Scarlett has struggled with sleeping since like, forever. Her brain was very active at night, the only way of trying to get it to shut down was speak her thoughts, probably because of something to do with her frontal cortex, blablablaaa. who cares,
Amy was also used to Scarlett's difficulty sleeping, knowing that she sometimes needed to talk things out loud to help quiet her racing mind. She listened like, 8% of the time, the other 92% she would get fed up with Scarlett talking about some weird 'sciencey' or 'Psychological' things and tell her to shut up, (or at least try get her to)
Today was one of those nights!
*Amy couldn't help but be annoyed by Scarlett's sudden rambling. She found it weird how Scarlett's mind would dive into random subjects, (today it being brain hemisphere functions ?? like hello!!) whenever she couldn't sleep, going on a tangent that would continue for hoursss on enddd.. Amy turned around to face Scarlett.*
-
"You're doing it againn..''
*Scarlett realized what she was doing, stopping her thoughts and speaking out loud to the blonde girl laying beside her. She let out a soft sigh, feeling sheepish.*
-
"Oh,- my apologies, I do this a lot don't I?"
*Amy rolled her eyes, finding Scarlett's ramblings a little annoying. She was tired and just wanted to sleep, but of course Scarlett's brain had to go on and on and on, VERBALLY!!*
-
"You do, every fricking time I try to sleep. Can we try to go back to sleep now?"
*Scarlett sighed softly, acknowledging her habit. She understood that it could be exhausting for others. specifically Amy, especially in the middle of the night.*
-
"Alright, I'll try to be quiet now.."
**Not even two full minutes after, just as Amy was falling asleep (in the silence she hadn't experienced in so long!!) Scarlett's voice was heard again, SIGH. This time, Amy didn't have a clue what her girlfriend was on about. But whatever it was she just wanted her to KINDLY! shut up.**
*Amy let out a huff of frustration, her patience wearing thin.*
-
"can you just tell your brain to shut up and let you sleep? It's not that hard, right?"
*Scarlett rolled her eyes at Amy's remark. She wished it was as simple as telling her brain to be quiet, but it wasn't that easy.*
-
"If only it were that simple... If I could just turn off my thoughts like a switch, I wouldn't be here, keeping us both up."
*Amy huffed, irritation seeping into her voice. Even though behind her eyes there was probably a hint of concern, no one likes to listen to their girlfriend stay up all night because her brain is too.. well, just too much. Not even Amy*
-
"Well, you should at least try to control your brain. It's not just about you, you know. I'm trying to sleep here too."
*Scarlett felt a pang of guilt at Amy's words. She knew that her constant movement and rambling were bothering her girlfriend.*
-
"Look, i apologise, i really do. But it's not something I can just switch on and off, okay? It's... it's how my brain is wired. I can't help it if my mind is racing at a mile a minute."
*Amy let out another huff, clearly exasperated.*
-
"Look, I think Samey has like, those melatonin things in her room that help you sleep or something, go ask her for some. i dunno.''
-
*Honestly, Amy shuddered saying Samey's name. EW!!*
*Scarlett was shocked at Amy's casual suggestion. She didn't want to resort to drugging herself to sleep.*
-
"No, I don't want to take melatonin. It can have side effects, you know. I don't want to use drugs as a crutch to sleep."
*Amy rolled her eyes. She thought Scarlett's worries were ridiculous.*
-
"Oh, come on. It's just melatonin. It's not like you're taking some hardcore illegal drugs. It's over the counter, it's not gonna do any harm."
*Scarlett's expression grew serious, her voice firm. She knew that even over-the-counter drugs could have side effects.*
-
"Actually, Amy. Melatonin can cause side effects even if it's over the counter. And besides, I don't want to rely on medication to sleep. I want to find a natural way to calm my racing thoughts."
*Amy crossed her arms, Her back now facing Scarlett, hogging the covers as per usual!*
-
"Goodluck doing so then,"
**- Silence....**
*Amy scoffed Though, she cant just stay quiet after that. But She also thought Scarlett was being overdramatic.*
-
"Oh, come on. You're making a big deal out of nothing. Melatonin is safe for like, 95% of people. It won't hurt to try it."
*Scarlett felt a wave of frustration wash over her at Amy's insistence. But she knew Amy was just trying to look out for her. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her emotions in check.*
-
"Right...And the other 5%??"
*Amy shrugged nonchalantly. She didn't think the risks were a big deal.*
-
"Meh, small percentage. Its practically nothing, What are the odds of you being in that 5%? Unlikely, right?"
*Scarlett was getting increasingly frustrated with Amy's lack of concern.*
-
"It's not just about the 'small percentage.' It's never zero. And Additionally, It's about the principle. I don't want to put something into my body that has even a miniscule chance of harming me. And it's not just the side effects, it's the fact that it doesn't address the root cause of my insomnia."
*Amy stared at the clock on her bedside table. reading '12:55', Already fed up. Amy is not missing another night of sleep just because Scarlett refuses to take melatonin.*
-
"Just go get the melatonin."
...
*Soon enough, Once Scarlett Glances at what Amy is looking at, Ohhh! the clock! . And notices the time, not feeling like arguing anymore. she just gets up, leaving to wherever her girlfriends twin sisters room was.*
