Back to the office
Okay, so in theory, Adora had her own room. But she couldn’t stand leaving Catra alone at night, knowing that the other woman might crawl out in the middle of the night and sneak back into the bar or do something even stupider, like decide to drive back to Bright Moon without her. She knew in the back of her mind that Huntara would not serve her or let her drive, but it still didn’t quell Adora’s worries about her new boss.
Which is how she now have finds herself in the same bed as Catra. Catra is still asleep and Adora somehow managing to curl into the shorter woman last night. She managed to wake up enough to extricate herself from Catra’s arms wrapped safely around her waist and now lies on her back, wide awake in the middle of the night, in Catra’s old clothes and sharing a bed. The cuts on Catra’s face look bad but at least they came out of that whole situation in one piece. And Adora learnt something new about the CEO. She was not just a brawler.
They hadn’t even opened the file that Bex had surrendered to them last night after Adora had cleaned and bandaged Catra’s wounds and the file now sat on the desk in the room they were now occupying. She grabs her phone and looks at the time. It’s 4am on a Wednesday morning and she’s dreading going back to Bright Moon and straight into work. Though hopefully Catra will keep her word and drop her off at home so she can take a shower and get into her own clothes before she gets going into work. Though, she has to admit, wearing Catra’s clothes isn’t so bad. If anything, she feels comfortable in them. She didn’t end up taking off Catra’s hoodie that was offered to her last night as it still smelt so strongly of Catra and she couldn’t resist keeping it on. Though right now, she’s feeling very warm in it as she watches Catra sleep next to her.
As if Catra could hear Adora’s thought churning around in her brain, the shorter woman’s eyes flutter open and stare directly in Adora’s. Catra’s face contorts into a content smile at seeing Adora next to her in bed.
“Morning.” Catra rasps a greeting to Adora as she blinks out the sleep in her eyes, “Did you sleep in here all night?”
Adora blushes but nods in confirmation.
Catra rolls onto her back and stretches her arms up above her head, yawning as she does so. Adora moves to get up off the bed and then feels Catra’s hand around her wrist, “Where are you going?”
“Um, I think I should head back to my room?” Adora shyly says as she stares at Catra’s hand on her.
“Yeah, okay.” Catra lets go of Adora’s wrist, “We’ll head back in an hour if that’s alright?” Catra looks at the time on her phone, “Fuck me… it’s only 4am Adora…”
“I know.” Adora replies as she grabs her phone, wallet and keys from the table, “But I don’t want Huntara getting the wrong idea about us.”
“And what idea would that be?” Catra hums as she lays back down on her back, staring at the ceiling.
“I don’t want her to think that we slept together.” Adora answers as she shuffles towards the door.
“But we did.”
“Not like that.” Adora rolls her eyes while Catra grins and turns her head to look at Adora.
“You don’t have to leave because you’re scared of Huntara. She’s harmless.” Catra turns over onto her and nuzzles into her pillow, “Looks scary though. Is scary if you cross her. But she likes you.”
“I can’t stay in here Catra.” Adora whispers instead.
“Mm…” Catra hums as she closes her eyes again for another hour of sleep, “Thanks for looking out for me, princess.”
Adora nods as she opens the door and heads to her room untouched room next door. Pulling back the fresh covers and sliding underneath, she turns and faces the wall separating her and Catra and sighs. She pulls out her phone and texts Glimmer and Bow to let them know, she’ll be back in Bright Moon in a few hours before setting an alarm for 45 minutes and then sets her phone next to her, closing her eyes and trying to clear her head.
“Am I ever getting my hoodie back?” Catra asks as they enter the highway back to Bright Moon, she’s got one hand on the steering wheel and the other arm propped on the open window, “I thought you didn’t like my style.”
Adora hugs herself in Catra’s hoodie and shakes her head, “Nope this is mine now. Payment for the shit you put me through yesterday.”
“The shit I put you through yesterday?” Catra raises her eyebrow at Adora before quickly turning her gaze back to the road, “Yeah, I’m sorry about that. I shouldn’t have gotten you involved.”
“You didn’t get me involved.” Adora corrects.
“I did.” Catra sighs, stealing a quick glance at the blonde, “If I didn’t…”
“Yeah, well, it happened.” Adora cuts Catra off, “At least I got something out of it.” The grin on Adora’s face as she waved the sleeve of Catra’s hoodie around in the car makes the shorter woman laugh, “And I guess you got out of a toxic relationship.”
“Mm.” Catra hums, “I guess so. Plus we got that file. Though I don’t know how Bex knows about the mole though.”
Adora reaches behind and grabs the file, “Can I?”
Nodding, Catra eyes the file, “Go for it. You’re the PI after all.” Rolling her eyes, Adora nudges Catra a little and Catra cackles, “Hey! Don’t distract the driver!”
Adora laughs as well as she opens the file, “This file is so messy.”
“Yeah? How so?”
“Nothing is organised. It looks like someone just put a bunch of notes down and didn’t even bother making sense of them.” Adora furrows her brows, “I can’t even read half of what’s written here. It’s bloody doctor’s writing.”
Catra chuckles at she listens to Adora whine about the file in front of her, “Yeah, well, what can you make of what you can read?”
There weren’t too many pages in the file, only 4 all up as Adora studied them. She placed the papers back down onto her lap and sighed, “I think I know how Bex knew.”
“Go on.”
“Estelle.” Is all Adora says.
“Estelle knows shit.” Catra grips the steering wheel a little tighter, “That makes no sense at all.”
“From what I can make out on these… notes…” Adora traces her finger over the writing on the page, “Estelle was contacted by someone at Horde Tech. She didn’t know anything about well, anything, but the fact that they went through her means something. And obviously if she’s… uh…”
“Fucking Bex?” Catra’s knuckles are turning white before she releases her grip a little and drums her fingers on it instead.
“Yeah, that.” Adora clears her throat, “They also went to Bex too. They were using your relationship to try to blackmail you down the line by the looks of things. Threaten to expose your… girlfriend’s gambling problems and make you look, well, bad.”
Catra huffs, “Great. So apparently my ex-girlfriend’s gambling problem is my fault.”
“That was the angle the mole was going for by the looks of it.” Adora surmised, “But they also tried to blackmail Bex too. Seems kind of greedy to me.”
“Yeah.” Catra agrees, “So I guess that won’t happen now? The blackmail?”
“Not sure.” Adora closes the file and puts it back on the back seat, “I think they’ll be looking for another way to get to you.”
“Is there anything in there about Entrapta or Scorpia?” Catra asks even though the file is now at the back again, “Are they indicated in any of this?”
“Their names didn’t come up, Catra.”
“Okay, that’s good.” Catra lets out a relieved breath, “We should go see Traps and Scorp when we get back. Can you organise a meeting with them?”
“I guess so.” Adora teases, “It is my job as an EA, right?”
Catra laughs and Adora pulls out her phone, before realising she doesn’t have her email set up on it or even Scorpia or Entrapta’s direct numbers. Sensing Adora’s plight, Catra digs into her pant pocket and hands Adora her phone, “Here. Use mine for now. We can add in key contacts and all that into your phone once we get back.”
Blushing, Adora accepts Catra’s phone, “How do I get in?”
“Just type in 8008135.” Catra tells Adora, keeping her focus on the road, avoiding Adora’s eyes as the blonde types it in, hoping the blonde won’t notice.
“Unbelievable.” Adora mutters under her breath as Catra cackles next to her, “What are you? Like 10?”
“Shut up! It’s supposed to be a secret code.” Catra defends, “What I make my passcode to be is my problem.”
Adora shakes her head with a smile before opening the message function on Catra’s phone, “Should I just send a group message?”
Catra grimaces for a moment, “Uh, open up the DE app. At the bottom there’s a group chat between the core group. Use that to schedule a meeting with that. Traps won’t reply otherwise.”
Going into the DE app, Adora taps on the group chat icon and up pops the group name ‘Super Pal Trio!’ and Adora can’t help but snort back a laugh as Catra rolls her eyes, “That is so cute.”
“Shut up…” Catra glares straight ahead at the road, “Just type the damn message…”
“Guess I can’t become a part of this group too?” Adora muses with a grin as she begins typing out the message, “Since you guys are a trio after all.”
Catra groans, “Fucking Scorpia…” She mumbles under her breath, “You can talk to Scorp about that if you want to join. She’s the admin on this one.”
“I think you secretly like being part of that group.” Adora says casually.
Catra doesn’t answer, but she does swallow loud enough for Adora to hear, just throwing a glare over to the blonde briefly before going back to concentrating on driving.
Clearing her throat, Catra turns to Adora, “Uh, what’s your address?”
“Why?” The question being asked almost immediately by Adora as she feels herself get warmer.
“You said you wanted to shower and get changed at home, right?” One of Catra’s hands drops to the gear shifter, “Since you won’t let me buy you anything to wear…”
“Well, for starters, all the shops would still be closed.” Adora points out.
“Well, I know a few places that would open up for me.” Catra replies a little cockily, “And you, I guess.”
“Uh, no. That’s fine.” Adora sinks back into her seat, playing with the sleeve of her hoodie, “You can just drop me off at home and I can make my own way in.”
Catra’s brow furrows at hearing Adora thinking that she’d leave her high and dry to make her own way back into work, “No way. I’ll wait for you.”
“Uh, no, you don’t have to.” Adora tries to refuse, “I’ll be fine to make my own way in.”
“Adora.” Catra’s voice firm, “Don’t argue with me. I’ll wait for you.” Catra watches as Adora really contemplates her offer before she adds, “I’ll just wait for you in the car. You can take your time.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.” Adora concedes, “I’ll put the GPS on when we get closer to the city.”
“Cool.” Catra grins to herself, “You know, I would have bought you work clothes if you wanted.”
“Yeah, no. We aren’t doing that.” Adora rolls her eyes, “But I am keeping this.” She pulls the hood up on the Catra’s hoodie she’s wearing.
“It’s yours, princess.” Catra agrees, “Looks better on you anyways.”
Adora just hums in agreement as they continue their drive back to Bright Moon.
Catra parks up in front of Adora’s apartment building.
“Take your time, Adora. Don’t rush.” Catra tells her, “I’m in no rush to get to work.”
As Adora unbuckles her seat belt and reaches for the door, she hesitates, “Um… do you want to come up?”
“Uh, I don’t think that’s a good idea, Adora.” Catra replies looking away, “Don’t really want to cramp your style.”
“Pfft! Don’t be silly. Come on.” Adora reaches over and unbuckles Catra’s seat belt too, “You’re going to stink up your car if you stay in here.”
Catra groans playfully as she reluctantly exits her car, locking it and then following Adora into her apartment building. She quickly grabs her mail that’s sticking out from her mail box and then starts up the stairs, Catra close on her tail as they go up 3 flights of stairs. Panting and a little out of breath, Adora finally stops at her door, 3E.
“This is me.” Adora announces proudly as Catra looks around the hallways, “Don’t judge me when you come inside.”
Catra nods at the warning as Adora opens the door and steps in first, Catra walks in after her, shutting the door behind her before turning around and looking at her space without saying a word. Catra’s eyes wandering around the living room and then the kitchen. It’s a one bedroom apartment, Adora’s bedroom behind one of the closed doors and the bathroom must be the other closed door next to it.
“Um, make yourself at home, I guess.” Adora gestures to her couch. It’s the only couch in the room, “I’ll be right back.”
Catra nods again and takes a seat on the couch as she looks around Adora’s place as the blonde disappears into her bedroom. Adora’s apartment is, well, sparse. Apart from the couch, TV and dining table, there isn’t really anything here that suggests this could really be considered home. It feels empty mostly. Her kitchen looks pristine, like it's never been used. Adora comes out of her bathroom in a towel and quickly disappears again into the bathroom. The sound of the shower turns on and the low sound of Adora humming a song as she bathes. Shaking her head from thoughts of her EA in the shower, Catra picks up the remote and turns on the TV to the news channel and then sits back as she tries to concentrate on whatever the news anchor is talking about.
Her focus zones in on the TV when there’s a picture in the background of Dryll Enterprises with the words, ‘Scandal’ under it. Turning up the volume the news anchor reports;
“Breaking news just in about an investigation being launched by the Bright Moon police department in relation to the possible links between Dryll Enterprises and the H Virus. According to sources, there has been leaked information to the police regarding a link between the multibillion company and the potential economic threatening H Virus. Dryll Enterprises have not released a statement in regard to this scandal as of yet. We will keep you updated when more information comes to light.”
“Fuck!” Catra digs out her phone which has been on silence as she was driving back for the last 2 hours and there are missed calls from Entrapta and Scorpia from the last 15 minutes. She’s thankful that Entrapta had encrypted their personal phone numbers and basically jammed anyone from calling outside of their core group. All other phone calls would be directed to the hard wired phones in DE itself and handled by a different team. She pulls up Entrapta’s number first waits for it to connect.
“Catra! We’ve been trying to reach you!” Entrapta beams, not a trace of concern in her voice, “I take it you are back in Bright Moon?”
“Yeah, Traps.” Catra answers quickly, “I just saw the news. What the fuck is going on?”
“Oh, right!” Entrapta replies a lot less happy, “Seems like our mole is trying to set us up. They’ve been passing along false information to the PD. We have nothing to do with the H Virus.”
“I know we don’t.” Catra says, rubbing her temples, “How did this happen?”
“My data suggests that Horde Tech is creating false information and passing it along to the PD as fact.” Entrapta began explaining, “I’ve seen no evidence of any internal data being stolen so far. And as I said before, we have nothing to do with the H Virus. But unless the PD have experts in this field, I doubt they’ll be able to tell the difference between real and fake data.”
Catra nods despite Entrapta not being able to see it, “Okay. That’s not good.”
“No.”
“Fuck.” Catra sighs with frustration, “I guess you heard about me and Estelle?”
“Yes.”
“She has my number…”
“Had.”
Catra lets herself smile, “You are fucking amazing Traps. I fucking love you.”
“I love you too. Platonically of course.” Entrapta returns.
“Of course.” Catra relaxes back into the couch, “So… damage control?”
“Scorpia’s on it.” Entrapta can be heard a little further away from her phone as she’s typing away on something else, “You should get Adora started on finding the mole. Maybe find out who contacted your ex and her lover.”
Catra growls at hearing Entrapta describe her ex and Bex, but let it go once she remembers that it was no longer her problem, “Yeah, okay. She’s currently taking a shower. We’ll be in the office once she’s ready.”
Entrapta hums in the background, “Sleeping with your EA already?”
“No!” Catra almost shouts into her phone, “We didn’t… we just slept next to each other last night. That’s all!”
“Mmhm.” Entrapta just replies, “Okay. Judging by the increase stress in your voice… I believe you. My tracker has you located at Adora’s apartment…”
“I am.”
“Okay. But you did not sleep with her. Sexually.” Entrapta probes again, in an attempt to trip Catra up.
“No, Traps.” Catra grits her teeth, “We are not fucking. So, drop it.”
“Okay.” Entrapta agrees happily, “Come see me when you get into the office.”
“Will do.”
“Everything alright?” Adora’s voice comes across from behind Catra. Catra makes the mistake of turning around and her jaw nearly hits the floor at seeing Adora in nothing but a towel, water dripping from her wet hair and droplets of water sliding down her legs. Catra’s silence prompts Adora to ask again, “Catra? Are you okay?”
Snapping out of her gay thoughts, Catra’s lifts her eyes to meet Adora’s and clears her throat, doing her best not to look down from her face, “Uh, no. Not really.”
Adora steps forward and Catra swallows hard, “What happened?”
“Horde Tech, happened.” Catra replies as she turns back to the TV which is now on a different segment all together, “Looks like our mole is passing on false data to the police. DE has just made headlines. They are accusing us of creating and leaking the H Virus by the sounds of it.”
“Oh.” The weight of those words hit Adora, “Right. Uh, let me just…” She thumbs towards her room, “Yeah, be right back.”
Catra watches as Adora heads into her bedroom and shuts the door most of the way. Catra does her best to pull herself together and slumps back into the couch, instead texting Scorpia to let her know she’ll be in the office within the hour. She gets a text back almost immediately, filled with way too many emojis of fire and doom. Catra pockets her phone and switches off the TV. She lets the back of her head thump onto the back of the couch and closes her eyes.
“Hey.” Adora’s voice comes through again, this time Adora is standing over Catra and looking down at her, “I’m ready.”
Catra opens her eyes and moves to stand when she looks to Adora and her jaw drops again.
“What is with you today?” Adora asks bemused by Catra’s current reactions.
Adora has decided to wear a dress. A red dress of all things. And to top it off, she’s slid on Catra’s hoodie to finish off the look. All Catra can do is look like a fish out of water, opening and closing her mouth a few times before all she can muster is a smile and a nod.
“Nothing. I…I’m good.” Catra manages to stutter out, “Work?”
“Yeah. Let’s go.” Adora grabs her backpack off the couch and heads towards the door.
Catra rushes in front of the blonde and opens the door for Adora, gesturing for Adora to go first.
“You… You’re acting weird.” Adora tells Catra.
“No, I’m not.” Catra protests as she slides out of Adora’s apartment so the blonde can lock her door. “Come on, princess. We need to get to the office.”
Once Adora has her door locked, Catra is tugging the blonde by the elbow as they rush back down to Swift Wind. Catra climbs in and unlocks the passenger door for Adora and then starts up the car. Turning on the radio, they listen to the news report about DE and the allegations ledged against the company. Catra turns off the radio after hearing it once and grumbles about not wanting to listen to the opinions of the so-called experts.
To try to take her mind off the ‘scandal’ happening at DE, Catra turns to Adora, “A dress, huh?”
Adora smirks, “Totally worth it to see your face. You’re so gay, Catra.”
“Yeah… well I am. Gay, you know?” Catra sputters as Adora laughs, “Fine. Whatever.” Catra concedes, “You know I have a thing for blondes…”
“Uh huh.” Adora grins at Catra, “But I also know that you won’t act on it since I work for you and all.”
Under her breath, Catra mutters, “Fuck…”
“What was that?” Adora pretends to not hear, “Is my attire affecting you that badly.”
Catra grits her teeth and grips the steering wheel a little harder, “Fuck off, Adora.” There’s no bite to that threat and she hears Adora laugh again. “Laugh it up, princess. I’ll get my revenge.”
Wiping back her tears, Adora places her hand on the back of Catra’s and squeezes lightly, “I’m sure you will. Bet you’ve got one of those tshirts with the tie and vest painted on it.”
Adora giggles at her own joke, but doesn’t let go of Catra’s hand. Catra turns to Adora, a playful glare on her face, “Fuck off. You know I have one of them. It’s a fucking staple. Not to mention, I look pretty good in it too.”
Catra grins at Adora with all fangs as the blonde rolls her eyes, taking back her hand and placing it in her own lap, “Uh huh, I’m sure you do.”
“When we get to the office, I’ll get Traps and Scorp to meet us there.” Catra plans out aloud, “My office is secure. Place I don’t think we’ll have enough room in Entrapta’s office and Scorp’s office is sort of out in the open and Entrapta's basement lab is just an accident waiting to happen.” Adora nods, “Make sure to bring that file that Bex dropped off last night.”
Adora grabs the file form the backseat and shoves it into her backpack, “Uh, do you want me in the meeting too or I can wait outside…?”
“You’re my EA, Adora.” Catra reminds Adora, “I’ll need you to be there. Not to mention, you are also my spy slash investigator. I’m kind of relying on you to help us figure this out. I mean, no pressure or anything.”
Adora chuckles nervously, “I’ll do my best.”
“From my research, you’ve got a pretty good success rate.” Catra says casually, “Which is why I wanted you. To work with us to uncover the mole.”
“You researched me…?” Adora’s voice soft, “Should I be concerned about what else you might have found out about me?”
“Do you have something to hide, princess?” Catra glances over with a mischievous grin, “I mean, I did see some of your high school photos… loved your awkward teenage phase…”
“Shut up!” Adora blushes as she covers her face with her hands, “Like you didn’t have one?”
“Nope. No awkward phases for me.” Catra proudly admits, “My look hasn’t changed since I was 12. So, if you happen to come across an old photo of me, chances are, I’ll look exactly the same, younger and angrier.”
“What did you look like up to 12?” Adora asks instead, “Bet you didn’t look cool back then.”
“You think I’m cool?” Catra preens.
“What? No!” Adora slaps Catra’s shoulder.
Cackling, Catra digs out her sunglasses and puts them on, “It’s fine, Adora. I am pretty cool.”
Adora gets on her phone and starts tapping away, ignoring Catra’s glances and grins in the process when she manages to find what she’s looking for, “Aha!” The blonde cheers loudly before turning her phone around to show Catra the picture she’s found, “There! That’s your awkward phase photo!”
Catra tips her sunglasses down a little so she can get a good look at the photo Adora has pulled up. 10 year old Catra had big hair, but she was still dressed in all black. Her hair was a matted mess back then before she got sick of it and cut it short. Due to being influenced by the skateboarding scene even back in those days and limited amount clothes, she essentially had the same outfit all year round. Long sleeve dark coloured shirts, a baggy tshirt over the top, sneakers and baggy cargos. The skateboard in her hand back then was almost three quarters as tall as she was. But that didn’t matter as long as she could still shred around the car parks and wherever else she was likely to get kicked out of.
Catra grins at seeing that photo, “Fuck. I forgot about that.”
“Awkward phase!” Adora announces proudly.
“Nah, that’s probably my favourite and only photo of me growing up.” Catra sighs at the memory, “My best friend took that photo of me way back when. We used to go skating together after school everyday. Got chased by the cops so many times for breaking into the locked car parks to skate and out the front of the library.” Catra chuckles at the memory before she sighs, “We snuck into Huntara’s bar a few times too. She was so mad.”
Adora smiles fondly at Catra, “Sounds like a great friend.”
“Yeah, he was.” Catra replies as she looks away from Adora.
“Where is he now?”
“6 feet under.”
“What?”
“He’s dead, Adora.” Catra answers without much emotion, “Gunned down by a drug dealer when we had just graduated from high school.”
“Oh… I’m sorry.” Adora places her hand on the back of Catra’s again.
“Wrong place, wrong time.” Catra sighs, “We were sneaking to Huntara’s bar that night and he got caught in the middle of a gun fight. I blame myself. If I never suggested sneaking out that night, he would still be alive. And we would be perusing all the bars, picking up girls and just being menaces until we got too old for it.” Adora squeezes Catra’s hand as Catra chuckles sadly at the thought, “Anyways, that’s a good photo. Where’d you find it?”
“I’ll send it to you.” Adora taps on her phone to save the photo, “Oh, I haven’t got your phone number.”
“Grab my phone and just put your number in it.” Catra suggests, refusing to let go of the anchor that is Adora’s hand, “Then you’ll have my number.”
“Where’s your phone?”
“In my pants. Pocket.” Catra grins.
Adora rolls her eyes, “I’m not feeling you up, Catra.” She releases Catra’s hand and holds her hand out, palm up, “Gimme me.”
Catra digs out her phone from her pocket and hands it to Adora, “Do you remember the passcode?” The grin on her face making Adora roll her eyes at her as she taps in Catra’s passcode and when Adora gets in, the grin on Catra’s face widens.
Ignoring the looks Catra is giving her, Adora types a message to herself on Catra’s phone and sends it to herself before adding herself in the shorter woman’s phone. Once she’s all set, she sets Catra’s phone and takes her own phone out, sending the photo she had found to Catra.
“Thank you.” Catra says softly.
“You're welcome.”
Pulling up to her car space in the parking garage, they are surprised to see Entrapta waiting for them, leaning on her own vehicle and talking on her phone in the parking garage. As soon as Catra’s parked up, Entrapta begins crossing over to Catra’s car. It’s just then, another car comes roaring through the parking lot, aiming straight for Entrapta. The scientist too caught up in conversation she doesn’t even hear the car screaming towards her. Catra unbuckles her seatbelt and shoves her door open as fast as she can, sprinting over to Entrapta and going full superman to push her out the way. The car misses them by less than a second, side swiping Catra’s car, ripping the open door off and then racing out of the garage.
Catra gets up and chases after the car to no avail while Adora runs over to check over Entrapta who is lying on her side holding her shoulder painfully, her phone shattered across the parking garage floor, but she seems a little bit in shock but not too bad.
“Did you get the plates on the car?” Catra runs back to the pair panting and out of breath, directing the question at both of them, “I got the make and model only. I couldn’t get the plates though.”
“I got them.” Adora replies turning back to Entrapta, “Are you okay?”
Entrapta turns over easily enough, but when she tries to position her arm behind to push herself off the ground, she yelps and winces in pain, Catra quickly going to her side, ducking under her good shoulder and helping her up.
“Adora? Can you grab as much of Entrapta’s phone as you can please?” Catra’s voice calm as she lets Entrapta lean on her, “Leave the glass, but grab any chips and wires if you can.”
Entrapta’s face scrunches up in pain, before she turns her head to look at Catra, “Catra!” Her voice beaming with relief, “I was so worried about you!”
“What?” Catra asks in disbelief, especially after what just transpired, “I’m fine. You’re the one that’s hurt!”
“I had a voice message on my phone that said that you were in a car accident coming back from Adora’s.” Entrapra’s eyes tearing up thinking about it, “Then I got a text from an unknown number saying that Scorpia would be picking me up from down here. But I messaged her back and told her it’d be better if we took my vehicle.” Entrapta took a breath in, Catra’s eyes narrowed in anger at her friend being tricked. Entrapta continued on, “It was just so strange. So, I called Scorpia and she said she had no idea what I was talking about. I came down here to get my backup tablet from my vehicle when my phone rang. It was such an interesting recording of a robot voice.”
“Great…” Catra groaned under her breath as Adora came back with the bits of broken phone in her hand, “Of course you’d get distracted by robots…”
“Talking robots!” Entrapta beams again as she corrects Catra, as another groan can be heard, “It was fascinating!”
“I’m sure it was.” Catra sighs, “Come on, let’s go to my office so we can get you looked over.” Catra helps Entrapta back into the lobby as Adora follows behind, “Can you pass my phone, please Adora?”
Adora reaches into her pocket and pulls out Catra’s phone, unlocking it before putting it in her hand, Catra smiles gratefully, “What do you want me to do?”
“Uh, wait here.” Catra nods to Adora, “Actually, come grab Traps for a second while I go talk to Lonnie.”
Adora quickly makes her way over and takes Entrapta’s weight off from Catra as she watches the CEO signal to speak with her head of security. There’s a lot of angry hand gestures and whisper yelling until Lonnie puts a reassuring hand on Catra’s shoulder and it seems to calm the shorter woman down. After a moment, the pair part ways as Lonnie goes to speak with her guards and makes some phone calls while Catra rushes back to Adora and Entrapta.
“Wildcat! Entrapta!” Scorpia screeches as she rushes out of the elevator and across the lobby to her friends looking over an injured Entraptra, “What happened?”
“Someone tried to run Traps over.” Catra answers calmly, “Can you take her to get looked over?”
Scorpia nods and takes Entrapta out of Adora’s hold. She nods to Catra, “We’ll meet you in your office.”
“Yeah, okay. I gotta go get my door.” Catra replies to a very confused looked Scorpia, “My car door got ripped off. Fucking Swifty is injured too.”
“Aww…” Adora involuntarily coos at hearing Catra refer to her car as Swifty, before grabbing Catra’s arm, “Well, we better go find Swifty’s wing!”
“You are ridiculous.” Catra says with an eye roll and a grin she can’t hold back, despite the seriousness of the situation, "Fuck, I hope she’s not too damaged.” Looking back over to a still very confused Scorpia, Catra groans towards her friend, “I’ll, uh, see you in my office. Text me when you guys are heading up there.”
“Will do!” Scorpia helps Entrapta to walk towards the elevators before getting in.
“Come on.” Catra gestures for Adora to follow her back into the parking garage.
The garage is now on lock down, security staff spread around while Lonnie and Rogelio scour the area for clues.
“Hey boss!” Lonnie calls, “Your car door is over here. Might want to reattach it.” Lonnie finishes that sentence with a smirk.
Catra comes over and crouches over the smashed up metal on the ground that used to be her door, the glass is gone too, shattered all over the floor. “Fuck!” Catra growls picking up the remnants of her door and looking at it, “I don’t have time to fix her…”
“Just be glad that the only casualty after that whole thing.” Lonnie drawls, “We’re pulling up security footage. Are you sure you don’t want to call the police?”
“Yes. Keep them out of this.” Catra leans the door against her car, “They would just find another thing to pin on us.” Turning to Adora, “Adora, got their plates.”
Lonnie nods, holding out a notepad and pen, “Write it down and I'll look into it.”
Adora takes the pen and notepad, scribbling down the number plate and handing it back to Lonnie. “Catra’s got the make and model.”
“Here. Your turn.” Lonnie shoves the pen and notepad into Catra’s chest, “Did you see the driver? Number of occupants in the vehicle? Any other obvious markings on the car, apart from a damaged bonnet from taking out your car.”
Catra grumbled something under her breath, furiously writing down everything she could remember, “I’m pretty sure there were 2 people in that car. Didn’t get a good look at the driver though, they were both wearing hoods, black hoods. Pretty sure the front right side of their car is what took out my baby’s door.”
“You’re such a baby.” Lonnie huffed as she wrote down Catra’s statement.
Ignoring the comment, Catra decides to leave her car door leaned up against her car, “Let me know if you need us for anything else.” Sighing as she pats her car one more time, “Come on, Adora. Let’s go.” As they make their way back to towards the lobby, Catra turns around one more time, “Lonnie?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t touch Swifty,” Catra grins.
“Fuck off Catra. I don’t want your hunk of junk.” Lonnie snarks right back before sarcastically waving the CEO off, “But, I’ll make sure no one fucks with it. The garage will be under high security and everyone that comes down here will either go through me or Rogelio.”
“Thanks Lonnie.” Catra genuinely says.
As they take the elevator up to the top floor, Adora gasps loudly next to Catra. “What?”
Adora grabs at Catra arm, “You’re hurt.”
Catra turns her arm over and sure enough her left sleeve is ripped up and covered in blood, “Huh. Would you look at that?” She sees Adora’s eyes furrow in concern, “Hey… I’m okay. It doesn’t even hurt.”
Out of instinct, Adora reaches up and gently thumbs over the cuts on Catra’s face from last night’s little fight, “Is that from last night or from saving Entrapta?”
“I didn’t save Entratpa.” Catra replies flatly, “I just… pushed her out of the way.”
“Believe whatever you want, Catra.” Adora pulls her hand away, “But you did save her life.”
“Yeah, okay, sure.” Catra brushes it off, “I was at the right place at the right time. That’s it.”
Rolling her eyes, Adora huffs but lets it go changing the subject, “So, your arm?”
“Yeah, not sure.” Catra scratches her head, “I guess it’s from skidding on the concrete in the parking garage. Though I really don’t know. Pretty sure Bex and her gang didn’t have any knives or sharp objects last night.”
“Well, should we not get you looked over as well?” Adora asks, “You could be hurt and you don’t even know it.” She holds her hand up to stop Catra from interrupting, “And don’t tell me that you’re fine.”
“I’m not going to the doc.” Catra replies, “You look at it. You can fix me up.”
“Catra, no. I’m not a doctor.” Adora pushes back, “You need a professional.”
Shaking her head, “No. Either you look over me or you leave me alone. That’s my final offer.”
“Ugh, fine.” Adora concedes, "But if it's worse than what I think it is, you go to the doctor."
“Then it’s settled.” Catra replies, pleased with herself as the doors open on the elevator.
They walk straight into Catra’s office and she grabs the still open bottle on her desk and takes a swig from it, throwing herself onto the couch, laying across it so that her feet hang off the opposite arm rest. Adora stands over Catra with her arms crossed and an unhappy look on her face.
“Drink?” Catra holds the bottle towards Adora.
“No, thank you.” Adora answer shaking her head, “Shirt. Off. Now.”
Catra rolls her eyes, “Really? Right here?”
“Yes. Right here.”
Eying the blonde, they have a stare down, waiting for someone to crack. Turns out Adora was really good at stare downs and Catra ends up cracking first.
“Ugh, fine.” She hands the bottle to Adora and starts unbuttoning her ripped shirt, slipping the shirt off and shoving it into Adora’s hands, “There. Happy?”
Adora’s face turns red as her fingers tighten around Catra’s shirt in her hands and her mouth going dry at seeing Catra shirtless and topless, she turns around and puts the bottle back onto Catra's desk to try and distract herself.
“What?” Catra asks Adora, completely unaware of the affect she was having on the blonde, “Now you’re acting weird.”
“Uh…” Adora’s manages to get out as Catra smirks.
“Come on, princess. I don’t have all day.” Catra sits up for a moment, before slumping back into the couch, “You’ve got 5 minutes before I go into the other room and get changed.”
That seems to snap Adora out of her gay haze, “Um, okay.” It comes out a little too breathy, but the blonde shakes the other thoughts out of her head as she approaches Catra, the shirt still held tightly in her hands, “Can you, uh, stand up?” Catra complies as Adora looks her torso up and down, keeping her eyes from lingering too long, “Let me see your arm.”
Catra sighs and holds her injured arm out, “Well? How bad is it?”
Adora inspects the injury, carefully moving around the wound, “It doesn’t look too bad. But I need to clean it and bandage it up.”
Just as she’s finishing that sentence, Catra’s office door buzzes and Scorpia and Entrapta burst through.
“Wildcat?”
“Catra!” Entrapta beams, her arm in a sling as they go in further into the office, “Are you hurt?”
Adora quickly let go of Catra’s arm and shoves her shirt into her chest, Catra laughs at the blonde’s reaction, “No, I’m fine. Adora was just checking me over.”
Scorpia raises a questioning eye to Adora, who is now beet red, blushing furiously, “Uh… okay.”
“Hey, Scorp? Can you grab the first aid kit?” Catra asks holding the shirt against her chest, “Once Adora gets this cleaned up, let me get changed and we can debrief.”
Nodding, Scorpia goes back out to retrieve the first aid kit, while Entrapta pulls out the chair opposite Catra’s desk and sits on it, poking at her arm in the sling, “I didn’t know you were injured so badly.”
“Oh, you mean my face?” Catra asks, “Yeah, this is from last night.”
“They started a fight at Huntara’s.” Adora helpfully adds, “It wasn’t a fair fight.”
“Of course, it wasn’t.” Entrapta replies in a monotone voice, “We all told her, Estelle was bad news.”
“Fuck. What is this? Pick on me week or something?” Catra huffs as she sits back down on the couch, “I get it, I have bad taste in women.”
“Mm…” Entrapta hums as she glances over a Adora with a grin before looking back at Catra, “Not always. But Estelle was bad. Even I knew. I’m surprised it took you so long to break things off.”
Catra growls at Entrapta as Scorpia returns and the tension is back to normal in the room, “Well, it’s a good thing that you knew. I knew you were doing something with my phone.”
“And hers!” Entrapta proudly declares.
“Should I be privy to this?” Adora asks Catra with a slight concern in her voice, “That sounded kind of... illegal?"
Before Entrapta could dig herself any further into a hole, Catra stops her, “Do not answer that question, Traps. Actually, don’t talk about Estelle or any of my other exes in front of my EA.”
“Okay!”
“Hey, Wildcat.” Scorpia sets the first aid kit on the table in front of the couch, “Do you want me to fix you up? Like old times?”
“Nah, it’s all good Scorp.” Catra pats her friend on the shoulder, “I think Adora’s got this one. I already promised her she could.”
Scorpia turns to Adora and glares at the blonde, “Yeah, okay.” She gets up and steps over to Adora, “Don’t fuck it up, EA.”
Adora gulps at the threat, “I won’t.”
Catra chuckles at the whole protective Scorpia thing, “Can you give us ten minutes?”
“Sure.” Scorpia replies as she sits in Catra’s desk chair and crossing her arms, not understanding what Catra wants.
Sighing, Catra turns to Adora, “Come on, princess. You can patch me up at home.”
“Uh… are you sure?” Adora swallows hard, “I thought you weren’t going to let me see your place unless I beat you in sparring again.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Catra picks up the first aid kit and gets up from the couch, “This one’s a freebie.”
Catra leads Adora out of her office, rolling her eyes at Scorpia glaring daggers at Adora while Entrapta happily spins around in the chair she’s sitting in. Unlocking the door to her place, Adora follows behind, shutting the door behind them once they are inside. Catra’s place is lavish. The windows are similar to her office, floor to ceiling, except with curtains hidden in the corners. Everything inside looks straight out of a display home, the furniture all looking pristine and unused. Everything except for Catra’s bedroom, which definitely looks lived in. The bed is unmade and there are clothes hung randomly in the cupboards.
“You’re place is amazing.” Adora ends up saying aloud.
“Yeah, it’s not too shabby.” Catra shrugs as she dumps her shirt in her nearly full laundry hamper and kicks off her shoes, “Where do you want to patch up my arm?”
Adora wants to say bedroom, but that would really be a bad idea, “Uh, wherever you want…?”
“Do you need me sitting or standing to do this?” Catra asks as she looks around her place for a clean shirt.
“Couch?”
“Okay.” Catra grabs a fresh tshirt from her cupboard and throws it on before plonking down on her couch, “Here?”
Now that Catra had a shirt on again, Adora felt like she could breathe properly, “Yeah, that’s fine.” She pulls out a few vials of saline, gauze and a bandage and begins to fix Catra’s wound, “What’s up with Scorp?”
Catra chuckles again, “She’s just protective.”
“Of what?”
“Of me.”
“Oh…” Adora seems confused still, “Why?”
“Because.” Catra replies with a wince as Adora starts too clean her wound, “I have a type.”
“Uh huh.” Adora catches Catra’s eyes.
“And… well, you’re kind of my type.” Catra admits slowly, “But, you’re my employee, so we are not having this conversation and I will do my best to stop being so… inappropriate.”
At that realisation, Adora feels a pang of sadness and a little bit of rejection, “Yeah, I get it.”
“You know what?” Catra perks up, Adora raises an eyebrow in answer, “Let me know if I’m acting inappropriately around you.”
“Like how, exactly?”
“Well, I don’t know…” Catra thinks, “For one, taking off my shirt in front of you. That definitely should not have happened.” Adora nods slowly, “I guess, sleeping in the same bed as me and me calling you pet names is not on. So, from now on, I’m going to rein myself in.”
Adora stops cleaning Catra’ wound for a moment and frowns, “Look, I’ll tell you if I feel you are being inappropriate.”
“I don’t think you will.” Catra questions seriously.
“Okay, fine.” Adora huffs, “The whole being half naked thing and sleeping in the same bed as you, well, yeah, we probably shouldn’t be doing that if you are my boss.”
“Well, duh!” Catra rolls her eyes, “Have you never been employed before?”
Adora glares at Catra grinning away at her own joke, “Yeah, I have. But usually no one knows what I’m really there for.”
“So… you’re saying that you are actually good at being undercover?” Catra replies perplexed and with a chuckle, “Or you have had some really dumbass employers…”
“Shut up.” Adora slaps Catra’s shoulder playfully annoyed, “Your Super Pal Trio group just surprise me is all.”
Finishing up on Catra’s bandage, Adora steps back and admires her handiwork while watching Catra test the mobility in her arm, “Good work, princ… Adora.”
Rolling her eyes at the CEO, Adora helps Catra up off the couch, “I think we should get back to the others.”
“Cool. Lead the way.” Catra grins.
Adora goes to open door of Catra’s home and back into the building, stepping back first. But before Catra can get out, Adora stops and turns around, leaning into Catra’s ear and whispers, “You can keep calling me princess.”
The breathiness of Adora’s voice in Catra’s ear has Catra shivering when the blonde pulls away with a smirk as she walks back towards CEO's office. Closing the door and locking it behind her, she follows Adora back to her office with a smile that she can’t wipe off her face.
Yep, this is not going to be easy to be professional.
