Chapter 9
"Are you going to ignore me the whole ride?"
There's a shift in the air now. Thick and sad, interfering with Wade's senses. The atmosphere almost reminds him of one of those trashy action rom-com. The bright-eyed girl realizes the guy she met on vacation is just a stalker who whispers Baby Girl unironically.
And Wade doesn't have to have an IQ to rival Einstein to realize he's just Bambi's Prince Hans before he finally meets his Kristoff.
Hell- with the way Stark is shaking with tears glistening in their eyes, he wouldn't be surprised if he woke up one day with a glowing blue light in his face.
He really should have just put a bullet in his between his eyes.
Unfortunately, his hesitation has resulted in his contract becoming free for all. This means Stark's infinite list of problems has now reached endless proportions.
Taking a sharp turn, he notices how Tony stiffens his body to prevent from leaning into his space; it really shouldn't bother him this much.
"Seriously Iron Babe, if you don't say something soon I’m going to assume you’re going into shock, and I’m really not the guy you want helping you through a -"
"How long have- Who sent you?"
It's a change from the banshee shrieking from the alleyway, but Wade almost wishes that it wasn't. For someone who should have an ego the size of national monuments, it was shamefully easy to make this man interested enough to come on a date with him.
Going the seduction route never works for Wade, but he was shocked enough that he didn't put a bullet in his pretty head once they got off the train. It would have been terribly easy to rid the world of Tony Stark in a dark alleyway in the wrong part of the city.
For the fucking price his death is going for, Wade really shouldn't have thought twice.
But he always did have a thing for Wide-eyed Brunettes, with hearts too big for their body. Maybe that's why he doesn't hesitate when he responds. Why he carefully slips into a safer act.
Because Wade has this dark cloud, it's not over his head, but it trails after him.
Taking his health and his freedom.
Taking Vanessa and his heart.
Taking and taking.
So, with a grin so heartbreaking and a shine in his eyes, he lies, "Would you believe me if I said no one sent me?" With a good place wet laugh, he continues, "I'm not... I'm different-obviously, but I wasn't sent to hurt you. I mean, think about it, Iron Babe. Why give you the chance to search me up before taking you out? I know how it feels when someone toys with your emotions - I wouldn't do that to someone else."
Wade may be broken and scarred, and Tony's not too far behind him, but hell, even a mercenary deserves to have something nice.
