this happening…”
“Foresee what happening?” Adora asks innocently.
“You two…” Angella smirks, “This is definitely not something we factored in.”
“Okay…” Catra replies, “So, can we get back to our meeting?”
Angella nods, “Adora? I don’t believe you are required for this meeting.”
“What!?” Adora says, “Whatever you have to say, I should get to hear it too.”
Catra squeezes Adora’s waist and then releases the blonde, “She’s right, babe.” Adora pouts as she gets off Catra’s lap, “I need to speak to Angella privately about some other matters. I hope you won’t mind.”
Adora leans up against the desk, still pouting, “Are you sure? I could help.”
“I’m sure.” Catra replies as she stands and presses a kiss on Adora’s cheek, “Why don’t you go and get some breakfast or something. Take a shower. Whatever you want. It’s still early and you don’t start work for another…” She looks at the time on her watch, “Hour.”
“I can’t go home. I won’t be able to make it back in time.” Adora sighs.
Catra pulls a key out of her pocket and places it into Adora’s hand, “Here.” Adora looks down at the singular key in confusion, “I was planning to give it to you later, but you might as well have it now.”
“What is this?”
“It’s a key for the supplies door.” Catra replies softly.
For a moment it doesn’t click in the blonde’s brain until she gasps, “Catra… is this a key to your place?”
Catra nods once.
A wide grin spreads over Adora’s face, “I can’t believe you are giving me full access to your place.”
“You basically live here anyways, princess.” Catra replies, “I mean, when was the last time you slept in your bed peacefully?”
“What? No, I’ve slept in my own bed.” Adora argues.
“I know you have.” Catra shakes her head with a sigh, “But every morning you come in after, you look like shit.”
“Hey!” Adora pouts, “That’s not true.”
“Yes. It is.” Catra replies softly not trying to start an argument, “This is the first morning I’ve seen you where you look like you’ve actually rested, Adora.”
“Well… well, your bed is just so comfortable.” Adora spits out before she realises that Angella is still in the room.
Catra chuckles at the blonde’s reaction, “I don’t think Angella is really going to care where you sleep as long as you are getting a good night’s sleep.” Angella nods in Catra’s direction, “So, just take the key I’m giving to you and go take a shower or whatever it is you need.”
Adora sighs, knowing she’s lost the argument and nods, “Okay.”
As she exits Catra’s office, Catra adds, “There’s spare toothbrushes in the draws in the bathroom. I hung an extra towel up in there for you as well. Though at some point, you’ll need to get some fresh clothes.”
Turning around, looking back to Catra, “Should I move in now or later?”
The smirk on Adora’s face makes Catra grin, “Whatever you want, babe.” Catra replies as she waves the blonde off, “Go. Now. Sparkles mum and I need to talk.”
“Fine.” Adora huffs as she makes her way back out of the office and shuts the door behind her.
Once Adora has left the room, Catra turns back to Angella, “So, Prime.”

Adora has never been in such a luxurious shower like this in her life. The water pressure and temperature has her moaning in approval as she stands under the flow of water with her eyes closed. She can’t even remember the last time she took her time in the shower and not rushed between a workout and getting ready for work. Eventually she manages to pull herself out of the shower and towel off, marvelling at how soft the towel is on her body and then using the same towel to wrap around her body as she steps back into the bedroom to get dressed.
“Oh, wow…” Catra says in surprise seeing Adora in just a towel, “Sorry, I just needed to grab my, uh…”
Adora cocks an eyebrow as she watches Catra’s eyes rake over her body, “What did you need?” the blonde smirks, “Or did you find something else?”
Catra snaps out of her stupor and glares at the blonde playfully, “I did, yes. But that is not why I came in here.” Catra walks over to the blonde, backing Adora up against the bed until the back of her knees knock the mattress and she sits down on it, Catra presses a quick kiss on Adora’s lips before pulling back and smirking at the dazed blonde, “Thanks, I just needed to grab my notebook.”
“What…?” Adora’s eyes flutter back open, seeing the smug look on Catra face as she pouts, “Ugh! You are the worst!”
Catra snorts as she pecks Adora on the lips, “I have to get back to my meeting.” Before running her eyes over Adora’s towel covered body, “Mmm… you should probably get dressed, princess. Don’t want to be late for work, do we?”
Adora grins and pulls Catra down on top of her, giggling when Catra yelps in surprise, “I believe we didn’t finish the movie last night.”
“Nope. Try again tonight?” Catra smiles into Adora’s chest before reluctantly pushing herself off, “But, I really need to get back to that meeting with Angella.”
“Ugh, fine.” Adora pouts, “What do you want me to do today? Have you heard back from Entrapta?”
Shaking her head, Catra replies, “Not yet. But she’s close from the rambling report she gave me in a voice mail.”
“Okay.” Adora lies back onto the mattress, flat on her back, drumming her fingers on her chest, “Guess I can go over the documents again…”
Catra stops at her door and watches as Adora thinks about how to pass the time, “Go get some breakfast Adora. Be a good EA and bring me back a coffee.”
“Ha!” Adora scoffs, “I am not your EA. Not anymore.”
“You are until this mole thing is over, princess.” Catra smirks, “Please?”
“Ugh.. fine.” Adora concedes, “But I’m going lie in your bed for another half hour before I get up.”
“Sure. Whatever you want.” Catra laughs, “Take your time.”
Adora props up on her elbows to see Catra leaning up against the door frame, “What?”
“Nothing…” Catra replies to Adora’s questioning eye, “I was wondering if you’d be able to pick my suit up from the tailors….”
Raising her eyebrow at Catra, “You want me to see your outfit for the ball?”
“Yes?”
“And… you’re okay with that?”
“Yes?” Catra begins shuffling on the spot, “I mean, if you have time to do it.”
“Of course I have time.” Adora huffs, “It’s not like I’ve got anything else to do until Entrapta is done analysing the chip.”
Catra nods once, “Thanks, Adora.”
Adora plops back down on the bed, not caring that her wet hair is on the bed as she huffs to herself. She hears the door shut and then closes her eyes.

Adora returns a little before midday with Catra’s DE ball formal wear and a cup of lukewarm coffee for Catra, dumping the clothes on Catra’s desk along with the coffee cup. The CEO quirks an eyebrow at the blonde who just smiles at her innocently.
“What did you do?” Catra asks suspiciously, “You sure did take your time picking up a few clothes and a coffee.”
“Mm…” Adora hums as she takes a seat on the couch, “How was the rest of your meeting with Angella?”
Catra takes a sip from the coffee Adora had brought her and winced a little at the sudden coldness of the drink, swallowing it harshly, “Yeah, it was good. Turns out Prime and Shadow Weaver are both out on parole. Which is complete utter bullshit.”
“Oh.” Adora replies as she gets up and pats a reassuring hand on Catra’s shoulder, “That’s… that’s not good.”
“No. It’s really not fucking good.” Catra seethes as she squeezes Adora’s hand, “How the fuck did they get out in the first place? Pretty sure they are meant to have life sentences for the multiple lives they fucking took.”
“What did Angella say?”
“They got off on some technicality.” Catra says in a mocking tone, “Unbelievable…”
Adora pulls on Catra to stand up and the smaller woman groans as she does it, letting out a sigh as Adora wraps her arms around her, “Hey. It’ll be okay. You’ll get through this.”
“We’ll get through this.” Catra corrects, “You’re one of us now, whether you like it or not. I’ve…” Catra groans again, “I’m sorry… I’ve put a target on your back too.”
Adora sighs, “This is not your fault, Catra.” The whispered assurance doesn’t seem to quell Catra, so Adora squeezes her arms around her a little tighter, “Horde Tech are the ones at fault. They need to pay. And, and what they did to you, Scorpia and Entrapta, well, I’m not going to let that stand.”
“Big, tough words, princess.” Catra teases with a sigh, “Didn’t stop them from getting the jump on you, did it?”
“Okay, that wasn’t a fair fight.” Adora pulls back to protest.
“They don’t fight fair.” Catra flatly replies, “They never have.”
“So… what do we do?” Adora asks with uncertainty, “Are we still waiting for Entrapta’s results?”
Catra shakes her head, “No, we got them.”
“That’s great! Right?”
“Yeah, it is.” Catra replies with a small smile, “That’s what the meeting with Angella was about.”
“I thought you said you hadn’t received any information from Entrapta yet…” Adora frowned at the lie, “What else are you keeping from me?”
“I had to and I’m sorry I did.” Catra looks at Adora with sincerity, “But Angella insisted.”
“Uh huh.” Adora scoffs, “Anything else?”
“Yeah.” Catra rubs the back of her head, “I don’t know if I’m supposed to tell you this…”
“Just tell me.” Adora groans as she throws her head back in annoyance at being left in the dark, “I can take care of myself.”
“I know you can.” Catra sighs again, “Okay. It’s all going to go down at the DE ball.”
“Okay.” Adora takes a seat back on the couch, “Tell me what’s the plan.”

The DE core group (aka Super Pal Trio and Adora) all meet up in Catra’s office, Scorpia bringing in a few boxes of pizza as they all sit around and enjoy their Friday night dinner and drinks.
Halfway through a bite, Adora turns to Entrapta, “How did they get out? Like, what technicality did they use?”
The scientist is busy cutting her slice into smaller pieces as she answers, “Their lawyer managed to come up with some bogus witness and the judge seemed to eat it up.”
“Are you saying that the judge was bribed?” Adora asks, “Surely that’s not allowed.”
“No. It definitely is not allowed.” Entrapta answers with a frown, “So, we are moving up the plan to the DE ball to put them back in prison.”
“Here, here.” Scorpia chants, “They don’t deserve freedom. Ever.”
“Calm down big gal.” Catra throws a piece of pepperoni at her friend with a grin, “We’ll get them.”
Scorpia throws a topping back at Catra and grins, “Yes, we will!”
Adora chuckles at the exchange between the 2 of them, “So, is everything set for the ball?”
“Oh, yes. It’s all ready and in place.” Entrapta replies as she finally starts to eat her small cut up pieces of pizza, “The outcome is looking 82% in our favour.”
“And, what of the other 18%, Traps?” Catra asks as she wipes her hands on her pants much to the disgust of Adora, “What have we not encountered for?”
“General variables.” Entrapta replies, “We can’t control people, Catra.”
“Right…” Catra replies as she picks up another piece, “And all the people involved are all above board?”
“Yes.” Entratpa answers with a grin, “Hordak and I did background checks on everyone involved. Oh, Adora?”
“Yeah?” Adora asks wiping her mouth with a napkin.
“Your friends, Glimmer and Bow have requested to come to the ball as well. What should I tell them?” Entrapta asks as she pops another piece into her mouth as Adora thinks about whether she wants her friends in direct danger. Taking the silence for an answer, Entratpa continues, “I can strike them from the guest list if you would rather not have them there.”
“No. Keep them on the guest list please.” Adora finally answers, “They’ve been looking forward to getting dressed up to the nine’s ever since I told them about it.”
Catra snorts, “And they just assumed they’d be invited?”
“Kind of…” Adora fidgets nervously with her napkin, “They were pretty excited when I told them that DE held a ball every year. And surprise! They knew that already.” Adora took a breath, “Apparently your’ not so secret’ annual balls are quite exclusive.”
“That is true.” Entrapta agrees.
“Hey, Wildcat.” Scorpia opens the pizza box closest to her, “What are you going to be wearing?” The sly look on the other woman’s face asking the question doesn’t go unnoticed, “Ooh, are you coordinating your look with Adora?”
A blush comes over Adora’s face as she tries to hide behind her slice of pizza as Catra chuckles at the reaction. Entrapta has even looked up in amusement when Catra answers, “Does it matter?”
“I don’t believe it does.” Entrapta replies before Scorpia could, “I will be attending in my best overalls with Hordak.”
Catra snorts, “You mean, the less stained ones?”
“Exactly!”
Groaning, Scorpia shakes her head at the pair before turning to Adora, “Can you please make sure she doesn’t come to the ball in cargo shorts and a hoodie? We have some investors and other high-profile people coming this year and I would rather have the CEO trying to make an effort.”
The emphasis on CEO from Scorpia makes Adora chuckle as the blonde turns to Catra, “You went to the DE ball dressed like…this?”
Catra looks down at her attire, okay, sure it was exactly what Scorpia had just described, but, so what? It’s comfy and she wasn’t going to be meeting any clients or anyone else from the business world today so what was the point of dressing up just to be in her own office? When she stops doing a self assessment on herself, Catra grins and looks Adora up and down, “I see I’ve made an impact on you with my fashion sense too.”
That’s when Adora suddenly realises that apart from the black slacks, she’s basically dressed down as well, and has been for the entire day, “Hey! I don’t really work for you, remember?” She throws an olive at Catra who manages to catch it in her mouth, “And, you said that you had no meetings today.”
“Sure princess.” Catra chews the olive slowly in her mouth, “Whatever you say.”
Adora rolls her eyes with a smile, “I do say.”
“Am I ever get my clothes back from you?” Catra asks with a raised eyebrow.
“Mm…” Adora pretends to think, “No. I think I’m going to keep them. As a souvenir for working here.”
Catra grins as she watches Adora nuzzle into the fabric of the hoodie and it makes her heart melt at the sight, well, every time Adora’s around makes her stomach feel funny, but this particular moment she digs her toes into the floor just so she doesn’t pounce on the blonde. Eventually Catra clears her throat, “You can keep them. They’re all yours.”
“Besides, I reckon you like it when I wear your clothes.” Adora stills after saying that as she realises again that they aren’t alone, “Uh, yeah, not giving them back.”
Laughing, Catra shakes her head, “That’s fine, princess. I like you in my clothes.”
“Okay…” Scorpia cuts in, as she turns back to Adora, “Deal? Make sure Wildcat here is in a suit and shoes. I cannot stress enough the need for her to wear shoes.”
Adora giggles as she reminisces back to the first time she met the CEO, “Oh, don’t worry. I already picked her suit up from the tailors the other day.”
“Oh, that reminds me, I picked up Adora’s dress yesterday.” Scorpia informs Catra, “I left it in my office. I can go get it after.”
“I could get it.” Adora offers a little too eagerly, “I mean, I’m pretty much done here now. It wouldn’t be a problem.”
“No, it’s okay, Adora.” Scorpia chuckles at the blonde’s enthusiasm, “Pretty sure you aren’t supposed to see it yet anyways, right Wildcat?”
“Yes.” Catra replies as she finishes off her slice and wipes her hands on her pants again, “Sorry, Adora. But you are going to have to wait just a little longer.”
Adora pouts but nods, “So, how are preparations going for the ball?”
“DT has everything covered. This is the only job they do all year.” Catra replies, “So, in that respect, we’ve got nothing to worry about.”
“I don’t think I’ve met DT.” Adora thinks aloud.
“Trust me, it’s better that way.” Catra scoffs, “They are worse than Huntara.”
“Maybe you ought to get HR onto that? Create some actual policies or a code of conduct?” Adora suggests, “Is there even a HR department here?”
“Yes. There is.” Entrapta answers, “Right?”
Catra shakes her head with a chuckle, “Yes, we have a HR department.”
“Exactly what does your HR team do around here?” Adora asks as she crosses her leg over her other leg, “I mean, Scorpia basically did my entire induction.”
“Hey! Don’t talk about Scorpia’s girlfriend like that.” Catra teases, “Perfuma is… well, more about making sure employees are happy and conflict resolution.”
“She does more than that and you know it.” Scorpia huffs, “She was just busy when you started Adora.” The large woman justified, “There was the incident… she had to deal with it. If you weren’t working directly for Catra, I’m sure she would have been the one to show you around.”
“Oh, okay.” Adora sighs, “Makes sense, I guess.”
Scorpia gets up, placing the napkin she used to wipe her hands with, in the empty pizza box, “I’ll be right back with Adora’s dress.”
Adora watches Scorpia leave the office, staring at her as she leaves, “Little eager there, princess.”
The blonde turns her head quickly to catch Catra’s smirk, “Shut up.”
Entrapta shoots Catra her own amused look, “I was right about her.”
“What?” Adora perks up, “Right about who?”
Before Catra can stop Entrapta from answering, the scientist replies, “You. I was right about you.”
Adora looks to Catra for answers, only to be met with the CEO shaking her head and leaning her head on the desk, “I, uh, I don’t understand.”
“My hypothesis about you and Catra.” Entrapta takes another slice of pizza and begins to cut it up into smaller pieces again, “My data from before you started suggested a 90% compatibility, despite the fact that Catra can be at times, not the best to work with.”
“Hey!” Catra’s head props up before going back down onto her arms on the desk, “That… I guess is true.”
Adora giggles, “You don’t make the best first impression…”
“Exactly!” Entrapta agrees before she throws a piece of her pizza at Catra’s head, “I told you my experiments had merit.”
“How is that… ugh!” Catra groans, “Whatever. There was no reason for this compatibility test and you know it. Also, stop hacking into my computer.”
The purple haired scientist pouts, “But it worked…” she whined, “Besides, it didn’t stop you from stalking her online, did it?”
“You what?” Adora almost shouts, “You stalked me online?”
“Uh…” Entrapta finally catches up on and her situation awareness catches up, “Oh, was she not supposed to know?”
“No…” Catra grumbles from behind her desk, slinking down off her chair to hide under it, “She was not supposed to know.”
“Why were you stalking me online?!” Adora asks more out of amusement than anger at her online privacy being invaded, “What exactly were you looking for?”
From under the desk, Catra leans against the drawers on the right, “I was just making sure you were who you are.”
“What does that mean?” Adora snorts.
“Nothing!” Catra huffs as Entrapta chuckles as she takes another bite of her pizza, “I needed a PI to look into the mole situation and you seem like the best candidate.” Catra’s head emerged slowly from under the desk to glare at Entrapta, “Was I wrong?”
“No.” Entrapta answers happily.
“Good.” Catra gets back into her chair avoiding looking at Adora.
“What else did your data say about me?” Adora asks Entrapta with a smirk.
“Only that you and Catra would get along, positively.” Entrapta replies as the door opens and Scorpia slips in with a garment bag in her arms, “You seem to have a very positive influence on Catra and her mood. And that has been very good for me as it means I’m not being interrupted as often.”
Adora laughs at that statement as Catra groans loudly, “I have to interrupt you when you send me emails and work updates with fire in the background or when you’ve sent everything in caps.” She looks at Scorpia to take her mind off the current conversation, “Is that the dress?”
“Yep.” Scorpia beams, “I can’t believe you have such good taste in clothes but you dress yourself like that.”
“Whatever…”
“Can I see it?” Adora hopefully asks.
“No, Adora.” Catra grins, biting her bottom lip with her fangs, “But you can put it away in my closet for me.”
Adora pouts, “Fine. Gimme.”
Scorpia passes it to Adora’s grabby fingers, “No peeking.” Scorpia warns.
Nodding, Adora takes the garment bag into arms, “I won’t.”
Standing up to head out of the room, Scorpia calls over, “Hey, don’t you need keys to get in?” She looks to Catra to confirm only to be met with Catra looking away poignantly, “Catra?”
“She has a key…” Catra replies softly and somewhat guiltily.
“She does!?” Scorpia shouts in surprise and a little sad, “…I don’t even have a key…”
“Scorp…” Catra sighs, “Can you just… not?”
Adora takes this as her cue to leave this conversation, quickly excusing herself as she goes into Catra’s place. Resisting the temptation to look inside the garment bag in her arms as she hangs it up next to Catra’s suit. She does manage to make out a little bit of the dress though, but not enough to know or get an idea of what is inside the bag. She smooths it down and then heads back into Catra’s office where hears an animated conversation between Catra and Scorpia. The sounds and conversation is muffled by the door as Adora presses her ear against it, she hears a few words like: key, home, together and love.
Love?
Adora swipes her card and opens the door to find the conversation stopped in its tracks when she returns with a raised eyebrow at the pair, “What are you guys talking about?”
“Nothing.” The pair answer in unison.
Entrapta stifles a giggle at the absurdity around her, instead she stands up abruptly and announces to no one in particular, “I’m heading back down to my lab. I just need to put the finishing touches on Emily the fourth! And then we’ll be ready for the ball!” She looks down at her phone, “I still have at one day to be ready.”
“Geez, this has come up quick.” Catra sighs, “Well, let’s hope it works.”
“It will.” Scorpia assures, “We are the Super Pal Trio, and Adora…” Catra snorts as Adora rolls her eyes at not making it into her troupe as Scorpia continues, “Horde Tech are going down… for real this time.”
“This time?” Adora asks.
“We should have brought them down last time.” Catra grumbles angrily as she stares at her hands opening and closing, “But, these 2 wouldn't let me take the fall.”
“And we still won’t.” Entrapta scolds, “I have 2 friends and if you took the fall, I’m down to half of that. So, no. I rather these odds than what we had all those years ago.”
Catra nods gratefully, “Sorry Traps. I didn’t mean…”
“It’s okay!” Entrapta beams, her mood changing dramatically as she walks towards the door, “We will succeed this time!”

Catra sits on the couch, dressed and ready to go for the ball, “Are you ready yet, princess?” Catra calls to the bedroom, “How long does it take to put on a dress?”
The door to Catra’s bedroom opens slowly as Adora steps out adjusting her hair that was down around her shoulders and not tied up, the blonde steps out, “Have you got shoes on yet?” Adora is met with silence, frowning she turns to see why Catra hasn’t responded, “Well, have you…”
They stare at each other dumbfounded at how they could not have expected their brains to short circuit seeing one another dressed up. Catra is outwardly gawking, mouth open as her eyes scan Adora up and down while Adora isn’t doing much better. The blonde freezes in place as her stare goes to Catra and the suit she’s donned. It’s Catra that manages to break out of their stupor first.
“Uh, yeah, I’m wearing shoes. See?” Sticking her foot out to demonstrate that fact before once again losing her train of thought at seeing Adora in the white and gold dress that she chose for her, perfectly covering her body, “You, uh, you… fuck…”
Adora can’t help but smile as she watches Catra wipe her hands on her pants and then shoves them in her pocket to hide her fidgeting, “You look really good. Like, really, really good.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah…” Adora steps towards the couch where Catra has now stood up from, “I always thought a maroon suit would look ridiculous on everyone but…” She deliberately looks Catra up and down, “You pull it off nicely.”
“Just nicely?” Catra smirks as she pulls Adora into her by the hips so that they’re flush against each other, “Not cool, suave or charming?”
Adora chuckles, shoving Catra’s shoulder as she buries her face in the CEO’s neck, “No. You’re just an ass, suave is charming.”
“Ouch. Harsh.” Catra feigns hurt as Adora laughs harder into her neck, “Well, I guess I’m an ass with a beautiful woman as my date tonight.”
“You are so full of it.” Adora says before whispering into Catra’s ear, “Maybe I can be full of you later?”
Catra’s breath hitches at the remark, “Mmm… fucking hell, Adora…” Catra holds Adora tighter against her as she breathes the blonde in, “You can’t say shit like that…”
“Why not?”
“Because, we won’t make it to the ball is why not.” Catra replies through gritted teeth as she gently tugs Adora up from her neck to press their lips together, a smile forming on Catra’s lips as she hears Adora moaning into it and then whining when Catra pulls back, “2 can play this game…”
“Fuck…” Adora breathes out, “Do we have to go to the ball?”
Catra laughs, “Yes, we do.” Watching Adora pout again, “It’s all set up to take down Horde Tech tonight. We can’t not be there. We kind of a really big role to play and all.”
“You haven’t even told me what I’m supposed to do there.” The blonde complains as she wraps her arms around Catra’s neck, “I don’t just want to be your arm candy.”
“Arm candy?” Catra chuckles, “You are not arm candy, babe.” She pauses for a moment, “You’ll be there as my EA, well, undercover EA anyways.”
“This ends tonight, right?” Adora’s voice hopeful, “Because I don’t think I can keep pretending much longer.”
“Yeah, me neither…” Catra grumbles, “I can’t wait to fire your ass.”
They both laugh until there’s a knock on Catra’s door, “I’ll get it, since I’m your EA and all.” Adora says mockingly, “But after tonight, you are opening your own doors.”
“Sure, sure.”
“Oh, hang on.” Adora stops and rubs her thumb against Catra’s lips, “I got some lipstick on your face… and… there.” The soft smile on Adora’s lips is reflected instantly as Catra licks her lips, “I’m, uh, going to get the door.”
Catra nods.
“Oh, good. You’re both ready!” Entrapta pushes herself inside, “Shoes even! Well done, Adora!”
“What, seriously?!” Scorpia’s voice booming from behind as she pushes in after Entrapta to see for herself, “But… how?”
Adora looks at the pair a little confused, “I just asked her to?”
“I wear shoes!” Catra protests, “…from time to time anyways.”
“Ha!” Entrapta shouts, “Only when you have to!”
“Yes. Like if I have to drive or meet a client or you know, work that’s not in this office.” Catra crosses her arms in front of her chest but immediately grinned at her friends, “Fuck it. I hate wearing shoes. Besides you can talk? Where the fuck did you even come up with formal overalls? No know what, scratch that, I don’t want to know. Can we go now?”
“Yeah, we’re good to go.” Scorpia beams.
“Hey, where’s Perfuma?” Catra asks as she doesn’t see the slender blonde on her friend’s arm, “Isn’t she coming?”
“Oh, she’s already downstairs!” Scorpia happily informs the room, “Come on, we need to go too!”
Entrapta and Scorpia make a hasty exit as Catra shakes her head at the excitement her friend have for tonight’s ball and whatever will be going down tonight. Catra walks up to Adora, hands in her pant pockets and sticks her elbow out, “Ready?”
“Yes.” Adora loops her arm through Catra’s and they head out.

The 4 of them arrive together at on the 1st floor where the ball is taken place, walking through a set of metal detectors before being allowed entry to their own party. Pretty much as soon as they get in, Entrapta has hi-tailed it, disappearing somewhere that’s not in the crowd. Catra catches a glimpse of Hordak talking with Entrapta before they both move out of view. Scorpia beelines for her girlfriend, leaving Catra and Adora standing awkwardly next to each near the entrance, still arm in arm.
“Come on.” Catra gestures, “Let’s grab some food.”
“Yeah, okay.” Adora nods enthusiastically, “I am very hungry.”
“The food here is usually pretty good.” Catra leads the blonde to the buffet tables, “DT has some kind of deal or relationship with the caterers. I’m pretty sure we are keeping them afloat yearly with how much they charge us.”
Adora lets go of Catra’s arms and grabs 2 plates, shoving one into Catra’s chest, before filling up her own plate with all the different foods she can fit on the plate before grabbing the empty plate in Catra’s hands and starts filling that one up too.
“Uh, do I get any of that?” Catra asks holding one of the full plates, “Or are both of these for you?”
“We can share?” Adora answers as she scans the room for an empty table, “Come on, there’s a table over there.”
Catra follows the blonde to the table and sets the food down, “Oh, hang on, I’ll go grab some cutlery.”
Nodding, Adora settles herself down on her seat and starts to pick at the food on the plates, popping the smaller pieces into her mouth with her fingers as Catra returns, the blonde’s eyes close as she savours the food in her mouth, moaning a little as she opens her eyes to see Catra return with the cutlery, “Oh, you have to try this. It’s so good.”
“I can see.” Catra replies with a smirk, “Here. You wanna try to be civilised?”
“Shut up.” Adora shoves the other woman with a laugh, “It’s not my fault this food is so good.”
Catra foregoes her fork and picks up a piece and pops it in her mouth, chewing slowly, “Mm, this is really good. I should probably eat the food more often when I’m here.”
“So… do I get an invite next year?” Adora waves her fork around in the air as she asks the question with a grin, “I mean, since I hopefully won’t be working here after tonight.”
“I dunno…” Catra leans back, crossing her arms, “I might need some convincing…”
Adora leans in before she groans and pulls away, “I can do that. Just not right now…”
“Well, then, ask me again later.” Catra grins as Adora glares at her.
Before Adora can make a retort, their night is interrupted by the MC on stage, but it’s not DT or any from DE.
“Welcome everyone. I hope you all are having a good night. As this will be your last.” The figure on the stage says before the spotlight turns on and he is revealed.
“Prime…” Catra seethes.
“Catra, no.” Adora puts her hand on top of Catra’s, “Don’t.”
“Sorry Adora, I have to do this.” Catra squeezes the blonde’s hand, “Have my six?”
Adora nods, “Okay.”
Catra gets up off her chair as Prime sees her, “Ah, if it isn’t the CEO of Dryll Enterprises.” He drawls as Catra makes her way up to the stage, Adora following closely behind, “I feel like there’s some things we need to clear up. Including an apology from your end.”
“You want an apology?” Catra scoffs, “I don’t think so.”
The crowd goes silent as Catra steps onto the stage, sizing up the larger man, “Ah, and who is this lovely lady behind you?”
“None of your business.” The reply is sharp as he smiles evilly at the both of them, “What are you doing here? You were not invited.”
“My, my.” Prime tsks at the CEO, “That is no way to treat your guest.”
“You are not a guest. You were not even invited.” Catra repeats, “What do you want?”
“I already told you. I want my apology.” Prime grins, “After all, I was wrongfully imprisoned on your testimony.”
“No. You were definitely not wrongfully imprisoned. Everything they charged you with happened and we both know it.” Catra replies calmly before looking around, “Where is your sidekick?”
“My what?” Prime asks.
“Your sidekick.” Catra repeats slower, “I know she’s around here somewhere. As I know your also scheming something right now.”
Prime has the audacity to look shocked at the accusation, “How dare you! I have spent the last decade behind bars as an innocent man…” His rant is cut off by Hordak laughing in the crowd, definitely not what Prime was expecting, “Brother…” He growls, “What is so funny?”
Hordak cuts through the crowd and stands at the front of the stage, “Well, you are.”
Prime growls at Hordak louder, “Do not back talk me, brother.” The threat falls flat as Hordak begins to laugh again.
“Give it a rest, Prime.” Hordak voice is low and dangerous, “You don’t want to go back to prison on a… what was it, right, a technicality, do you?” The glare that Prime give Hordak is downright murderous.
“How did you get out of prison?” Catra asks as Adora stands behind her, back to the CEO, “Did you bribe the judge?”
“You will regret crossing me, Catra.” Prime scowls at the CEO as he steps closer and whispers into her ear, “I should have killed you on that table instead of fixing you up.”
He pulls back with a grin as Catra remains stoic, “Well, you didn’t. And that’s on you.”
Prime grins, as he looks up and winks. Catra’s eyes follow and catches who he is signalling. Shadow Weaver is up on the roof trusses, hiding in the lights with a sniper rifle aimed directly at them on stage. Catra rushes to push Adora away, copping another bullet in the shoulder.
“For fucks sake!” Catra shouts as a few more shots follow her across the stage whilst the crowd in the room scramble for the exits, she manages to get herself and Adora to relative safety on the other side of the cage, as Adora puts pressure on the bullet wound. Catra hisses in pain, “I just recovered from the last fucking bullet!”
Adora giggles at the irony of all of it, “Sorry, I know it’s not funny…”
Catra rolls her eyes at the blonde but grins, “Well, I guess it’ll be funnier when I’m not bleeding out later…”
Adora peeks over the stage quickly, the room has cleared of guests. All that’s left is Prime standing on stage, his hands behind his back, standing arrogantly in the middle staring down Hordak who has not moved. He know he is not the target, nor will Prime allow Shadow Weaver to kill him.
“Come out, come out, wherever you are…” Prime taunts from above, “We are not finished yet.”
Catra pushes down on her hidden earpiece, “Now, Emily!”

BANG!

“Take her out, now!” Entrapta instructs from her comms as Emily 4 knocks Shadow Weaver out and over off her perch, plunging her to the floor. Shadow Weaver lands in the middle of the dance floor with a loud thud, apart from a slight gurgling sound there’s no indication that she is okay.
Prime growls as she sees his accomplice lying motionless on the floor in front of him, “Disappointing.” He pulls out a gun he had hidden under his clothes and strides over to where Catra and Adora are currently hiding, pointing his weapon at Hordak so he doesn’t rush him, “Stay where you are brother. I will issue your punishment after.”
Hordak growls at the threat but remains where he is.
“What are you doing, Adora?” Catra pulls the blonde back down with her good arm, “Don’t be a hero.”
“I’m not.” Adora sends Catra a reassuring look as she continues to stand, “Hey, Prime!”
Prime’s gaze settles on Adora, “And who might you be? You don’t look like Estelle.”
“I’m not Estelle.” Adora grits out, “I’m Adora. And you are going back to prison.”
“Such a mouth on you.” Prime taunts, “You do fit Catra’s type.” Another evil grin.
Adora furrows her eyebrows at him as Scorpia comes out of nowhere and tackles him to the ground. Prime grunts as he hits the floor, but manages to elbow the larger woman in the face before she can secure him. Adora rushes over to take possession of the gun, but she’s too far and Prime manages to get it back as she points it at the blonde.
“Scorpia! Are you okay?” Adora asks as Prime points the gun at her.
“Shut it, blondie.” Prime growls as he pulls out a radio, “Send them in now.”
“Send who in…?” Adora looks around and sure enough, Horde Tech uniforms rush in through the doors.
“Your security is severely lacking.” He grins victoriously at Adora, “Looks like your plan failed.”
The sound of Catra laughing from her hiding spot changes Primes expression, “I think our plan has worked perfectly.” Catra manages to get out as she’s hauled to her feet by HT uniforms, one of them purposely pushing against the new bullet wound in her shoulder, “For fucks sake, get off me!”
As she’s hauled up and dumped in front of Prime and next to Adora, he looks down at her, “Guess that special serum has worn off, little sister.”
“Fuck off.” Catra grunts out as he digs the gun into her wound, “You know this isn’t helping you stay out of prison, right?”
“Catra, stop!” Adora pleads with the CEO to stop taunting the man with the gun before she turns to him in anguish, “Stop hurting her!”
He raises his arm and whacks her with the back of his forearm, causing Adora to fall down from the unexpected impact, “Do not tell me what to do. I will kill her and you and anyone else that stands in my way. Just like those… subjects. You should have died with them. How did you survive?” The question is aimed at Catra despite Prime facing down Adora.
Adora cups her face with a hand as she glares at him.
Catra stands, “You know, I thought you would have been smarter than this.”
Turning around to face the CEO, Prime grits his teeth together, showing them off in the process as an act of aggression, “I am smarter than you.”
“Such certainty.” Catra goads as he points the gun at her, “You really think I’m that stupid? Well, go ahead. Finish me off.” Catra quirks an eyebrow at him before pressing her chest up to the barrel of the gun, “Go ahead. Do it.”
Prime grins, “Goodbye little sister.”

BANG!

Prime is floored by Adora tackling him to the ground. The gun goes off as it falls to the ground, the bullet grazing Hordak’s head as the former HT employee picks up the gun and makes his way on top of the stage before the HT uniforms can get to him. He points the gun at Prime and pushes on his earpiece, “Miss Entrapta, you may now proceed.”
“What?!” Prime looks around confused, “What did you do?!”
Hordak doesn’t answer as law enforcement crash through the doors, armed to the eyes as they descend onto the HT uniforms, surrounding them on all sides. HT uniforms drop their weapons, surrendering almost immediately as 3 officers tackle Prime to the ground and restraining him as he resists arrest, Detective Juliet and Vera appear in full tactical wear as they take the weapon off Hordak.
“Prime. You are under arrest.” Detective Juliet starts reading out his rights as they start to haul him off the stage.
Hordak stops them, “Sorry, can I have a quick word with my brother.”
“Say it now, Hordak.” Detective Vera huffs.
Hordak leans in and grins at Prime, “You miscalculated.”
Prime growls at him as he is led off. Shadow Weaver is attended to by paramedics, she’s not dead, somehow. But she has suffered severe head injuries and probably internal bleeding and is carted off roughly by the paramedics.
Entrapta comes rushing down from her hiding spot and goes straight to Hordak to check the graze on his face, whilst Perfuma pushes through all the law enforcement to get to Scorpia, cradling the larger woman in her lap. Catra rolls her eyes at Scorpia’s ‘sudden life-threatening injury’ after tackling prime and getting elbowed in the face, milking it for all it’s worth out of her girlfriend who is more than happy to heap her love on her.
Catra shuffles herself over to Adora, ignoring the medic trying to attend to her injury as she stands in front of the blonde, “Are you okay?”
“I quit.” Adora deadpans, before rushing to pull Catra into the biggest hug she can give her, “I can’t believe how suicidal you are. What the fuck is wrong with you!?”
As Adora continues to ramble her anger out, Catra grins and grabs the blonde by the back of her neck and kisses her.
“That doesn’t make up for scaring me.” Adora presses another kiss on Catra’s lips, “You…”
“Adora?”
“What?”
“Shut up.” Catra grumbles as they continue to make out while the medic scoffs at them, unable to address the bullet wound on Catra’s shoulder.
