Her Name

Kat looked down at the tiny little bundle in her arms. She was a mother. It all seemed so surreal. Steve placed his hand on the back of her head and kissed Kat on the top of hers. “She’s so beautiful.” He whispered.

“She really is.” Loki said from her other side. She got moved to a recovery room and an extra bed for Steve and Loki to alternate lying in.

Bruce came in to check on them every couple hours, seeing if they needed anything. “Have you decided on a name?” He asked as he was taking Kat’s blood pressure.

“I think we have, but were gonna wait until everyone’s together to say it.” Kat said.

“Well, when you’re able to come home, Pepper has arranged a little get together for you. She’s also stocked your freezer with ready to bake meals, cause you’ll all be tired.” He told you. You nodded your thanks and Steve took the baby and put her in her little bed for a nap.

“How would you feel about taking a shower little dove?” Loki asked from the other bed. Kat looked to Steve and he nodded to her, telling her that he would watch the baby while she did. Loki helped her out of bed and into the bathroom.

He helped her out of her clothes and got her in the shower. There was a small stool sitting in it, and she was thankful for it because she was still wobbly on her feet. Loki got in with her and kneeled in front of her. He washed her very carefully before he moved to her hair.

“Thank you for this Loki.” She said softly.

He smiled at her. “Of course little dove. You’ve just given birth. You need your rest. Besides, I’d do anything for you.” He told her.

She felt much better after a shower, Loki helped get her back into bed, and Steve settled in next to her. She was very grateful that these beds were larger than normal, seeing as how most of the team was bigger than your average person.

“Get some sleep sweetheart, we’ll listen for her okay? You need rest.” Steve told her. She nodded and turned to snuggle into Steve’s chest, falling asleep within minutes.

‘She has your eyes.” Loki told him after Kat had been asleep for some time. He was leaning over the baby, his face in awe. Steve smiled, looking over at them.

“She does. The rest is Katherine though. If she gets her attitude we’ll have our hands full.”

Loki chuckled. “I think we’re already gonna have out hands full Captain.” Loki told him.

“Steve, please. If we’re gonna be in this together, we might as well call each other by our names, don’t you think?” He asked. Loki nodded and looked to Kat, smiling.

“I never thought I’d have this. A normal life. Well, semi normal. A family.” He said. Steve nodded, looking down to the sleeping woman in his arms.

“I know what you mean. When I woke up from the ice I went straight into one fight after the other, and then I met Kat and she was a breath of fresh air. She was funny and good hearted and so broken all at the same. It took her a long time to heal after losing you Loki.” Steve told him. Loki looked up at him from looking at the baby, guilt written all over his face.

“I should have never left her. I didn’t want to, but Thor needed our help, and I’ve let him down so many times in our lives, and I couldn’t do it again.” Loki told him.

“I understand. She wasn’t mad at you for that, se understood. It took her a long time to finally be okay. She busied herself with the homes for kids that were left behind, she’s really good at it. I never pushed her into anything, I want you to know that.” Steve told him.

“I know you didn’t, and I’m thankful that she had you to lean on while she was healing.” Loki told him. Steve nodded and quieted down when Kat shifted against him in the bed.

They got the okay to leave the med wing two days later. Bucky was waiting for them back at the apartment, with a fridge and freezer full of prepared meals Pepper had brought down for them. Thank God for Pepper because all three of them were too tired to do anything.

A few days later they were heading up to the penthouse for a party for the baby. Kat tried her best to put herself together, but she was still sore and tired so all she managed were some leggings and a sweater, her hair thrown up in a messy bun with minimal makeup. Steve and Loki both told her that she looked beautiful but she was pretty sure they were just telling her that so she wouldn’t blast them into a wall.

She was still hormonal and Dr. Cho told her that it would last a little while after giving birth. Kat knew it was mostly because she was tired. It did help that Steve and Loki were more than happy to get up during the night for feedings and changings so that she could sleep.

Pepper greeted her first when they walked in, encasing Kat in a long hug. “I’m so proud of you, of all of you. Tony would be proud of you too, I know he would.” She whispered. Kat choked back tears as she hugged Pepper, knowing that she was right. Tony would have loved to be ‘Uncle Tony’ and spoil the baby just like he had with Morgan.

“Thank you Pepper, for everything. For being here, for letting us live here. Just everything. You have no idea how much it means to us.” Kat told her.

Pepper shook her head. “Of course. You’re family Kat, you all are. We’ll always be here for you. Now come on. Morgan is dying to meet her new best friend, she hasn’t stopped asking about you guys.”

Pepper had catered in food and everyone came. Wanda, Sam, Peter, Thor, Jane (they found out that Jane and Thor had gotten back together soon after the snap), Darcy, Valkyrie, Bucky, Rhodey, Happy and Nat.

Kat laughed at how quickly Steve and Loki jumped up to make everyone wash their hands before touching the baby. They were being total mother hens and Nat and Sam were snickering behind their backs. It gave Kat a warm feeling inside, seeing how protective they already were over her.

Thor walked up to them smiling down at the baby. “She is beautiful Lady Katherine, I am so happy for you all. This is a great blessing.” He said.

“Thank you Thor. That means a lot.” Steve told him. He clapped both Steve and Loki on the backs before heading back to Jane.

Nat walked up to them next, pulling Kat into a hug after she handed the baby to Loki. “I’m so proud of you Kat. You deserve this. You all do. Please tell me you named her after me.” She sad. Kat laughed and shook her head.

“You’re gonna have to wait like everyone else.” They ate and mingled for a little while, letting everyone have a chance to hold her. Kat was overwhelmed with the amount of love in the room from her family. The family that had taken her in when she had nothing. The two men that loved her unconditionally. She would never this up for anything in the world.

“Okay okay, we’re all here, can you please, please tell us her name?” Peter asked, practically bouncing on the couch.

Kat laughed and nodded, standing between Loki and Steve.

“We would like you all to meet Natalie Sarah Frigga Odinson-Rogers.”
