Rematch
News spread around DE of the public sparring match between Catra and her new EA after word had spread that Adora had taken down the CEO to get her job back. They were calling this rematch; The Power Fight. Adora had set it up on a Saturday morning in the gym located on the 1st floor at 10am. Catra was dreading this from the moment Adora had told her the time and date. It’s currently 5pm on Friday and Adora is packed up, backpack slung on over her shoulders and ready to head home.
“Hey Catra.” Adora pokes her head through Catra’s office door, “Are you done for today?”
“Not quite.” Catra replies not looking away from her screen, “Are you done for the day?”
“Yeah. I don’t think I can spend another minute looking through more profiles or just files in general.” Adora steps inside Catra’s office, shutting the door behind her, “I’ve been going through the file Bex gave you to see if I can find who was trying to blackmail her and Estelle. So far, I’m not getting very far as everything has been paid by cash or done in person.” Adora sighs, “How’s Entrapta’s facial recognition software going on the footage from the parking garage?”
Catra looks up from her laptop, “She’s slowly making headway. It’s still pretty blurry and it doesn’t help the 2 culprits are pretty much fully covered.”
“What are you working on?” Adora tries to peek over Catra’s screen, “Surely it can wait until Monday to finish, right?”
Catra saves whatever she’s working on and closes her laptop, turning to Adora with a questioning look, “What’s up, princess? You’re usually happily dipping out at 5pm on the dot. What gives?”
“Nothing…” Adora hums to herself as she moves closer to Catra, “I was on my way out, actually. I was just checking up on you to see if you needed anything. You know, like an EA would do.”
“Bullshit. I know when you’re lying because you are shit at it.” Catra replies with a sigh, “What’s really going on?”
“Ugh!” Adora flops into the chair across from Catra, “I’m just so frustrated, is what’s wrong!”
Catra can’t help herself from chuckling at the blonde’s dramatics as she gets up to stand next to Adora, “Frustrated? How so?”
Adora looks up at Catra who now casually leans against her desk with her arms crossed across her chest and the blonde sighs loudly, “Everyone here is just so… so… loyal! I don’t get it? I mean what kind of company is this? It’s like a fucking cult, Catra.”
“A cult, huh?” Catra shakes her head with another chuckle, “As far as I’m concerned, there’s no mind control or drugs used on any of our employees. Though I wouldn’t put it past Traps…” The look of shock on Adora’s face makes Catra cackle, “I’m joking Adora.”
“Oh… right.” Adora chuckles nervously, “Pfft… I knew that…”
“Sure, you did.” Catra replies with a smirk, “Does it surprise you that DE has loyal staff?”
“Yes!” Adora declares loudly, “It’s really fucking weird! And I’ve been through a lot of companies.”
“Oh yeah? Tell me?” Catra moves a few things from her desk away and jumps up to sit on her desk with her legs crossed like a child, “What have you found out so far?”
Adora slumps down into her seat and glares at the floor, “Not much. Everyone I talk to doesn’t have anything bad to say about DE or the core group. I can’t even complain about anything because they all look at me like Scorpia did when I said I’d complain about you.”
“Okay.” Catra says as she uncrosses her legs off the desk and starts swinging them back and forth, “So, we need a new plan then?”
Adora nods, still glaring at nothing, “I guess I’ll have to wait until Entrapta’s recognition software clears up the footage a little more.”
Still swinging her legs on the table, Catra eyes the blonde, “Go home, Adora.”
“What?!” Adora looks up with a start, “What about you?”
Catra laughs, “Did you forget? I live here.”
“I still don’t agree with that.” Adora huffs, “You should be getting away from work. Not working and sleeping in the same place.”
“It’s not the same place, Adora.” Catra replies with a grin, “My work and home are clearly separated.”
“By a door. One door in fact.” Adora points out, “But you are still at work, though.”
“Not true.” Catra slides off her desk, “When my door shuts, it means I’m no longer in my place of work.”
“That makes no sense, Catra. You still have to walk through the building to come and go.” Adora points out again, “So, I’m right.”
Catra grins wickedly at Adora, “Wanna see something cool?”
Adora raises an eyebrow at Catra, “It’s not going to be illegal or anything right?”
Catra shrugs as her answer as she heads to the door, grabbing her keys off her desk on the way, “Get up, Adora.”
“Ugh, fine!” Adora groans as she gets up, pulling her backpack over her shoulders again “It better be cool.”
Laughing, Catra waits for Adora to exit her office before pulling the door shut and locked before gesturing with her head for the blonde to follow her to the ‘Supplies’ door. Unlocking her door, Catra holds the door open so Adora can enter.
“Come on, Catra!” Adora whines, “I’ve already seen the inside of your apartment…”
Catra shuts her door once Adora wanders inside and heads towards the window on the far side, the blonde turns around when she hears the door lock behind her, “Hey.”
“Hi.” Adora voice soft, as Catra prowls towards the blonde, the lights still off, “What are you doing?”
Catra comes up behind the blonde, wrapping her arms around Adora, “Well, we aren’t at work anymore… are we?”
The rasp in Catra’s voice send a shiver down Adora’s spine as she feels Catra’s fingers on her waist, all Adora can do is shake her head. Before she knows it, Catra is walking Adora closer to the windows the blonde was heading towards before. The blonde looks back and sees Catra’s mischievous eyes staring back at her.
“You… you said you were going to show me something cool?” Adora’s question coming out a lot breathier than she wanted. Her eyes watch as Catra’s gaze moves from her own to what’s in front of them, “What…? Woah…”
“I told you it’d be cool.” Catra grins as she rests her chin on Adora’s shoulder. The blonde taking in the view of the city as the sun hangs low in the sky, making all the clouds turn orange and purple. The city lights slowly turn on, illuminating the city streets below as there’s a mass of people moving around on the streets and below them. Catra turns her head slightly so she can whisper into Adora’s ear, “You weren’t thinking of something else, were you?”
Adora’s eyes close for a moment and she swallows hard, before Catra begins cackling on her shoulder. That snaps Adora back and she shoves Catra off her, “Fuck off, Catra!” Adora whines as Catra continues to laugh, “That is so not funny!”
“Debatable.” Catra manages to get out between breaths as she keeps laughing, “You should have seen your face!”
“Shut up!” Adora’s face goes red, “I should have expected you would have pulled something like this.”
Pouting and huffing, Catra pulls the blonde back into her by the waist, “Oh, Adora. You’ll get your revenge on me tomorrow.” Adora huffs again, turning her face away from Catra, trying to stay mad, or as mad as she can pretend to be, “Aw, come on, princess. You’re going to kick my ass tomorrow, so let me enjoy this.”
Adora rolls her eyes, “You can’t hold back tomorrow.” She says pointedly, “I’ve seen what you can do.”
“Uh huh…” Catra winces a little, “I, uh…”
“No. You can’t fake that you can’t fight, everyone will be there from DE, watching us.” Adora says firmly as Catra releases her grip on Adora’s waist, but the blonde holds her in place by wrapping her arms around Catra’s shoulders, “And if you aren’t putting in 100% effort, I’m going to do more than just kick your ass tomorrow.”
Catra looks at Adora with a questioning look on her face as she groans out, “Okay, fine.”
“Good.” Adora replies as she pulls Catra into a big hug, making Catra yelp at the sudden embrace. The blonde smiles into Catra’s neck at getting that response from the CEO, “Should we make another bet on it?”
Without parting, Catra just breathes out, “What do you want now? You already won your job back.”
Adora giggles into Catra’s neck before shaking her head, “You teach me how to drive Swifty.”
This time Catra chuckles into Adora’s neck, nodding her head, “Sounds fair, guess it’d be good to have someone else drive when I’m hammered. What do I get if I win?”
What Adora really wants to say is me, but she knows that’s not really going to fly, “What do you want?”
Catra shivers at the question in front of her, “I’ve already got everything I want, Adora.”
“Everything?” Adora’s breath on Catra’s neck is warm, the blonde rubs her cheek into the Catra’s neck as well. “Really?”
“Almost everything.” Catra smiles as she feels Adora rub her face against her cheek.
“Mm… but what do you want?” Adora asks again her cheek now still against Catra’s.
“Hm…” Catra thinks to herself before finally settling upon something, “If I win…” Catra squeezes at Adora’s waist a little as the blonde’s breath hitches, “I want to take you out for dinner.”
Adora pulls back suddenly, “Catra!”
“What?” Catra grins, unsure why Adora had pulled back so abruptly, “I thought we had a moment there…”
Staring at Catra with an incredulous look on her face, “You can’t say something like that!”
“Like what?” Catra rubs the back of her neck, “What? I can’t take you out for dinner if I win?”
“No. You’re going to blow my cover!” Adora covers her face from her blossoming blush, “You need to pick something else.”
Catra chuckles to herself at the fact that Adora is blushing from just the thought of going out to dinner with her, “I don’t get it, princess. We gotta eat. I mean, if it makes you feel better, I can take you to a fast food joint or I don’t know, something low key like a pizza or tacos.”
Shaking her head, “No. Pick something else.” Adora insists and when Catra is about to argue again, “I don’t want our first date to be because you won a bet.”
That’s when it hits Catra, “Oh… right.” A sly grin on Catra’s face, “You, uh, want to go on a date with me?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Adora’s hands covering her face, making her voice muffled, “So, please, pick something else?”
Catra steps forward and pulls Adora’s hands away from the blonde’s face, “Okay, I’ll pick something else.” Adora nods as she sees the soft smile on Catra’s face, “But, just so you know. When I do take you out on a date, it’s not going to just be dinner.”
“Dinner and a show?” Adora wiggles her eyebrows, Catra chuckles at the ridiculous of the blonde.
“If it goes well, maybe you can give me a show.” Catra replies with a smirk making the blonde blush even harder, “Anyways… so, if I win and I can’t take you to dinner…”
“How about if you win…” Adora fidgets with her fingers, “You can dress me however you want for a week for work.”
Catra grins, “I like it.”
“Then it’s settled.” Adora sticks her hand out, “If I win, you teach me to drive Swifty. And if you win, I’ll wear whatever you want to work for a week.”
Before Catra’s shakes on it, she looks up at Adora, “How do you know I’m not going to make you wear something stupid to work? Like say a gorilla costume or something?”
Adora raises an eyebrow cockily, “I think I know what you’ll want me to wear.” The blonde thinks about it a little harder, “But then again, you aren’t going to win, are you?”
“Can I take you out shopping if I do win? You know, so I can get you dressed up how I want?” Catra adds.
Feeling confident that there was no way she’d lose a sparring match to Catra, Adora agrees, “Sure. Do we have a deal?”
Grinning at Adora’s confidence, Catra reaches out and firmly shakes Adora’s hand, “Deal. Now get the fuck out of here and go home, Adora.”
Adora pouts, “Do I have to?”
“Yes, Adora.” Catra insists, “If you stay here, I, I don’t know if I’ll be able to stop myself from doing something stupid.”
“Oh yeah? Like what?” Adora stands her ground, “Are you calling me stupid?”
Catra laughs loudly at Adora’s joke, “No, Adora. But we said we’d wait until the mole was uncovered. Don’t really want your cover blown… do we?”
Adora sighs, “You’re right.”
“I hate being right…” Catra groans, “Besides, you should go home and rest up before you kick my ass tomorrow at the fight.” Adora concedes and nods, “I’ll walk you out?”
“Sure. Let me just call my friends. I’m meeting them for dinner later tonight.” Adora says, pulling out her phone, “Give me a minute?”
Catra nods as Adora excuses herself into Catra’s bedroom to make the phone call, closing the door behind her. Catra goes over and turns on the lights and then moves to her couch, slipping her shoes off and putting her feet up on the coffee table in front of her, turning the tv on and gets herself comfortable as she waits for Adora to return.
Meanwhile in Catra’s bedroom, Adora’s calls up Bow and Glimmer.
“Adora! What’s wrong!?” Glimmer screeches into the phone, “Did you find out anything?”
“Shh… not so loud, Glim!” Adora chides, “I’m in Catra’s bedroom right now.”
“What!?” Glimmer screeches even louder and Adora has to over the headpiece on her phone, so it doesn’t deafen her, “What the fuck are you doing in her bedroom?”
“Nothing, I just needed some privacy to make a phone call.” Adora answers truthfully, “She’s in the lounge, I think she’s got the tv on.”
“Okay… but why are you in her bedroom?” Glimmer repeats only to hear a groan of frustration on the other line, “Fine! Why are you calling?”
“I need a ride.” Adora answers truthfully, “I told her I had dinner plans and I kind of need you guys to collaborate that for me.”
“Argh! For fuck sakes! Bow and I have plans tonight!” Glimmer shouts into the phone, “We aren’t even in town right now.”
“Wait, what?” Adora splutters out, “What do you mean? I thought you weren’t going away until next week…”
“Really Adora?” Glimmer groans into the phone, “I told you yesterday when we met up for lunch. Have you not been listening to anything I’ve been talking about?”
“Uh… yeah, sure I have…” Adora answers nervously.
“You’re a shit liar Adora.” Glimmer sighs into the phone before there’s a little bit of rustling as the phone changes hands.
“Adora!” Bows voice beams, “Sorry! I planned this big getaway with Glimmer this weekend. We just left the city and won’t be back until Sunday night.”
“Oh, yeah. Pfft… of course you did.” Adora tries to brush it off, “It is your… anniversary?”
“Awe! You remembered.” Bow’s voice sweet, “Is everything alright?”
“Oh yeah! Of course…” Adora replies with a wave of her hand, despite the fact that he can’t see it, “I was just seeing how you guys were doing…”
“We saw you yesterday at lunch.” Bow replies, “Hang on… Glimmer’s saying something about getting picked up from work tonight…?”
“Oh, don’t worry about it. I’ll just give Mermista a call or something…” Adora starts thinking of other people that could get her out of this situation, “Uh, enjoy your trip?”
“Thanks, Adora!” Bow beams, “If you do need us…”
“No! It’s fine, Bow. I’m fine.” Adora sighs, “Just, enjoy your alone time with your girlfriend.”
“Okay.” The sound in Bow’s voice soft, “Just let us know if you need us, okay?”
“Thanks, Bow.” Adora nods into her phone, “I really mean that.”
“No problems. We love you! Bye!” Bow hangs up the phone and Adora is left hearing the dial tone.
There’s a knock on the door.
“Adora? Are you okay in there?” Catra’s voice coming through the door.
Adora sighs, putting her phone back into her pocket and opening in the door to Catra leaning up against the frame of it, hands in her pockets with a look of concern on her face. Adora thinks of whether she should lie to Catra and pretend everything is fine or just let her know the truth.
Shaking her head, Adora decides to admit the truth, “No… I don’t actually have dinner plans tonight.” The confused look on Catra’s face forces Adora to continue, “I forgot my friends were going away this weekend for their 2-year anniversary.”
“Oh.” Catra takes one hand out of her pocket and runs it through her hair, “Well, if you don’t have dinner plans…”
A smile tugs on Adora’s face as she watches Catra get nervous around her. She can’t help herself as she smirks back at Catra, knowing she just got the upper hand somehow, “Are you asking me to have dinner with you?”
Catra’s hand still in her hair, just scruffing up the back of it nervously, “Well, I mean if you want to…”
“It’s a yes or no question, Catra.” Adora steps closer.
“Fine. Yes. Stay for dinner.” Catra finally says with confidence and a hint of annoyance, “Help me in the kitchen?”
“What happened to not doing something stupid if I stayed?” Adora smirks before something else clicks in her brain, “Wait. You can cook?” Adora asks surprised.
“Well, I’m not some super chef or whatever, but I can cook a little.” Catra replies, ignoring the first part of Adora’s question, she pushes off the door frame and takes Adora’s hand and leads her to the kitchen, “What about you? You cook?”
Adora looks away a little embarrassed as she shakes her head, “Not well. I can do the basics, I guess.”
“Okay.” Catra smiles without judgement, “Come on. We can fail terribly together in the kitchen.”
Adora laughs as they reach the kitchen and Catra starts to open up her cupboards, Adora peeks over her shoulder to see what ingredients are available, “Ooh! We can do pasta!” Adora excitedly says from behind Catra, “And you’ve got the fun pasta too!”
“The fun pasta?”
“Come on, Catra.” Adora grabs the bag of pasta and holds it up to Catra, “Who else buys dinosaur shaped pasta if it’s not meant to be fun?”
Looking at the bag of pasta in Adora’s hand, Catra shrugs with a smirk, “Nothing wrong with a little dino pasta if you ask me. Plus, they pack more sauce than spirals.”
Adora eyes Catra and purses her lips, “Well, let's see if that’s true then.”
Handed the bag over to Catra, she turns around and grabs a pot out from under the stovetop and heads to the sink to fill it up. Catra watches for a moment before putting the bag onto the counter and then heading to the fridge to get the rest of the ingredients. They prep the pasta sauce in silence and then Adora starts to get the water boiling for the pasta.
Catra bumps Adora playfully as the blonde stares at the pasta boiling in the water, her tongue sticking out as she stirs the pasta.
“Hey! I’m cooking here!” Adora whines as she tries to bump Catra back making herself stumble backwards and straight into the CEO’s awaiting arms, a blush on her cheeks as her free hand grips onto Catra’s collar, “Sorry…”
The smirk on Catra’s face says it all as Adora rolls her eyes, “It’s too easy to get you into my arms, huh?’”
“Shut up!” Adora rights herself and shoves at Catra’s shoulder as the other woman cackles away.
“I’ll grab a couple of plates and set the table. What do you want to drink?” Catra ducks under to grab 2 plates, “I’ve got… water, juice, beer… there might be some wine or something somewhere if you want it.”
“Water is fine.” Adora replies waving the pasta stirring spoon around, “Besides, I’m not going to be inhibited for tomorrow fight.”
“Right.” Catra replies as she puts the plates on the counter and then grabs 2 glasses and fills them with water, “You want your water now or later?”
“I’ll grab it now.” Adora reaches for the glass and gulps the contents down in one go, “Thanks.” She breathes out and hands the glass back to Catra.
Catra refills it and brings it to the dining table, before returning to the kitchen, “Pasta done yet?”
‘Nearly…” Adora replies with a grin over her shoulder as Catra leans against the counter watching, “Pass me a plate?”
Silently Catra puts the plate in Adora’s hand, and she starts scooping the dinosaur pasta on the plate as Catra takes the full plate and hands her the empty one. “How much sauce do you want?”
“Oh, I’ll grab it myself if that’s alright.” Adora says putting a little more pasta on her plate than the previous one.
Catra nods and spoons the sauce on top of her pasta before heading back to the dining table, pulling out a chair and waiting patiently for Adora to join her. Eventually the blonde does and Catra just stares at her with a grin.
“Oh, crap!” Catra gets up quickly, startling Adora, “Cheese?”
“If you have some. Sure.” Adora replies as she starts to mix the sauce into her pasta with the spoon.
Moving quickly, Catra grabs the cheese and comes back, offering Adora first dibs before settling back in her chair and mixing her pasta and sauce together too. Before Catra can take a bite, she watches as Adora takes a large spoonful and pops it into her mouth, watching as the blonde moans in delight at the flavours on her tongue, her eyes closed and her head tips back. All Catra can do it swallow hard at the blonde's display, but she doesn’t say anything, instead taking a more manageable spoonful of pasta in hers. Chewing silently and watching Adora’s happy display at eating the pasta they’d prepared and cooked together. Fuck, this felt entirely too domestic.
When Adora finally takes a break from scoffing down her dinner, the blonde looks up at Catra grinning at her from across the table, “What?”
“Nothing.” Catra replies, grin still firmly on her face as she continues to eat her dinner.
“You’re staring again.” Adora leans forward.
“I was? Hm…” Catra shrugs before she glances at Adora, “You make the most… interesting… noises when you eat.”
The heat in Adora’s body seems to be radiating everywhere at that statement, “Do I?”
Catra nods, “It’s hot.”
The statement nearly makes Adora faint as she her body forces her to remove herself from the room, looking down at her empty plate, “I’m done. I’ll, uh, go wash up and then get out of your place…”
“Adora wait!” Catra stands abruptly, “I didn’t mean… I, uh, shit… I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that.”
Adora shakes her head, “I guess it’s good to know where you stand.”
Catra nods and then slowly sits back down, “You don’t have to go straight away. I mean, it’s still early…”
“What are you suggesting?” Adora raises her eyebrow at Catra.
“Let me finish dinner and I’ll take you out for dessert?” Catra suggests as she takes another spoonful of pasta, “If you aren’t full yet, that is…”
Adora hovers for a bit before a wide smile comes across her face, “I can do dessert.”
Catra nods as Adora goes about washing up her plate and then taking Catra’s as well when the shorter woman comes over to wash up too. The blonde had insisted she wash up since Catra did most of the cooking, which Catra vehemently denied.
Adora braves the cool air of the outside streets in Catra’s prized hoodie, while the CEO had thrown on a black hoodie, which was also well worn and had a few holes appearing in it.
“Where are we going?” Adora asks as they walk side by side, “And are you sure you want to be seen with me outside work hours?”
Catra rolls her eyes at the blonde, “Just because you’re my EA, doesn’t mean I can’t take you out for ice cream.”
“Ice cream?” The blonde’s eyes light up.
“Yeah. I know a good place, does great coffee too.” Catra says as she shoves her hands into her hoodie’s front pouch, “Plus I usually get a good discount.”
Adora scoffs at that, “Why would you need a discount? If anything, you should be paying full price and leaving a huge tip. Those people work hard for the money they earn, you know?”
“Woah.” Catra puts her hands up in surrender, “I don’t force them to give me a discount. She does it regardless, won’t take my money even if I throw it at her.” Catra explains, “I have to slip cash into their tip jars when they are distracted…”
“Oh…” Adora suddenly feels embarrassed by her little outburst, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to assume….”
“It’s fine, Adora. At least I know you are looking out for the little guy.” Catra shrugs as she puts her hands back into her pockets, “Come on, we’re nearly there.”
They stop in front of a small bustling shop just off the main street called, ‘Spinny’s’.
“Here we are.” Catra declares, “Have you been here before?” Adora shakes her head, “Oh, you are going to love this place. Scorp, Traps and I came here like every day for nearly 2 years when we were building DE.”
“Hang on… is this Netossa’s wife’s coffee place?” Adora asks leaning in close to Catra.
“Oh, she told you about this place?”
“Kind of?”
Catra laughs and grabs Adora’s arm and pulls her inside, “Grab a booth or a table, will you?”
“Please?” Adora crosses her arms in defiance.
Catra rolls her eyes, but says it anyway, “Please. Can you please grab us a booth or a table?”
“Sure.” Adora nods and starts making her way over to an empty booth.
WHACK!
“What the fuck!” Catra turns around to see a grinning Spinnerella and Netossa looking at her, “Why are you beating me up? I’m already going to get that tomorrow from Adora.”
“Yeah, right, kid.” Netossa throws out, “We know you don’t lose on purpose.”
“Well, maybe I didn’t lose on purpose.” Catra retorts, “Did you know she’s got black belts in karate and taekwondo?”
Despite that fact, Netossa and Spinneralla still shake their heads in disapproval, “Like that ever mattered to you.” Netossa adds, “You probably already know, I had a chat with your ‘EA’ the other day when Starla was running a mock.”
“I am aware.” Catra leans on the countertop.
“Oh, is that Catra’s new girlfriend?” Spinneralla asks giddily, “That’s so cute. She’s even wearing your hoodie.”
The cooing from the older couple makes Catra groan as they stare and wave at Adora from where they are, “She’s not my girlfriend. In fact, I don’t have one of them currently.”
“Good fucking riddance is what I say.” Netossa says exhaling, “Estelle was bad news. We all knew that. What the fuck is wrong with you kid?”
“Ow! You’re not supposed to hit your boss, you know that right?” Catra growls as she rubs the back of her head from where Netossa has tapped her, “Can I get service? Or should I go somewhere else?”
“Calm down, kid.” Netossa rolls her eyes.
“Darling? Stop being so mean to Catra. She’s just gone through a breakup, maybe don’t rub it in just yet.” Spinneralla scolds her wife before turning back to Catra, “Do you want your usual?”
“Still remember it?”
Spinnerella laughs, “Yes. Of course I do. Take a seat and we’ll bring it to you.”
Catra nods and heads over to the booth Adora has claimed, “You all good?”
“I should have known you would have brought me here.” Adora says as the owner smiles and waves at her.
“Trust me. This place has the best coffee and the best dessert.” Catra replies, “And if it isn’t, well, then you can take me out for dessert next time.”
Adora smiles back at the challenge, nodding in acceptance as Catra only manages to give her a lopsided grin. It’s not long before Spinnerella and Netossa return with 2 mugs of hot chocolate and a bowl of ice cream with 2 spoons. Catra looks up and glares at the wives, knowing exactly what their angle is. Spinnerella just grins and Netossa sends her a smirk as they head back to the counter to serve more customers, both women nodding at Catra in agreement and approval.
“They’re nice.” Adora remarks as she takes a sip of her hot chocolate, snapping Catra out of her glaring contest with the pair at the counter, “Did you order ice cream with 2 spoons? Because that feel more like a date move and not something a boss would do with their employee.”
“Uh, no. That wasn’t me. I swear.” Catra picks up her mug, “They think they’re being funny.”
Catra catches the soft look on Adora’s face staring back at her, “I think it’s sweet, if we were actually on a date.”
“I tried to tell them that, but do they listen? Nope.” Catra sips from her mug again, “You eat the ice cream first and then I’ll have whatever’s left.”
“So, you don’t want to share?”
“We are sharing. Just not at the same time.” Catra shakes her head at having to explain the difference, “Besides, wasn’t having dinner with me enough?”
“Hey, you suggested dessert.” Adora grabs the bowl of ice cream, taking a spoonful and popping it in her mouth, “Mmm…” she moans again as Catra digs her fingers into her hug to suppress whatever feeling she’s having right now, “This is amazing, Catra!”
“Yeah, I know.” Catra replies as she sips from her mug again, “That’s kind of why I brought you here.”
Turns out Adora really liked the ice cream and only left 2 or so spoonful’s for Catra, but that was more because Catra had insisted Adora have more since she’s already had this before and teased the blonde that it’ll weigh down the blonde in their sparring match tomorrow.
“Okay, if you distract them, I’m going to slip them cash.” Catra leans in with a mischievous grin, “Just, um, say that I asked you to pay and they’ll start lecturing you about how bad I am for you.”
Adora giggles at that, “They sound like they really love you.”
Catra shrugs that off, not wanting to acknowledge that as she turns back to the giggling blonde, “Ready?”
They run from ‘Spinny’s’ laughing loudly as Netossa half heartedly runs after them with the wad of cash Catra slipped into their tip jar while Adora distracted them. When they get far enough and their laughter dies down, they slow down back to a gentle walking pace.
“Your place isn’t too far from here.” Catra says as a fact.
“I think you’ve been hanging out with Entrapta too much.” Adora giggles, pushing lightly at Catra’s shoulder with her own, “You’re starting to sound like her.”
“Not surprising really.” Catra shrugs off the tease, “I do spend pretty much every day with or around her.”
“You guys seem close.” Adora says as she pushes a few stray hairs back behind her ear as they continue to walk down the street, “She definitely loves you and Scorp in her own way.”
“Yeah.” Catra agrees, “Been through a lot of together, I guess.” Catra looks up around and spots Adora’s building not too far from where they are walking, “I can see your place from here. Can I walk you home?”
“Aren’t you doing that anyways?” Adora glances over to Catra with a smirk.
Instead of answering, Catra nods. They walk the rest of the way to Adora’s apartment in a comfortable silence, sneaking glances at one another as they walk.
“This is me.” Adora proudly declares as she reaches the door, “Thanks for dinner, dessert and walking me home.”
“My pleasure, Adora.” Catra replies and Adora almost pouts that Catra didn’t use the pet name as they are out in public, “Guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Catra turns to head back to DE, “Wait!” Adora grabs Catra’s wrist and pulls her in. The blonde leans in, much to Catra’s surprise, even more surprising is when Adora places a soft kiss against Catra’s cheek before whispering into Catra’s ear, “Goodnight Catra.”
Catra watches as Adora goes inside and disappears from view once the door shuts. “Goodnight, princess.” Catra says to herself, barely above a whisper as she walks back to DE with a spring in her step and a smile on her face.
There’s a small crowd gathered in the DE gym, most of the employees are around the edges of the room and all cheer when Adora arrives first. The blonde blushes and tries to smile and wave them off before putting her bag down and going to warm up. There’s a few DE staff also working out, making the most of the gym while they wait for the sparring match between CEO and EA. But the majority of people in the gym are spectators, sporting coffees and casual wear instead of workout gear. At 950am, Catra appears and the employees cheer her in, just like they did for Adora. She pops her hood up and tries to block them out as she drops her bag to the floor and goes to warm up in the corner with the skipping rope.
“It’s 10am!” A voice inside the gym yells in excitement, startling pretty much everyone in there.
Catra looks around and she sees Starla waving at everyone to get off the mats in the middle of the gym floor. Adora grabs her towel and makes her way over as Catra drags her feet to meet the blonde. Adora’s got the brightest smile on her face when her eyes meet Catra.
“Are you ready?” Adora asks.
Catra rolls her eyes, then her shoulders and then her hips and starts kicking out her legs, “Eh, I’ve felt better.”
Scorpia and Entrapta stand in the corner. Scorpia chatting wildly with anyone that will listen to her while Entrapta commentates on everything that’s happening, regardless if anyone is even listening to her.
Catra walks up to Adora, “So, how we doing this? Same as last time?”
Adora nods, “Pin me and you win.”
Catra chokes on air at that statement, much to Adora’s amusement, “Uh, yeah, sure… whatever.”
Leaning forward, Adora whispers into Catra’s ear cockily, “If you can. Doubt it though.”
Letting out a chuckle, Catra shakes her arms out, “Oh, hang on, I haven’t wrapped my hands yet.”
“We can use gloves if you want.” Adora replies.
“Nah, I don’t want to put on someone else’s sweaty gloves.” Catra walks off the mat, back to her bag and pulls out her hand wraps.
“Okay, I’m good now.” Catra comes back to stand in front of Adora on the mats, the blonde stretches her arms and legs out while she waits. Looking around at the crowd gathered, Catra sarcastically says, “This is going to be fun… I love getting my ass kicked in front of an audience…”
“Well, if you actually try today, I won’t kick your ass too badly then.” Adora smirks back confidently, “Uh, how do you want to start this?”
Catra shrugs, then she spots Entrapta muttering something, “Traps!”
Entrapta looks up with a smile, one arm still in a sling, “Yes!” she beams.
“Say, 1, 2, 3, go!” Catra shouts over before winking at Adora, “Ready?”
“Yep.”
Entrapta thinks for a moment before connecting the dots and then screams out, “1, 2, 3… GO!”
The gym gets loud with the cheering and goading from the employees, cheering on Adora to take down the CEO and get one back for the lowly employees. Scorpia is the only one cheering Catra on making Catra roll her eyes.
“Are you going to keep that hoodie on?” Adora asks as she throws a few punching combo’s towards Catra, “Seems like a hinderance, if you ask me.”
Catra chuckles as she avoids all Adora’s attacks easily, “Well, good thing no one asked you.” She snarks right back, “At least I’m not in bike shorts.”
“They are not bike shorts.” Adora legs kick out as Catra blocks, using the gap to push Adora back.
“No? I’m surprised you're not wearing one of your many Gi’s.” Catra goads right back, pushing Adora with a well-timed block push.
Adora huffs, “Well, I look forward to you teaching me to drive Swifty.” Catra dodges another punch combination, ducking and sliding back and out of reach from the blonde, “Come back here!”
Catra laughs as she dances lightly around on the balls of her feet, slowly wearing the blonde down, “Nah, I think I’m happy avoiding you, for now.”
“You said you were a brawler, huh?” Adora smirks as she runs and tackles Catra, trying to flip her onto her back. Catra’s ready for that move and lets Adora tackle her and try to flip her.
Adora does manage to flip her, but Catra is able to take back control and land on her feet, turning the tables and to Adora’s surprise, flips the blonde over onto her back. But instead of pinning her down, Catra takes a step back and smirks.
“That was fun.” Catra says, panting a little from the exertion.
Adora scrambles back up to her feet, “What are you doing?”
“What?”
“You didn’t even try to pin me!” Adora’s voice is scolding.
“Oh, right.” Catra replies, “Oops.”
Adora rolls her eyes as she gets back into her fighting stance while Catra yawns and rubs her eyes like she’s still waking up. Adora figures Catra isn’t going to attack, at all. Instead preferring to defend. So, Adora attempts to tackle Catra again, this time using her brute force to force the other woman into submission. Adora charges, tackling Catra to the ground by the waist and promptly climbs on top, trying to pin Catra’s arms over her head like the first time they sparred. When Adora thinks she’s got the job done, she sees Catra smirk again, same as last time, except with one is slightly different.
“Hey, Adora.” Catra rasps out as Adora struggles to pin Catra’s arms, completely forgetting about Catra’s legs. It’s not long before Catra has her legs planted hard to the ground and as she bucks her hips up, forcing Adora to lose her balance and fall forward. It’s at that moment that Catra wraps her legs around the blonde’s waist and flips them over so Catra is straddling Adora’s hips, the blonde on her stomach and an arm locked up behind her back. Catra leans over, “Usually, I don’t let my opponent tap out, but then again, I don’t usually fight unless my life depends on it.”
Adora grunts as Catra pulls back on the lock on her arm a little, but still doesn’t tap out.
The cheering gets louder as Entrapta starts to count to 10. Before she gets there though, Catra leans down one more time, “I’ll let go if you tap out and submit to me.”
Adora’s breath hitches and her face goes red hearing that in her ear. She can feel Catra slowly increasing the pressure with each number Entrapta calls out and grunts again.
“Say it, Adora.” Catra sing songs.
Entrapta gets to count 6 when Adora grunts out, “I give!”
Entrapta pauses for a moment, looking to Catra to see if this is how the fight ends.
“Nope.” Catra says, “Not the words I want to hear.” She puts a little more pressure on Adora’s arm causing the blonde to squeal a little in pain, “Say it.”
Entrapta continues counting as Adora’s breaths fasten.
“Fuck!” Adora yells when Catra increases the pressure a little more, “I submit! I submit!”
Catra holds her grip, with a smirk she leans over and whispers into Adora’s ear so only the blonde can hear, “Good girl.”
Releasing Adora’s arm from the lock, Catra pushes herself off Adora’s back and stands back up. Adora rolls over onto her back, her face still red and she hopes no one will notice it’s not from what Catra was saying to her in whispers. Adora squeezes her sore arm with her other one as she lies on her back with her eyes closed, not wanting to look up at Catra.
The crowd has dispersed quickly and the gym is a practically a ghost town apart from the pair still puffing and panting to catch their breaths.
“How you doing down there, princess?” Catra asks, a little concern in her voice, “I didn’t mean to hurt your arm…”
Adora can’t help herself from laughing at the absurdity of that statement, “And here I thought I would be topping.”
“You want to top?”
Huffing on the floor, Adora lets her body relax into the mat, “No, not right now.”
“So, you going to make me do all the work, huh?” Catra teases, “Do you need a hand getting up?”
Slowly opening her eyes, Adora sees Catra’s outstretched hand towards her and a mischievous idea pops into her head. As she reaches up for Catra’s hand, she pulls Catra down into her arms and holds her tight in her arms, trying to emulate Scorpia’s bear hugs.
“What the fuck, Adora!” Catra cackles as she tries to wriggle free, “Fights over!”
As Catra manages to get a little space for herself she finds herself perched on top of the blonde, looking into those blue grey eyes, a grin on their faces and sweat trickling down their foreheads, cheeks and neck, only a breath away from those lips she’s been dying to taste ever since she came across the blonde’s profile on her desk. Luckily for Catra, it’s not her brain fade that pushes their lips together.
Adora’s fingers tangle into Catra’s messy and sweaty short hair, pulling Catra into the unexpected embrace. It’s sloppy, messy and honestly, the best kiss Adora’s ever had despite all of that mentioned. But right now, she doesn’t care if it is messy. No one else is in the gym and she’s wanted to do this ever since the Crimson Waste after the fight with Bex.
Catra pulls back with a sigh, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have…”
Adora rolls her eyes and smashes her lips back into Catra’s for a second time, “Shut up and kiss me.” Adora demands and Catra is quick to obey.
“Fuck…” Catra breathes out as she looks down at a slightly disheveled looking Adora beneath her, “I… I’m sorry. We can’t do this. Even though it’s fucking awesome…” Catra grins at the last part, “Still, though…” Thinking about the kiss again, Catra grits her teeth to ground herself and swears again, “Fuck.”
Adora sighs and releases her hold on Catra, letting the shorter woman rolls off her onto the mat next to her, “I’m sorry, Catra.” Adora softly says as she cups Catra’s cheek with a hand, before quickly adding, “Not for the kiss though.” Adora clarifies, “Just… well, you know.”
“It’s not your fault.” Catra turns her head to see the blonde, another smile tugging at her lips, “But at least I know what to look forward to.”
They both start to laugh at the situation they’ve found themselves in. Pretending to be professional in public will definitely not be easy moving forward.
Catra sighs again as she pushes herself up off the mat and once again offers her hand to help Adora up. This time, she makes sure to ground herself in case Adora tries to pull that move again.
“Well, I guess I won’t get to drive Swifty.” Adora pouts at her loss, taking Catra’s offered hand getting off the mats, “You’re not going to make me wear anything ridiculous, are you?”
Walking over to Adora’s bag, Catra grabs Adora’s towel and water bottle, tossing both at the blonde that only manages to catch the water bottle before heading to her own bag and shucking off the now sweaty hoodie and using it to wipe the sweat off her face and arms.
“Catra? You’re not, right?” Adora repeats with nervousness in her voice.
Choosing not to answer the question, Catra picks up her bag and throws it over her shoulder, “Want to learn how to drive manual?”
